If you've ever been in a position where you want to close your MacBook but still want to listen to music on it through speakers, you need some way of forcing it to stay awake when the lid closes.

InsomniaX disables the sleep mode on MacBooks allowing you to disable the auto-sleep feature in Macs this allowing you to play music through speakers while it's closed.
Once installed, InsomniaX sits in your Menu bar and allows you to enable or disable it by clicking on the InsomniaX icon. You need to enter your system password to enable and disable it.
You can also select Sleep Display and Sleep System to manually put both your display and system to sleep at any time.

You can also open a log of InsomniaX's actions on your Mac and configure a number of preferences such as whether to start it automatically when connected to the mains or not.
However, use InsomniaX with care. Using your Mac with the lid closed can lead to serious system heat problems and its not advised to do it over long periods of time.

InsomniaX is perfect for those that want to listen to music with their MacBook lid closed or just want more control over Mac sleep features.

Download InsomniaX 1.3.5 in Softonic

OS X Lion 10.7-Meet the latest operating system for Mac

http://os-x-lion.en.softonic.com/mac

OS X Lion 10.7 is the latest version of Apple's operating system OS X for Mac. Coming just 18 months after the release of Snow Leopard OS X 10.6, Lion brings OS X closer to the iPhone's and iPad's iOS operating system, making full use of Trackpads and gestures to use your Mac.

Before you rush to upgrade however, don't forget to check out our advice and words of caution beforehand - some older applications simply won't work on OS X Lion due to Apple's decision to drop Rosetta support. This means you will have problems running applications like Quicken 2007, Microsoft Office 2008 and other apps which supported Power PC Macs - PPC support is gone forever in OS X Lion.

According to Apple, OS X Lion comes with more than 250 improvements and new features although many of these are minor tweaks. The biggest change however is far closer integration with iOS, the operating system of the iPhone and iPad. To take advantage of the many new finger gestures to navigate OS X however, ideally you'll need either a MacBook Pro with Magic Trackpad or an external Trackpad (around $69) although a Magic Mouse will also suffice.

For those used to using an iPad and iPhone, the OS X Lion gestures will come more naturally but for others, there will be some learning to do, although there are some excellent video tutorials included in the new Trackpad preferences pane. While some will no doubt love the new way of navigating OS X, others may not want their Mac turned into one big phone or iPad - in which case you can always still use the mouse as normal.

The other major change in OS X Lion is that you can only upgrade via the Mac App Store. There's no installation DVD as with previous versions of OS X. This obviously means that you won't have a recovery disk if something goes wrong with OS X Lion, but OS X Lion creates its own "Recovery HD" partition which, while taking up valuable disk space, means that reinstalling should be easy enough.

The most important new features in OS X Lion can be summarized as:

Multi-Touch Gestures:

Thanks to the MacBook Pro Touchpad, the Magic Trackpad and the Magic Mouse, you can perform actions using various finger movements in OS X Lion.

Launchpad and Mission Control:

Get a convenient overview of your open windows and applications in OS X Lion's Mission Control and access/organize applications much quicker with Launchpad. This provides a more iPhone like way of accessing apps as an alternative to using the Dock but unfortunately, unlike the Dock there's no way of seeing which apps are open and which aren't.

Full Screen Apps

All of your applications can now take advantage of full screen mode in Mac OS X Lion. This is something that Windows users have enjoyed for years and means that users can finally use their apps without any background distractions from OS X.

Automatic Save and Resume:

When you resume or restart your Mac, OS X Lion will resume or recover all of your documents and windows open from the last version. In addition, your work will be saved automatically and you can go back and re-visit old saves and backups. However, OS X Lion relies on the application being "Auto-Save Aware" for this function to work.

There are many other enhancements to OS X Lion too such as the ability to backup to local drives with Time Machine and there's a new handy migration tool for those switching from Windows to Mac. You can also now simply drag and drop files to other Macs in your vicinity or network via your Mac's AirPort wireless connection - a nice little feature that makes working with other Mac users easier then ever.

OS X Lion is an impressive operating system that brings the Mac closer to the iOS experience than ever before. If you're an iPhone or iPad user that loves iOS, OS X Lion can't fail to impress. If you're not, then the appeal may not be so great but there are plenty of other features and enhancements in OS X Lion worth checking out.

Download OS X Lion 10.7 in Softonic

FacebookSync 2.2-Sync your Address Book with FaceBook

http://facebooksync.en.softonic.com/mac

FacebookSync was a really handy tool to pull out all sorts of personal information from your Facebook friends and sync that your Mac Address Book. Since FacebookSync was released though, time has passed and Facebook has been criticized for its handling of private data, forcing the social network to tighten security. This means that it's harder than ever for applications like Facebook Sync.

FacebookSync could take all sorts of information including name, numbers, emails, addresses and even photos. FacebookSync will still work but you will be much more limited in the information that you can access.

FacebookSync is easy to use: once launched and your Facebook account accessed, a pop up window for every one of your contact will appear and ask you whether you want to add the information to your Address Book. Obviously it can take a little while for FacebookSync to get around it all if you have a significant amount of friends.

Once synced, your friends will have been added and filed to your Address Book. Note that FacebookSync does not let you work the other way around.

Until Facebook changed its Terms of Use, it used to be very useful for syncing friends to your Address Book. Much more restricted now.

Download FacebookSync 2.2 in Softonic

Advanced users know and trust Onyx, the maintenance and optimization tool for Mac. Deeper, created by the same developer is like a lighter version of Onyx, essentially offering up all the customization options.
The interface is divided into all the main sections that Deeper allows you to customize. You'll be able to fiddle around with the Finder graphical effects like zooming and set horizontal and vertical spacing.
Deeper also lets you choose what items you wish to show in the Finder menu.
We also liked choosing how many history items appear in Safari or setting it to automatically open up PDFs in the browser.
Another handy setting is automatically disabling the cache. In login settings, you'll be able to choose what users appear and whether to disable elements like Restart or Logout.
Deeper can also show the Debug Menu for pretty much all of your Mac features like Spotlight, your Address Book or Terminal.
While for some sections Onyx lets you adjust a good deal of settings, for others it's surprisingly limited.
The browser, for one, is limited to Safari. Similarly, settings for Dashboard and Expose don't really offer anything special.
If you don't already have Onyx, Deeper is a good app to have to fiddle around with your Mac's hidden functions.

Download Deeper 1.4.1 in Softonic

There's no need to even touch the mouse either, Shift It enables all of these functions with keyboard shortcuts.

If you do want to use the mouse, Shift It is accessible directly from the Menu bar. You can also check for updates and access a limited number of preferences from the Menu Bar.
Application Wizard lets you control your applications from one place.

The program allows you to open, close and switch from applications in seconds. You can also browse through all of them via Application Wizard's expandable menu view. The program lets you create and open groups of applications, depending on your needs, and find frequently used apps. You'll be able to set behaviors for applications, like if they open up at startup or for background-only applications to quit.

The transparent interface is unobtrusive and actually quite elegant on your Mac and having all applications shown in a menu view puts everything in your reach. When closed, the application is still available as a little panel in your menu bar, which you can also set anywhere else on the screen. It did feel a bit unintuitive, as you do not know what each light corresponds to.

Application Wizard almost works as a replacement to your Dock and Finder, as it not only shows applications, files and drives but also available and used space. You can also preview files and images.

Smart Scroll gives you more control over how you scroll pages in OS X. It makes scrolling smoother, faster and more comfortable in a number of ways.

Smart Scroll offers smooth and easy iPhone-like scrolling which the developers claim can even improve Magic Mouse and the new trackpads.
One example is the reverse scrolling feature similar to that used in iOS on iPhones. Smart Scroll also reduces the amount of time you spend scrolling by introducing an Auto Scroll feature which brings hands free scrolling to Safari Reader and Quick Look.

Other features include Hover Scroll makes which enables scrolling as soon as you hover the mouse cursor over a page and Grab Scroll which uses hand style movements to move window contents.
Of course, there's also a scroll accelerator which allows you to speed up the scrolling speed of your mouse.
However, it has been reported by some users that Smart Scroll may work with some applications better than others.
For instance, it can be "sticky" when using it in Firefox and you have to turn off Firefox's Smooth Scrolling preference under Advanced and General in the preferences to fix this.

Download Smart Scroll 3.9.1 in Softonic
