What is it about restaurants that gets developers' creative juices flowing?

It seems that there is a plethora of games devoted to food-related activities, usually running your own restaurant or cafe, and Turbo Fiesta takes that principle into space! Rebecca and Robert are taking their fast food empire to totally new heights. With personal space travel booming, people are apparently taking more and more lunch breaks in space - and in the Turbo Fiesta restaurant, they want more than that vacuum-sealed powdered gunk that astronauts have to eat.

Your Turbo Fiesta diner is populated by all kinds of characters whose hungry stomachs you have to satisfy in double quick time. No sooner has one finished, than another one wants to make his or her order.

The graphics are truly excellent as are the slick sound effects although the soundtrack starts driving you mad after a while. You control Rebecca and Robert via your mouse, although the response times to you sending them to serve customers can be a bit sluggish.

With more than 50 levels, Turbo Fiesta will definitely keep you going for a while and provides a fair few hours of astronomical and gastronomical fun.

The banking features of the program are simple-to-understand and besides allowing you to view your accounts, an online facility gives you direct access, allowing you to make transfers, deposits and consult live details through AceMoney. This sounds great in theory, but in reality there are only a few banks registered with the system and no credit unions. Besides its banking facilities, there’s a useful portfolio manager for keeping a check on your investments and nine different reporting tools to help you better chart your financial progress.

Although these features are well executed, there are areas where AceMoney is somewhat lacking. For instance, its financial planning section is very sparse and basically amounts to a calculator for working out loan repayments and savings plans, rather than tools for helping you plan all your finances ahead. There are also no tax options, so these calculations have to be done in another app and copied in, which could lead to errors.

AceMoney is a good value program that offers a simple way to track your financial transactions in order to keep your head above water. However, if you’re running a business or need to plan your finances in great detail then the software is somewhat lacking and it’ll be worth splashing out for a more powerful application.

As the saying goes - Timing is Everything - and Good Timing aims to ensure that you'll get it right everytime.

It's a very simple program that allows you to configure alarms in any way that you want for every occasion. In fact, it's one of the most flexible alarms you'll find anywhere. There's nothing complicated about setting the times. You can enable several alarms to trigger at one time which is useful if you have to time different events in succession or simultaenously. Of course, it can also be used as a simple reminder tool allowing you to configure a short text warning regarding the type of event you're setting it for - whether it's food in the oven or an important meeting you have to attend. You can also scroll through the history of your alarms which is useful if you need to know at what time a recurring event is finishing it and compare it with current trends. The best thing about this alarm however is that all the sounds are completely customizable. You can use audio files, including Mp3s, as the default sound which is preferable to the ones that come with the program which are rather uninspiring.

There's nothing fancy or difficult about this alarm and it's a great solution for anyone who needs to time multiple events or a highly customisable warning system.

There aren't many games around that involve vacuum cleaners but Vacuum Magic, as the name suggests, is one of them and quite a bizarre one it is too.

The point of Vacuum Magic is to use your magical vacuum cleaner field to collect food and defend yourself against monsters. The classy bit of Vacuum Magic is this - food and certain monsters can be spat out and used as a projectile weapons against other monsters. The action in Vacuum Magic is fast paced and sometimes it's hard to know if your gobbling food or a monster but somehow, you continue to keep flying around the universe.

Vacuum Magic has one other unusual feature too in that six players can play either against each other or work together to clean the world of food and monsters. The more food you collect and the more monsters you kill in Vacuum Magic, the more points you get. You also get balls which you can use as weapons to destroy the monsters which get progressively bigger, quicker and more intelligent as the game goes on.

Vacuum Magic is a very odd game that doesn't have great graphics but the gameplay is strangely addictive at least for a short while.

Organising contacts is an increasingly difficult task no matter who you are - if you add together all of the contacts on your mobile, e-mail and other external devices, it would probably be enough to go round the moon twice - or something like that.

Open Contacts is a brave attempt at trying to tie all these contacts together. The first thing that strikes you is that, it's not exactly the best looking program you've ever seen. It's more like an Excel spreadsheet with a few tasteless looking pink fields here and there. However, once you get working with it, you realise that it's not just an ugly face. The application has presets for various types of contact namely People and Companies. Both follow the same principle and the default layout gives you four fields within each one which you can move about. Each field expands into a whole page which allows you to enter just about everything from their eye colour to their favourite food if you so choose. In fact, few people will want or need to go into so much detail about their contacts but this is supposed to be a definitive kind of contacts book that you will refer to time and again although you get the feeling it's more like a police database at times. The program could have done with a few wizards to take you through the whole process a few times to begin with although the help file is extensive.

Open Contacts does help link and divide your contacts but it could do with a much better looking interface and a more simpler data fields for most people's needs.

If healthy food were as flat and boring as the interface of this program, you would have all the reasons you need to avoid it! The design is unbelievably poor and unfortunately, in the trial version it’s not possible to see the selection of recipes. It is possible though, to calculate your Body Mass Index by entering your height and weight. You may as well have a look at your Metabolic Syndrome by going into more detail, such as the fasting blood glucose, waist circumference and finally entering your blood pressure. The software also gives you some indication about the Vegetarian, Asian, Mediterranean and USDA diets, together with Diet Pyramids and a Glycemic Index of common food items.

This of course should not substitute a visit to your doctor in case of serious diet problems, but it can help you to have an idea of what is a balanced diet and how many calories we should have on a daily basis.

Each tribe member has his own character and what he likes and dislikes. You will have to make the best of all of them to make sure the whole tribe survives and becomes stronger. Throughout the game you will also be presented with a number of puzzles to solve. Winning tech points will improve your skills (leadership, restoration, alchemy, medicine and science).

If you are a big fan of simulation games and notably of The Sims series you will probably like this game. However, although the game offers enough help, the lack of clear objectives at the beginning might put off some users. You will need a bit of patience before your tribe really starts developing.

Virtual Villagers 3 - The Secret City is faithful to other iterations of the series: good graphics, lots of puzzles and control over a number of characters. A fun and exotic simulation game!

If you liked the film Finding Nemo then you might be enthralled by Feeding Frenzy 2 which takes Feeding Frenzy One and just adds bigger fish and more sharks!

You're aim to to destroy the Shark King but in between you and him stand a multitude of monsters, creepy crawlies and other underwater demons designed to stop you on your mission. Your weapon is your stomach - simply eat as many of them in as quick a time as possible but avoid being eaten yourself. Along the way, you can collect powerups which give you a few extra energy boosts along the way to help you dart out of the way of trouble. The gameplay is fast and furious and the graphics are cartoon style but cute. It's quite amusing watching your character get fatter and fatter as he approaches the final levels although it's not particularly challenging. It seems there are only a handful of levels and within your first few games, you'll probably find yourself nearing the shark king. For this reason, it's probably a game highly suitable for young kids because it's easy to play, colourful to look at and there's no blood and gore!

A pretty addictive little game although more suitable for children than adults as it's way too easy to meet your nemesis - or should I say, nemefish.

As far as unusual concepts go for food related games, Burger Shop must be one of the weirdest and yet at the same time, it's surprisingly good.

The graphics in particular are excellent for a game of this calibre and type which follows your progress after you've received a set of strange blueprints in the mail. The blueprint allows you to build a bizarre food-making machine and open a restaurant. There are so many levels to this game that it's hard to get through them all quickly but your aim is basically to run the most successful burger store as possible as you dazzle the world with your BurgerTron 2000. As mentioned the graphics certainly impress with their clarity and detail although unfortunately the sounds don't exactly match up. The music is really repetitive and some of the food sounds are poor although this doesn't detract too much from enjoyment of the game. On the plus side, the game plays very smoothly and is highly suitable for those with low end machines and laptops.

Fun graphics and gameplay and suitable for slower machines to boot, if only the sounds were improved this would be a classic small game.

I've never thought about it and I was astonished to know that we eat between 25 to 75kg per day.

A detailed Footprint Result is shown after pressing the black footprint icon on top of the main form. It shows the amount of Co2 we produce in a coloured cake chart. You can compare it with the information provided underneath it, in which it states the average emission per person in US, which is about 20tons of Co2 per year, while the for EU citizens it's around 11 tons. Whether your personalised results will make you feel a bit guilty or proud of your lifestyle, remember you can always offset the emission you produce by supporting specific schemes. A selection of those, found on the Tufts Climate Initiative web site is: Carbonfund, The CarbonNeutral Company, Cleanairpass, Climate Care, Solar Electric Light Fund and TerraPass.

This basic application allows you to keep a track of your energy consumption and calculate your carbon emissions. Taking all the best bits of Dinner Dash and then putting you in the role of the chef rather than the waitress, the game sees you work your way through 7 themed restaurants as you aim to become the best chef in the land. The game works based on how many orders you can deal with in as little time as possible. The more you serve, the more you earn - simple as that. This might sound easy but it's not when people are asking you to prepare ingredients for plates ranging from burgers to lasagna. Hunting down the ingredients is actually one of the hardest parts of the game and you'll spend half your time going through every cupboard and storage space until you've found them. The fun thing is that as you progress through the levels, the restaurants and kitchens change so it never gets too boring. The challenge is that people start demanding increasingly complex dishes in increasingly less time!

A great game that will have Dinner Dash fans addicted for hours.

In Turbo Subs sandwiches are the name of the game int he city that never sleeps - New York.

In Turbo Subs you are the waitresses and your mission is to serve as many customers as possible using your mouse. To take an order, click on the customer and then you have to relay the order to the kitchen and then you click back on the customer. If he or she is satisfied with their service, you earn a succulent tip which is the game's scoring system. However - that's not your only problem. There are also frequent raids by thieves trying to steal cash from the till and all your tips. You have to fight these off whilst at the same time, coming up with new and interesting sauces to in crease your customer satisfaction and thus tips. The game features cool cartoon style graphics and some catch melodies to help you along your way. It is however a little bit boring as there's not much variation other than taking and relaying orders.

A nice little game but could have been improved by adding more challenging roles such as managing the restaurant or even cooking the food.

There are already some recipes included in Grocery List Generator, but I found it pretty annoying to discover that they're not complete. Also, the program's interface had a quite erratic behavior during tests. Overall, I think it's a very useful app –as long as you have enough patience to enter all of your recipes manually.

Just imagine hiring a wedding planner to organise the biggest day of your life only to lose them and be forced to do the whole thing yourself. Well, that's what happened to the dozy bride in the backdrop to this game by the creators of the awesome Dinner Dash. Your task is to take care of the event, choosing a menu for the wedding before sorting out all of the guests once it starts.

Once you've sorted out the line-up for the wedding, the game plays in a very similar way to Dinner Dash. Armed with your mouse, you need to seat the guests in the quickest time possible, ensuring that they're placed in the seat they want next to the people they prefer. Then it's time to serve the food in a frenzied environment and make sure that no one goes without. The action is as fast-paced as Dinner Dash and the cartoon graphics and fun sound make it an enjoyable romp. However, the longevity of Wedding Dash is questionable, since it can get pretty repetitive after a while.
