Then try moTweets, which proves to be one of the most effective apps of its kind on the WM platform.

moTweets is designed to give you fast access to Twitter while you're on the move. It allows you to check tweets from people you are following, view mentions, search Twitter, look at trends, access your Favorites, and much more. All of these functions are available from a sexy, touch-friendly drop-down menu on the left of the user interface.

Of course, moTweets also lets you post tweets from your mobile. And how wonderfully comfy this experience is. The large shortcut buttons allow you to quickly insert pictures into your tweets from your PDA's memory, or directly from the camera. There are also buttons for adding links, inserting your geolocation based on your GPS data, and for adding URLs.

The only thing to fault really in this version of moTweets is the fact that it's strewn with annoying banner ads. That said, if you upgrade to the full version these will disappear.

Overall, moTweets is one of the best Twitter clients you'll find for Windows Mobile.

Download moTweets 1.9.2 in Softonic

Bambuser 1.1.3.1

If you want to become a TV star don't bother going on Big Brother, just install Bambuser on your phone and broadcast yourself live on the internet!

Bambuser is similar to the excellent Qik, in that it allows you to capture video of yourself using your PDA's camera then stream it to a channel online. It’s very easy to start using the program. You just need to sign up for a free Bambuser account then activate the camera, either in outward or inward mode.

As soon as you start recording, Bambuser shows you the address where the video is being streamed to. You can then share this with your friends via Twitter or Facebook and anyone can come to the page and see and hear what you’re doing live. Actually there’s a delay of a couple of seconds, but this time gap is much less than it is in Qik.

While broadcasting there are a raft of options available to the viewer. They can see your location on Google Maps, share the video with their friends, or chat with all the other viewers in the built-in chatroom. After you’ve finished recording, all of the footage is saved on the Bambuser site, so it can be watched again by anyone who missed the live broadcast.

There are a few different settings you can play around with. You can tinker with the audio and video quality, set a title for your video, and toggle visibility between public and private.

It’s worth bearing in mind that Bambuser is a heavy consumer of both power and data. So I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone who hasn’t got a flat rate internet plan (unless you’re using WiFi) or who doesn’t want their battery drained quickly.

Overall though, Bambuser offers a quick and easy way to broadcast yourself live over the internet.

Download Bambuser 1.1.3.1 in Softonic

Global Navigator 5.8

Looking for a satellite navigation app for your Pocket PC? Global Navigator is an easy-to-use GPS navigation app that can help you quickly find your way from A to B.

Global Navigator lets you browse maps and satellite images of the whole World. You can find places by zooming in on the world map, or by using the app's powerful search tool. Global Navigator offers several ways to look at maps, including map, satellite, terrain, and hybrid mode. You can view maps in 3D and move around in all directions, like you can in Google Earth on your PC.

Global Navigator can search, view points of interest, plan routes and explore any area of the planet. More importantly, if you have GPS, you can view your position on the screen and activate the route planner navigation mode. This works in much the same way as a satellite navigation system you'd use in a car, and even includes voice instructions to help you get to where you're going.

A feast of features

Other features of Global Navigator include the ability to view photo layers to show images on maps all over the World, add GSM or GPS information to photo and video taken on your camera, and export routes to Google KML format. You can also store favorite locations in Global Navigator.

Finding your way around with Global Navigator is a breeze, although there were some stability issues in our tests. For example, the program would crash when trying to view photos, and the maps often took an age to render in terrain mode. Another shortcoming in Global Navigator is the business look-up feature, which is pretty limited and doesn't cover all areas.

If you find yourself getting lost on a regular basis, Global Navigator will help you get out of tight situations using your Pocket PC. If you have a GPS receiver too, you'll find this app even more useful.

Download Global Navigator 5.8 in Softonic

Business Card Reader 1.1

Business Card Reader allows you to quickly add new contacts to your phone just by taking a photo of their business card.

The application is ideal for anyone who regularly attends conferences, exhibitions, and the like, because it means business card details don't need to be entered manually. With Business Card Reader, you just snap a photo of the card and the program will scan it to retrieve the details. It then opens a new contact page with all of the details pre-filled. This data can then be quickly checked and edited if necessary, before saving to your phone. Business Card Reader even has an option to find a person's LinkedIn account based on the information it collects.

The concept of Business Card Reader is a very innovative and it can make for a useful tool for the traveling businessman. The app recognizes English, French, Italian, German and Spanish cards. However, the program doesn't provide 100 percent accuracy every time. The card images need to be very sharp for Business Card Reader to recognize them. I found it impossible to get a decent enough shot, on the HTC Touch, for instance, because the auto-focus is poor.

Business Card Reader does have an option to select an image from your device. This means you could take pictures with a decent digital camera, transfer them to your Windows Mobile device, then import them into your contacts using Business Card Reader.

If you've got a bulging collection of business cards but don't have the time to sort through and store them, Business Card Reader could be godsend.

Download Business Card Reader 1.1 in Softonic

It allows you to store all manner of items, including text notes, voice notes, images and files.

Once you've installed the program on your Windows Mobile device, you'll need to sign up for a free Evernote account. After this short registration process you'll be presented with a very clear and touch-friendly interface. From here, you're just a tap away from adding a text note, a handwritten ink note, taking a snapshot on your camera, recording an audio note, or uploading a file. The Settings menu in Evernote allows you to view your current monthly usage, and tweak things such as the camera resolution and the way the notes are displayed on screen.

Now, whenever you don't have your PDA to hand you'll be able to access any notes or files you've added in Evernote from any web browser. These can then be edited, deleted, printed or emailed at your leisure. Personally, I found the layout of the online interface quite uncomfortable - unlike the handheld version of Evernote, the text is very small, and the strange menu system makes browsing through your items overly complicated.

From the browser-based version of Evernote you can add notes and files like with the device version. There's also a 'web clipping' tool, available as a Firefox plug-in, which lets you quickly grab web pages as you browse and save them to Evernote.

All in all, Evernote is a powerful productivity app that ensures you're never far away from your important information.

Download EverNote 3.3.64861 in Softonic

This free Twitter client offers a quick and straightforward way to send tweets and check what your friends are up to, while you're on the move. Once installed, you just need to enter your Twitter account details into Twikini and the application will automatically import all of your data.

The friends you're following are displayed in a clear timeline view in Twikini. This display can be customized, allowing you to change the font size, the name display, and the number of tweets that appear. You can even choose from a selection of cool themes to pimp your Twikini even further.

Tweeting from Twikini is dead easy, thanks to a prominent 'Tweet' button that appears at the foot of the interface. Not only can you quickly type a message and post it, but you can also add your GPS location or capture an image from your PDA's camera and add it to your tweet.

Version 2 of Twikini adds a smart new geo-tagging feature that lets you apply your location to your tweets via your GPS coordinates. You simply need to check the 'Geotag with GPS coordinates' option and your location will be included. Also added in this latest version of Twikini is support for the official retweeting feature in Twitter, plus the ability to view other people's Following/Followers lists.

Twikini still doesn't offer you the full range of features that you'd find on the Twitter site itself, and the search options aren't as complete as they could be. As it stands though, Twikini is a clear, simple and fast Twitter client for Windows Mobile, which integrates neatly with your device's camera.

Download Twikini 2.1 in Softonic

3D Mini-Kayak is a canoing simulation in which you need to steer yourself downstream through a variety of natural landscapes. Besides simply traversing the waters you must also capture the memories of your voyage by taking pictures of animals you encounter along the way.

It's not your average arcade game and there are no guns, robots or zombies. Instead, 3D Mini-Kayak offers a relaxing gaming experience in which you can sit back and enjoy the tranquil sound effects of birds twittering and the river lapping against the banks, while keeping your eyes peeled for passing raccoons, deer, cougars and the like. The controls in 3D mini-Kayak are very simple - you steer your canoe using the directional buttons, and when an animal comes into range you click on the camera icon, direct the focus and click the action button to take your shot. Points are awarded for the way your picture is framed and how close to the creature you got.

Although its a pleasurable game to play, ultimately 3D Mini-Kayak gets a little boring and repetitive. In fact, the simple controls and peaceful noises and visuals, might even send you to sleep.

As a result, 3D Mini-Kayak is perfect for calming down on the bus home from a stressful day at work - just don't expect much action.

Download 3D Mini-Kayak 1.1 in Softonic

DynaInk is very simple to use. Simply pick up your stylus and start drawing on screen. The technology behind the app is designed to reflect natural drawing dynamism, and it certainly feels a lots more responsive than other drawing apps for Pocket PC.

There are a few things in DynaInk that you can tinker around with while you're creating your masterpiece. For instance, you can alter the brush width, choose between three brush types, apply dynamic coloring, and pick line colors from an all-encompassing palette. There's also an undo tool that lets you skip back a specific number of steps, including a preview image of each step.

Another neat feature of DynaInk is the ability to add a background image (directly from your mobile camera or from your drive). This can be used to help you by tracing around shapes and objects that you find tricky to draw freehand. You can choose to use the background as part of your composition if you so wish.

Unfortunately, DynaInk lacks much in the way of editing tools. Even fairly standard functions such as Fill, Eraser and a Selection tool are absent from this app. If you're looking for something with a bit more power then take a look at <taglink type="program" country="en" id="66984">Vspainter</taglink> instead, which has much more in the way of tools.

As it is though, DynaInk is still a very simple to use, natural-feeling drawing utility, that's perfect for master artists and beginners alike.

Download DynaInk 1.0 in Softonic

PBA Bowling sees you come against real players from the Professional Bowler's Association as you fight it out on your mobile to be crowned king of the pins.

PBA Bowling is a pretty good effort at a bowling sim for Windows Mobile, and is one of the most realistic you'll find on the platform.

The control system used in PBA Bowling is a lot more natural than you'll find in most bowling games. You simply need to line up your ball using the directional buttons, choose your trajectory, then stop the curved power bar in the right place. If your mobile has a camera on board, you can even use the motion sensor support to bowl down the lane like you would on a Wii.

In terms of its presentation, PBA Bowling is second to none. The 3D in-game graphics are excellent and the sound effects are so realistic that you'll think you're actually at a bowling alley. What's more, there are so many different game modes (tournament, multi-player, Spare Challenge, single game), bowlers, locations and balls to choose from that it'll be a long time before you get bored of this one.

The only really annoying thing we found with PBA Bowling is that you can't skip through your computer opponent's turn, meaning you need to wait and watch each of its shots before you can take yours.

That minor point aside, PBA Bowling is probably the most polished bowling game you'll play on your Pocket PC.

Download PBA Bowling 1.0.9 in Softonic

SpooNotes is a free handwriting application that allows you to quickly scribble notes on your Pocket PC using the stylus. You can customize the color and the brush size of your pen, set the background color, and zoom in and out of the note. There's also an 'Auto-expand' tool that enables automatic scrolling when writing close to the edges of the page.

There are a number of useful features in SpooNotes that extend the program beyond just a digital pad for doodling on when you're bored. for instance, you can open an image within the app and draw on it, or even capture a picture from the device camera and scribble on that. There's also an option for sending notes via email, as well as a very useful tool that invokes SpooNotes while you're on a phone call. This could be perfect for taking down a phone number or directions.

Despite these cool features, there are a few niggling quirks that spoil the enjoyment of SpooNotes somewhat. I found the user interface pretty clunky, and it was difficult to figure out what each menu icon actually does. I would've liked to see an eraser tool too. Granted, SpooNotes gives you unlimited Undos, but sometimes you need a little more precision than that. The app proved to be a bit buggy in my tests, and crashed on a couple of occasions, needing a reset. The app is still in Beta stage, so hopefully the bugs will be ironed out once the full release comes.

Once you get used to it though, SpooNotes makes for an interesting new way to record notes on your Pocket PC.

Download SpooNotes 1.0 Beta in Softonic

Unfortunately, the app itself doesn't quite live up to its cool name.

Quakk is an open source Twitter client for Windows Mobile, allowing you to view your feeds and post tweets from your Pocket PC. The program is easy enough to use. Once signed in, you'll see a list of all the latest posts from the people you're following, in the form of a timeline. You can quickly change the view of the timeline to display either all tweets, only replies, or only direct messages.

Click on a tweet in Quakk and you'll be present with three options: Send Reply, Send Direct Message, or Open Link, which are all pretty self explanatory. To send a tweet of your own your just need to select 'Tweet' from the Menu.

Although Quakk is very straightforward and streamlined, it lacks the power of its contemporaries, such as <taglink type="program" country="en" id="81313">Twikini</taglink>, <taglink type="program" country="en" id="71079">ceTwit</taglink>, or <taglink type="program" country="en" id="73589">Tiny Twitter</taglink>. For instance, there's no support for uploading to TwitPic via the device camera, no GPS location support, no quick retweeting functions, no search tools, etc.

It's by no means a lame duck, but Quakk lacks the tools needed to keep up with the rest of the flock.

Download Quakk 1.0 in Softonic

If you've ever tried connecting to Facebook on your PDA you'll realize what a cumbersome process it can be. Not only is it annoying having to open Internet Explorer every time, but it can take a while to get around the site itself when viewed on the small screen.

Step forward SkyBook, a Pocket PC application designed to help you stay in touch with your Facebook friends all the time. The free program offers a stripped-down version of the popular social site to make it easier to navigate and more mobile-friendly.

You can perform a number of regular Facebook tasks with SkyBook, including sending messages, posting on walls, poking, and adding friends. There's a rather neat option that lets you upload photos directly from your phone's camera, or from a folder on your device to a Facebook album. It even includes some editing settings, such as brightness, resolution, and flash.

SkyBook's user interface is arranged in an easy-to-use way, with tabs at the top representing you, your friends, and a particular contact you've selected. At the bottom you have a series of icons that represent various Facebook functions.

Of course, there are lots of things you can do in Facebook that can't be done using SkyBook, such as instant messaging, events, comments, groups, apps, etc.

However, if you're just looking for a free, easy way to stay up-to-date with Facebook on the move, SkyBook is well worth a try.

Download SkyBook 1.4 in Softonic

The download features Pooh and his pal Eeyore in a festive scene, and also makes changes to your toolbars.

Although the background image is well drawn, I found that it didn't really capture the true spirit of Christmas. Granted, Pooh is wearing a thick wooly coat, but he's not looking at the camera.

What's more, the inclusion of a typically miserable shot of Eeyore, takes away from the fun of the festive period, for me.
Thankfully you also get a quite literally 'cool' seasonal toolbar skin, which transforms the Windows Mobile menu system into a winter wonderland with some well-designed melting ice.

Download Pooh White Christmas Theme in Softonic

If you can't get enough of Twitter and want to keep tweeting even when you're not at a computer, then give Tiny Twitter a try.

Tiny Twitter allows you to check your Twitter feeds and send tweets from your Windows Mobile device. Ultimately, it represents a much cheaper way of spreading the word from your mobile than using Twitter's SMS-sending function.

Using Tiny Twitter is a straightforward affair for anyone who has used the Twitter service before. Once you've signed into your account, you're presented with a list of the latest updates from the feeds you're subscribed to. Adding your own updates is simply a matter of clicking 'Tweet' and tapping in your message. Tiny Twitter lets you know how many characters you've got left as you type. Like the full Twitter, the app allows you to insert photos, taken from your camera phone into your message. You can even enter your precise location automatically by harnessing your device's GPS capabilities.

Although there are some useful interface customization tweaks and synchronization options in its settings menu, Tiny Twitter is still very much a stripped-back version of the Web service, and many of the profile management and people-finding tools of Twitter aren't included.

Nevertheless if you're keen to keep up with updates and spread the word about what you're doing every second of the day, then Tiny Twitter represents a handy mobile solution.

Download Tiny Twitter 1.8.4 in Softonic

WeatherBug Direct 2.2.0

These days if you want to know the weather forecast you don't need to wait for it on TV or buy a newspaper.

WeatherBug Direct is a Windows Mobile add-on that provides you with live local weather information wherever you may be. This information is displayed on your Smartphone's home screen, outlining the forecast for today, tomorrow, and the next day. The data is presented in a very clear way with a weather icon, plus the temperature (only displayed in Fahrenheit, sadly) and the outlook.

Using WeatherBug Direct is pretty straightforward. You set up the application simply by entering the name and country of your location and selecting the nearest point to you from the list of local weather stations. There are more than 8,000 different WeatherBug Direct stations, so it's never that difficult to find one close to you. You can add as many different locations as you like, then set the 'Current location' to the place you're in now.

You can also use WeatherBug Direct to view current (well a few hours old at least) satellite images, weather cameras and radars. Note though, that the radar and camera image features don't always seem to be available, as it depends on your location.

In terms of its accuracy, WeatherBug Direct wasn't perfect in our tests. In fact, as I speak the program is telling me there's only a 32% chance of rain today. It's raining.

While it may not give pinpoint readings, WeatherBug Direct displays live forecasts in a very clear manner and boasts a few interesting features.

Download WeatherBug Direct 2.2.0 in Softonic
