Ghost Recon : Future Soldier

Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is a 3rd person shooter, where complete missions with a special forces squad called "Ghosts."

With a story set in the "near future," the Ghosts' equipment is theoretical gear that soldiers could potentially use. Besides the persistent digital interface that you see from the third-person view, you can also use recon drones, optical camouflage, and different visions to gain the upper hand during battle.

Gameplay

The single player story of Ghost Recon : Future Soldier has your team of Ghosts following the trail of an attack on another Ghost Recon team. You are tasked with connecting the dots of the attack and rescuing or arresting characters.

While the game has an open level gameplay style, it is actually very linear. Some missions require direct fire missions and others have you operating with complete silence. The boundaries of some missions require that you are not seen once or you fail.

But during the standard missions, you follow a path through the level and use equipment to always have the advantage. The variety in Ghost Recon : Future Soldier is great so you are not just stuck sneaking and can let loose with air strikes and grenade tossing.

Ghost Recon : Future Soldier takes control of your teammates from you so you don't command them directly. The only directions you give focus around when you are tasking them with providing cover fire or lining up simultaneous takedowns. Otherwise, the game AI performs very well.

Using the other Ghosts as a team is the only way you will win some of the missions.

Graphics

When you're not looking at the faces of the Ghosts or any other character in the game, Ghost Recon : Future Soldier looks great. There had to have been a balance between the amount of detail to the size of the maps. The Ghosts all have a signature appearance and thankfully, most enemies don't carry a copy-and-paste style.

Ghost Recon : Future Soldier has a lot of environmental effects like destructible environments and particle effects. Even when using gas grenades, the smoke billows decently realistically. There are occasional glitches and pop-ups, but not enough to break the immersion in the game.

Ghost Recon : Future Soldier may not be the most visually detailed military third-person shooter, but it serves the experience.

Multiplayer

The multiplayer mode in Ghost Recon : Future Soldier is a robust combination of team objectives and weapon customization. Customizing your weapon is an in-depth and detailed process.

You can customize almost every part of the weapon from the stock, trigger, and barrel. Other customization are upgrading your optical sight, side-rails, and muzzle tip which all affect different attributes of the weapon during Ghost Recon : Future Soldier's multiplayer.

Ghost Recon : Future Soldier's different game modes are all focused on team combat. While snipers are able to run off by themselves, other classes should work together to carefully maneuver around. Players can also use the same tools that they used during the single player campaign, like the recon drone and location grenades.

The experience system gives you unlocks for weapon parts, and completing single player challenges can also unlock new weapons. Players who run-and-gun may get some kills here and there, but a communicative team will succeed.

Decent single player, excellent multiplayer

Ghost Recon : Future Soldier has a fun single player campaign. The story may not make sense, but it is engaging enough to at least play through once.

Multiplayer in Ghost Recon : Future Soldier is excellent, because it offers a different kind of shooter experience. The high tech weapons of Ghost Recon : Future Soldier can change the course of the battles, but steady marksmen working in a team are the best strategy.

Ghost Recon : Future Soldier is a great new chapter in the Ghost Recon series.

Download Ghost Recon : Future Soldier in Softonic

Pixel Force: Halo 1.0

Pixel Force: Halo is a retro 'demake' of the iconic Xbox series, re-imagined as an 80s Nintendo Entertainment System game.

Same story, one less dimension

Following the story of the first game in the series, in Pixel Force: Halo you play Master Chief, the human soldier who has to prevent the alien Covenent from discovering the location of Earth. The bright colors of this 8-bit version actually look really good, and reminiscent of the 3D original. As well as the side scrolling platform-shooting element, there are top-down vehicle segments to break up the gameplay.

Yesterday's gameplay, today's difficulty

Pixel Force: Halo is a fun concept, and if you enjoy platform shooters like the classic Commando, you'll enjoy this. The main criticism of Pixel Force: Halo is that it's a little easy, although if you complete the game you unlock a much harder 'Legendary' mode.

Conclusion

Developer Eric Ruth has again created a fun and loving demake of a classic title. If Halo came out in 1986, it might have looked just like Pixel Force: Halo.

Download Pixel Force: Halo 1.0 in Softonic

8-Bit Commando is a tribute to super-tough 8-bit 80s classics like Contra. Run, jump, shoot the the right, and don't die! This beta is only one level long, but it should challenge even the most hardcore gamers.

With simple controls - cursors for movement, Z and X for shooting and jumping 8-Bit Commando looks like it should be a breeze. But you soon learn that the one-shot-kill, no saves and various traps mean that survival requires the utmost care and accuracy!

If 8-Bit Commando's brutal difficulty sounds off-putting, then it's simply not the game for you. It's been designed to emulate the challenge of early games, which is something it achieves. Older gamers will enjoy the nostalgia, but younger players may wonder why on Earth people played these unfair arcade games!

An entry into 2011's Independent Games Festival, 8-Bit Commando is a challenging and well designed tribute to a time when games didn't hold your hands!

Download 8-Bit Commando Beta 0.1.4 in Softonic

C64 Commando Remake Demo 0.24

C64 Commando Remake is a retro arcade game; a new version of a 1980s home port of an arcade game. Does that make sense? The important information is that this is a fast, one player vertical shoot 'em up. You play a commando and have to survive waves and waves of enemy soldiers.

The C64 Commando Remake can be played via keyboard or game pad, and has very simple controls: 8-way directional control, and shooting in the direction your commando is facing. you can throw grenades if you have them, although they can only be thrown ahead!

In keeping with the 8-bit feel, C64 Commando Remake has very blocky graphics, and a bleepy C64 soundtrack (considered one of the best of its genre). This isn't a modern remake, but one faithful to the original. You have three lives, there are no saves over the two levels, and it's pretty hardcore by today's standards. Touch a soldier or a bullet and you're dead!

C64 Commando Remake feels a little quicker than the original game, although it's difficult to be sure after over 20 years! It's incredibly basic, but that's the attraction of retro games, which are much easier to just pick up and play, even if the difficulty level is higher.

A great trip down memory lane for older gamers, C64 Commando Remake is a challenging shoot 'em up for everyone who can live with graphics that really turn back the clock!

Download C64 Commando Remake Demo 0.24 in Softonic

Grappling hooks have often played a big part in comic book fiction and games like Bionic Commando, but they have never caught on in real life. For anyone upset about this tragic state of affairs, Grappling Hook is a novel 3D first person game where the excellent device is essential.

In fact, Grappling Hook might prove even to doubters that such a tool would be a great thing for use to use on a daily basis. Like the now iconic Portal (to which this owes an aesthetic debt), the game starts with little explanation, but a computer communicates to you along the way that you are in some kind of test, and all you have to do if find the right teleporter to finish.

Every level features some access codes which have to be collected to activate a teleporter to take you to the next level. As you proceed, the puzzle introduce you to moving creatively with the Grappling Hook. Again, Portal was similar in that the Portal gun challenged you to think about movement in a new way. The clean, bright graphics are simple but stylish, and mean that you're guaranteed a smooth and fast game that won't test your PC's processor too much.

In no time you'll be running, jumping and shooting yourself around the levels in Grappling Hook, which is really great fun to play while making you think.

Grappling Hook is a great game for action and puzzle fans alike, and it looks and sounds good with a nice sense of humor.

Download Grappling Hook Demo in Softonic

Cosmic Prison Commando 1.1 Demo

Cosmic Prison Commando takes you back to 1984, in retro 2D shoot 'em up, designed to look like an old Amstrad CPC game.

True to its ideals, Cosmic Prison Commando does indeed look just like one of those games, with blocky, garish colors. If you played games in the 80s, this will bring back memories. It's a totally new game, but plays just like an oldie, even down to your hero Jack's shooting limitations. He can run, duck and jump, but he can't shoot up or down, only side to side. He's an angry, muscle bound hero who has to shoot everything in his path. It's very uncomplicated.

The gameplay is good, if you enjoy this type of thing. It's not easy, and when you die you are returned to the beginning of the level. This is slightly frustrating, although thankfully enemies stay dead, so you can always progress. There are no continues, and no saves! While this is officially a demo, it's really big, and you'll be surprised how much there is to explore. The game's physics work well, and the weapon power ups are excellent.

Everything about Cosmic Prison Commando is straight from the 80s. That means it's pretty hard, and of course the no save games were par for the course then too. The developer has obviously put a lot of effort in to this original slice of retro violence, and while younger players might just find it irritating, anyone who grew up with this type of game will really enjoy it.

Cosmic Prison Commando is a great piece of purist retro action!

Download Cosmic Prison Commando 1.1 Demo in Softonic

While war and famine have been virtually eradicated, one major threat remains hanging over mankind - the threat of alien invasion. UFO: Alien Invasion is a free game rich in background history and strategy. You have to lead a crack commando team to destroy and investigate the increasingly dangerous extraterrestrial technology which threatens to wipe out the human race. The game takes the shape of a strategy/shoot-em-up action based thriller which requires a certain amount of guile and map reading ability as well as a quick trigger finger. The missions are incredibly well thought out and rich in detail and although the graphics aren't exactly stunning, there are some excellent special effects. It's easy enough however to pick up pretty quickly although to get the most out of the game, you'll have to consult the Wiki which has extensive details of the how to play.

You fight on foot, in a tank or in the air via helicopter! The levels are packed with power-ups and action. This game is just like the old school top down shooters “Ikari Warriors” and “Commando”.

If you love simple old school shooters where the only goal is to destroy anything that moves then you are going to love Sketch Warriors 2. Using the same control setup as most FPS games you will have no problem getting into the game kicking some butt.

Download Sketch Warriors 2 1.0 in Softonic
