SyncMate 1.4.0.365 - Syncing from Mac to Windows Mobile

PC users aren't the only lucky ones to be blessed with easy synchronization to their Windows Mobile device. With SyncMate, Mac users can do it just as easily.

This easy to use little program works with all Windows Mobile devices, including Standard, Classic and Professional version 6. Because it is built specifically for Mac it works seamlessly with applications, such as iPhoto, iCal, iTunes and your Address Book. We liked the way the interface was structured, letting you easily browse the elements you want to sync with your Windows Mobile device.

You can transfer all your bookmarks from your browser to your Windows Mobile device. Syncmate also lets you manage all your text messages and transfer them onto your Mac, and simply redimension videos.

Normally, connecting your Mac with your Windows Mobile Device is very easy to do. However, some users have complained of some difficulties every now and then. The application is still in Beta, so we believe this might be the main reason for these issues.

All in all though, SyncMate is an excellent tool to synchronize your Mac with any Windows Mobile device.

Applications that can connect your Mac to your games console, be it Wii, Xbox 360 or PS3 are in high demand. As the name suggests, Connect360 lets your Mac interact with your Xbox 360.

As soon as Connect360 is launched and that your Xbox 360 is turned on and connected you should which services have been detected and which ones are active in the program's interface. Although you can connect your Xbox 360 via cable, Connect360 also works well via WiFi.

Connect360 handles all sorts of media, from image files to videos and audio tracks. It works particularly well with iTunes, so you can easily browse for and play back music via your Xbox 360.

If there are any file formats that the application may have trouble dealing with Connect360 will normally transcode them to a format that the Xbox 360 will be able to play.

If there is one glaring issue in Connect 360, it's simply that it doesn't handle subcategories, or folders in folders. Unfortunately a new version of the application hasn't been released in a while, but we hope the next iteration will solve this issue.

Connect360 is a solid application to stream all your media seamlessly from your Mac to your Xbox 360.

SmartSynchronize 3.0.2 - Easily compare, synchronize and merge two folders

If you need to synchronise a particular file or directory regularly then SmartSynchronize can help make sure that it's taken care of.

SmartSynchronize is a multi-platform file and directory comparison tool which is designed to continually compare two files or directory trees, merge changes between files and directories (i.e. synchronize them) or to 3-way-merge changes of one file which has been changed independently.

What marks SmartSynchronize out from other synchronizers is that it's extremely intelligent as to what's changed and how much synchronisation is needed. This means that SmartSynchronize only copies those parts of a file that are necessary and doesn't keep kicking in at annoying moments. It utilises something called "inner-line change detection" to detect the most subtle changes

SmartSynchronize also gives you a high degree of control over which files, or parts of files, you want to keep synced. It's useful if you want to use on other machines too as you can save sync profiles so that you can perform the same synchronization routines on other computers without having to setup anything other than install SmartSynchronize.

The major drawback of SmartSynchronize however is that it's all controlled from a command line interface. While this should not be a problem for advanced users, beginners will find it confusing and difficult to use.

SmartSynchronize is a useful way to target and synchronise one or a few particular files across multiple machines but it's not the most user friendly option out there.

Super Flexible File Synchronizer 4.22 - Powerful data synchronization across multiple devices

Synchronisation is becoming increasingly important with so many different portable devices able to handle huge amounts of data - the ability to work on the road has never been easier which is why Super Flexible File Synchronizer was made.

Super Flexible File Synchronizer can back up data and to synchronize PCs, Macs, servers and notebooks. Everything is neatly organised in multiple profiles and it supports FTP servers, ZIP compression, data encryption, and a scheduler for automated backups. In Windows NT/2000/XP, the Super Flexible File Synchronizer scheduler can run as a service - without users even having to log on which makes it a good solution for network administrators wanting to make sure users continually back up their data.

The GUI is elegant and well designed with Super Flexible File Synchronizer allowing you to choose files and folders across the whole folder hierarchy in tree-views. Super Flexible File Synchronizer also features support for e-mail notification, profile categories, and various filters. Super Flexible File Synchronizer is most effective when used via the scheduler though - it can be configured to backup to an FTP server without any need to even log on.

Cross platforms, an attractive interface and quick synching make Super Flexible File Synchronizer a decent proposition for anyone working on the move.

Synchronize! Pro X 6.0.4 - The professional way to mirror, backup, or sync files

As the amount of devices we use and places where we store files increases, it can be incredibly difficult to keep the same information everywhere. Syncing has just become a daily part of our work.

Synchronize! Pro X gives you up to five different synchronization options, from simple backup to syncing files, bootable syncing backup, verify and custom. This last one is not the most interesting of all as Synchronize! Pro X does not offer that many settings to tweak anyways.

Synchronize! Pro X generally syncs files pretty quickly and is easy to configure. The little drawing at the top lets you know which files is being copied with which. On the whole though, I was rather disappointed by the outdated interface, which is not that intuitive to use. It still looks like Synchronize! Pro X is running under Panther even if you are using Leopard.

Synchronize! Pro X is a simple syncing solutions, but I can't help but think that it could offer a bit more. If you are looking for a quick and simple solution it will do the trick though.

SuperSync 2.4 - Synchronize your music library and access it online

Since I keep my music library on different devices and computers I often get annoyed when a track is in one place and not in the other. I found that SuperSync is a good tool when it comes to easily synchronizing my music libraries between multiple computers. The well defined interface is very similar to that of Apple's iTunes, with a list of all track from all libraries appearing at the bottom of the interface. The top part is divided into sections for filters, genre, artist and album. The application helps you to import your music from iTunes or from a hard drive and you can easily search for other local music servers. On a side note, SuperSync also feature a nice little tool to analyze your IP address and know if your connection will enable you to use SuperSync's servers to transfer tracks.

The interface feels well structured, yet we would have liked to be able to resize the different sections around, as the top part feels a bit scrunched up in the program window. SuperSync features a music player to listen to tracks, but it feels pretty limited, as it only really lets you play stop, or move to other tracks.

SuperSync simplifies transferring music between computers. Make sure you stay in the realms of legality when sharing music tracks though!

ChronoSync is an easy to use data management tool that allows you to efficiently synchronize files and folders from one disk location to another. Using the document-based interface, you can easily identify a group of files, specify a destination, then schedule the action to occur as often as necessary. Perform trial syncs and compare files so you always know the status of every file. Filter out specific files and folders using rules and exclusions. Archive deleted files in case you need to restore an older version.

ChronoSync monitors the state of all your files so it only copies files that have been changed, keeping your synchronization time to a minimum. Whether you are doing a simple backup or complex synchronization, ChronoSync is flexible enough to handle it.

Picnic is another solution to easily share files or folders between two Macs. Make sure Picnic is set up on your computers first and that your local area network is working properly. Once this is done, you'll only need to work in the Picnic interface. Press the + button at the bottom left to add new folders or files that you wish to add. They'll all be listed on the left side of the interface. On the right, the program is neatly divided into three tabs for subscribers, conflicts and queues to monitor your synchronisation. When you add a folder to Picnic it should appear in the Picnic folder, from where you'll be able to sync it to your other Mac.

You can effortlessly subscribe or unsubscribe to other users thanks to the button at the bottom of the interface and Picnic lets you add a password to protect your files. Mac users will also appreciate that Picnic can sync all user accounts using Bonjour. Even though synchronizing files can bug every now and then, Picnic offers a simple, no-fuss process to transfer files on a local area network.

If you're the proud owner of a Sony PSP and a Mac, you want to be able to transfer your videos, images and songs easily from both devices. Luckily, iPSP offers a friendly interface through which you can swap all these files with little effort.

At startup, iPSP automatically scans your Mac for all media, and divides files into specific categories such as music, videos, documents and bookmarks. It even lets you backup your PSP gamesaves on your Mac and disc images.

If you're creative enough that you've actually developed games or utilities for the PSP, these can be transferred via the Homebrew section. Your creations can be edited and you can select the format to use.

You'll find a PSP section at the bottom which gives you an overview of how much space all the different media takes up on your Sony device.

I would have liked to see a good help guide to assist you in getting to grips with the program.

Share Menu is a system that connects a Macintosh OS X machine to a Windows or Samba network. Unlike the existing Apple Samba system, Share Menu shows each share using full length names, and is not limited to fourteen characters. This removes the need to have special Macintosh share names that can be found using the Finder connect to server menu option. With the favourite shares section, the menu can be set to show only those shares which are of concern to you, or if preferred, all of the shares can be displayed in the menu by simply selecting Show shares in the Share Menu system preferences.
MSAD Login is a system that connects a Macintosh OS X machine to a Windows server running Active Directory. Connecting to a Windows server allows OS X users to mount their home drive (using SMBFS) and get notifications when passwords are about to expire. When you are not connected to the network you can still login to your computer, which is of particular use for Powerbooks. Another benefit is that no changes are needed in the Active Directory schema, which will help to keep Windows network administrators happy. The most useful feature of MSAD Login is the share menu (status bar menu) that can be used to easily mount network shares.

FoldersSynchronizer is a nifty and popular utility for Macintosh (Classic and Mac OS X Jaguar, Panther and Tiger) which synchronizes and backs-up files, folders and disks. The user can choose one or more pairs of files/folders/disks and then they will be synchronized/backed-up exactly. FoldersSynchronizer is available also as lite version.
