BitTorrent Surf 0.749

BitTorrent Surf is a simple, easy to use add-on for Chrome that allows you to search and download torrents.

While there are more advanced and powerful torrent clients like uTorrent, BitTorrent Surf's brilliance is in its simplicity. Once you have the extension installed, you can immediately start searching for torrents. Can't find what you're looking for? You can add your own custom searches for BitTorrent Surf to query.

Once you've found something you want to download, just click the check mark and your download will begin immediately. You can set the share ratio for each program but that's it in terms of advanced features. There's no capping download and upload speeds. There's also no options to modify where your downloads go and what to do with the files after downloads have completed.

The interface of BitTorrent Surf is good on the whole but users will be greeted with random banner ads at the bottom. They're not that intrusive and shouldn't bother most users.

Overall, BitTorrent Surf is a simple to use BitTorrent client but power users will need to look elsewhere.

Download BitTorrent Surf 0.749 in Softonic

uTorrent is one of the most popular BitTorrent clients out there for several reasons: it's fast, lightweight, easy to use and very efficient.

The new uTorrent 3 introduces lots of changes to the previous version. To begin with, the program sports a totally redesigned interface: more usable, easier to use and a perfect match for uTorrent’s web interface. Besides the new design, uTorrent 3 lets you play media in streaming as you download, rate and comment torrent files, drag and drop files to share them, and disable the UDP tracker.

After a quick installation process (although there are quite a few prompts to install browser add-ons etc) and a handy built-in speed test to make the initial setting much easier, uTorrent is ready.
SoMud 1.3.8

SoMud is a free cross-platform multi-language P2P client that's not exactly slick, but does return an impressive amount of results.

SoMud allows you to search, download and even play web videos within its interface thanks to its own embedded media player. You can preview media files while they are being downloaded which is handy for avoiding fake or spam files. The download speeds are also impressive although it's obviously dependent on your connection and the number of peers connected.

SoMud is also unusual in that it also allows users to record their desktop or screen activity and share it with other peers. This includes audio and webcam images. In addition, there's a P2P wizard that allows you to create your own torrents and there's also parental control to filter specified keywords and lock specified content.

SoMud doesn't have the simple, slick interface that uTorrent has for example. It's also rather annoying that when you install it, it automatically opens the developer homepage in your browser. Finally, downloads are generally reliable but can take some time to start.

SoMud is a very interesting P2P client with some unusual features and may appeal to those who want a bit more control over their P2P downloading than most other clients allow.

Download SoMud 1.3.8 in Softonic

WakeupOnStandBy 1.7.16

Have you ever wanted your computer to do something while you were away, but not wanted to leave it switched on all day? WakeupOnStandBy is a powerful tool that allows you to set a time for your computer to wake up, execute programs or files, and go back to sleep.

WakeupOnStandBy does not need installation, simply run it, set your time and tasks, and put your computer in standby or hibernation mode. Your machine will be woken up at the specified time, and do whatever it was set to do. For example, you could set it to open a bit torrent client to resume downloads. If your system has a number of user logins, give WakeupOnStandBy your password, and it will be able to wake up that particular login.

There is also the option to have this task repeated, which is great so you don't need to reprogram it for everyday tasks. For example, I set it to wake up before I start work and open iTunes, and that way my podcasts are all downloaded and ready to go when I arrive.

WakeupOnStandBy could be a little more user friendly, but it's easy enough to figure out. Also, at the moment you can only specify two tasks, and it seems strange to limit them, although it's still a really useful tool.

WakeupOnStandBy is a great little application that does it's job perfectly.

Download WakeupOnStandBy 1.7.16 in Softonic
