FotoMagico is a powerful but fun tool for allowing you to create professional slideshows from your photos and music in just a few mouse clicks.

FotoMagico has a very easy-to-use and slick interface, which enables high quality images to be arranged into stunning presentations. Once you've selected the photos you want to use, you can scale, move, rotate, zoom or pan around your images in order to highlight the most important aspects of your presentation. There are lots of transitions to choose from which are especially suited to large displays, HDTV screens and even VGA projectors.

You can opt to burn DVDs of your slideshows, although the developer recommends using Roxio Toast for this. In addition, you can transfer them to your iPod or export them to QuickTime. Most recently, FotoMagico has been updated to integrate much better with iPhoto. So for example, iPhoto libraries of photos show up correctly instead of a generic icon in FotoMagico.

The only thing FotoMagico really lacks is advanced options for tailoring your slideshow. Some of these are available in the Pro version although that's obviously more expensive.

FotoMagico is a very powerful package for creating stunning photo presentations.

Download FotoMagico 4.2.1 in Softonic

You don't have to go searching through your files, you don't have to worry about how your folders are arranged. For many, Quicksilver was a godsend in the pre-Spotlight Mac era. Although it's lost some of its importance with the new powerful search and Finder features in Leopard it still remains very much an excellent Mac application.

The search function is very quick and powerful and once you've found what you're looking for you can apply a number of actions like simply launching it, emailing or moving. What's more Quicksilver adapts to the file it finds, so if it's a document you'll get to modify or send it, and if it's an email you'll get to email or copy it. Quicksilver users also like the fact that the application learns from what you search to bring up what you search for or use most.

Quicksilver wouldn't be what it is without its large library of plugins though. This includes everything from dialing a phone number to interacting with iTunes or image and text manipulation. This means you can really customize the application to work according to your needs.

The only downside is the stability issues that Quicksilver seems to have. The application is noted to crash every once in a while.

Despite this stability issue, Quicksilver remains an incredibly intuitive and powerful multi-application launcher for Mac. Recommended for productivity geeks.

Download Quicksilver 1.0 b71 in Softonic

But one day you may want to transfer songs back from your iPod or iPhone to your Mac. Frustratingly, with iTunes you can't do so, which is why Senuti was invented.

Senuti could be useful to transfer music after a hard drive crash, the purchase of a new computer or just to move music between computers. When your iPod or iPhone is connected, Senuti instantly lists all the songs and playlists that it can detect. It can automatically add songs to your iTunes library or you can define a folder for them to go into. If you are worried about duplicates, Senuti displays a small blue dot next to every song you already have in your library.

The first thing that strikes you is the simplicity of the interface followed by the speed of Senuti. It uses a small file known as 'iTunesDB' on your iPod or iPhone device to rapidly extract every bit of essential information for every song and playlist. In addition, it supports simple dragging and dropping of both music and playlists, which will not only copy songs to your computer and add them to iTunes, but will make a new playlist with the same name and add all of the songs to that list.

Some users have complained of instability issues but I experienced no such problems. Senuti detected my iPod's songs instantly and transfers to iTunes were extremely quick.

Senuti offers a quick and simple way of transferring songs and playlists from your iPod or iPhone to your Mac.

Download Senuti 1.2.7 in Softonic

Music Manager by Google 1.0.35.1577

Music Manager is a desktop app that compliments Google's new Music Beta cloud-based storage system.

Uploading songs to your Music Beta library on an individual basis can be a serious drag, as well as a complete time-waster. Much like the 8tracks Uploader for Macs, Music Manager lets users easily and effectively transfer new songs to their Music Beta Library in no time at all.

You can tweak the settings on Music Manager to automatically upload new music it detects from iTunes or any other music storage app of your choosing. Alternatively, if you'd rather manually upload individual songs, Music Manager also has an option for that.

In addition to uploading songs, the app will also provide you with a list of songs it was unable to upload, as well as a reason as to why the upload didn't work. Unfortunately, if you do encounter an error in uploading, Music Manager doesn't actually suggest a solution. You might just be out of luck, which could be frustrating.

If you want an easy-to-use method of uploading songs to your Google Music Beta library however, Music Manager is the way to go.

Download Music Manager by Google 1.0.35.1577 in Softonic

Musictube is an easy to use music player that sources its tracks from YouTube.

If you love using YouTube to look up music to listen to, you're going to love this music player. Musictube offers a much more elegant solution than searching for different tracks individually on YouTube. Its interface is beautifully designed and will let you quickly search for artists and tracks.

When you play an artist in Musictube, the playlist will be populated with tracks by that artist. One of the best features of Musictube is the ability to switch between the live, studio, or cover of the currently playing song. You can also enable the video of the song to be played in a box on the bottom right. Musictube supports up to 1080p video. There is also a full screen mode that lets you enjoy your music distraction free.

In use, Musictube is very stable and launched quickly. While Musictube is beautifully designed and easy to use, it leaves much to be desired in terms of sound quality, which is to be expected. YouTube uploads don't usually have the best sound quality. It also would've been nice if Musictube included some music discovery tools.

This trial version of Musictube limits playlists to 10 tracks and doesn't support video.

Musictube is a well designed and easy to use YouTube music player although the sound quality and music discovery need improvement.

Download Musictube 1.1 in Softonic

Jaikoz Audio Tagger 4.5.3

Jaikoz Audio Tagger (formerly known as Jaikoz MP3 Tag Editor) is a tool for changing the meta-tags of your MP3 files. If these tags aren't created correctly, your music collection won't be organized as well as it could be.

The problem is that sometimes, no matter how hard you try, ID3 tags just won't edit for some reason or keep being removed, deleted or corrupted. Not to mention the fact that going through music files one by one is painfully slow. Jaikoz Audio Tagger aims to deal with such problems, by giving you the power to edit the ID3 tags of almost any file type (not just MP3s as the name suggests). Jaikoz MP3 Tag Tagger supports tagging of MP4, M4A, M4P, MP3, WMA, Flac and Ogg Vorbis files although the developer is constantly releasing new versions that support an ever increasing number of formats.

Jaikoz Audio Tagger doesn't necessarily require you to manually add data though. It uses MusicBrainz which is an online database of over seven million songs which have tags automatically attached to them by MusicIP, allowing a song to be identified by the actual music, so it can perform a match even if you have no metadata. This means that Jaikoz Audio Tagger can automatically tag songs as soon as they are loaded into the interface although as is to be expected, the success rate can be rather hit and miss. For those that aren't tagged correctly, you can manually edit them.

You can edit absolutely everything and even add fields such as the original song writer and mood of the song. Some of this is clearly not essential and it would take you at least five minutes to tag every song with all the available fields. The most impressive thing is the way Jaikoz Audio Tagger handles formats - it seems that no matter what you throw at it, it can edit it.

If your audio collection is incorrectly tagged or you've been struggling to edit your tracks, Jaikoz Audio Tagger is more than powerful enough for most of your needs.

Download Jaikoz Audio Tagger 4.5.3 in Softonic

The advantage of this is that all your songs have a rating, and it prevents you having to go through the tedious process of switching back and forth from iTunes and rating songs with iTunes dock menu.

In the top-right of your Mac's menu bar, you'll see the number of stars displayed, and if you click here you'll see the name of the song being played. Mainly it's there to show the rating but you can drag the stars rating with the mouse to highlight and deselect the number of stars you give it.

Senuti Free allows you to transfer songs from your iPod or iPhone to your Mac. Please note that this is a free version of the original Senuti which was distributed under the GNU GPL license before it became closed.

The creator of Senuti Free says: "The author of Senuti distributed copies of it for years under the GPL, which states: 'If you distribute copies of such a program, whether gratis or for a fee, you must pass on to the recipients the same freedoms that you received.

You must make sure that they, too, receive or can get the source code. And you must show them these terms so they know their rights.'" However, as a result of this you obviously won't receive any support from the developer of Senuti as the app has now moved to a paid model.

Senuti could be useful to transfer music after a hard drive crash, the purchase of a new computer or just to move music between computers. When your iPod or iPhone is connected, Senuti Free instantly lists all the songs and playlists that it can detect. It can automatically add songs to your iTunes library or you can define a folder for them to go into. If you are worried about duplicates, Senuti Free displays a small blue dot next to every song you already have in your library.

The first thing that strikes you is the simplicity of the interface followed by the speed of Senuti Free. However, Senuti can be unstable at times and because this is an open source version of the app, there are no fixes or support for such problems. If you experience too many problems with Senuti Free, you're highly advised to download the paid version of Senuti instead which offers regular support and fixes.

Senuti Free offers a quick and simple way of transferring songs and playlists from your iPod or iPhone to your Mac.

Download Senuti Free 0.52 in Softonic

When you start Mixxx, it automatically scans your music library for audio files which is a bit annoying because you don't get any choice over it. You have to wait for this to finish before you can get stuck into Mixxx but it's worth the wait.

Mixxx is complete but not too complicated for the aspiring DJ. There's plenty of documentation for those that do get stuck but there's nothing more to it than browsing to your music library and selecting two songs to use - one for the left and right decks. The crossfader is in the middle of the deck for manual control but you can let Mixxx take control with it's auto-syncing option. This tries to measure the BPM's of each song and can result in some weird results but it's impressive.

For professionals, you can add external devices such as CD players and vinyl decks. To use the rest of the controls you'll have to know something about mixing decks and how they work.

Mixxx is an excellent simple mixing decks for anyone that's having a party or wants to get going as a DJ - best of all it's completely free.

Download Mixxx 1.9.0 in Softonic

Vox (formerly known as ToolPlayer) is a simple media player that will play your music without all the fuss of importing into iTunes, database lookups, album art displays, playlist editors, etc.

If you've grown tired of all the big bloated players, then Vox will probably appeal. It's very basic and fast but at the same time, it does offer basic features, such as indexing and sorting of playlists. To play a music file - and Vox supports a huge array of formats - simply browse to it using Vox and off you go.

The nice thing about the app is that, if you're trying to listen to a whole album, Vox will automatically detect that the song you are loading is the first track of the album and load the rest of them at the same time - far more intuitive than even VLC Player for playing music.

Other than that, there isn't a great deal more to Vox, apart from the graphic equalizer that allows you to refine your output slightly. This also allows you to add a few effects such as reverb, echo and distortion that you'll probably never use anyway.

There's now also Growl support for Vox and an added bonus is you can scrobble music to your Last.fm account if you've got one. The lack of a decent playlist editor may frustrate you but for what it's designed as - a lightweight media player, Vox is very good.

If iTunes and Spotify aren't your thing or you just want something light and easy on your old Mac, Vox hits all the right notes.

Download Vox 0.2.8 Beta 2 in Softonic

8tracks Uploader lets you click and drag music to automatically update your 8tracks account.

Remember the days before MP3 players, where people would make mix tapes or CDs when they wanted some variety in their musical lives? 8tracks brings back the memories with a simple but addictive idea that lets users create their own playlists and share with others.

If you have a Mac, it's even easier to create playlists with 8tracks Uploader. 8tracks Uploader has a simple interface and is just as easy to use. Just open up your iTunes library, click and drag from there to the 8tracks Uploader. You'll have to have an account set up on the 8tracks online interface, but once logged in, your songs are just a simple click away from being uploaded.

Unfortunately, to actually create an 8tracks playlist, you need to hop over to the website and build your song list from there. 8tracks Uploader's sole purpose it to let you upload multiple songs at once onto the 8tracks - compiling the playlists is a separate action. Perhaps in future versions, 8tracks Uploader will let you create the actual playlists right from your desktop.

8tracks also has an app available for your iPhone that lets you listen to great mixed music on the go.

8tracks Uploader is a simple and easy way to upload music to your online 8tracks account and start churning out some great playlists.

Download 8tracks Uploader 0.90 in Softonic

Imagine if you could take any part from any song in iTunes and turn it into a ring tone for your iPhone.

Well, you can do exactly that very easily with Ringer. Ringer is fully integrated with iTunes so that as soon as you open it, you can access your collection. Simply select the song you want to convert and Ringer will process the track in just a few seconds. It then displays the track in waveform, which you can edit and cut. Select the part of the song that you want to use as a ringtone, whether you want to fade-in and fade-out and click 'Preview'.

When you're happy with the result, click 'Create' and you're done! In this demo, Ringer creates a marker noise at the beginning of the ringtone, which you can remove by paying for a license. There are a few useful additions to Ringer too worth mentioning. If your ringtone features a quiet part of a track, Ringer will auto-adjust the tone volume so that it's audible enough on your iPhone. You can also control the time delay between rings.

As slick as Ringer is, however, the cost of buying a license is inevitably going to put some people off. You can do exactly the same thing with any basic audio editor - including GarageBand - albeit, not quite as easily.

However, for the modest license fee and the convenient integration with iTunes, Ringer provides an extremely easy way to create your own custom iPhone ringtones.

Download Ringer 1.1.7 in Softonic

Labeling your MP3s correctly is essential if you're going to have any order to your music collection at all but Simple Tagger goes a long way to solving that problem.

If you're tired of having disorderly music collection then you'll need to use a tag editor such as Simple Tagger to help spruce things up. Changing the names of files simply isn't enough - tags are the identifier that most music apps now use to identify a music file or MP3. The great thing about Simple Tagger is that it utilizes the Amazon.com database to make sure that your songs are tagged correctly.

Simply go to Amazon, type the name of the musician or artist you're looking for. Then, in your music folder, drag the album cover into the right column of Simple Tagger and it will automatically detect the artist and create the right tag for you - you don't need to write a thing. Simple Tagger is very fast to use and an ingenious idea although it doesn't always tag songs correctly and some albums you won't be able to find if they're obscure.

Easy to use and amazingly quick, Simple Tagger takes the pain out of organizing your music collection instantly.

Download Simple Tagger 1.3 in Softonic

mSpot 1.2.33

mSpot is a music cloud service that offers easy access to your entire music collection synced across smartphones and PCs/Macs. Unlike music streaming services such as Spotify, mSpot allows you to upload and stream only your own music that's already stored on your hard drive.

It works via a simple upload client that automatically uploads your iTunes library or folders of your choice. Up to 2GB of music is stored for free and then there is a progressive storage scale fee after that. Your music is automatically synced to your mobile device such as Android mobile (but not iPhones). The actual mSpot player however is only available in your browser - once you've signed up for an mSpot account, use the login details to sign into the mSpot website and you can manage your music collection.

From there you can control which songs sync to mSpot, create new playlists, or explore other album info such as song lyrics. mSpot requires you to download the mobile client to allow syncing and progressively downloads music to your phone so that interruptions in your network connection don't affect listening. You can also set the buffer limit so that mSpot doesn't end up hogging all the hard drive space on your phone.

The main problem I found with mSpot however was that uploading of my iTunes library was very slow. Once I'd logged into mSpot and opened iTunes, I expected mSpot to upload the library automatically and instantly but it wasn't the case. An upload icon animates in your Menu Bar when your iTunes library is uploading but the process seems to take forever.

If you have some patience and an Android phone, then mSpot could be a valuable streaming tool but with other streaming options such as Spotify on the market and a lack of iPhone support, it has a long way to go yet.

Download mSpot 1.2.33 in Softonic

PodWorks 2.9.6

PodWorks allows you to copy songs from any Mac iPod to any Mac running OS X 10. 2 or higher (including Panther). Its important features include:

Superior performance
Many other standalone iPod song transfer utilities work by reading ID3 data out of every song on the iPod--a slow process.

PodWorks, by contrast, is capable of reading directly from the iPod's internal database, resulting in nearly instantaneous display of all metadata.

More metadata
Since PodWorks can read from the iPod's internal database, it can also display and sort by song "metadata" not available through ID3 (including "Date Added" and "Play Count").

iTunes integration
In addition to copying songs to the Finder, PodWorks can send songs, playlists (registered version only), and metadata (star ratings, play counts, track numbers, etc.

) directly to iTunes. It can also filter its song list to show you only the songs on the iPod that are not present in your iTunes library.

iTunes-like sorting and searching
PodWorks is designed so that its data columns sort intelligently, the same way they do in iTunes.

For example, the "Artist" column sorts first by artist, then by album, then by disc number, then by track number. Additionally, it features an iTunes-style "type-ahead" search to enable quick access to specific songs.

Playlists
PodWorks recognizes your iPod's playlists. Entire playlists can be copied to your computer with a single drag (registered version only).

On-The-Go Playlist support
Very handy for people who don't want to use the automatic syncing in iTunes but still want to save their On-The-Go playlists.

Song Playback
PodWorks allows you to preview songs before you copy them by playing them directly off the iPod.

Strong organizational capabilities
Copying large numbers of files can get messy, so PodWorks can sort MP3 files into directories and change their filenames according to your preferences.

Portability
PodWorks can be placed on your iPod for convenient access away from your home computer. It will work when run off the iPod, and will remember its registration information even when connected to a previously unknown machine.

Download PodWorks 2.9.6 in Softonic

Rhyme Genie 3.3

Have you ever tried to write a poem or a song and been stuck for a word that rhymes?

Rhyme Genie is designed to help you find that missing word to make your poem or song complete. It features over 30 different rhyme types, over 300,000 entries and includes 170,000 phrases, 35,000 proper nouns and 48,000 titles of charted songs according to the developers. It's ideal for anyone that wants to create song hooks, advertising slogans, headlines and titles by searching for phonetic similarities or exact word matches.

Note that you must drag and install the Rhyme Genie folder to your Applications folder as running it from the Disk Image means it won't work properly. When it opens, click Demo Mode and you can start searching for words. Just type the word you'd like to rhyme in the dialog box at the top and Rhyme Genie will instantly deliver words of up to four syllables that rhyme with it.

The number of returns is impressive. For example, for the word "Software" I got about 30 results including "airfare, fanfare, class warfare, legionnaire, go on welfare and no thoroughfare". There were no returns for one syllable although the word itself is two syllables so that's a bit much to expect anyway. I can see that the great thing about Rhyme Genie is that it sparks your imagination in areas that you normally wouldn't have considered, and of course reveals words you'd probably never even thought of.

In the full version, you can also see Adjectives, Verbs, Adverbs and Nouns but in this demo you can only see a three second preview of each of these category before it switches back to Syllables. I like the way that Rhyme Genie conveniently orders words and the interface is generally easy to use although I found switching views could have been made easier.

Rhyme Genie is an excellent tool for anyone with writers block or who needs a little help sparking their imagination with a story or rhyme.

Download Rhyme Genie 3.3 in Softonic

Extracting music isn't is easy as it should be from your iPod. Apple have done their best to ensure that it can be a real pain.

If you want to extract your music while on the road or want to take some of your friend's music from their pod, this can be really annoying. Or what about if you simple want to restore music that you've accidentally deleted or lost on your hard drive? Pod Manager is a simple and effective tool for all these scenarios and it works with the minimum of fuss and effort.

Pod Manager has a slick and simple Cocoa interface that's very self explanatory. Once you've plugged in your iPod open Pod Manager to get started. Pod Manager may take a while to compile all of your music by title, artist and album but when its done, you'll have access to all of your music. Simply select the MP3 and MP4 files you'd like to extract remembering to hold down the CMD key for multiple selections.

Once you've done that, just click "Copy Selected Songs to disk" button and your music will transfer to your hard drive ready for importing into iTunes. It couldn't really be much simpler and that's the beauty of this tool although if you've got a large collection, be prepared for quite a wait while Pod Manager retrieves and then transfers your music.

If you're intimidated by complicated iPod management tools, give Pod Manager a go and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Download Pod Manager X 2.2.1 in Softonic

In contrast to more complicated programs like kJams, TunePrompter makes creating your own Karaoke videos an absolute cinch.

Best of all, its absolutely free and a pleasure to use. It is supposed to be designed for use with Griffin Technologies iKaraoke hardware which unfortunately, is discontinued. However, there's absolutely nothing to stop you creating your videos, exporting them to iPod, iPhone, QuickTime or AppleTV format (which TunePrompter automatically does for you) and then burning the results to disc.

Once you've opened TunePrompter simply load your Karaoke track which can be in MP3 format. Then, use the "Search Lyrics" tool to automatically search the web for the right lyrics. Paste them into TunePrompter and then click "Sync Lyrics". You then have to listen to the music and tap the spacebar at the right tempo with the lyrics. Once you're done, go to Preferences, select the format you want to export to and you're done!

The only drawback is that you need Karaoke tracks of your favorite songs to load into TunePrompter. It's obviously no good loading in the original MP3 because the real vocals will drown-out yours!

TunePrompter is about as easy as it gets when it comes to creating your own Karaoke videos.

Download TunePrompter 1.1 in Softonic
