Folder Lock is a really flexible program and offers much more than just locking folders. You can also create virtual encrypted Wallets, for storing things like addresses and bank data, and also back up all of your encrypted data to the cloud. Folder Lock's configuration settings are also comprehensive and, obviously enough, password protected.

Overall opinion

Folder Lock is a great program. There are lots of free folder locking apps out there, but not many have the multiple features and ease of use of this one. Download it and give it a try - we think you'll like it.

The main part of the suite is Norman Antivirus & Antispyware, which is designed to recognize, block and remove viruses, trojans, worms and other nasties. It's not difficult to set this up, but its performance while running isn't particularly impressive. It runs lots of processes, consumes a lot of system resources, and the scanning engine isn't the best either. That's not to say it doesn't work though, and Norman Antivirus & Antispyware is able to pick up the vast majority of threats out there.

Besides this rather average antivirus solution, Norman Security Suite also features a personal firewall and a parental controls tool. The firewall is very easy to configure, thanks to its intelligent wizard-driven set-up tool, which can be tailored for experts or non-experts. The software is very flexible and gives you a lot of control over rules, so you dictate access permissions in a very precise manner.

The Parental Controls app also works around rules. You can customize filters that will prevent people of a certain age from accessing pornography, violent content and other dubious material online. Again, this is really easy to hook up, thanks to the wizard system.

Norman Security Suite offers an easy way to protect your computer from some of the hazards of having an internet connection. It will put a bit of a strain on your system though.

The interface in McAfee AntiVirus Plus has been completely redesigned and is totally different to any other antivirus interface you may have seen so far. A clear, uncluttered design makes McAfee AntiVirus Plus easy to use, and also lets you check security status at a glance – though it can be difficult to get used to at first.

However, the effectiveness of RemoveIT is open to debate. The developers claim that it's so good, it "locates and removes many new dangerous files including spyware, malware, virus, worms, trojans and adware that other popular AV programs do not find." RemoveIT therefore is NOT a real-time scanner - it's based on cleaning-up after something has installed itself on your PC rather than real-time protection which I always think is a dangerous approach.

There's nothing flashy about RemoveIT - the interface is based on Windows Explorer shell which also includes a slightly more advanced and expanded version of Windows Task Manager (to stop and block illegal processes) and the same with a Service Manager which gives you an overview of the services and program currently running on your PC. The Services Manager in RemoveIT is recommended for beginners as you can see clearly the actual names of the programs running while the Process Manager only shows those files that are running as parts of programs and as a result, you may shut something down that you didn't mean to.

For a free and light malware scanner, RemoveIT is a solid program although it does not seem to detect anything that other scanners (such as Ad-Aware) can't so it's maybe not as effective as the developers claim.
