Regarding playback, the movie flows very smoothly even when you move CyberLink PowerDVD's window around or play it in fullscreen mode. CyberLink PowerDVD includes the innovative TrueTheater 3D, a special filter that can transform your DVDs into 3D movies like the ones in cinemas everywhere. The 3D effect obviously only works if you have a 3D-capable display.

CyberLink PowerDVD also lets you change playing speed, take snapshots of your favorite scenes in the movie and have a particular scene or sentence repeated over and over again with the "Say it again" and the "AB Repeat" tools. This may be useful for foreign language students who watch movies to improve their listening skills. Other interesting features in CyberLink PowerDVD are the possibility to share video files on YouTube and support for video bookmarks.

Sound

The interface in CyberLink PowerDirector Ultra is divided into four main tabs (Capture, Edit, Produce and Create Disc), all of them pretty self-explanatory. As for the Edit part in CyberLink PowerDirector – the most complex one – it features the standard design in video editing tools, with a library window to browse your media collection, a timeline to drag and drop elements and a preview window to check what your creation looks like when you put all the elements together.

CyberLink PowerDirector Ultra includes all the necessary tools for the whole creative process, from assisting you in with the very first step (capturing video from several different sources) to adding the final touches to your creation, such as a totally customizable DVD-style menu.

CyberLink Media Suite is a complete multimedia suite that features all the applications you need to make the most of your multimedia library. Among many other tasks, you'll be able to burn personal music collections on CD or DVD, create backup copies of your most important files, and design photo slideshows to share with family and friends.

All the tools included in CyberLink Media Suite are conveniently organized in a sleek dark main menu. All you have to do is search for the particular task you want to do ("watch a DVD movie", "back up your PC", "make an audio CD", "manage photos", etc.) and then launch the corresponding application. The main menu also includes a special Favorites section where you can add shortcuts to your most frequently used apps.

What does CyberLink Media Suite include? As a starter, you'll find a powerful recording tool, Power2Go, with which you can burn data CD and DVD, burn your own music compilations, and create backup copies of important files. Another outstanding app is PowerProducer, which lets you create video discs, burn HDV/DV videos and create video and photo compilations. If you want to create a fully customized slideshow with soundtrack, transition effects and all the bells and whistles, then your best choice is MediaShow. Finally, PowerDVD Copy and PowerBackup also deserve a mention, allowing you to copy non-protected DVD movies and create security copies of your sensitive data respectively.

CyberLink Media Suite is a complete package with high-quality tools, perfect for the average user. That said, we think that more advanced users will probably find the vast suite overkill – the tools are great, but are you really ever going to need them all?

The first thing you will notice about Cyberlink PowerCinema is a really eye-catching but surprisingly easy-to-use interface. You can use the mouse or the keyboard to navigate, and both are equally comfortable. The app is divided into two media sections - Entertainment and My Memories.

The other Cyberlink PowerCinema options relate to configuration settings, updates and help. It has to be said that this is one of the program's weaker points - there are few settings to modify and this may leave some users unsatisfied. The Cyberlink PowerCinema Help is informative, but badly laid out and difficult to navigate.

Cyberlink PowerCinema's main features - Entertainment and My Memories - are much easier to navigate, and users should find it easy to locate their media and access it comfortably. The fullscreen mode is perfect for viewing movies and images (the application also has a basic editor for photos), while the application also supports Live TV, Recorded TV and Radio, if you have the necessary tuners.

Despite the ease of use and range of options, there were a number of problems with Cyberlink PowerCinema that made it a less attractive experience. Although the program says it supports a normal range of movie formats, it had problems playing some of our test movies, and the fullscreen quality isn't very high. At times, Cyberlink PowerCinema was slow or unable to find thumbnails for movies, while the options for listening to music are very, very limited compared to common music players.

Cyberlink PowerCinema looks great and is comfortable to use, but unless you like an extremely basic media experience, it is unlikely to meet most users' requirements.
