The Dark Knight Rises, is above all, an action game. That said, it asks more of players - moving through the environments, jumping from building to building, fighting your enemies, looking for clues, and manning the Batmobile and Batwing.

The game includes more than 20 missions, as well as link events like rescuing hostages, chases, prison breaks, etc. Your ultimate aim is to tumble Bane, Gotham's archenemy.

Too much assistance!

Despite the fact that The Dark Knight Rises takes place in a huge 3D world and you've got ample movements at your fingertips, the gameplay is too linear and too limited.

Even though you seem to have a huge degree of freedom, The Dark Knight Rises basically reduces you to moving to a point indicated on the map and pressing the buttons that are available to you at the time.

Impressive graphics

The technical aspects to The Dark Knight Rises deserve special mention. The graphics, effects and atmosphere are incredible, and not just when talking about Batman. The whole appearance of the game is amazing.

It's hard to believe that The Dark Knight Rises is "just" a mobile game. Even the voices, dialog and sound effects are perfect.

Looks great, plays...ok

It's a true pity that such an impressive-looking game doesn't offer playability that matches the same standards. The Dark Knight Rises is an absolute gem at a technical level, with graphics that we'll bet you've never seen on a mobile game. For that reason alone, it's worth playing, even if you just have a quick go of the trial version.

Players control Steakfries as he reclaims the machine gun jetpack seen in Monster Dash and attempts to go the distance again. Jetpack Joyride is a distance arcade game, keeping track of how far players get while avoiding hazards and collecting coins.

Jetpack Joyride uses the same style as previous Barry Steakfries games with the cartoon and slightly 8-bit visual style. The game has a specific graphic look that is immediately recognizable for a Halfbrick Studios game. Audio in Jetpack Joyride is also great with a soundtrack that matches the quick gameplay.

The one-touch gameplay is simple. The longer players hold their finger, the higher Steakfries will hover in the side-scrolling level. Jetpack Joyride features electronic gates, missiles, and lasers that all try to stop the player from accumulating more distance.

Jetpack Joyride features an upgrade system where players can purchase new jetpacks, character skins, and power-ups that can be used in-game.

Another excellent addition are the tokens that are collected in Jetpack Joyride. Used in a slot machine, players will randomly be rewarded different power-ups like extra coins, revival power-ups, or bombs that will extend Steakfries’ distance after the player has died in a level.

While coins are collected in-game, Jetpack Joyride also features in-app purchases. Player can purchase coins to buy items and even purchase completed missions. It is a different progression style than seen before.

Jetpack Joyride is much more than a simple distance arcade game. Players will level while playing. Completing the various challenges give coin bonuses as they level up. The challenges are varied and challenging, increasing the replayability of Jetpack Joyride.

Jetpack Joyride is the perfect distance arcade game. The game offers much more than just trying to get the farthest distance in one session. The challenges are extremely fun and difficult while the upgrade store contains some of the best purchasable content of any game.

The core of Plants vs. Zombies is to use plants to defend your house from oncoming hordes of zombies. The fun of Plants vs. Zombies comes from the variety of different offensive and defensive plant types and the immense variety of zombies that all attack the house.

Plants vs. Zombies’ graphics style is recognizable PopCap style. Cartoon influenced visuals bring a family-friendly look to the game. Each character is carefully designed to maximize the core of the game. Plants are easily recognized by their individual traits like sunflowers producing sunlight and zombie-eating plants featuring wide mouths and sharp teeth.

Even the zombies have their own style. Normal zombies just have plain clothes, but later levels feature zombies with pole vaults, screen doors, and buckets on their heads. Each additional detail to the zombies adds an effect like the ability to take more damage or only be affected by one type of flower attack.

Adventure mode in Plants vs. Zombies is long and provides hours to experience, and the quick play mode is opened once Adventure mode is complete.

The strategic elements of Plants vs. Zombies are slim in the beginning of the game, but in later levels there is a consistent tight balance between planting more defensive flowers or attacking larger zombies with offensive landmine potatoes.

Plants vs. Zombies is one of the greatest strategy games available and provides hours of enjoyment.

The game sets players into the role of John Slade, bounty hunter, who is after Dr. Edgar Simon, who is a crazy genius and leader of his own army. While the plot of the game creates the setting and overall theme of the game, Shadowgun focuses on action. Players will be moving from cover to cover, peeking out long enough to annihilate everything in Slade's way.

With a claim of six hours of gameplay, Shadowgun could have a lot to offer players. Mixing the cover system with a variety of weapons creates an addictive experience that can also be slightly frustrating.

Shadowgun’s main emphasis on action is tempered with the impressive visuals. Using the Unity Engine, character and environment models are detailed. Add the lighting effects into Shadowgun and the game is one of the best looking mobile games.

Controls in Shadowgun use an on-screen movement pad and separate fire/reload/weapon switch buttons. While it feels strange at first, the close proximity of the buttons becomes second nature quickly. It is a little difficult to precisely aim in Shadowgun, but the game is forgiving enough not to kill players from the start.

Shadowgun is still one of the best shooters for mobile devices and plays well on phones and tablets. Prepare for battery drains with all the action happening on screen, though.

Your mission in this raucous BlackBerry 10 game is to destroy all the green pigs by catapulting birds at them. This wouldn't be too difficult, except for the fact the hogs are holed up inside fortified castles which you need to smash into in order to enter. As the levels progress, these fortresses become ever more hard to break down, so Angry Birds requires a bit of lateral thinking as well as a steady aim.

To fire a bird you simply pull back on the catapult, adjust the trajectory, then release your finger. You can shoot four birds per turn, and if you don't destroy every pig then you'll have to start the level again. There are dozens of levels, so it'll be a long time before you get bored of Angry Birds.

As well as being great fun to play, Angry Birds looks the part too. Graphics are colorful and fun, and the bird noises and sound effects are hilarious. One of the few criticisms we have of Angry Birds is that it's very repetitive. It would be nice if there were an option to customize levels or characters, for example.

The BlackBerry version of FIFA 13 is far less developed than the iOS version of FIFA. It has a distinctly retro feel to it, and feels more like playing the early FIFA games that came out on 16-bit consoles - though obviously with the disadvantage of being on a small screen with no control pad!

FIFA 13 is a pretty complete game, allowing you to compete in many leagues from around the world. There are more than 250 club and national teams, and all are officially licensed, so the player names and characterizations are real. There are several game modes, including multiple championships (Serie A, Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, etc.), as well as the 'Be a Pro' mode, in which you take control of a one footballer.

There are plenty of tactical options in FIFA 13 for BlackBerry, from the ability to pick your team, right down to who should take free kicks and corners during a match.

The biggest problems with FIFA 13 on BlackBerry are the graphics and controls. The 2D graphics are uninspiring and there's little detail to distinguish one player from another.

Artificial intelligence is weak, meaning that gameplay can get boring and predictable. The control system is very fiddly, and more primitive than other versions of FIFA 13, giving you the feeling that your options on the pitch seem very limited.

There aren't many good soccer games for BlackBerry. FIFA 13 is certainly one of the most comprehensive but playing matches is quite a dull affair.

Set in an urban location, as soon as you start Running Ninja, the little guy will start running, getting faster and faster all the time. You need to press the keys to jump between buildings and to avoid objects, such as boxes and ninja stars.

The further you get into the action in Running Ninja, the faster and more frenetic things get, and you'll need to time your jumps perfectly in order to keep going. If you bump into something or fall down a gap the game finishes and the distance you ran is displayed on screen. The idea of Running Ninja is that you're constantly striving to break your record distance.

The cartoon graphics in Running Ninja are good fun, though the looped in-game rock music soundtrack gets annoying very quickly.

Faithful to the original

As with the original Sonic Advance game, you play the part of Sonic the Hedgehog, a blue critter with lightning fast pace. You need to run, roll, jump and avoid the obstacles in order to progress through each of the long levels. There are eight levels in Sonic Advance, divided among four worlds: Neo Green Hill, Secret Base, Angel Island and Paradise Casino.

The graphics in this version of Sonic Advance are exceptional and the BlackBerry recaptures the look, as well as the feel, of the original. The soundtrack is just like the original too, meaning that fans of the game will feel right at home.

Problems with Sonic Advance for phones

The porting of Sonic Advance to mobile phone format does have some disadvantages, however. Depending on your device, the controls can be quite fiddly. There's a lot of fast switching between the run and jump buttons needed, and this is problematic if your keypad or directional buttons are too close together, as they are on the Nokia N85 we tested with.

Overall though, Sonic Advance is a faithful and highly enjoyable recreation of one of the great Game Boy Advance games.

There are a handful of free puzzles included in Jigsaw for you to try and complete. For each different picture there are six difficulty levels to choose from, ranging from nine pieces to 100. The selection of the built-in jigsaws isn't great and the images are quite uninspiring.

Luckily, Jigsaw has a feature that allows you to create your own puzzles using the pictures from your phone's image gallery. This means the possibilities are endless in terms of the designs you can use. You can even take a photo of yourself and use it as a puzzle in Jigsaw, in much the same way as VideoPuzzle! for iPhone.

Jigsaw features a stats section, where you can see how you've fared in each of the puzzles in terms of the time they took to complete.

If you want a fun way to pass a few minutes, Jigsaw is worth downloading, especially because you can use it to make your own puzzles from your photos.

The game offers a sample of the full game which has different game modes and officially licensed teams. Including over 250 teams and game modes like exhibition, tournaments, and league matches, it is possible to experience the career of a player or just play a quick match.

The controls use a virtual pad, giving you control over your players. You can also configure your teams before heading to the field which is required against the AI of FIFA 12. Even though the game does not use the same high quality graphics that other devices use, FIFA 12 offers a realistic soccer experience.

There are some issues with FIFA 12, like the controls do not have perfect control and the AI is a little rough, but it is the best representation of soccer on Blackberry.

Mirroring the movie, The Amazing Spider-Man is an interactive way to experience what Spider-Man goes through. The game adds extra villains, like Sandman and Venom, as well as includes the Lizard.

As a side-scrolling game, you move through levels in a classic action adventure game, beating up enemies until you reach a boss at the end of the level. You are also able to use Spider-Man’s powers, like climbing and traveling between buildings.

The graphics are good and allow you to move in a 3D space even though it is a linear experience. The variety of enemies in The Amazing Spider-Man changes how you have to attack to win. It can get repetitive having to simply beat everyone up however.

The Amazing Spider-Man is a good movie game, but does not offer a lot of replayability.

Angry Pigs follows the same format as Rovio's mobile gaming sensation, Angry Birds - only this time it's the pigs' turn to fly. Your aim is to catapult the swines at the structures on the right of the screen in order to destroy the big bad wolves who have caged themselves inside.

The controls and gameplay in Angry Pigs are almost exactly the same as in Angry Birds, from the different characteristics of the flying pigs, to the zooming and scaling. In fact, we wonder if this copy of Rovio's classic might not last long in the App World, for legal reasons.

The graphics and sounds in Angry Pigs are cutesy and colorful, though the pay-off is that the game is heavy on system resources. Angry Pigs for BlackBerry has more than 150 levels, so it will keep you occupied for a long time.

If you've enjoyed playing Angry Birds before on other systems, you'll love Angry Pigs, which offers a very similar gaming experience on your BlackBerry.

In Bomberman vs Zombies you play the role of a soldier who must wipe out all the zombies on a level by strategic planting of bombs. Once all the zombies have been exploded, a trapdoor opens and you're able to exit through it to the next level.

As you progress through the levels, Bomberman vs Zombies becomes increasingly tough, as the zombies start to get more cunning and start laying traps to try to stop you. There are power-ups and extra lives to collect though, which can aid your progress through the game.

The graphics in Bomberman vs Zombies are cute and colorful. The sound effects are fun too, although there are too few of them, and there's no music in the game.

The controls are quite fiddly and the gameplay gets a bit repetitive, but if you're a fan of the original Bomberman games, then Bomberman vs Zombies is worth downloading.

Favoring a less graphically intensive visual presentation, The Sims 3 still contains the addictive and memorable gameplay. You create your Sim – their appearance and personality – and then take them out into the world.

The Sims 3 is all about relationships and that is the center of the experience. Making friends and expanding your social circle, The Sims 3 allows you to experience the game in a mobile form.

Since the game centers on the life of your Sim, do not be surprised to lose a lot of time monitoring their status and pushing them around in the virtual life you create. The gameplay is recognizable to anyone who has played The Sims before, but new players may be overwhelmed with the amount of options.

The Sims 3 continues to be a hugely addictive game.

There's nothing new in terms of the gameplay of Bubble Bash 2. It's along the same lines as countless other bubble-bursting BlackBerry titles, including Bubble Birds, Bubble Popper, and Bubble Fusion. The basic premise, as with these other games, is that you need to bash together three or more same-colored balls to make them all explode.

Bubble Bash 2 manages to inject a bit of life into this tired game format. It has a story mode, where you travel across various parts of Africa, completing each level to progress. Levels are varied in terms of the bubble puzzles presented to you, and there's a plot that unfolds as you progress.

The cartoon-style graphics in Bubble Bash 2 are bright and colorful, and the music and sound effects are good too. The loading screens between each level in Bubble Bash 2 are great, presenting you with a different facts about Africa and its wildlife while you wait for the next level to show up.

Although there are lots of levels to get through and achievements to unlock, we found Bubble Bash 2 to be a bit easy. It's generally possible to complete a level in story mode first time, so there's not much challenge involved. There is a survival mode though, where you're challenged to keep bubble bashing for as long as you can stay in the game.

Some users have commented on Bubble Bash 2's App World page that the game runs slowly on older devices and can drain battery quickly if not closed down properly. We experienced no problems running Bubble Bash 2 on a 9930, but just beware of these possible issues if you have an older device.

Bubble Bash 2 is a fun reworking of a classic puzzle game format, which makes for a fun way to pass a short journey.
