In Botanicula you follow five tree creatures as they attempt to save their tree from an infestation of evil parasites. Botanicula isn't a normal point and click adventure. While there is a story, the point of the game seems to be exploration and interaction.

It's a surprisingly big game, with lots to explore and quite a complex map. The tree is divided into screens, and on each screen you can interact with the flora and fauna in different ways, sometimes for fun and sometimes to solve puzzles. There are no long conversations to follow, just really pretty animations accompanied by a gorgeous soundtrack.

Botanicula manages to stay away from being simply an attractive ambient experiment with the consistently inventive animals, and the evil parasites, which reminded us a little of the much scarier Limbo. Botanicula has a casual feel to it, but you'll enjoy it even if you consider yourself a 'hardcore gamer'.

One of the most enjoyable and relaxing games you'll play this year, Botanicula is the kind of experience which really is suitable for all the family, without boring any of them!

Family Tree Builder also has excellent configuration settings, which means that with a little bit of work (and you will need to put in an effort to get the most out of the app, which is really very complete), you can get an awful lot out of this program.

Despite this huge amount of data, Family Tree Builder is really easy to use. It lets you browse the tree in several ways and also view or export it in a variety of formats. What's more, you can publish your family tree to your webpage right from the program. Family Tree Builder's only flaw, if any, is the compulsory registration in order to use it. But hey, it's free: what else can you ask for?

The genealogic tree in My Family Tree begins with the first member of the family. This can be anyone, as you will be creating the rest of the tree based on the relationship with this first person: father, mother, siblings, spouse, children and so on.

Each entry in My Family Tree includes a bunch of data about the person: name, date and place of birth, genetic information (blood group, eye color and so on) and a special area to write a short biography. You can also attach photos and videos.

Besides the traditional tree view, My Family Tree offers other ways to view the information, such as a timeline and a complete series of statistics that compile the most outstanding events along the years: births, deaths, marriages, etc.

Once completed, the tree in My Family Tree can be saved, printed or exported to GEDCOM, a genealogic tree standard format. There aren’t many configuration options when printing the tree, but given that you can add media files to the tree, leaving it on the computer is probably a better option.

Managing your genealogy can be a daunting task. ohmiGene lets you create new family members and connect them together. We liked how you can set whether a profile is private or public, add pictures and create unions between people. The program also has an advanced search to browse members by many categories like sex, birth, death or unions. Results will appear in the list view on the left. ohmiGene also lets you import and export GEDCOM genealogy files.

The interface is confusing and stuffed with small icons, making it difficult to get to grips with the program. It did take us a while to understand how to create new members and form unions. We were also disappointed to learn that the program limits you to 500 members for your genealogy.

ohmiGene offers advanced features to manage your genealogy but feels a little bit counter-intuitive.

If you are looking for a complete tool for diagrams, flowcharts, graphs and mapping, we'd definitely recommend Edraw Max. It will allow you to organize your thoughts - or plans - in graphic form, making it easier and simpler to put them into action.

The sheer breadth of Edraw Max's functions means that it is relatively easy to get lost. The interface is attractive and simple to use - it uses the popular ribbon layout, which means that most users will be able to find their way around intuitively. There's a large selection of Help options, and the start-up screen displays all the templates available, making it easy to start any process.

Once you have picked the best mind map template for your needs with Edraw Max, you create the chart by dragging elements from the Libraries on the left into the main interface. You can then rename, modify and move each element until it accurately represents the idea in your head.
