Your character is alone, stranded on an island after his crew was infected by a zombie virus. Battle your way past your dead crew members to find the story and cure for the zombie virus.

Dead Meets Lead is a simple game with a simple battle system. You will carry two weapons: a melee and ranged weapon like a sword and rifle. Work your way around levels by battling hordes of zombies who want to rip you apart. The combo system of Dead Meets Lead is intuitive. You fill up your "rage" meter by killing more and more zombies. You can perform a "slam" attack by clicking the right mouse button, which deals massive damage while stunning enemies around you.

The game play in Dead Meets Lead may become boring after a while, as you find yourself hacking and slashing the same type of enemies over and over again. If you're a fan of dungeon crawling games like Diablo III, then Dead Meets Lead may appeal to you, though Diablo has more variation.

Graphics are good, but not amazing. The game runs smoothly, even on older hardware. Unfortunately there's no co-op or multiplayer mode so Dead Meets Lead is a solitary affair.

Overall, Dead Meets Lead is a fun game with a compelling battle system but some players may tire of its repetitive gameplay.

With Diablo III, we feel that Blizzard has made something that will please fans and newcomers alike. Diablo fans will be right at home from the start, with familiar controls and gameplay, while it is an extremely easy game to get into too.

Atmospheric

Diablo III's graphical style is what you would expect from Blizzard, with well defined cartoon-like graphics that are full of detail. It's very atmospheric, and the environment looks great, with some nice touches like crows flying up out of trees as you pass. Diablo III does a great job of evoking a dark fantasy land without being so dark you can't see properly. Menus are all well designed and each of the five player classes look really good.

Gameplay

Once you've created your Diablo III Hero, from the usual character classes, you are dropped right into New Tristram, a town that has just suffered a meteor strike that has resulted in the dead rising and attacking. This sets you up on a mission to find Deckhard Cain, who is trapped in the Cathedral. The action role playing gameplay is really compelling, and developing your heroes powers and ablities as you get experience is satisfying.

One common criticism of Diablo's hack and slash gameplay is that it is a mouse click-a-thon. That has not changed, and you'll either love it or loath it.

Multiplayer

You can make your Diablo III game public, which means other players online will be able to drop into your game and join in with your quest. It's easy to do, and playing in teams feels natural when you're facing hordes of hell beasts! We have yet to play the player versus player mode.

Your task in Pirates of Black Cove is to become the 'King of the Pirates'. The gameplay will revolve around light-RPG style questing, which you do to increase your standing among pirates, and real time casual naval battles. You will have to manage your Stronghold, which adds a kind of Sim City layer to the game. There will also be land-lubber Diablo-style combat amongst the coastal towns.

The mix of gameplay is what makes Pirates of Black Cove most interesting, and it's fun cartoon style graphics also look really good. The game is set in an open world, which gives you lots of opportunity to find side missions and play the game your own way. The biggest fear for Pirates of Black Cove is that it's too generic, and lacking in a strong enough storyline to keep players interested.

Pirates of Black Cove is shaping up to be an interesting mix of gameplay styles, and looks ideal for casual gamers.

This action RPG is a Diablo-like game, which will see you creating a squad of genetic warriors to battle the Darkspore. Creating unique genetic warriors looks like one of Darkspore's more interesting features, and as well as the single player campaign there will be online player versus player matches too.

While most games like this are dungeon based, Darkspore's sci-fi world looks much more like Starcraft, and each world you find while hunting the Darkspore will have unique flora and fauna. Before you land on a new world, the Darkspore will be scanned so you can prepare your squad tactically to take advantages of any weaknesses.

While the Diabloesque action gameplay should make for a lot of fun, it's the Spore-like creature creation and evolution that make it interesting. Where as Will Wright's creation game took a promising idea but then failed to really make good use of it, Darkspore could be much more successful.

Mixing creature creation with action RPG gameplay makes Darkspore something to watch out for. The developers are promising accessible gameplay with an AI director, as seen in Left 4 Dead. Torchlight is an action-RPG, much like the classic genre defining game Diablo.

Unlike that grim, dark game, Torchlight has a comic-like style and while the gameplay itself is very similar, the feel is much lighter. It's not gory at all, making it much more suitable for younger players.

You begin by choosing one of three types of character - hunter, warrior or alchemist - and then set off on your journey. The formula is nothing new - talk to people, get quests, head into dungeons to complete them, while battling off various beasts along the way. If you don't enjoy RPGs, you won't like Torchlight either, but it's very well done. One innovation is your pet - you can choose a pet to take with you on your journey, which follows you around, and helps out in battle.

Controls are really simple, just point and click for movement, and left click to use weapons, right to use magic attacks. It's really easy to pick up. This means your time in Torchlight is going to involve a lot of click, click, clicking. Despite these very simple mechanics, it's really easy to get drawn into the exploration, fighting and questing.

Torchlight is a very cliched action RPG, but what it does it does very well, and is very accessible for newcomers to the genre.

Kivi's Underworld is an isometric hack-and-slash action game that takes you into a dark subterranean world full of skeletons and other fantasy creatures. If you've seen the game Diablo, or its sequel, you'll recognize the action here.

Taking control of Kivi, you must explore dungeons, solve simple puzzles and fight of hordes of monsters. The controls are really simple, mouse movement, with a normal and strong attack, plus three special attacks. Attacking enemies is just a case of clicking on them - sometimes a lot. Compared to the great combat system in the recent DS Legend of Zelda game, it feels basic, and it's a pain having to attack creatures one at a time when they are surrounding you! It can become a clicking frenzy.

Graphically Kivi's Underworld is nothing wonderful, and you can extend that to most things about it. As a fantasy game, it's fairly unoriginal and there's nothing new about it. At the same time, there's nothing very wrong with it. If you want to spend the odd 30 minutes hacking and slashing, this will do.

We found Kivi's Underworld's combat a little unsatisfying: It could do with a bit more grunt, and you can easily find yourself heavily outnumbered. There are difficulty levels, however, though this can't help the dark graphics sometimes becoming a confusing mess of attacking monsters.

Kivi's Underworld is an average and generic fantasy hack and slash, with no features that make it stand out from the pack.

We're in the 22nd century and the human race is in trouble. This is the main setting of Space Siege, an interesting mixture between RPG and action games.

Space Siege creates a dark, oppressive atmosphere inside the last surviving spaceship after the massacre that wiped out the Earth. You're the only one capable of confronting and defeating the Kerak, the invading alien race. For this reason you'll be assigned several different missions in Space Siege, in which you'll have to explore unknown areas, collect mechanical parts and kill loads and loads of enemies.

The graphics in Space Siege are excellent, especially as regards light and shadow effects. The space environment somehow reminds me of the Alien series: a gloomy spaceship full of dangerous creatures in which you need to explore in constant tension.

As for gameplay, Space Siege is played very much like role-playing adventures: you use the mouse for everything (moving, killing, interacting with objects…) and use keyboard to change perspective. It's somewhat hard to get used to it, especially if you come from action games, but the worst is definitely having to repeatedly click on an enemy in order to kill it.

Space Siege is an original and attractive mixture of action and RPG elements, set in a gloomy space atmosphere.

Avencast: Rise of the Mage tells the story of a young boy who's preparing himself in an Academy to be the best mage in the world… rings you a bell?

No, the mage's name is not Harry and the Academy is not Hogwarts. Despite any initial similarities, Avencast is quite a different game, more in the style of classical videogames such as Diablo or Neverwinter Nights. Just like these, Avencast mixes an RPG-style adventure with action-packed combats in real time, providing you with an entertaining title that will challenge your different skills.

This means that you'll need to be lethally quick in battles against all kinds of nasty supernatural creatures, but also rack your brains in order to solve a bunch of puzzles and riddles which will in turn give you access to new sections in the game. Also, there are loads of new weapons and spells to improve your character as you progress along the game. Sadly the number of available levels in the demo is too short to experience the game at its fullest, but at least you can get a glimpse of it.

Avencast features highly detailed graphics and a overhead perspective you can adjust with the mouse. Also, there are three different ways to control your characters (varying in camera position and avatar movement) so that you feel as comfortable as possible.

Avencast: Rise of the Mage provides you with an entertaining mixture of magic, action, roleplaying and real-time that combats that challenges both your dexterity and your brains.

SilverFall is a new role playing game that follows the steps of the great classic Diablo, featuring a good gameplay, a detailed story and high quality graphics.

Choose your character and lead it up along experience levels. You'll confront more and more powerful enemies, fight in hand-to-hand combats, use range weapons or make use of magics in order to achieve your goal. Also, the control system is fast to learn and easy to use, as it is mainly mouse-based.
