From the very beginning, speed was what defined Sonic against Nintendo's Mario, and Sonic Generations has a ton of that. Whether in 2 or 3D, Sonic Generations is really fast - but to get the best experience, you have to learn the levels. Inexperienced players will find the adrenalin rush interrupted by enemies and obstacles - learning through failure is how Sonic Generations works. If you find repeating levels irritating, Sonic is simply not for you!

Sonic Generations looks fantastic throughout. the presentation is great, and the animation and environments have never been better. This is one of the best Sonic games for many years, and avoids most of the pitfalls of some of his worst games! Fans will love it, and there is hardly a better introduction to the high speed platform thrills of a Sonic game.

Try out the free demo from Steam, which gives you a 'classic' 2D level and and excellent over the top 3D level to play through. Both need practice to perfect, so it's well worth downloading.

Platform games were introduced to speed by Sega's Sonic, but while he's away from the 2D arena, Tom Sennet and Matt Thorson have introduced RunMan: Race Around the World.

Runman is a little yellow dude who's only passion is running as fast as possible, and in RunMan: Race Around the World he'll do exactly that. Through 6 worlds and over 35 levels you'll meet some bizarre monsters and obstacles while achieving over the top velocities.

With crayon-like 'crude' (in the developer's words) graphics, great old music that has lapsed into the public domain and a completely silly story, RunMan: Race Around the World is irreverent and tons of fun. The controls are really simple, but the way RunMan interacts with the environment adds layers of complexity to the levels. RunMan is indestructible, but as everything is timed you'll want to find the fastest way through all the mayhem to record a top time.

RunMan: Race Around the World can be played in windowed or full screen mode, you can save 'ghosts' of good times, so you can race yourself and the whole soundtrack in available in the OGGs folder when you unzip the game. Visit the game's homepage and you can find other people's ghosts too.

Sonic Games lacks basic functions, like pause, but at least the game's frame is resizable. The idea of a collection of Sonic Games is really nice, but it's a pity that the playability is as good in the original MegaDrive version and that the graphics are so scarce.
They would probably be still enjoyable on mobile devices, but on Windows, the Sonic Games experience ends up being pretty boring.

If you are a fan of Sonic, you might want to have this set of Sonic Games for Windows, but mainly for collection purposes rather than to play with them as both graphics and playability are pretty poor.

Gibbage is a cartoon Deathmatch game, set over 27 varied arenas, including zombie-infested hospitals, atop speeding trains and inside alien beasts.

Gibbage is an incredibly simple concept. Each player is spawned from their Power Booth, with a perpetually-draining Power Level of 200. Your ultimate goal is to reduce your opponent’s Power Level to zero, thereby winning control of the arena.
To do this, you run around collecting the randomly spawned Power Cubes (up to three at a time), and returning them to your Power Booth. Doing so increases your Power Level, and reduces your opponent’s.

Naturally, as the Power Cubes are in short supply you’ll have to stop the other team getting there first. This is where the ‘gib’ part of Gibbage comes in — you’ll need your wits about you as you leap and swing about the arena trying to kill your opponent with well-timed bombs or your itchy trigger-finger.

To help you get the edge over your opponent, there are several powerups available. These range from devastating new weapons to cheap bullet-time effects and Sonic the Hedgehog style speedy boots.

Once again you take control of the speedy hedgehog Sonic and it is up to you to save the likes of little bunnies and penguins from the evil clutches of Dr Robotnik.

Sonic Zone really is a lot of fun to play, and for the small download, it really delivers good gameplay and a few hours of fun.
