If you like to watch YouTube and Google Video regularly but are worried about them being taken offline then Videobox can help.

Videobox allows you to quickly and easily download Flash video from most popular video sites on the internet. Videobox will convert the video into a native Quicktime format so it's ready to view on your Mac, iPod, iPhone or iTunes. Videobox is a simple widget that uses keywords to search for Google Video and YouTube videos from your desktop. The immediate problem with Videobox is that because both these services hare gradually being merged, you often get the same results for both but still, the search works pretty well.

Simply enter your search terms into the Videobox searchbox and hit the magnifying glass. The results in Videobox take a little longer than using the video sites directly but you'll soon be presented with a list of results from both YouTube and Google Video that match your criteria including title, description and in the case of YouTube, tags. The disadvantage is that you don't benefit from the comments.

Videobox is a useful alternative to searching for videos via YouTube and Google Video when you don't have the time or inclination to read the comments.

Download Videobox 2.7.2 in Softonic

With Fluid you can access all your web applications from your desktop.

Ever used Prism or Webrunner? Just like these two applications, Fluid allows you to access all your web apps (like Facebook, Gmail or Campfire) from your desktop. Essentially, Fluid is a simple browser that hosts web applications in a very basic interface. Once you start it up, type the url of your web app in the window, select a name and location, press OK and you're ready to go. The advantage of using it is that you free up your browser for other things. It also uses up very little memory and is very fast.

On the downside, Fluid is in a way like a stripped down browser window. No controls, panel bar or preferences, you only get a browser window for each webapp you launch. This also means that most of the features you take for granted in your browser, such as spell-checking, pop up window management or tabs will not work.

Although it doesn't offer the advanced features of a browser, Fluid is a great tool to access your web apps separately on your Mac desktop.

Download Fluid 0.9.2.5 in Softonic

Leopard Cache Cleaner (LCC) is a solid application to scan and clean your Mac of alls sorts of unwanted files. You'll easily remove cache, language localization files and other unnecessary data. If you're worried about crashing your Mac, you can even run LCC in Single User Mode. To protect your Mac, LCC includes ClamAV antivirus, which although quite sluggish, performs deep scans of your system.

We liked how you could adjust a few Mac features, like momentarily shutting off Spotlight or the Dashboard to improve the performances of your Mac. Users would also do well to create automated steps for simple actions like removing cache or scanning the Mac. While the program is not that complicated to use, we felt the interface was slightly counterintuitive. Once you get familiar with it it should be fine though. The name of the program is also a bit confusing: Leopard Cache Cleaner is essentially the same as Tiger or Panther Cache Cleaner, only that it works on Apples latest OS.

A good tool to have around to carry out regular maintenance on your Mac.

Download Leopard Cache Cleaner 4.0.13 in Softonic

Flash Optimizer is designed to make Flash less bloated and faster to load in your website. It's a simple tool for web designers and Flash developers, allowing you to reduce the size of your SWF files by up to 60-70%. Flash Optimizer does this using a range of algorithms of vectors, shapes, morphing, fonts and other optimizations.

The Flash Optimizer user interface is simple enough for those without Flash programming knowledge to use. When you open Flash Optimizer you're presented with two types of compression configuration - simple and advanced, the latter offering more than 50 separate tweaks and adjustments. The latest version of Flash Optimizer is even simpler to use than before too because you can open multiple tabs according to how many files you want to compress. Flash Optimizer does more than compress graphics and animations though - it also allows you to compress sound which can constitute a large part of any Flash file.

Flash Optimizer is a simple utility that may or may not speed up the time it takes for your Flash animations and graphics to load in your website.

Download Flash Optimizer 2.2.26.3629 in Softonic

Designed in the spirit of the latest software built for Mac, BannerZest is fitted with a smooth dark grey, semi-transparent interface and really makes full use of Leopard's graphical improvements.

Making your presentation is as easy as pie. Drag and drop pictures from your images folder to the timeline into the order you want them to appear. Using the settings window you'll be able to add all sorts of effects, themes and animations. Although the application is pretty basic, you can still tweak these around, thanks to sliders and pixel boxes. Remember to add a title, subtitles and borders to make your presentation look good.
Adobe Media Player 1.0 Beta

It seems that everyone is slowly starting to realise that the future of video broadcasting lies online rather than inside a television.

Following the success of Joost, Babelgum and VeohTV, Adobe decided to get in on the act with the release of the Adobe Media Player. The philosophy of the software giant is that if you use a browser to navigate web pages, why shouldn't you use one to view multimedia too?

The result is basically a version of Joost as seen through the eyes of Adobe. Now out of beta release, the app provides an interesting and immersive way of watching videos online. Navigation is very smooth and feels natural and there are a number of features and services that make it easier to eyeball TV more effectively. For instance, you can create a list of favorites, and keywords add ratings to Flash video, build playlists and use the Dashboard-style interface to check out the latest episodes of your top shows. You can also now subscribe to RSS feeds that tell you when new episodes are online.

Content is king though, of course, and version 1.1 of Adobe Media Player adds a lot more episodes and channels from a broad range of genres. At the time of writing, Adobe estimates that there are around 25,000 episodes available through its media player. Adobe has even partnered with Sony Pictures to offer some movies through the service, such as Jerry Maguire and Men in Black. I was also impressed by the speed and quality of the videos.

One of my main qualms with Adobe Media Player though, is that many of the episodes are not available outside the USA. Fine if you live there, of course, but for those of us in other lands it's so frustrating to see a show you want to watch only to discover it's not available (of course, you don't find this out until after an advert has played in the player).

Glossing over the unavailability of some programs and channels, Adobe Media Player is making all the right strides to becoming the best place to watch TV online.

Download Adobe Media Player 1.0 Beta in Softonic

Media Catalog may just be what you're looking for. The application works extremely quickly and indexes everything you throw at it: CDs, DVDs, folders, just drag and drop onto its interface and Media Catalog will index it.

Making use of the latest Apple technology, Media Catalog offers a powerful search tool, which comes in extremely useful once you've been cataloging a good deal of media. You'll also notice the Quick Look tool at the bottom, to get a fast preview of elements.

I enjoyed how Media Catalog always seemed to keep everything well organized. Even better was the statistics section, which gives you extra details on files like size, update or number of volumes.

Now Media Catalog can take some time cataloging your media, especially if you're throwing at it big sized files, however in general its works extremely quickly.

The application fits in your launch bar and shows translations for any word in German or English that you hover your arrow over. You can add the word to a database and have it voiced thanks to a little link in the hover window.

TranslateIt! also features a wide range of free dictionaries from which you can quickly look up definitions and translations. Try using the simple yet practical Word Quiz to learn new words quickly. You can also print flash cards to memorize words with. We like the search feature which lets you find definitions and translations for any word in seconds.

Showing translations in a hover window, is a good idea at first, but it can quickly get annoying. We suggest disabling it and having it come up only with a hotkey.

With Adobe Dreamweaver you get an intuitive yet powerful tool to design and put up your own websites. Dreamweaver is tailored both for beginners and more advanced users as it includes many tutorials and help and a solid collection of advanced features that designers will enjoy working with.

Organized in the classic Adobe style that you immediately recognize in any of the developer's programs, Dreamweaver gives you easy access to all your editing and designing tools. You can work with a full code or full design view, however most people will prefer to choose the split view, which is much more flexible to edit with.

You'll find Dreamweaver makes it easy to insert any sort of element, whether an image, a Flash file or a piece of audio. Elements can be moved around an adjusted until you are happy with the layout of your pages.

This latest version has improved the CSS capabilities in Dreamweaver with more templates, and a tool to manage your styles and move them to your own style sheets. The CSS code also comes with comments that explain how it works and how to use it, something that beginners and experienced users alike should appreciate.

I was a little disappointed that the interface only underwent slight cosmetic changes, but the biggest drawback of all to Dreamweaver in my opinion is still the price. Even though it's a powerful application, not everybody will be ready to pay $399 for it. You'll also have to make for sufficient disk space to accomodate the 1GB installer package.

Adobe Dreamweaver is a reference in terms of web designing, editing and creating and offers alot of help and guidance.

Download Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 in Softonic

It allows developers to create new web applications using HTML, XML, Javascript and Flex. What's more they aren't limited to using Adobe's library, but can create, share and use their own to create specific web applications.

For users, it gives access to new and exciting rich internet applications (RIA) which can be run straight from their desktop. These use very little memory, are usually quick to launch and execute and have very smooth animations. A quick visit to the Adobe Showcase Gallery and you get an idea of the sort of applications that are being developed for AIR: a Google Analytics Reporting Suite, a Twitter desktop client, a movie discovery tool and much, much more. The possibilities are endless and really depend on the creativity of developers.

While I've had some errors with AIR, especially when installing new apps, I'm overall very impressed with it. Quietly but surely, we're seeing more and more exciting web applications being developed. What Bokeh aims to do is refocus power to those applications that matter.

The application comes as a drop down menu bar item, from which you can select applications to pause or simply set which one to focus on. This last action allows you to simply pause all other applications except the one you will use. You'll see your screen flash for a split second and then blur out, except for the selected application. While I found that pretty cool at first, it really makes you dizzy after a while.

Bokeh works with as many applications as you want and it's nice being able to select which ones to freeze without having to shut them down. However I did find that Bokeh used up a lot of memory, generally more than 100 MB, and turning Activity Monitor also revealed that frozen applications still used up as much memory as if they were running.

If the focus effect doesn't give you headaches, you might using Bokeh. Yet don't expect it to free up loads of memory for you.
BitTorrent 4.72.2

The torrent phenomenon is one of the most hyped about in the world of technology among Peer to Peer (P2P) users. It consists of sharing large files, like movies, software, or games anonymously and quickly with other peers. The file you want to download is cut up into small segments shared by users, creating what is called a swarm, and does not go through a central server, significantly reducing the bulk of file transfers, The Bittorrent client is actually the first P2P application to use this technology and became immensely popular when it was released. Torrents are considered by online users as a great way to download recently released movies or tv shows.

Thanks to a straightforward, uncluttered interface Bittorrent appears as a friendly torrent client that beginners will feel comfortable with. Once you’ve found the torrent you want, download it to your Mac, open it up inside Bittorrent and let the client do its job. The speed at which you download will depend on the number of seeds, that is people who have the complete file and are sharing it. The more seeds there are the quicker files will download.

You can set multiple torrent downloads and the downloading speed is fairly quick. It’s easy to configure the client and we suggest choosing the right port and setting upload and download rate limits to avoid hogging your bandwidth. It’s also good to set your downloads by priority to monitor more precisely how your torrents are doing.

Compared to the exhaustive Azureus, Bittorrent is very simplistic. It doesn’t provide half as many statistics and doesn’t let you customize the interface. Integrating a search box is a great idea, but it limits searches to the bittorrent website, not considered the most thorough source by torrent aficionados.

If you’re a newbie to the torrent world, Bittorrent is a good bet. It’s safe, stable and sharp. Associated with the huge database of legal torrents that is the bittorrent website, it makes for a very rich P2P experience. Advanced users will probably frown upon its lack of options but others should give it a try.

Download BitTorrent 4.72.2 in Softonic

PhotoLine 32 14.51

Who says you absolutely need Photoshop when editing images? PhotoLine is just another example that solid alternatives photo editing tools do exist.

The application loads very fast compared to Photoshop, and offers a very similar interface, with most of your tools placed on the left. You'll get access to a wide range of layers, effects and filters from the menu bar and various viewing modes. The program also lets you easily create HDR images and offers full masking support.

Photoline includes a web tab, from which you can create animations, buttons or images. In 'web export' you'll be able to add last second touches and actions such as converting to grey or brightening shadows.

A solid image editor needs to be able to save to many formats, which PhotoLine does. You can choose from over 20 different types including Macintosh icon and AVI.

To be honest though, we'd have to say that PhotoLine compares best with Photoshop Elements, simply because it doesn't have as many features as the complete Photoshop.

In all though, PhotoLine remains an excellent image editing application with many tools and effects to get the most out of your pictures.

Download PhotoLine 32 14.51 in Softonic

Flash Decompiler Trillix 3.0.12.3425

This application is extremely handy to extract objects from a SWF or simply to convert a SWF into FLA. The program offers both basic and advanced modes. When testing it we found it converts SWF files fairly quickly. The progress bar lets you know how far you've gone in the operation anyways. The advanced settings for converting include detecting motion tweens, actionscript, symbols, and you can specify what timeline, page or library elements you want to include.

In the extracting feature you can select specifically what sort of object you wish to obtain from the SWF, such as video, images or fonts. The application can convert them into FLA or a more native file type, like MP3 for sounds. The extracted files are all a saved in a well organized folder, with sub folders for each object type.

Obviously, there's always a risk of losing a few elements when converting or extracting from SWF to FLA. This program gets it right the majority of the time and the sleek interface divides both extracting and converting features well.

Download Flash Decompiler Trillix 3.0.12.3425 in Softonic

Ever wanted to see all the default applications you use on your Mac? Deafaulter is a simple little window that will show you these.

The application displays defaults for your web browser, email client and RSS reader. Clicking on the choice for each opens up a drop down menu from which you can choose from other applications that you have installed and that can perform the operation. Once you changed it, the application becomes the default.

Although Defaulter is limited, it can also give you a quick overview of what applications you have installed for a specific job. For example you can right away see what web browser you are using. It launches very quickly and implements changes right away so if you feel like switching your default apps, the program might come in handy.
