Get Tube 6.1

There are tons of tools out there for downloading YouTube videos within your browser, but Get Tube is one of the more frustrating ones I've used.

Get Tube works independently of your browser in a separate YouTube-only browsing window and is designed specifically for Macs. It can save into FLV, MP4, AVI, MP3 and HD format where possible - so far so good. However, using Get Tube can be an absolute pain. The theory is, you search for a video in YouTube and hit the 'Download' button in the bottom-right corner of the interface and that's it. Using the Preferences in the top-left corner of your screen, you can also specify where you want to save files, the format and whether to save HD where possible, and check for automatic updates.

In reality though, when you click 'Download', half the time you get an error message saying no video is found. This error message seems to be random and some videos work while others don't. Secondly, you have no control over the application once it's started downloading. There's no way to pause downloads or even click on another YouTube video to watch while you are downloading. I couldn't even quit the program and had to go into Activity Monitor to force-quit it while downloading. However, Get Tube remains an awfully popular download on the Net, albeit with many people reporting mixed results. The message seems to be, this app works successfully for some users and not for others.

Get Tube either isn't functioning very well or hasn't been tested properly. To save yourself a lot of headaches, I'd recommend using something like <taglink type="program" country="en" id="74822">Video DownloadHelper</taglink> which not only works properly, but it works directly in Firefox too.

Download Get Tube 6.1 in Softonic

Kinemac 1.8.3

Kinemac is a 3D Real Time Animation & Presentation Software for Mac OS X. It allows you to create your own professional 3D Animations with the simplicity of a 2D presentation tool. See the animations in our Gallery.

Just drag your images, texts, movies and songs onto the Kinemac stage to get them into your animation. Kinemac allows you to apply images and movies onto the ready–to-use objects like cubes, cylinders, spheres, tubes, pies, rectangles, disks... which you can easily animate by setting key frames. Also, it lets you quickly create 3D Text and 2D scrolling text (RTF and RTFD) with any kind of font, color, size, shadows, embedded images...

A powerful animation control system based on Bezier curves allows you to carefully control any aspect of the movement such as translations, rotations, resizing, fading, speed, acceleration and deceleration of any object on the stage. The result is a professional and smooth animation which you can play in Real-Time/Full-Screen or export to a QuickTime movie file.

Kinemac uses the latest technologies like the OpenGL engine, QuickTime and the Cocoa frameworks, making it the ideal application to create Advertising for TV, trailers for movies, video-clips, instant scrolling messaging to put "on air" in real time, video content for CD, DVD, web sites... Also it has been said "awesome" to illustrate concepts through 3D animations at conferences, schools and universities. Kinemac is for Mac OS X only.

Download Kinemac 1.8.3 in Softonic

MyTube Widget 1.1

MyTube makes all of YouTube accessible directly from a TV shaped widget on your Dashboard. We were impressed with the number of options to search and browse through videos, thanks to the drop down menus at the bottom of the interface. Look at the most recent, most downloaded or most played videos and search through specific categories.

Videos will appear in a list with a small preview screen. While we found that it generally skipped too fast, there was no slowing down when looking through videos. Another advantage of the MyTube widget is that you can open up videos in your browser or in the widget itself. We were positively surprised by the quality of playback in the widget. MyTube also include all the basic playback functions and you can export chosen videos straight to your iTunes, to then play on your iPod.

MyTube is an excellent widget to search, browse and view YouTube videos from your Dashboard.

Download MyTube Widget 1.1 in Softonic

Plasma Tube - Motion Light Widget 1.0

Even though motion lights are a remnant of the 60s, some people still enjoy having these psychedelic decorations around. This widget gives a little trippy feeling to your Dashboard.

The widget has pretty smooth animations and great color. We also liked how you could choose from up to 8 different tube colors.
What this widget seems to be lacking is the ability to change the color of the light.

You're stuck with this fluorescent green, which looks great, but can get boring after a while. If you're into this type of decoration, Motion Light Widget will be a perfect addition to your desktop.

Download Plasma Tube - Motion Light Widget 1.0 in Softonic
