Need For Speed World 1.8.40.1166

Need For Speed World is the new online version of the extremely popular racing game franchise. It's a massively multiplayer open world game (MMO), with RPG style leveling up.

Huge Open world

Need For Speed World features Palmont, the city from Need For Speed Carbon, and also Rockport from Most Wanted, which combine to make a huge world to explore. There's a night/day rotation, which makes it feel more dynamic. There are no pedestrians, and little traffic. This means you won't be interrupted too often when racing, but does make Need For Speed World feel a bit lifeless.

Car Shopping

Choose a car from a small range of not very exciting cars to start with, liek the Toyota Corolla or Mitsubishi Eclipse, then roam the huge Need For Speed World looking for races. These can be multi or single player, and get into chases with the cops. Evading the police and ranking in races gives you experience points and money, which in turn unlock better cars that you can buy in the Need For Speed World showroom.

Mods

Your cars can be modified with stickers, paint and decals, and power-ups can be chosen and purchased with in game money. Need For Speed World seems pretty stable, even with loads of players online. When you enter the open world you can't crash into other players, only the environment and other traffic. Online players can only push you around if you enter a race. The cars in Need For Speed World have the forgiving, arcade style handling that makes the franchise such fun to play.

There is online chat alongside the racing, and you can add friends and meet up to race them. Graphically Need For Speed World is ok, but looks a few years old. However, this means you don't need a super computer to play the game!

Overall

Need For Speed World is an impressive massively multiplayer online racing game, and although it looks a bit basic it's really playable.

Download Need For Speed World 1.8.40.1166 in Softonic

Max Payne 3

You can pre-order this game now, which is released on June 1st
Max Payne 3 is an action game, pure and simple. Rockstar's sequel to 2003's Max Payne 2 stays true to the series, while looking every bit the 2012 blockbuster we expect it to be.

Gameplay

Max Payne 3 sticks to its third person shooter heritage. Bullet time is an essential part once again, in your quest to survive tons of enemies and scenes full of bullets aimed squarely at you. There are three aim modes - Hard and soft lock, and free aim mode for the pros out there. Hard Lock sticks your reticule to targets and moves with them, while Soft Lock makes Max target the nearest enemy.

The intense shootouts are told through flashback, as Max recounts how his life has hit rock bottom in the city of São Paulo. Cut scenes flow flawlessly into the action, which makes Max Payne 3 really immersive. I hope we see more of this seamless action in <taglink type="program" country="en" id="3332270">GTA V</taglink> too.

The various multiplayer modes include the excellent 'Gang Wars' that plays out like a mini saga between two gangs. Bullet time is well integrated into multiplayer too, so that anyone in your line of sight is also switched into bullet time when activated.

Graphics and Sound

Max Payne 3 looks great. It's full of visual effects that add to the downtrodden feel of Max's tale, and the environments are beautifully brought to life. Rockstar don't disappoint when it comes to acting and voices, and Max Payne 3 is no exception. Max himself is cynically hilarious, and the soundtrack fits perfectly with the sound of bullets rattling around the favelas of São Paulo.

The multiplayer in Max Payne 3 means you'll be playing the game for a long time to come, but the single player campaign too offers some significant challenge. Even with Hard Lock, this game gets tough, but makes it all the more satisfying when you succeed.

Overall

Max Payne 3 is a worthy sequel, with great acting, plot and atmosphere. The action is challenging and brutal, but always fun enough to make you want to try again. It may not be as original or revolutionary as LA Noire, but Max Payne 3 is a much more accomplished game and an essential title for 2012.

Download Max Payne 3 in Softonic

If you've played Portal 2, you'll recognize the two bots, but they are much more violent in Liberty city than in the Aperture Science test chambers. Unfortunately, sound effects haven't been added, so your bot will still make some human noises.

Instructions for installing the GTA IV - Portal 2 Co-Op Bots Mod are included in the download.
As cool as playing as ATLAS and P-body is, this mod makes you wish for even more. What about Portal guns in GTA IV?

If you want to freshen up your GTA IV carnage, the GTA IV - Portal 2 Co-Op Bots Mod is pretty cool.

Download GTA IV - Portal 2 Co-Op Bots Mod Atlas And P-Body in Softonic

L.A. Noire

L.A. Noire is an ambitous cop thriller game following the exploits of policeman Cole Phelps as he rises through the ranks of 40s LAPD.

First Impressions

First impressions of L.A. Noire were perhaps over enthusiastic, and the later release of the PC version allows us a more measured view of this interesting game. While it features the huge open world landscape of Los Angeles, L.A. Noire is no GTA sandbox. Rather, this is a game of detective episodes that take place within the city.

Dirty Work

As well as exploration, driving and shooting, Cole Phelps spends a great deal of time looking for clues at crime scenes, and interrogating suspects. Interrogations take advantage of the impressively realistic facial animations in the game. To succeed you need to read the faces of your potential criminals, which is a new experience for gamers. Looking for clues is a little more mundane, but there are subtle in-game pointers to make sure you don't get stuck. The stories are well written and acted, really giving L.A. Noire the feeling of an excellent interactive TV cop drama.

Flaws

There are problems with the game. L.A. Noire is very linear, and although you can do better or worse in interrogations and crime scene investigations, you cannot fail. The game will help you, with a phone call for example, to make sure Cole Phelps has what he needs to get the case moving. The city of Los Angeles is impressive, but doesn't have the 'living city' feel that GTA IV's Liberty City achieved. Playing L.A. Noire sometimes feels like exploring a huge replica of a city, not like actually being a cop in a city.

Conclusion

These criticisms shouldn't dissuade players. L.A. Noire is a deeply satisfying game with some interesting an innovative ideas. Humans faces have never looked so realistic, and the production values are excellent.

Download L.A.
GTA 2 Volume 2

Now available as a free download as part of Rockstar's classic series, GTA 2 is set in a futuristic metropolis, controlled by warring gangs.

Before the seminal GTA 3 brought the series into glorious 3D, Grand Theft Auto was a pseudo 3D, top down arcade game. The first two entries were cult games for a reason - filled with puerile humor and extreme violence, they were 18 rated affairs, and GTA 2 still warrants that.

GTA 2 sticks to the basic formula of the first game. You are free to roam the city, stealing cars, mowing down pedestrians and picking fights with the cops. The story of the game revolves around you going to pay phones, and doing jobs for the various gangs around the city. You need to earn their respect before you work for them, and can do this by killing their rivals.

GTA 2's controls are pretty simple, although connecting a game pad is probably the best way to play. Gameplay is fast and arcade-like, with scores popping up as you kill people and damage vehicles. It is still fun to play today, though mainly due to the freedom the 2D sandbox gives you. There are plenty of problems with the game, though. The graphics have not aged well at all, considering it was released in 1999, and the lack of an in-game map in GTA 2 makes orientation a pain.

GTA 2 is a fun arcade game, but more of a curiosity than a classic, as it features none of the depth or subtlety that the series went on to achieve.

Download GTA 2 Volume 2 in Softonic

Grand Theft Auto IV is the fourth installment of the successful GTA sandbox-based action game series created by Rockstar.

Playing the role of Niko Bellic, an Eastern European immigrant who’s just arrived to the US, Grand Theft Auto players must make their way into the new country and leave a dark, mysterious past behind. With the help of several other characters, Niko will gradually explore Liberty City and engage in increasingly difficult missions – often involving theft, murder, kidnap and other crimes.

The city in Grand Theft Auto is largely based in New York City. You’ll recognize popular landmarks like the Metlife building, the Statue of Liberty and Times Square. Everything in the game has been designed with attention to the smallest detail, and many of the objects and props around you respond to player interaction.

Besides the main missions that follow the game’s main plotline, Grand Theft Auto also offers dozens of side missions and minor stories that will really hook you up to the story. Whether you decide to play on your own or share adventures with friends in multiplayer mode, Grand Theft Auto (GTA) IV is definitely one of those games everyone should try.

Grand Theft Auto (GTA) IV is an excellent sandbox-based action-packed game with loads of missions, appealing characters and a huge city to explore on your own.

Download Grand Theft Auto (GTA) IV in Softonic

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the third 3D game in the GTA series, taking the action from Vice City's 80s to a 90's hip hop world of hood violence and gangsters.

You play as Carl Johnson, returning to his home of Los Santos after 5 years away. Plenty has changed over the years, and Carl sets about getting his gang's reputation and influence back. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas' gameplay is classic GTA - tons of cinematic cut scenes, varied missions and lots of mini games, spread over a free roaming sandbox world.

What defines Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas more than anything is the scale. It's hugely ambitious, set in a massive state featuring three big cities, and plenty of countryside. The campaign is enormous, and there is plenty more to do beside. The storyline, a rags to riches tale, may not be massively original but it's well told with excellent acting and lots of memorable and funny characters. The radio stations are excellent, with a great mix of 90s music and hilarious adverts.

There are points where the Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be frustrating for some. Racing cars in the countryside can be pretty slippy for instance, and building up Carl's lungs for swimming underwater takes too long. Some of the missions are a little annoying too, but hey are eclipsed by the best moments of the game and the amount of fun you can have roaming the state, enjoying the sites and creating havoc!

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is a milestone in sandbox gaming. It's violent and very much an adult game, and while it has gameplay flaws, the overall achievement and the fun you can have playing are pretty much unbeatable.

Download Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in Softonic

The Saboteur

The Saboteur is a stylish open world action game. Set in a stylized, over-the-top 1940s Paris, your undercover saboteur has to run, fight, climb and chase his way around the city to avenge your friend by taking out the occupying Nazis.

The format of this sandbox game is like many others, make your way around, completing missions you are given on the way. Of course, while avenging your friend's death, you'll more or less single-handedly save Paris! Realism is not important in Saboteur, and you have to play it accepting that it's not to be taken seriously.

Graphically, The Saboteur is not up to the standards of games like GTA IV or Assassin's Creed. It's also more buggy, with graphics occasionally popping up as you travel around the city. The story is clichéd, as are the characters.

The driving is satisfying, even if Paris isn't made a very exciting place to drive around. Damage isn't realistic though, so you don't really need to drive with any care! Despite its technical and gameplay limitations, The Saboteur can still be fun to play, and there is plenty to see and do around the city.

The Saboteur isn't as impressive as the best sandbox, open world games, but it has its moments.

Download The Saboteur in Softonic

Grand Theft Auto Volume 1

Grand Theft Auto is a legendary action game that's famous for being violent and action packed. If you've played the more modern installments, the original will come as a bit of a surprise. If you played the original, Grand Theft Auto (GTA) is about to bring back some serious memories.

Since the original Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar Games has gone from strength to strength, with the GTA series exploding. This partly due to the game's fantastic sandbox approach, giving players an incredible feeling of space and control. The game takes place in three different cities: Liberty City, San Andreas and Vice City and you earn points by causing damage, car sales and cashing in your criminal activities. Anyone who knows their cultural references is also going to enjoy Grand Theft Auto's subtle references to Miami Vice and Scarface.

At first Grand Theft Auto seems a bit superficial. After a while playing, you notice that the game is addictive, with bunches of clever little touches that make it really fun. If you listen to the radio while driving, for example, you'll find 7 radio stations with really professional-sounding - but invented - hits.

Although it looks dated now, Grand Theft Auto is a classic game that you absolutely can not miss.

Download Grand Theft Auto Volume 1 in Softonic
