Pixelmator 1.2.3

Long awaited by the Mac crowd, the beauty that is Pixelmator is finally out. This intuitive and sleek image editor can be seen as a slimmed down version of Photoshop. It integrates layers and filters perfectly and gives you all the essential tools of a good image editor: brushes, magic wand, objects, text, gradients and fills. The multi-windowed interface makes it very easy to edit. Every time you select a different tool, you'll notice that the "Tool" window at the bottom left will change to show the settings for that tool. Similarly, depending on the selected tool, the "brush" window on the right will offer different settings.

It's recommended that you have a Core Image supported graphics card when you use Pixelmator, and you'll understand why after experiencing the smooth transitions and flowing movements of the different elements of the application. The dark, slightly transparent look of the interface also sets it apart from other image editors.

Pixelmator is an excellent image editor in a gorgeous interface. It may not offer Photoshop shortcuts, nor all of the effects you can find in Adobe's image editing app, but Pixelmator looks great, is very intuitive and has pretty much all the effects and filters you'd need.

Download Pixelmator 1.2.3 in Softonic

You'll be able to apply a fish eye effect, modify perspective, chromatic aberation and vignetting. PTLens also lets you correct barrel-pincushion distortion on a wide range of camera models. It doesn't seem to allow you to add new models though. Adding effects is really easy thanks to sliders and you can immediately see the changes in the preview. You can also simply disable an effect you don't want by unselecting it.

The program's interface does feel a little clunky, and you wonder why the directory is on the right, instead of next to the preview. We appreciate that plugins for Photoshop and Aperture and an external editor for Adobe Lightroom come in the installer though, so you can also use it in your favorite photo editor. The plugins will work exactly as the standalone application.

Despite the slightly unintuitive interface, PTLens is an excellent tool for correcting image distortion. Recommended for any serious photographer!

Download PTLens 1.1.1 in Softonic

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is any photographer's dream application come true.

The application allows both professional and advanced photographers to import, store, organize, edit and export thousands of pictures from one uncluttered interface. You can create sets and collections to store your pictures and add tags to every individual photo. The time line view at the bottom is a great way to quickly browse through pictures.

Editing tools are located on the right of the interface. The Quick Develop section works wonders to adjust things like white balance, exposure or vibrance quickly. For advanced editing you'll have to go to the 'Develop' section though. This is where you'll be able to correct details, camera calibration, split toning and more. Lightroom lets you create virtual copies so you can edit elements without affecting the original.

Adobe's photo management tool also includes a section to create your own slideshow, including transitions and overlays. Although it creates nice slideshows it felt a bit counterintuitive. We also liked how in-depth the print settings were, letting you adjust things like margins or print resolution very precisely. The last section allows you to optimize your photos for the web and create a flash gallery and a postcard viewer among others.

Ligthroom is still in Beta and you'll find it can occasionally slow down. On the whole though, it truly is a top of the range photo management tool. Serious photographers will find it makes working with thousands of images much easier. This Beta is good to test out new features although it can be a little unstable at times.

PhotoZoom uses its own S-Spline XL developed technology to perform the task. Fitted with simple yet powerful tools in a slightly bloated interface, the application gives you many ways to zoom in and change the size of your image. After you've opened a picture in PhotoZoom, you can rotate, flip and crop it until satisfied with its arrangement.

From the side menu on the left you can easily zoom in and browse onto your image thanks to the navigation box and set the size in different metric settings. However the more interesting features are the resize methods and new sizes. PhotoZoom offers 11 different resize methods including bi-cubic, bilinear and mitchell. You can also adjust image size to specific TV settings like NTSC or Pal, HDV or desktop for your computer. PhotoZoom even includes a very thorough list of print presets such as envelope, sheet or tabloid. These come in very handy if you know exactly what you want to use your image for.

Overall, we were satisfied with the application's performances. One little nag we had with it though was the slightly bloated interface, which you could have been better structured.

Despite the interface, PhotZoom is a good solution to resize any image to a specific format.

Download PhotoZoom Pro 2.3.2 in Softonic

FontAgent Pro manages to do this well. The application includes both smart search and keyword search to easily find any font you're looking for. Fonts are well categorized and easy to find via the main window. We encourage you to create smart sets to also arrange them to your preferred order. You can quickly access the ones you want via smart activation.

In terms of performance, FontAgent does not seem to suffer any slow down even if you have a large library of more than a 1,000 fonts. FontAgent also include many handy tools to manage your fonts in batch. You can quickly clean up fonts and remove errors or even update them. The application also includes Adobe Photoshop CS3 support, so you can quickly upload your custom fonts to an image you're retouching.

FontAgent's strength, the interface, is also its weakness. While it's packed with a lot of very useful features it can be a little confusing to work with, especially for new users. You'll have to give yourself a little bit of time to get used to it. A lot of users have also complained at the lack of information from developers regarding new updates. Hopefully this will change in the future though.

Pixel Image Editor, trying to make itself a place behind Adobe's star app, seems to be aimed towards more advanced users, particularly photographers. The installation process was pretty lengthy and we were really surprised at all the time it took to start up (much more than Photoshop). The first time you launch Pixel you can also easily be taken aback by all the windows and options in the interface. However a quick look around will reassure you that Pixel offers everything that you need.

We liked the collections of editing tools on hand in the left side floating bar, and found an ample collection of both layers and effects to work with. Pixel also has a handy "workspaces" feature, to avoid having your window to cluttered with objects and images. Users will be glad to also find tools to optimize images for the web.

This clever little extension recently added by Adobe makes sure that your copy of Photoshop uses your hard drive and not your live memory to support such files. This should rid you of any slowdowns when working with 3.5+ Go files.

The plugin is simple to set up, but make sure you have the latest version of Photoshop, CS3, to run it. Adobe Photoshop CS3 VM Buffering Optional Extensions won't run on other versions. If you work a lot with large files, we also suggest you check your RAM and add some more, just to make sure your Mac has enough firepower to handle them.

This application can be quite useful if you plan on printing lots of documents and need a second revision to make sure that no mistake still finds itself on your documents. FlightCheck handles a very wide variety of image types and works with the biggest publishing applications, like QuarkXPress, Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator.

We did find the interface a bit of a turnoff, and the profusion of details can make it a bit confusing at first. However the checking process is very well streamlined, from controlling to results and collecting your documents. We found FlickrShop very much streamlines the process of editing and putting your photos online. Once you've finished working on an image in Photoshop all you have to do is call up the plug-in from the menu bar.

FlickrShop saves you some time by letting you add elements like title, description and even tags for Flickr. You can add an image to a particular photoset or create a new one. We also liked how you can set the privacy level and share it only with your family for example. FlickrShop also has limited resizing pictures, which you should for particularly big photos.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended

Photoshop is the World’s leader in digital imaging software. It has been the industry standard design application for years, and with each new iteration it pulls further ahead of its competitors thanks to its huge user base and professional experience.

When digital photography was in its infancy and image editing wasn’t high on many agendas, Photoshop didn’t stand out much from the alternatives such as Paint Shop Pro. More recently, however, the Adobe team has taken the ascendancy, and since version 7, Photoshop has been all about fulfilling users’ requests and prayers for a top quality graphics package. CS3 can be regarded as version 10 and adds more to the mix for photographers, designers, and video editors.

Having nailed the interface in previous versions, CS3 keeps to the same winning formula, meaning that anyone who has used Photoshop before will immediately feel comfortable. Changes come in the form of Adobe Bridge, a replacement for the file browser, more photography filters and the star of the show, the “Vanishing Point”. This filter lets you edit, clone, and retouch images while keeping the perspective; great!

Without going in to too much detail, Photoshop is a program for professionals and as such has a steep learning curve. Anyone who is willing to devote the required time to learn the basics will definitely be rewarded with a much higher degree of control over their images and will also find it easy to tap in to all the great resources throughout the web, be it in the form of tutorials or plug-ins, that will extend the functionality further. The flexibility of the program lets you customize the interface, the brushes, the fill patterns, tool presets, filters, and practically anything else you may find within the software.

With all the power that you get, it’s testament to the Photoshop team that it runs so smoothly on any modern PC, although if you start getting heavy with layers or high resolutions, there will be a noticeable hit to your system’s resources. As you become more accustomed to the operation of the program, you will pick up more efficient habits such as the multitude of keyboard shortcuts. Each one is customizable, and there are key combos for every operation to save you from time spent trawling through menus and toolbars.

Adobe’s Photoshop CS3 is another giant leap forward for digital imaging software and it remains a long way ahead of the chasing pack. It may overwhelm beginners with the sheer quantity of tools and options, but ultimately it will reward anyone that doesn’t mind putting in the ground work to learn the basics. Highly recommended for everyone with time, money and an interest in imaging, particularly photographers and designers.

Download Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended in Softonic

More recently, however, the Adobe team has taken the ascendancy, and since version 7, Photoshop has been all about fulfilling users’ requests and prayers for a top quality graphics package. CS2 can otherwise be regarded as version 9 and adds more to the mix for photographers, designers, and video editors.

Having nailed the interface in previous versions, CS2 keeps to the same winning formula, meaning that anyone who has used Photoshop before will immediately feel comfortable.

With all the power that you get, it’s testament to the Photoshop team that it runs so smoothly on any Mac, although if you start getting heavy with layers or high resolutions, there will be a noticeable hit to your system’s resources. As you become more accustomed to the operation of the program, you will pick up more efficient habits such as the multitude of keyboard shortcuts. Each one is customizable, and there are key combos for every operation to save you from time spent trawling through menus and toolbars.

Adobe’s Photoshop CS2 is another giant leap forward for digital imaging software and it remains a long way ahead of the chasing pack. It may overwhelm beginners with the sheer quantity of tools and options, but ultimately it will reward anyone that doesn’t mind putting in the ground work to learn the basics. Highly recommended for everyone with time, money and an interest in imaging, particularly photographers and designers.

Download Adobe Photoshop 9.0 CS2 in Softonic
