ALLBenchmark is a computer benchmarking tool that tests your computer's ability to play games.

The program tests graphics capabilities by running a variety of different tests like stressing the processor and performing physics computation. ALLBenchmark mainly tests the decated graphics card in a computer, but can also test integrated graphics.

ALLBenchmark has four standard tests for different levels of hardware. By default, you only have access to the "Kitty" and "Cat" tests. These tests are meant for lower powered machines because it only requires 256 MB of GPU memory.

Once you start the test, you see the framerate of the video at the top of the screen. This video is called Catzilla. The first test is a rendered battle between a schoolgirl and Catzilla. It is very over-the-top and makes you want to get better hardware so you can watch it at a decent framerate.

After ALLBenchmark finishes the test, it gives you scores from the tests and can offer recommendations to improve your score. The paid version of ALLBenchmark unlocks the different test tiers like "Tiger" and "Catzilla" for more strenuous tests.

ALLBenchmark is a decent free benchmarking program, but only offers basic levels of testing for the free version.

Download ALLBenchmark 1.0 Beta17 in Softonic

Ace of Spades combines <taglink type="program" country="en" id="189271">Minecraft</taglink>-style gameplay with team death-match online multiplayer competition. Join or create a server, choose the green or red team and get fighting!

Work in progress

Still under development, Ace of Spades really does look a lot like Minecraft, with its pixellated blocky style. But the team combat gives it a very different feel. Building and digging in Ace of Spades is more about making walls and trenches for the battle. The newbie guide even warns you not to be too creative, as your 'buildings will be destroyed'!

Gameplay

There are three guns: a rifle, machine gun and shot gun. You area also equipped with grenades and a spade for digging. You can talk to your team mates in secret to coordinate tactics. Despite the simplistic shooting and graphics, the gameplay is really satisfying. Digging and building adds an interesting dynamic to the game, and some of the servers have really well-designed levels to battle over.

Getting started

Ace of Spades does have its problems. Changing your player name is awkward, and battles can seemingly go on without end. However, these issues will no doubt be ironed out as the game develops. Where Ace of Spades isn't very user friendly, there is at least an extensive Wiki where you can find answers, as well as the newbie guide.

Ace of Spades is a fun release in what is becoming 'the Minecraft genre'. It's free to play, so get involved!

Download Ace of Spades 0.75 Beta in Softonic

Resident Evil 5 Benchmark

While many may wonder whether the zombie killing crown now belongs to Left for Dead, it would be foolish to discount Capcom and their venerable much loved genre defining series.

This benchmarking tool is basically a non-playable demo, that allows you to check if your system will be able to run the game or not. After the demo runs, you are given a verdict, after which you can alter some parameters such as resolution, graphics levels, motion blur and so on if your system failed the test!

While the console games were released earlier this year, the PC version features more content and support for the NVIDIA GeForce 3D Vision Tech. If you're computer's powerful enough, and your screen good enough, you'll be able to experience zombies in 3D if you buy the special glasses.

At over half a gigabyte, this tool is huge for a non playable demo, but it'll save you time later, or inform you that you need save up to upgrade if you want to have a go at 3D gaming.

Download Resident Evil 5 Benchmark in Softonic

Time Gentlemen, Please!

Time Gentlemen, Please! is the sequel to the off the wall and definitely adult adventure Ben There, Dan That! Once more, you are invited into the humorous and illogical world of Ben and his sidekick Dan.

Like its predecessor, Time Gentlemen, Please! is a point and click adventure, with crazy story that needs your puzzle solving abilities to move forwards. There is nothing revolutionary about the mechanics, but the great sense of humor, and the sense that the story might literally fly off in any direction makes it a really enjoyable experience.

Ben and Dan's characters joke about everything, and it's not suitable for young gamers at all! As long as you're not easily offended, this quirky game is a great example of what big studio efforts can't do. You will only find such odd ball stuff in a small game like this.

The visuals are similar to the previous game, but there are some much smoother effects this time. The sound isn't brilliant, and all of the speech is text on the screen. The puzzles sometimes seem a bit unfair, but the dialogue is funny enough to keep you looking for solutions.

Time Gentlemen, Please! is a great adventure, with a unique sense of humor. A must for fans of the genre.

Download Time Gentlemen, Please! in Softonic

Ben there, Dan that!

Recently, point-and-click adventures have had a little bit of a renaissance, noticeably with Telltale Games' renewal of the Sam & Max series. Ben There, Dan That! is an indie adventure very much in the Sam and Max mold. It's simple to play, and driven by it's sense of humor.

The cartoon style of Ben There, Dan That! is not beautiful, but does the job, and has some nice animations in it along the way.The sound is pretty poor, so if it's a visually and aurally stunning game you want, this won't work for you. What it does have is lots of good puzzles to solve and an enormously well written script.

The humor is undeniably British, which may not be to everyone's tastes. There are also some jokes based around the point-and-click genre, which non-experienced gamers might not enjoy so much. However, for anyone who has been playing video games for a few years, Ben There, Dan That! offers a memorable and amusing journey.

The controls are really simple, with a series of commands like walk, pick up, talk and look, all available through right-clicking, and executed with left clicks. The solutions are not spoon fed, but all of the puzzles should be manageable for all players. Bear in mind that the humor is fairly adult.

It may not have hight production values, but Ben There, Dan That! is a charming and entertaining point and click adventure</b

Download Ben there, Dan that! in Softonic

Ben Ruyl Sokoban is a resissue of the classic Japanese game Sokoban with more than 500 levels. The object of the game is to place all of the boxes in their correct position in a crowded warehouse with a minimal number of pushes and moves.

The boxes can only be pushed, never pulled, and only one can be pushed at a time. It sounds easy, but the levels range from very easy to extremely difficult, some taking hours and even days to figure out. It is the simplicity and elegance of the rules have made Sokoban one of the most popular logic games in Japan and you'll soon see why.

Beneath a Steel Sky

Enter the world of Robert Foster, a dark, grimy city with rampant corruption from where he must escape. Having seemingly lost his parents as a child when they tried to escape from the city with him in a helicopter that crashed, he is found and taken prisoner by the city authorities. As fate would have it, the chopper in which he has been taken prisoner also goes down and so begins the adventure.

With definite Orwellian influences and reminders of the classic Blade Runner, Foster must voyage to the ground floor of the skyscraper he finds himself on, avoiding the unmerciful guards, making friends, and solving puzzles on the way. Death lurks around every corner in this point-and-click adventure, so a cool head and plenty of saving is advised. Although point-and-clicks were very popular around the time Beneath a Steel Sky was released (1994), this one stood out from the pack with its extremely well-balanced mix of problem solving, exploration, and dialog.

The controls are about as intuitive as you can get, with need only for the mouse. You examine objects with the left button, and interact with the right, and as you progress through the narrative you will pick up objects and information with which to solve any pending puzzles. At times retracing your steps is essential and can become a source for frustration if you aren’t entirely sure of what is expected of you next. This is offset by the sheer satisfaction of completing each task and delving further in to the plot of the story.

In terms of graphics, Beneath a Steel Sky fares pretty well against titles from the same period, and with original hand-drawn scenery, it has stood up well to the test of time. Anyone who has played the game will know what we mean when we say prepare for some corny jokes, the kind that leave you groaning in agony. What’s more, originality jumps off the scale at some points, such as when you plug your-self in to a virtual world and try to solve some trippy abstract puzzles!

Without doubt, this game has influenced many others that have followed through the years, and now that it’s available for free, can serve you many hours of quality game play and represents one of the key players in gaming history.

Download Beneath a Steel Sky in Softonic
