Angry Birds Seasons collects together an awesome eight seasonal variations on the game and packs them all in. There's Angry Birds Halloween, Mooncake Festival, St. Patrick's Day, Angry Birds Christmas and more. The game divides them up into 2011 and 2012 and, obviously, as 2012 hasn't started yet, the selection there is much more limited, with only 1 season on offer.

The Angry Birds Seasons gameplay is the same as it has always been. Fire the multicolored, multi-talented birds at the fortifications created by the evil green pigs in an attempt to send them crumbling down. The more pigs and items you hit, the more points you get and the faster your progress through the game.

Angry Birds Seasons isn't much different from the standard Angry Birds, but it sure is fun. The creator of the game, Roxio, obviously put a lot of effort into planning the seasons, and everything from the items to the music is pitch perfect. If you're a fan of the original, you'll love this.

The swines in Bad Piggies are on the hunt for eggs again. This time they're on a desert island and must construct vehicles to help them negotiate the mountains, caves and other hostile terrain. It's your job to help the piggies piece together their makeshift craft to guide them through each level.

There are 60 levels in Bad Piggies, set in the same format as Angry Birds (i.e. you need to complete a level and try to get three stars in order to progress to the next). At the start of each level you're given various materials with which to construct a vehicle. These objects include crates, wheels, umbrellas, fans, and TNT.

The idea of Bad Piggies is to make the construction at the top of the hill, then release the vehicle towards the goal line. As it flies down the hill you can use the objects you attached to help manipulate the craft and guide the pigs to the stars and ultimately to the goal.

Bad Piggies is a completely different challenge to Angry Birds. The hit-and-miss approach of the catapults has gone and instead Bad Piggies requires more mechanical thinking. This in turn makes the game less appealing for some. You can no longer just turn on the game and start wildly flinging your fingers around.

Bad Piggies is more of a labored process of working out what materials you have and how to join them together to deal with the obstacles facing you and collect all the stars. Some would argue that the satisfaction you get out of Bad Piggies doesn't warrant all this brain energy.

Graphically, Bad Piggies is bright and colorful and in keeping with the Angry Birds style. There are fun cut scenes featuring the hapless piggies, and the music is chirpy and catchy.

Bad Piggies is a challenging physics-based puzzle game, though it's often complex tasks may put some people off.

Fresh gameplay

In Angry Birds Space, you'll be attacking structures on planets from space, using their gravity to get the perfect trajectory. This Angry birds requires more thought than previous games, and feels much fresher for that.

It's a second trip into Space for the annoyed avians, following on the heals of Angry Birds Space. Angry Birds Star Wars retains some of the Space physics of the previous release, and there are new special abilities, including the use of the force, and light saber-wielding.

Presentation

Fans of the original movie, A New Hope, will adore Angry Birds Star Wars. It follows the plot of the film, taking you to all the iconic locations, including Tatooine, Hoth, and the Pig Star (modeled on the Death Star). The Angry Birds are themed around the heroes such as Luke Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi and Han Solo, while the piggies dress up as stormtroopers, tuskan raiders and the like.

The locations and characters are gloriously recreated, and this, coupled with music from the original score, makes Angry Birds Star Wars the best presented version of the game series so far.

Gameplay

The basic gameplay in Angry Birds Star Wars is still the same as the original Angry Birds. You launch birds from a catapult at a structure in order to smash it and destroy the bad guys. Stars are earned based on how easily you achieve this, and progress to the next level.

There are some 80 levels in Angry Birds Star Wars and getting through them will take you a long time, even though the first few levels on Tatooine are very easy. There are some fun bonus levels too, in which you can play as C3PO or R2D2.

The gameplay in Angry Birds Star Wars has been tweaked a bit from previous versions of the game. You can now use the force to slow down your bird in mid flight, or swipe your light saber to break objects, for example.

Verdict

Despite these interesting additional gameplay elements, there's no disguising that Angry Birds Star Wars plays very much the same as previous versions. While fans of the Angry Birds franchise will enjoy this, others will find the game repetitive, frustrating and tiresome.

There's no doubt that Angry Birds Star Wars is a lavishly-produced arcade game, which fans of both the game and the movie will fall in love with.

Play as Newton!, a lovable hamster running in a hamster ball. The game is nonsensical but remains fun. The goal of the game is to keep your momentum through the level by knocking down objects in your path. If you don't, you'll be knocked back and will lose heath. When you knock down an item, you gain 'atoms' as rewards.

Each level in Newton! gives the player a high score as well as a star rating, much like Angry Birds. While the gameplay is fun, it is a bit repetitive and you'll find yourself tapping furiously to collect all the atoms in the game. Time a jump incorrectly and you'll be running face first into an object, losing health.

The atoms that you collect don't go to waste as you can use them to purchase upgrades in the game. The introduction of this element makes Newton! consistently fun as players will have an objective and goal to chase.

The web version of Angry Birds is almost the same as this Pokki desktop app version. The goal is to destroy the green pigs who've stolen your eggs by smashing the structures they're hiding within or on top of. You do this by firing multi-colored birds strategically towards the pigs.
