iSquint 1.5.2-Convert videos to iPod or PSP

http://isquint.en.softonic.com/mac

Here is the thing: you just got a new iPod and you want to watch some videos on it. You can transfer video podcasts or buy videos from the iTunes store.

You can also use a tool like iSquint to convert any video you have to play on your iPod.
The small and modest application actually works quite well.

You can choose to optimize for TV or iPod and use H. 264 encoding for better quality. One of the most handy features is actually being able to add your converted videos to iTunes, making converting and transferring to your iPod a linear process.

Most users will probably use the slider to set image quality, however brasher users will dig in the advanced features, which allow you to crop your video, set framerate, bitrate, width and height.

The thing I really hate about iSquint though is the nag screens encouraging you to switch to the developer's other shareware solution VisualHub.

You'll be notified every time you launch iSquint and every time you finish a conversion, and naturally there's no way of getting rid of it. The other major drawback is the volatile audio quality when it comes down to conversion.

You might need a few tries before you get a video with proper image and audio quality.
Overall though, iSquint is a good free tool to quickly convert videos to the iPod format and save them in your iTunes library.

Download iSquint 1.5.2 in Softonic

Senuti 1.2.7-Transfer songs from your iPod and iPhone to Mac

http://senuti.en.softonic.com/mac

Imagine you've just got that shiny new iPod or iPhone and you've filled it with your favorite music. But one day you may want to transfer songs back from your iPod or iPhone to your Mac. Frustratingly, with iTunes you can't do so, which is why Senuti was invented.

Senuti could be useful to transfer music after a hard drive crash, the purchase of a new computer or just to move music between computers. When your iPod or iPhone is connected, Senuti instantly lists all the songs and playlists that it can detect. It can automatically add songs to your iTunes library or you can define a folder for them to go into. If you are worried about duplicates, Senuti displays a small blue dot next to every song you already have in your library.

The first thing that strikes you is the simplicity of the interface followed by the speed of Senuti. It uses a small file known as 'iTunesDB' on your iPod or iPhone device to rapidly extract every bit of essential information for every song and playlist. In addition, it supports simple dragging and dropping of both music and playlists, which will not only copy songs to your computer and add them to iTunes, but will make a new playlist with the same name and add all of the songs to that list.

Some users have complained of instability issues but I experienced no such problems. Senuti detected my iPod's songs instantly and transfers to iTunes were extremely quick.

Senuti offers a quick and simple way of transferring songs and playlists from your iPod or iPhone to your Mac.

Download Senuti 1.2.7 in Softonic

Floola 5.9.1-iPod audio manager with support for iTunes

http://floola.en.softonic.com/mac

Floola is a freeware application to manage your iPod or your Motorola mobile phone. It works on any model supporting iTunes.

Floola can be run directly from your iPod and the good thing is it requires no installation. Floola supports almost all features offered by iPods including photos, artwork, podcasts and smart playlists. It automatically converts any incompatible audio or video file so that you can copy almost any file to it. It allows adding YouTube and MySpace videos with a single click. Now it even makes it possible to keep your Google calendars synched.

The speed and ease of use of Floola are what impress the most. Copying, adding and extracting songs to and from an iPod is extremely easy. You can easily manage, import and export (m3u, pls) playlists and it's also integrated with Last.fm. Adding videos is also extremely easy - just copy the URL into Floola and it will automatically copy them across.

There are many more impressive features to Floola that make it a truly excellent application for managing your iPod from your Mac.

Download Floola 5.9.1 in Softonic

Senuti Free 0.52-Open source version of Senuti

http://senuti-free.en.softonic.com/mac

Senuti Free allows you to transfer songs from your iPod or iPhone to your Mac. Please note that this is a free version of the original Senuti which was distributed under the GNU GPL license before it became closed.

The creator of Senuti Free says: "The author of Senuti distributed copies of it for years under the GPL, which states: 'If you distribute copies of such a program, whether gratis or for a fee, you must pass on to the recipients the same freedoms that you received.

You must make sure that they, too, receive or can get the source code. And you must show them these terms so they know their rights.'" However, as a result of this you obviously won't receive any support from the developer of Senuti as the app has now moved to a paid model.

Senuti could be useful to transfer music after a hard drive crash, the purchase of a new computer or just to move music between computers. When your iPod or iPhone is connected, Senuti Free instantly lists all the songs and playlists that it can detect. It can automatically add songs to your iTunes library or you can define a folder for them to go into. If you are worried about duplicates, Senuti Free displays a small blue dot next to every song you already have in your library.

The first thing that strikes you is the simplicity of the interface followed by the speed of Senuti Free.

Senuti Free detected our iPod's songs instantly and transfers to iTunes were extremely quick. However, Senuti can be unstable at times and because this is an open source version of the app, there are no fixes or support for such problems. If you experience too many problems with Senuti Free, you're highly advised to download the paid version of Senuti instead which offers regular support and fixes.

Senuti Free offers a quick and simple way of transferring songs and playlists from your iPod or iPhone to your Mac.

Download Senuti Free 0.52 in Softonic

iRip (iPodRip) 2.1.3-Transfer songs from your iPod and iPhone to your Mac

http://ipodrip.en.softonic.com/mac

There's nothing more annoying with iTunes than the way it prevents you from copying songs from your iPod into iTunes itself. Fortunately, applications such as iRip (formerly known as iPodRip) make this problem a thing of the past by unlocking your iPod and iPhone so that you can use it as you want.

iRip transfers music from your iPod back to your iTunes Library, allows you to listen to music directly on your iPod and iPhone (thus saving valuable disk space) and it supports major formats: i.e. MP3, AAC, and Audible.com Content. iRip could be particularly useful in a situation where your Mac has crashed and your iPod remains the only place where you've saved all of your music.

When you start iRip, you're asked if you want to perform a manual or automatic transfer to iTunes. We opted for manual, and you simply select a track and then click the 'Import' button at the bottom of the interface. When the transfer is complete, a green tick appears next to the track. You can also play songs with the playback controls at the bottom of the iRip interface. There are very few preferences but in an application as simple as this, you don't really need any.

The only annoying thing with iRip is that a nag screen floats permanently next to the main screen asking you to register and telling you that you only have 100 song transfers left. iRip also tends to occasionally import ratings incorrectly so don't be surprised if some of your tracks appear downgraded when imported.

Simple to use and very fast, iRip is definitely up there with Senuti as a powerful unlocking solution for iPods and iPhones.

Download iRip (iPodRip) 2.1.3 in Softonic

Music Rescue 4.5-Disaster recovery for your music

http://music-rescue.en.softonic.com/mac

If the worst happens and your hard drive crashes, you run the risk of losing all of your music. Of course, if you're wise you'll regularly back up with something like Time Machine but if you do get caught out, help is at hand.

Music Rescue is designed to come to the rescue when all else is lost. If you have an iPod, then chances are that your iTunes-purchased music can be recovered easily but for music that you've ripped from CD or recorded from your vinyl collection, your only hope is either a backup or via Music Rescue. Music Rescue can not only save your music, video, podcasts, audiobooks, audio recordings and notes but can automatically restore them exactly where they came from.

Throughout, Music Rescue is a superbly presented and executed program. The interface is elegant and it's almost impossible to go wrong because everything is so clearly displayed. Once you've connected your device, the main window is split into two areas, not unlike iTunes. On the left, you have your device and data available such as Music, Video and Podcasts. On the right you have the track listings corresponding to each one featuring the rating, artist, track duration etc. You can also search through the track listings using the search box at the top.

When you've selected the tracks you want to save, click 'Copy' in the bottom-right and corner. For each source - whether it be podcasts, music or videos - you can configure exactly how and where they are copied before you hit the copy button. That's it - once the progress bars have completed, your backups will be complete. There is also one other way to perform recovery and that's via "QuickRecover". QuickRecover gives you less control over the tracks you recover and instead simply recovers everything at once.

There are a few drawbacks to Music Rescue. Ratings, Play Counts and Last Played info are not recovered although these are hardly the most important things on your mind if you've just lost your entire music collection. It does however include backups of your album art.

Overall, Music Rescue is an excellent recovery utility for anyone who has lost their precious tunes.

Download Music Rescue 4.5 in Softonic

YamiPod 1.8-iPod manager which can import lyrics

http://yamipod.en.softonic.com/mac

Sometimes, the most popular apps are not always the best choice. For instance iTunes, which may be too big a download for someone who just wants to manage the songs stored in their iPod. If this is your case, take a look at this little app.

Its name is Yamipod, an acronym that summarizes this program’s main function perfectly well: Yet Another Manager for iPod. That’s it. Without even needing to install it on your system, Yamipod will take care of your iPod content management, providing you with a clean interface and simple, easy-to-use tools.

Once you copy the program to your PC, you can run it straight away, although it won’t really work until you plug in your iPod. Yamipod will then scan its contents and list all your MP3 folders and files on its interface. Also, the program does not launch automatically when you connect the iPod to your PC, which may be a nuisance for some but certainly a relief for others. I prefer to take control over when and why my software starts up.

Yamipod’s simple interface displays a list with all the songs stored in the iPod and allows you to perform different managing tasks. For instance, you can browse through your music by artist or album, check the playlists you’ve created or view extended information about each song. You can even listen to music with the built-in player. However, we should note that we had some problems testing this as the player didn’t seem to work properly.

Perhaps the most interesting function is the possibility to copy both MP3 and AAC files to and from the iPod, which makes it very easy to update your music library. If you want to copy music to your PC from the iPod, select the songs and click on the “Copy song to...” option in the context menu. To copy them back to the iPod, just drag and drop the files from the Windows Explorer onto the program’s interface.

Finally, another very interesting tool is the “Remove duplicates” utility. No matter how careful you are, you’ll end up having duplicate songs in your iPod, especially if it’s a large one. Yamipod will find them by comparing ID tag data and file sizes, showing a list of possible candidates before actually deleting them.

Yamipod is certainly no serious competition for iTunes but still, it’s a very interesting option for those of us who own an iPod and need a simple, neat and easy-to-use file manager.

Download YamiPod 1.8 in Softonic

DVD2Pod is an application that will rip your DVDs into an iPod compatible format.
The application is really simple to work with: insert your DVD into your Mac, launch DVD2POd and just press convert.

Not only that, but ripping a DVD is really quick and you don't have to get lost in all sorts of settings.
Quality of ripped videos is alright but don't expect anything brilliant.

In some ways this is linked to the limitations of the program. There are barely any settings to let you optimize the ripping and conversion of DVDs, so you're pretty much left with what DVD2Pod spits out.

Some users have also complained at a few bugs and crashes with the application.
http://ipod-access-photo.en.softonic.com/mac

iPod Access Photo will allow you to transfer photos from your iPod onto your Mac.

Whatever type of iPod you might be using, whether it be Classic, Video, Nano or Touch, the application will handle it. The latest version even works with the iPhone. iPod Access Photo reads the ithmb thumbnail files stored on your iPod making it much easier to browse through pictures and select the ones you want.

You can browse photos by albums and the application includes a preview window for you to check your snaps. iPod Access Photo lets you transfer photos one by one or you can simply check all the pictures you want and batch import them at once. iPod Access Photo also thankfully allows you to override photo names and set the ones you want.

The only downside is probably the jpeg save quality slide bar found in preferences. This tool feels a bit imprecise to work properly. However, most of the times, you probably will prefer not to touch the quality of your photos.

http://tooble.en.softonic.com/mac

Downloading YouTube videos to iPods and iPhones is not a particularly straightforward process, which is why the maker of Tooble think it's come-up with the perfect solution.

Tooble allows you to search YouTube, select batches of content, and then download them all for viewing on your iPod, iPhone and AppleTV in two or three clicks. You can browse YouTube within the main Tooble interface or search for videos via the search box. Simply mark those videos that you want to download, and Tooble then transfers them to your Mac in an iPod/iPhone friendly MP4 format.

Tooble sends them directly iTunes, so that the next time you plug in your iPod or iPhone the files are there for you to transfer.
http://8tracks-uploader.en.softonic.com/mac

8tracks Uploader lets you click and drag music to automatically update your 8tracks account.

Remember the days before MP3 players, where people would make mix tapes or CDs when they wanted some variety in their musical lives? 8tracks brings back the memories with a simple but addictive idea that lets users create their own playlists and share with others.

If you have a Mac, it's even easier to create playlists with 8tracks Uploader. 8tracks Uploader has a simple interface and is just as easy to use. Just open up your iTunes library, click and drag from there to the 8tracks Uploader. You'll have to have an account set up on the 8tracks online interface, but once logged in, your songs are just a simple click away from being uploaded.

Unfortunately, to actually create an 8tracks playlist, you need to hop over to the website and build your song list from there. 8tracks Uploader's sole purpose it to let you upload multiple songs at once onto the 8tracks - compiling the playlists is a separate action. Perhaps in future versions, 8tracks Uploader will let you create the actual playlists right from your desktop.

8tracks also has an app available for your iPhone that lets you listen to great mixed music on the go.

8tracks Uploader is a simple and easy way to upload music to your online 8tracks account and start churning out some great playlists.

Download 8tracks Uploader 0.90 in Softonic

Xilisoft iPod Magic allows you to transfer DVDs, music and video to your iPod or iPhone, without needing iTunes to do it.

Believe it or not, there are some people out there who love their iPhone or iPod but aren't huge fans of Apple's music player, iTunes. Those people are going to need another means of transferring files on their Mac to their iOS device.

That's where Xilisoft iPod Magic comes into play. Billed as a three-in-one device management app, Xilisoft iPod Magic lets you rip audio and video from your iPod to your Mac, copy files from iPod to iTunes and transfer files from your Mac to your iPod. There's even a way to convert non-iPod file formats on the fly, before transferring them to your device.

This program's clear, well-designed interface makes it easy to manage files on your iPod or iPhone. The contents of your Apple device are displayed in the main window, which is sectioned into audio, video, podcasts and photo. There are three large buttons underneath to add files to your iPod from your Mac, export files from your device to your computer and for exporting to iTunes. Alternatively, you can drag and drop multimedia to and from Xilisoft iPod Magic. The app even supports batch transfers.

Ripping a DVD to your iPod/iPhone is also very easy with Xilisoft iPod Magic. Just load the disk, hit the icon and the movie will be transferred to your device, or to iTunes, in the correct format. In fact, most video or audio that you transfer using Xilisoft iPod Magic will automatically be converted to the correct format. Xilisoft iPod Magic comes with a a neat preview window so you can see the video as it's transferring too.

On the negative side, some users might find Xilisoft iPod Magic to be a bit sluggish and unresponsive at times. It often takes a very long time to build your audio library into the window. The iTunes integration is far from perfect and a number of times Xilisoft iPod Magic managed to crash iTunes as it was trying to export music into it.

Xilisoft iPod Magic makes for a useful way to move music and video between your iPod and your Mac.

Download Xilisoft iPod Magic 4.2.4.0729 in Softonic

Pod Manager X 2.2.1-A simple way to extract music from your iPod

http://pod-manager.en.softonic.com/mac

Extracting music isn't is easy as it should be from your iPod. Apple have done their best to ensure that it can be a real pain.

If you want to extract your music while on the road or want to take some of your friend's music from their pod, this can be really annoying. Or what about if you simple want to restore music that you've accidentally deleted or lost on your hard drive? Pod Manager is a simple and effective tool for all these scenarios and it works with the minimum of fuss and effort.

Pod Manager has a slick and simple Cocoa interface that's very self explanatory. Once you've plugged in your iPod open Pod Manager to get started. Pod Manager may take a while to compile all of your music by title, artist and album but when its done, you'll have access to all of your music. Simply select the MP3 and MP4 files you'd like to extract remembering to hold down the CMD key for multiple selections.

Once you've done that, just click "Copy Selected Songs to disk" button and your music will transfer to your hard drive ready for importing into iTunes. It couldn't really be much simpler and that's the beauty of this tool although if you've got a large collection, be prepared for quite a wait while Pod Manager retrieves and then transfers your music.

If you're intimidated by complicated iPod management tools, give Pod Manager a go and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Download Pod Manager X 2.2.1 in Softonic

SweetFM 1.1.1-Dual-purpose iTunes and Last.fm controller

http://sweetfm.en.softonic.com/mac

If you regularly use iTunes and LastFM then you're going to love SweetFM. SweetFM allows you to combine the best of both applications under one controller. It used to go for almost $30 but right now it's completely free and open source.

SweetFM switches seamlessly between Last.fm and iTunes. If you get bored of listening to either application at any point, you can just switch in a click. You can configure hotkeys to control most tasks and even use your Apple Remote - useful for parties or just kicking back and relaxing.

But there's more to it than that. SweetFM extends Last.fm functionality with things such as tag-station shuffle. Just enter an artist name with some keywords and let Last.fm create the playlist for you. You can see what's next on your playlist in the dock or the status bar menu. I like the fact that SweetFM also uses album art covers retrieved from Amazon.com when playing major artists. When you first start it, this can take some time to appear though and retrieval in general tends to be a little slow.

One other thing worth bearing in mind about SweetFM is that if you want to export tracks to iTunes, it will automatically check for duplicates although this obviously relies on your music being tagged correctly. There's lots more to SweetFM than this too including CSS skin design support, Skype moods integration and handy Growl notifications.

There's little to fault with SweetFM and considering it's now completely open source and free, the time has never been better to try it.

Download SweetFM 1.1.1 in Softonic
