During tests, MiniLyrics found the lyrics to every single track played, including English, Spanish, German, Italian and even Japanese songs. Also, in the few occasions MiniLyrics didn't find the proper lyrics, they were able to be downloaded and displayed in less than 30 seconds. The program can even save lyrics in mp3 files and let you view them on the iPod Touch or iPhone.

On the downside, MiniLyrics displays a nag window every time you launch it and another registration reminder on top of each lyrics file. That's a price most music fanatics will likely be willing to pay however.

You don't have to make up the words to songs anymore; ListDJ works as a plug-in for Spotify, opening a separate window next to the audio streaming application and displaying the lyrics to the songs you listen to.

We’ve tried ListDJ for a while and we’ve got to say that it never failed to display the lyrics – not once. The one thing that is not available for most songs yet is the karaoke option in ListDJ, where lyrics are displayed in a karaoke-style animation, phrase by phrase.

ListDJ’s Spotify integration could be improved, but the app is still at a beta stage, so let’s hope it gets better with future versions.

DestroY MediaPlay is one hell of a flexible media player - it plays video, audio files, DVDs and can even display and play music online.

Not only this, but it features a mini web browser with which you can surf the net. It terms of flexibility, this player is hard to beat. The list of formats it can play is seemingly endless including asf, asx, wav, wma, wmv, ogg, mpg, mpeg and snd amongst many many others. The DVD players is also pretty impressive featuring full support for CDDB so there's no need to label your tracks manually once they are converted to mp3 format. The players also supports some audio streaming although it's designed mainly for SHOUTcast and Icecast streams.

The interface is pretty cool for a free player although it seems like there are only 7 alternatives to the default skin. However, there is an effective Spectrum Analyzer and Oscilloscope plus it supports Drag & Dropping of tracks plus the scheduling of tracks. This can be done by track number, date and up to a set limit of daily, weekly or monthly. In addition to all this, there are hotkeys configurable and you can type in the lyrics for your own karaoke sessions. Add this to an ID3V1/V2 & OGG tag editor, DirectX sound effects and Playlist HTML export and you have a pretty impressive package.

A very comprehensive and modern looking player but it could do with some more skins and slightly more streaming support.

ICoolPlayer is more than just a music player. It also includes an audio converter, CD ripper, audio CD recorder, sound recorder, radio and even an online editor for karaoke lyrics.

It is compatible with the most popular music formats, and its futuristic interface makes it attractive and accessible. However, this sis till very much a project in the development stages and so expect to experience bugs and unexpected crashes. The iCoolPlayer's library of media and online radio channels are all organized into one easy to use and manage interface. But the most unique aspect of this media player is the ability to create lyrics for karaoke, tailoring each sentence at the exact moment of the song while you listen and then reproducing the whole thing complete with audio and lyrics in iCoolPlayer. This is a great little tool because although there are hundreds of karaoke sites out there with ready made files and lyrics, invariably your favourite songs are never included. Using this software, I was able to sing Mr Boombastic by Shaggy simply by copying and pasting the words from a lyrics site.

A great little player with excellent karaoke function let down by the fact that it often crashes because it's still being developed.

One way of enriching your musical experience is to learn the lyrics to all those songs you know and love. Thanks to Evil Lyrics, music lovers have an easy way to do just that every time they listen to MP3’s on their PC.

Evil Lyrics is a small plug-in that displays the lyrics of songs as they play as long as you’ve got an internet connection.

The window floats in a small browser style window at the side of the player but it can be minimised to the tray if you don’t want it sat there.

The window also provides additional links to Google searches, Amazon album profiles, translations, offline storage and other album or song related data.

The plug-in was designed originally for Winamp (which is what we tested it in) but it now works with Windows Media Player, Foobar2000 and Sonique.

It’s also supposed to be compatible with Media Player XP although many users have reported problems with this particular player.

But most importantly, does it recall the lyrics accurately? Well, the truth is it’s not perfect but it does surprisingly well. In tests, we found that at least 80% of the time, it displayed the correct lyrics for the song in progress.

The accuracy of this is very much down to you though. If the ID tags of your MP3’s are not entered accurately, then you’ll either end up with some very random results or simply nothing at all.

There is a ‘Search Again’ button if this happens in which case Evil Lyrics tries to find the next closest match but we found it very rarely worked accurately.

More often than not, you’ll end up with Michael Jackson rather than Jackson Browne when using this secondary option. Evil Lyrics retrieves the info from it’s ‘Ello Lyrics’ database which claims to have literally hundreds of thousands of songs.

In classic karaoke style, the lyrics appear in huge luminous letters within the window which can be expanded to fill the screen meaning you can host your own karaoke parties.
