You can use a range of martial arts in your struggle against the dark forces of the Stones Metin.

This classic role-playing game is based online with different classes based on various martial arts weapons. You can use swords, spears or bows and over time, your aim is to become the most powerful warrior in the Orient. Graphically, the game is steeped in Oriental symbols with some fantastic buildings and backdrops although it's the excellent soundtrack that sticks in the mind. The battle scenes are also pretty memorable as you take on warriors from other empires in your quest for dominance of the continent. You can switch between a mix of martial arts from what seems like kung fu to taikwando and karate.

If you like kung fu and martial arts games, then you'll love this - great graphics and a great soundtrack mix to make it a beat-em-up classic.

Download Metin2 20080915 in Softonic

Despite the game title, a player has a choice of three different vehicles: a tank, a rocket launcher, and a Shilka self-propelled artillery system. Each vehicle has its own performance characteristics and its own weapons.

To the point, game locations are stuffed with tons of various weapons--just pick up and fire! In the current version, several types of missiles and gun ammo are available; also there are MG turrets, troops langing and kamikaze terrorists. Various upgrades for vehicles are coming soon, including armor and engine mods!

And of course, the game has multiplayer! No special server is needed; one player just launches the game in multiplayer mode and chooses the map and maximum number of players--other players will simply join the game then. In addition, the good old split screen mode will let you and your friend run the crazy duel on the single computer!

Download Battle Tanks 0.8.7479 in Softonic

However there are companies like Frogwares that still believe in this genre, and keep on publishing conversational adventures.

This is the case of Dracula: Origin, a vampire game that follows the traditional point & click pattern and presents you with a truly Gothic adventure full of mystery, romance and terror, in a gloomy environment.

Though I personally don't enjoy this kind of games that much, I must admit Dracula: Origin looks pretty impressive. The game stands out for its highly detailed graphics in the design of characters and especially in the recreation of environments. The sense of realism makes the game experience even more pleasant and rewarding.

The story is also quite an interesting one. You play the role of Van Helsing, the famous scientific whose main aim in life is to destroy the so called Prince of Darkness. Your objectives will then be exploring all the locations you visit, talk to other characters, gather different objects and try to get hints from them all that could take you to Dracula. Like in similar adventures, gameplay is basically reduced to using your mouse to move your character, use objects in your inventory, talk to other people and other actions.

Dracula: Origin will surely please fans of this genre. However it also requires a lot of patience, so if you're not really into conversational adventures maybe you should look elsewhere.

Download Dracula: Origin Demo in Softonic

Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3

Along with Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat is one of the all-time great fighting games. It was also probably the first 2D title to that succeeded in simulating a 3D experience. In the late 80s, the game seemed so realistic that people thought it was unsuitable for younger players. Looking at it now, surely you wouldn’t say it is ‘realistic’, but you can still say it’s really violent. The final attacks, called ‘fatality’ or ‘brutality,’ definitely fit into this back this up.

In the third version of Mortal Kombat, the 'Ultimate' one, you can choose between 24 characters, each with their own special moves. To configure the keys you’d like to use, go to the Options > Set Config > Controllers menu; at this point, choose '6btn Pad' in the Port1 line and click Define. Now press the keys you would like to use to jump, move right, left, punch and kick by following the directions you see at the bottom of the frame.

If you are brave enough to face the bloody characters of Ultimate MK3, give this faithful reproduction of the game a try and see how close you get to the cliff’s edge.

Download Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 in Softonic

You will of course remember Sonic, the cool blue porcupine, who has to run around in a 3D world to collect rings, kill robots by jumping over their heads and, most important of all, gathering up the furry animals you meet during the game to free them.

When you have collected five of them, you’ll need to run in the big teleport ring, which will bring you to the next level, of which there are fourteen. As you proceed through the game you might also encounter Knuckles and Tails, the other two well-known characters of the story, which will bring you to bonus stage for extra ring-points.

Although it’s a classic game, it will take you a while to get use to the 3D movements if you are used to play to the 2D version. The playability is good, and it’s a good game for passing some time, whose 3D fluidity reminds you of Marble Madness.

If you were a fan of Sonic, it’s worth trying this 3D adventure, which, although isn’t exactly cutting-edge, is still an entertaining game which will help you roll back the years.

Download Sonic 3D Blast in Softonic

You can choose from 17 character designs and fight against one or more persons in the different scenarios available through LAN or the Internet. The latest release also incorporates "fair" player spawning, the ability to kick players, and a very cute welcome screen to encourage players to set their names and favorite settings before playing their first game. The game has quite a few similarities to the Worms series of games, with the big exception that Teeworlds is played in real-time, while Worms is turn based.

The game is played using both mouse and keyboard - A/D moves your "Tee" left and right, W/spacebar makes it jump, and the mouse is used to aim and fire. Right-clicking launches a grappling hook, which can be used to move around the map quickly, and also grab other players. The game is so far free-for-all only, but a Capture the flag mode seems to be in the works. The problem comes if you try to set up your own server to play against a friend though - it's immensely complicated but there is an FAQ to help you through.

Fun, action packed and easy to play - if only Teeworlds was easier to play against others over the net, it would be even better.

Download Teeworlds 0.4.2 in Softonic

In fact Winboard works more as a graphic front-end for several different chess engines included with the game, as well as for several chess game modes. These include not only player vs player or human vs computer competitions, but also games played online and even by email. WinBoard also lets you save games at any moment and resume them exactly at the same point where you left them, and review previous games as a way to remember good movements or learn new techniques.

As for graphics, WinBoard is quite simple. The chess board is just a squared 2D window with flat pieces – no three dimensions or shadow effects. Well, at least you can customize the board's size and colors in the program's options menu.

Despite its graphical simplicity, WinBoard is a good choice for all chess fans who want to practice this ancient game, either against the PC or in online competitions.

Download WinBoard 4.2.7 in Softonic

Really Rather Good Battles In Space 1.06

Really Rather Good Battles In Space is a real time strategy game with fleets of spaceships. It is a single player real time strategy game following the fall of the great Artillian empire.

The main gripe I have with this game is that it just too short. It doesn't seem to comprise no more than a few levels which are over before you've really got going - and without much of a challenge either. On level one, you merely have to shoot and destroy 50 ships followed by a rather unimaginative level 2 where the aim is 200 ships. The main difference in the challenge level is that the ships move a hell of a lot faster on level 2 but it's still hardly difficult. The movement of your ship is also rather odd - there seems to be some kind of lag between then movements you make with your mouse and the actual moves the ship makes - if it makes them at all. While the graphics are only 2D, they are actually one of the better aspects of the game creating a realistic feel of sometime in 4000AD when the game is set. The music also adds to a realistic and atmospheric feel and the game is proceeded by a short tutorial (which you don't really need).

Overall this is not one that space adventure fans will really love but if you just want a quick blast with some nice graphics, it does the job.

Download Really Rather Good Battles In Space 1.06 in Softonic

This original 2D platform game has been designed and developer in a similar way to that of other more traditional platform games: horizontal scrolls, different obstacles to overcome and several stages to beat. But the one feature that makes Polarity stand out is the usage of magnetic powers as the main weapon of your character.

This means that in order to complete each level, you need to make use of your suit's magnetic powers, either to stick yourself to certain places or to fly over some other areas thanks to the power of magnetic repulsion. It may look easy, but that's only during the first few levels. As you progress along Polarity, you'll find increasingly challenging obstacles that will put your logic to test.

As for graphics, they're not exactly brilliant – but they do the trick. A somewhat dull, dark background enables you to focus on platforms and your character's movements, which in the end is the most important element in the game.

Polarity is a 2D platform game with basic graphics and a very original idea: using magnetism to move through obstacles and complete each game stage.

Download Polarity in Softonic

Football Manager obviously falls in the latter, as you can tell from its name, and offers gamers a comprehensive simulators that covers every single aspect of football management, from hiring players to game tactics, including training schedule, salaries and of course, dealing with team supporters.

In fact, the game is so complete that it feels just too overwhelming when you run it for the first time. Also, the fact that the tutorial is broken doesn't help either. The game is very simple to handle and you'll only need to use four keys and your mouse in order to guide Pablo the penguin through the story.

However, the gameplay itself is far from straightforward and the sheer number of brainwashed penguins that come at you make the action very frantic. Like most other MMORPGs, MapleStory presents you with the chance to take part in a story of a fantasy land, defeating monsters and collaborating with other players in real time.

However, the difference with MapleStory is that it is unbelievably simple to pick up and play. The missions are very easy to understand and the 2D side-scrolling gameplay makes a fresh change from the usual role players. Best of all, the controls are very straightforward and you'll need nothing more than the cursor keys and two more keys. These control keys can be customized very easily just by dragging and dropping icons onto the appropriate key on screen. The cutsey Japanese cartoon-style graphics may not be to everyone's liking but we reckon they're gorgeous and help to make MapleStory a fantastic alternative to the run-of-the-mill MMORPGs.

Download MapleStory in Softonic

Computer Touring Car Championship is a game filled literally with lots of twists, turns and surprises. If you were a big fan of Micro Machines, Supercars or Slicks then you'll probably really enjoy this. The game works on a pay-per-race basis. With each victory you earn money which you use to customise your car or pay for essential repairs. The ultimate aim is to build a car that can win the Computer Touring Car Championship.

Each vehicle is totally different and by tuning them individually, you can customise them to make them completely your own. The circuits vary in difficulty depending on the amount of money at stake and the key is not to turn with the corners but to judge the approach before you hit them. On the way, watch out for wreckage, oil slicks and other awkward obstacles. The midi-sounding soundtrack leaves something to be desired although fortunately you can turn it off and just have the sound effects.

This is a pretty addictive game although it takes a long time to master keeping your car on the track. Winning races is very difficult indeed and expect to spend many hours playing if you expect to make big bucks!

Download Computer Touring Car Championship 0.6.1 Beta in Softonic

It is open-source software so the source is included in the download package from Sourceforge.

Anyone who played games back in the day of the SNES will recognize just about everything in this game except maybe for the added extra of a level editor. Activated by F8 in the game, you can insert any graphic file as a background or massive sprite in the game. Many standard graphics like hedges and ground sprites are included. You can insert enemies, set the player's start position on the level, insert active sprites, and create semi-solid sprites which the player can jump through, but can not fall through.

Download Secret Maryo Chronicles 0.99.7 in Softonic

Halo: Hell on Earth Trilogy

The original Halo game sparked a revolution in first-person shooters and is perhaps the main reason the XBox has shifted so many copies. This peculiar version is not a new installment of the game but more a 2D conversion of the previous three. Thankfully it includes the same weapons, same enemies, and an enormous amount of levels to negotiate.

Hell on Earth Trilogy certainly presents a large enough challenge to keep you coming back for more for some time. Compared to the originals, however, the 2D action is far less emmersive and you don't get the same fear factor as turning a dark corner to be welcomed by a room full of flesh-eating aliens in this side-scrolling affair. Nevertheless this game is free and enjoyable in its own right.

Download Halo: Hell on Earth Trilogy in Softonic

Micro Tanks 1

There are dozens of tank games around at the moment and Micro Tanks is one of the most basic you'll see. The object of the game is to patrol a series of battlefields fending off rival tanks with bullets and capturing bases. What starts off as a fun way to kill some time turns in to a fairly mundane affair.

Graphically the game is very uninsipiring - the generic sprites backgrounds are not very detailed, the backgrounds are blocky and the animation is pretty slow. Likewise, the sounds aren't up to much, and save for the odd explosion FX, there's little to occupy your ears. Another drawback of the program is that you can't save your progress, which means you need to endure all the early levels every time you play. That said, Micro Tanks is fun for a few minutes, until you realise there are many far better warfare games out there.

Download Micro Tanks 1 in Softonic

FireHawk PC 1.21

FireHawk is one of those unashamedly fun, silly games that are just perfect for mobile phones. It's a classic-style arcade shooter, in which you pilot an aircraft and destroy all enemies in your path. Your plane spits out bullets and bombs constantly, so no need to hit a 'fire' key. In fact, it's pretty difficult not to destroy your first few enemies and, at first, the game feels like it's a bit too easy. As things progress, however, the game gets harder and the bosses get nastier! In terms of graphics, FireHawk performs well, but not brilliantly. The game's sound effects are OK but the repetitive electronic soundtrack is pretty irritating. Luckily, the music and SFX volume can be changed separately.

Unfortunately, FireHawk doesn't translate very well to a Windows desktop. The gameplay is still undeniably fun and addictive but the graphics, sounds, controls and menus have had nothing changed in their move from smartphone to PC. In fact, the game menu still includes a setting for 'Vibrate' - not a feature you find on many computers. This is definitely an enjoyable game but we felt it could have been implemented better.

Download FireHawk PC 1.21 in Softonic

BodyPaint 3D 3.1

Bodypaint 3D is an image editing application that unites all the necessary 3D tools in one window: colors, materials, layers, animations and structure. Principally used to create animations for video games or cartoons it gives you some liberty in the creation process by letting you see the results of your work in real time.

Since the main screen shows your work directly in 3D instead of 2D, you can get a good idea of colors and shapes, and using the mouse to zoom in or out is really easy. The only drawback would be that Bodypaint tends to use a high level of your CPU, around 72 MB when we tested it. The program also has extended render settings offering the likes of batch rendering, render active objects or rendering a region.

Download BodyPaint 3D 3.1 in Softonic
