A title such as The Attack of Mutant Fruits from Outer Space should already give you an approximate idea of what this is all about. The game is a simple remake of the classic Space Invaders, only that this time spaceships and rockets have been replaced with fruits and vegetables of all kinds.

Your mission, should you accept it, consists on wiping out waves of these creatures before they reach the bottom part of your screen.

I know, I know, it sounds easy, but the sometimes maddening speed that the fruits reach makes it a bit frustrating. For those who are quick enough, The Attack of Mutant Fruits from Outer Space includes 10 levels ready for you to complete and enjoy.

It's slightly more advanced than Pong but not much! Basically, you have a paddle and a bouncing ball that require you to destroy a bunch of bricks. However, the twist is that inside the bricks are what are called "nairns". Nairns are basically little critters that are there to make your life hell. They throw things at your paddle and basically attempt to stop you from cracking open any of the remaining bricks. Your aim is to strike the nairns with your ball and knock them out of action. However, the fun doesn't stop there - you can bounce the little critters off your padel to destroy even more bricks so it's quite satisfying in a sadistic way. Using their bodies, you can clear a screen much faster although it's quite an ordeal trying to keep a ball and several critters flying up in the air for several minutes at a time. This demo version is only limited to a few levels and you are prompted to buy the game when you close it down. Whether you decide to buy or not depends on whether you can see much worth in bouncing critters against bricks for long. Personally, I got bored after a few minutes although if you've had a bad day at the office, it's a good way to get some agression out. Oh, and don't expect wonders in the graphics or sound deapartment - this is proudly an old skool style game.

An interesting take on the Pong genre although they needed to make it a bit more interesting to hold my attention.

Download Jardinains 2 in Softonic

Joking aside, Nannoid is a decent Arkanoid clone with more than twenty different levels that challenges you to break all the bricks in the wall without letting the ball fall off the paddle. Luckily you're not alone in this mission: you can count on several extras and bonuses that help you successfully complete your tasks. You'll get also extra points for exploding all those "weird floaty things" (as defined by the author) on each level.

Summing up, Nannoid is a simple, fun game that's perfect for a short, relaxing break from home. The only drawback is sound effects, which could be greatly improved.

The scene is the edge of the galaxy where deep within an ancient culture you'll find an ancient artifact known as Star Ball.

Your quest is to find this artifact but it's protected by a rock solid wall of bricks. However, the Star Ball contains ancient knowledge that mankind has forgotten and needs to remember if it is to save itself. During your mission, you pilot a spaceship equipped with gravity shields and weaponry on your way to rescuing the Star Ball. Along the way, you'll find many many power-ups, such as laser guns, missiles, plasma balls, fire balls and much more. The powerups are probably the most entertaining past or the game in fact - there's so many to choose from and watching them go off is a real buzz. The music is also pretty cool although it gets a bit repetitive after a while. The other problem is that the numerous powerups end up making the game too easy - if you collect enough, you can complete the game pretty quickly by steaming through the bricks.

Nice gameplay and soundtrack but this game could do with less powerups and more challenges than just a few bricks.

Download Star Ball 1.0 in Softonic

This remake, however, does include some new features that make it slightly different.

The first thing you'll notice is that the wall is no longer on top of the screen, but on the left side. This change makes the game a bit more challenging. Arkanoid: Space Ball also stands out for the huge amount of bonuses that drop off the bricks you break. Sometimes there are so many falling down on you that you can hardly see the ball. Also, not all of them are really that "positive", like the one that slows the ball down or another one that freezes the pad, so you better be careful!

The game's graphics and music are standard, and the overall impression is that Arkanoid: Space Ball is a perfect casual time waster, but nothing else.

While most games in this genre are vertically oriented, Krakout makes you break block formations horizontally. Other than that, gameplay is pretty much standard, with the usual assortment of power-ups such as magnetized paddles and rocket launchers. The gameplay and design are top notch.

And best of all KRAKOUT adds a bit of new flavour to Arkanoid game. You've got new weapons at your disposal. You've got monsters to shoot at to receive bonus points. With several different levels and obstacles to overcome, the challenge is to take on meteorites, enemy spacecraft and other nasties to proceed through the levels. Numerous bonuses are revealed by the broken wreckage you leave behind including a laser, a rocket launcher, force fields and many other powerups.

The game is very much a rip-off of the classic Space Invaders game although it adds its own twists in terms of levels of difficulty, sound effects and graphics. According to the developers, whether you are a teenager, student, parent or grandparent, you will instantly fall in love with this exciting game. With the aid of the spherical balls, your aim is to eliminate all contamination in a highly dangerous nuclear power station. Your aim to block the defective tubes by using a bizarre combination of explosive balls and multiple spheres at the same time.

The controls are very simple - all that's needed is to move the mouse from side to side as you bounce your ball to the rescue. The game is set in a chunky 3D playing environment so the game has very substantial realistic feel to it. In addition, the visual effects are quite spectacular, especially the nuclear explosions.

Each level consists of various brick types, many of which can’t be destroyed directly. Thus you need to send the ball to certain parts of the construction so that they can trigger an explosion. You can collect power up by taking on the bonus pieces and balls placed along the way. T

I must admit I didn't expect much from this game, but it has really surprised me with great graphics and pleasant background music and sound effects.

Gameplay is full of unexpected elements: special bonus, combos, tricks and many other hidden secrets you'll find for yourself as you progress through the game. There's even a level editor, so when you're finished with the ones that are included in the game you can create your own screens.

One thing I especially liked about PureBreaker is that you can jump directly to the last level you completed from the main menu. On the downside, game levels can get sometimes too difficult to complete, but I guess this is just a matter of practice!

Simple pastimes like Tetris, PacMan, Sudoku or Breakout are always welcome when all you need is some casual entertainment.

Wininizio Games includes all of these plus many other classic videogames, all carefully organized into categories and ready to be taken with you anywhere in your USB portable memory device. I must admit the quality of featured games varies a lot and there are some of them that can't almost be played, but in general they offer a quick, easy way to have fun before going back to work or while commuting with your laptop.

The Wininizio game suite includes several game genres (puzzles, strategy, board games, card games, etc.) but some of the categories include only one game. Also, the installation is in Italian but it's quite intuitive (you know, "Avanti" until you're "Fine").

Download WinInizio Pensuite Games 2.1 in Softonic

I don't think I ever learned the real rules though and would instead use them to plug orifices, throw at people or set up boobie traps. So, Mystic Marbles gave me a chance to enjoy the game in a safer way, and I was suprisingly pleased with the grown-up version. This is not an exact replication of the game (that would be boring) but rather some kind of Bubble Bobble/Arkanoid hybrid set within a mystical environment.

The original gameplay works very well and Mythic Marbles is great fun. The controls are simple and see you bounce off walls and smash bricks to proceed through the levels. Each puzzle is different enough to prevent the game from becoming dull and the graphics are pretty good too. I found that the sound got a bit annoying after a while, but overall it beats getting a little ball stuck up your nose.

Download Mythic Marbles in Softonic

Like all versions of Arkanoid the gameplay is very simple and it's a case of just blasting blocks by bouncing a ball off a paddle. Because ScaraBall is all set in 3D, however, the task is much more challenging than usual as you need to destroy blocks that are on top of each other.

The graphics within the game are excellent with all the backdrops and blocks being inspired by ancient Egypt. The three dimensional element to the game really works and the quality of the textures of the different blocks are impressive.

Download ScaraBall in Softonic

Original solutions give a new twist to the classic "ball-and-bricks" concept. A number of unique elements that never before appeared in such games give Ball Attack absolutely fresh look and feel.

The Ball Attack concept can be described as follows: make your way through the brick arrays and have fun! In this game you always have objects to destroy and weapons to destroy them with. Impressive destruction of several hundred bricks within a couple of minutes is quite common here.

Download Ball Attack 1.17 in Softonic
