LaserHairRemoval - The 'complete' laser hair removal reference library

You will be disappointed to know that with this application you can’t actually get any of your hair removed. I know, what a pity. Actually, LaserHairRemoval just provides information, videos with pros and cons and many links to get updated on the technology and maybe share your experience.

Technically speaking, I’m sorry to say that this application doesn’t add a lot to what you can probably get with an online search on YouTube and by browsing some forums. Some of the videos are even unavailable and the information is not properly organised. You can read some interesting articles, but you would be able to find them anyway, without this software. In any case, it’s a collection of opinions, experiences and information you might need to read before deciding to undergo a contemporary Jedi light saber.

Although this application is nothing more than a collection of badly organised information about hair laser removal, some of the content can be worth reading and viewing before going to the doctor.

Yoga Trainer - Complete the test to have a tailored yoga exercise plan

The good aspect of having a piece of software instead of a human being teaching you Yoga, would be that you can watch and re-watch movements again and again. What’s more, you can read clear explanations, and get a tailored exercise plan based on your physical characteristics, which is important to define the most useful exercises for you.

This is what Yoga trainer does, or what it’s meant to do anyway. When you run the software for the first time in fact, you have to answer a questionnaire about your habits at work and in your private life. Whether you feel stressed, tired, angry, sleepy, if you dream while sleeping, if you have frequent headaches or if you often wake up during the night, these are all important factors to determine the most suitable yoga exercises you should practice.

Unfortunately in the demo version is not possible to really see whether this application will be useful or not. Surely after the test, you have a list of exercise to do. From what I could see, when clicking on the exercises of relaxation, breathing and asanas, what you get is a voice guiding you and just one image. It would have been much more useful to have an animation explaining you how to move correctly. Just having an audio file, which is pretty unclear at times, is a bit of a limitation.

If you want to know more about Yoga, especially the theory behind exercises, have a look at Yoga trainer. It’s good to have a tailored exercise plan based on your behaviour and habits. Unfortunately, because of the application’s poor usability, I’m not sure you’ll get a lot more than this.

Diet Science 2.0 - Advice for a balanced diet with easy to understand charts

If you are spending too much time in front of a computer and you have something of a sedentary life-style, a good healthy diet might help your general condition and this software may come handy.

If healthy food were as flat and boring as the interface of this program, you would have all the reasons you need to avoid it! The design is unbelievably poor and unfortunately, in the trial version it’s not possible to see the selection of recipes. It is possible though, to calculate your Body Mass Index by entering your height and weight. You may as well have a look at your Metabolic Syndrome by going into more detail, such as the fasting blood glucose, waist circumference and finally entering your blood pressure. The software also gives you some indication about the Vegetarian, Asian, Mediterranean and USDA diets, together with Diet Pyramids and a Glycemic Index of common food items.

This of course should not substitute a visit to your doctor in case of serious diet problems, but it can help you to have an idea of what is a balanced diet and how many calories we should have on a daily basis.

If you need some help to understand how many calories you need, or whether yours is a balanced diet, Diet Science may help but it’s let down by an ugly design.

CRON-O-Meter 0.9.3 - Free, cross-platform dieting and nutrition software

The beginning of summer is the worst time of the year for those who are a bit overweight. It's when caring about one's figure turns almost into an obsession, because everyone wants to show off a slim body in a nice, colorful swimsuit.

But going on severe diets just a couple of weeks before hitting the beach is never a good idea. Keeping a healthy, slender body is a question of practicing sport and eating properly, and now you can count on CRON-O-Meter to help you out. This simple tool enables you to keep track of everything you eat, including all the calories, vitamins, minerals and other important elements, and see the results in terms of weight.

The program features a complete database with more than 7,000 types of food and their corresponding nutritional values and also lets you add your own food types and recipes. It supports several users so that everyone in the family can benefit from the program.

Using CRON-O-Meter is as easy as entering what you eat every day and then tracking the amount of calories, proteins, carbohydrates and other elements that you're ingesting. The program lets you set nutritional targets and also create reports with your progress. The only thing I missed was a sport activity tracking tool, but apparently that's an upcoming feature in future versions.

With CRON-O-Meter you can carry a healthier lifestyle by keeping track of what you eat on a daily basis and therefore controlling your daily ingest of vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates and other important nutritional elements. Too bad it doesn't let you track sport routines as well!

MB Heart Attack Risk Calculator 1.10 - Calculate your risk of suffering from a heart attack in the next ten year

MB Heart Attack Risk Calculator is meant to calculate your risk of suffering from a heart attack in the next 10 years and provides the result as a percentage.

The interface is quite ugly although in this case it’s not so important, although it may cause some surprise when you see it.The program starts by asking you your age. If you are below 30 years-old, you can’t proceed unfortunately. This program is just for an audience that is over 30 andthere should be a warning somewhere when you download it.
Anyway, the following question is about your systolic blood pressure. I know the vast majority of you don’t know what this is, but I’m sure if you had your blood tested, there will be a value between 98 and 186 referring to this. Enter your cholesterol level, which should be between 139 and 331 and specify the HDL, the good cholesterol. That’s all you have to insert to know the probability of having a heart attack in the next 10 years, expressed as a percentage.

I think a couple of other questions should have been added in the test. If you are a woman under HRT, hormonal replacement therapy, for example the probability of having a heart attack rises a lot especially when combined with smoking. Also, everyone consuming hydrogenated fats increases considerably their probability of having a heart attack.

If you recently had your blood tested and you want to calculate how healthy your system is, enter the required figures in this software to gain a quick result on your probability of staying healthy for the next 10 years.

MB Calorie Calculator - Calculate the daily calorie intake that your body requires

So you are wondering if you can eat that ice cream for desert or not. If only you could know your daily calorie allowance, you would know approximately if that sweet indulgence would fit in or not.

MB Calorie Calculator, is an application that calculates your daily calorie need, based on your age, sex, height and weight. You can choose to insert the data either in meter or inches and kilograms or pounds. To be honest, at least for the height, it’s better if you enter the value in pounds because I think the program has some problems with kilograms: you can only select a value from one to ten butwhat should I enter if I’m 184cm tall? Once set, the program asks you about your life style and precisely about your daily activity, which can be sedentary, light, moderate or high activity. Now press the ‘calculate my required calories’ button to unveil the number which will tell you whether to feel guilty or not about the desert.

Discover your daily calorie requirement with MB Calorie Calculator. Follow the easy questions and get a clear result.

Natural Healing 1.0 - Here's an encyclopaedia of natural remedies with over 250 entries

I was at first intrigued by the name of this application, hoping to find many useful information and advices on how to conduct a more natural and healthier lifestyle. Unfortunately, this program doesn’t include much in the way of multimedia and it’s nothing more than a basic database of text contents.

The general graphics of Natural Healing have clearly not been designed to be in any way relaxing and the way topics are organised is also unclear. In the shareware version though, you are not able to read that much of the contents, as you will often find a message telling you to register instead of leaving you trying the database to see if it’s worth buying it.

The only section I have found of useful was the ‘Afflictions’ one, where you have a list of diseases in alphabetical order with their definitions at the bottom and on the side, offering interesting information about herbal remedies and Vitamins/Minerals you can take, and also a Homeopathy, Pharmaceutical and ‘grandmother’ section to know every possible cure method available. The program also suggests you yoga positions that are supposed to help in certain conditions. Again, it would have been much more useful if it had showed also how do practice these yoga exercises, otherwise you are left with nothing but a name.

Natural Healing is an encyclopaedia of natural remedies which can come handy if you don’t have an internet connection available. Unfortunately, it could have been a great resource with images, videos and animation; instead it’s no more than a textual database of illness and remedies.

Doctors always remind us of the importance of taking frequent, short breaks while working with computers but, honestly, how many of us actually take them?

Off4Fit is a simple tool that makes sure you follow the doctor's advice, not only taking the necessary pauses while working with a PC, but also doing some stretching exercises that will help you avoid certain RSI conditions caused by repetitive movements.

Once you set the time interval you want to have between pauses (60 minutes ideally) the program will be running in the background until the break alarm goes off. You can then open it up and do some simple stretching and relaxing exercises for your eyes, hands and whole body, following a 3D virtual model's movements.

Besides this basic functionality Off4Fit doesn't include any more advanced features. I personally missed having more exercises to choose from and more possibilities when setting up a schedule. Also, the program displays a few obtrusive ads although, luckily, these can be turned off.

With Off4Fit you can schedule short breaks while you're working with the PC and follow the program's guidelines to some basic stretching exercises.

Ovulation Calendar Calculator 2.1 - Calculate your chances of conceiving a child

Becoming pregnant can be a laborious process, not in terms of the act of intercourse, which is usually quite fun, but in trying to work out the dates when you are at your most fertile. What's more, it always seems that those who don't want to get pregnant are the ones most likely to conceive, such is the irony of life.

Personally, I don't ovulate but if I did then I reckon I'd find this program pretty useful. It can be used to show you which days are the best to have sexual relations if you want a baby. Consequently, if you don't want one then Ovulation Calendar Calculator lets you know the dates to avoid. The program presents information very clearly, and works by assessing your menstrual cycle and basal temperature to provide you with a percentage of likelihood of conception, even helping you create the gender you want.

Besides the fertility calculator, the application includes a number of other useful tools for if you strike it lucky. There's a utility for monitoring your weight, calories and excercise, along with a blood pressure counter and a special calming alarm that regulates your sleep cycle.

If you want to get pregnant or if you don't want to get pregnant, this application provides you with a definite advantage.

Working long hours in front of the computer can end up causing all manner of injuries and illnesses. Good lighting, the correct working position and taking breaks are all very important in maintaining your health. However, it's not always easy to remember all this when you are engrossed in work.

TakeYourBreak is designed to remind you when you need to take breaks and how to design your working environment for best results. It tells you when you need to get up and walk around, stretch your legs or just take a coffee and thus avoid problems such as neck pain, tendinitis or RSI.

Their diverse configuration options allow you to choose the time interval that you want to take between rests which you can tweak until you feel you've got it right. If you work at home or don't have colleagues around you to take a coffee with, this is a really useful application although once you've established a rhythm, you'll find the warnings annoying.

With permanent and long-term computer work, you are vulnerable to eyesight deterioration, back and hand pain, headaches and eye problems. Why endure this needless stress?

In order to prevent these potential problems, most ergonomic experts advise taking regular, short breaks in computer work to relax the eyes, the hands, the wrists (vulnerable to carpal tunnel syndrome), shoulders, and back. But with heavy workloads and hyperfocus on work, we forget to take periodic breaks, and often ignore reminders. UsefulRest has an inexpensive solution to compel you, your fellow workers, children, and other loved ones to take that much-needed break. With UsefulRest software, you can program your computer to freeze when you want for up to fifteen minutes per hour.

UsefulRest does it all for you. This easy-to-use software allows you to customize the duration of your work and the number and length of pauses. It also features degrees of blocking and a number of degrees of protection. And if you have children, UsefulRest is a safe, inexpensive way to train them to take much-needed breaks and establish healthy work habits.

With so many 'urgh, look at that big fat celebrity'-style magazines floating around today, it's easy to see why a large section of today's female (and, to some extent, male) population are obsessed with their weight. If you're one of those trying to win the battle of the bulge then you may find EGDiet pretty helpful. The program can be used to control the diet of one, or several people, keeping track of what you have for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The app encorporates a database of foods bigger than Oprah's waistband and indicates the properties, calorie content, carbohydrates, protein, etc. in all of these. Handily, it also gives you the option to add more to the database. EGDiet is deisgned to help you maintain a strict eating regime and records your weight, height, chest, hips, etc. to calculate your body mass and the amount of excess fat you have. Although it can become very tedious inputting everything you put into your mouth into the program, if you're serious about shedding some pounds, then EGDiet is a useful aid.

Kanecki Personality Analyzer 1 - Determine a person's Jungian personality type

Jung did a lot of great work in analyzing personality types and this application takes his teachings and uses them to create a profile of someone. Determining someone's personality is a very quick four-step process based around ticking a series of check boxes that best describe the user. Once you've entered the information, the app provides a fairly detailed breakdown of the person's make-up and particular environments that they would thrive in.

On paper, this might sound like a very good way of profiling someone, say, for instance, for a job interview. However, the test itself leaves a lot to be desired. For starters, you're asked to tick five attributes that best describe you from a list of only around ten. This means that you end up having to compromise and tick boxes that don't really apply to your subject, skewing the test somewhat. Some of these attributes are also pretty vague (I don't recall Jung ever assessing someone's 'perspiration'). As a result, it makes you question the validity of the test results.

Going cold turkey? Sober Time will tell you how many days and hours you haven't touched the bottle or taken a smoke. The application doesn't require much from you, just enter the date at which you have decided to gone sober.

Apart from that function there's not really anything else that Sober Time can do for you. The program can tell you how long you've been sober but ultimately you're the only one responsible of whether you drink or not.
