Happy Wheels

Happy Wheels is an arcade game game with a dark humorous twist.

In the spirit of games like QWOP, you control the character you're playing with various keys on your keyboard. These are fully customizable if you want to change them in your preferences. The object of Happy Wheels is to get your character through each level as quickly as possible while completing a variety of prompted tasks.

There are a variety of different levels in Happy Wheels where you can do anything from drive a race car to putter around on a segway. Controls are relatively easy, although it does take a few tries to figure out how to make your player move in the exact way you want him to. Every time you hit an obstacle in Happy Wheels, you'll be prompted with text to perform certain keyboard functions in order to move on.

Happy Wheels can be a bit gory, in a cartoon kind of way. For example, in one level when your character is transported back to prehistoric times, a non-playable character gets eaten by a dinosaur, at least partially. His limbs are left behind in a spray of pixellated blood you have to drive your segway through. It's nothing too graphic, but Happy Wheels might not be appropriate for younger children as a result. The game also sometimes freezes up, making your character's movements stick occasionally.

Happy Wheels is an utterly random (and a little bit gory) browser game that will provide considerable amusement.

Download Happy Wheels in Softonic

DiRT 3 Preview

Dirt 3 is released Spring 2011, and Codemasters are promising somewhat of a return to its rallying roots.

While Colin McCrae's name doesn't appear on Dirt 3, the focus of this racing game is firmly traditional rally events. Dirt 2 annoyed some users with it's more arcade gameplay, and the in-your-face 'extreme sports' style overall. This third installment mixes Ken Block's wheel spinning antics with proper stage based rally events.

Trailers for Dirt 3 show that the realism has been increased, while the new weather effects make rain and snow look stunning. Codemasters see this as the last of a trilogy, and want to create the best off road racing game out there. What we've seen looks and sounds great, but have they done enough to keep fans happy? Unfortunately there will be no demo of DiRT 3.

Dirt 3 promises to be the definitive rally game of the year; mixing realism with fun, and traditional rallying with an extreme sports mentality.

Download DiRT 3 Preview in Softonic

Overlord II Demo

In the absence of evil on Earth, a human empire has risen, where everyone is free and happy except those who are enslaved or imprisoned. In Overlord II, a new evil Overlord has come to restore evil to Earth. You are this Overlord, and have to build an army of minions to help you defeat the enemies of evil.

It's a third person game, with remarkably simple controls. Combat and puzzles are executed in the same way. When you see a problem, whether it be a wheel that needs turning, or a baby seal that needs clubbing, you just point your minions in the right direction, lending a hand if you want. Your minions are full of amusing chatter as you move around, and keep the tone light. While it's violent, it's not serious and not at all gory.

Visually, Overlord II is quite impressive. In terms of style, it's pretty standard fantasy stuff, but well done and with some nice effects. As there can be a lot going on, you'll need a powerful machine to run Overlord II with high detail levels. The sound is atmospheric, and the aforementioned speech is excellent.

The only real criticism of Overlord II is that the gameplay is a little simple, and when there are lots of things on screen, it can get confusing.

Overlord II is an enjoyable and sometimes hilariously evil game.

Download Overlord II Demo in Softonic

SimCity Societies

The SimCity saga is a classic in the world of videogames. Its attractive mixture of strategy and simulation elements along with a high level of detail has made a real success from it.

SimCity Societies is one of the last representatives of this popular series: a new title that follows the SimCity line, but adding more and more elements from The Sims, the other successful saga created by EA. In a way, we could say the game is now easier to play – something which newcomers will be thankful for – while still keeps the same addictive elements for hardcore SimCity players.

In SimCity Societies you have the possibility to create very different towns, not only in aspect, but also in their values. From creativity to spirituality, from knowledge to production, the values of your city will affect its general design and layout.

Another distinctive feature is the attention paid to your citizens, not just as a crowd of people, but actually caring about their individual needs and feelings. You can click on anyone of them and see how they're doing, where they work and whether they're happy of not.

We also find this incredible level of detail in the game's graphics. You can freely move around with your mouse and use the wheel to zoom up to street level, until you're able to see your citizens' faces. There's also a huge array of objects (homes, workplaces, shop and the like) you can choose from and combine anyway you want. On the downside, this means that you have so much information in the game's interface that it can become really overwhelming for first-time players.

SimCity Societies is, in short, a very entertaining game: the kind of title that you can play for hours without noticing the passing of time. Also, it's a great chance for you to start playing the SimCity saga if you haven't played any of these titles before.

SimCity Societies is the evolution of the original SimCity saga: a strategy building simulator that will get you hooked before you can even notice it.

Download SimCity Societies in Softonic
