Or worse, the codecs that you have are corrupt and don't playback properly. If you've found yourself in this situation then m5Studio Codec is a neat little package which brings together most of the most important codecs you'll need. m5Studio Codec includes all the major codecs you'll need to make sure that you'll never have problems playing a film again.

Among the codecs included in m5Studio Codec are DivX or XviD, Ogg Vorbis or Cinepak or AC3 plus some some lesser known ones such as CoreAVC and Fraunhoffer IIS. Installation is simply a matter of double clicking EXE file and you've got a few configuration controls to control exactly how you want the codecs to perform.

In fact, it used to be such a dreadful experience; few companies were up to the task.

DWebPro is a stand-alone web server developed specifically for distributing dynamic web sites (for example PHP/MySQL, ASP.Net/Ms Access) on CD or DVD without needing to rewrite the web site code. With DWebPro, your company can easily create CDs or DVDs demonstrating the amazing capabilities of your web site, all while never being connected to the Internet.

In fact, DWebPro is the only software program that natively supports so many server side languages for use on CD/DVD. It supports:

Mystery Island II 1.8

Mystery Island II is fun game that combines elements of puzzle games, adventure games and science fiction.

The plot is thus - you are a Navy Seal currently serving aboard the USS Volarus when your submarine is destroyed by an unidentified vessel, probably a Russian nuclear warship. You escape the final blast and wash up on a tropical island. That's where your adventure begins. It turns out that the world has been invaded by aliens and it's your job to find clues and save the world from an alien takeover.

The island is littered with clues that eventually guide you towards the final defeat of the aliens. The games can be anything from puzzles to codes you must crack and locations you must find. In this way, the game is very similar to Escape From Monkey Island except with less detail and worse graphics. In fact, the graphics are probably one of the biggest letdowns although considering this is a pretty cheap adventure game, you can't expect miracles anyway.

Likewise, the sound effects are passable and you can choose from a gently paced one to one that's a bit more racy. Everything is controlled by the mouse with left and right movements indicating the direction you want the character to go and you wave the cursor over an object to see if it can be picked up or used or not.

All in all, this is a decent attempt at an original adventure game and if only the developers had had a bit more money to invest in it, you can't help feeling that it would be so much better.

Download Mystery Island II 1.8 in Softonic

QuoteTracker links into various datafeeds, brokers and financial sites to provide you with real-time quotes, live intraday charts and quotes according to what stocks you need to track. If you're brave enough, you can even upgrade to allow a professional trader to use your stocks using the QuoteTracker interface. The program can be used to track most kind of stocks - from securities to stocks, options, indices, futures, FOREX/currencies, bonds and more. Be warned however - if you don't have any idea about stocks and shares then this is a hugely complicated program. The main interface is simply a mess of numbers and graphs that won't really mean anything to you unless you have some experience of the stock market. In which case, be very careful before upgrading and allowing a real broker to deal with your money. If the developers had actually provided more user info and instructions as how to use the program and understand stock markets, it would have been a lot more useful.

If you know what the stock markets are all about, and are not intimidated by huge numbers of rapidly changing figures and graphs, then you may find some use for QuoteTracker.

Download Medved QuoteTracker 3.9.1 in Softonic

While other editions of Street Fighter have often required extra emulators to run, as well as losing some of the feel of the original game, this one retains all the original gameplay and graphics, and all from just one file. You can even add a 'scan lines' effect by pressing Alt-4 or selecting the option in the Video menu.

With the Champion Edition you can choose between the eight original characters plus the four special ones you meet towards the end of your adventure: Balrog, Sagat, Vega and M. Bison. There are some mistakes here with the names as the Spanish fighter is Vega, the boxer Balrog and the captain M. Bison, but in this emulation, the names are all mixed-up.

To set the keys you prefer in order to play, go to the Option > Set Config > Controllers menu; at this point, choose '6btn Pad' in the Port1 line and click Define. Now press the keys you would like to use to jump, move right, left, punch and kick by following the direction you see at the bottom of the frame. Now you're all set to enjoy the tournament.

Revisit the action with your favorite characters from Street Fighter in this faithful version of the original Capcom game.

Download Street Fighter 2 Plus Champion Edition in Softonic

Like those good old arcades you used to play a few years ago, this game puts you in control of a spaceship in a vertically scrolling area where the aim is basically to kill anything that dares move in front of you.

While Astro Avenger includes many traditional elements of classical space games (the aforementioned vertical scrolling, enemy waves, lots of power-ups) it also takes advantage of current technology, mainly regarding graphics and special effects such as lasers, explosions and the likes.

What I specially liked about Astro Avenger II was the possibility to buy new weapons, shields and bots – or upgrade the ones you already have – after completing each level. On the downside, some stages are so enemy-packed you can hardly tell enemies from the background scenario.

Astro Avenger II is the kind of game when you just need some simple, easy fun: an amusing space invaders clone with loads of explosions and power-ups.

Download Astro Avenger II in Softonic

However, sometimes you find exceptions to the rule like Company of Heroes, an adventure set during the Second World War which all strategy lovers are going to enjoy.

The game enables you to play as the British army or the German Panzer Elite squad, in two of the most important battles in World War II. In spite of being a real-time strategy game, you're soon immersed into action-packed skirmishes and you really need to be quick if you want to beat your enemy. This is why we strongly recommend following the tutorial level instead plunging headlong into the campaign.

Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts features extraordinary graphics, plus the ability to pan and zoom the camera with total freedom. I specially enjoyed the possibility to set the camera at ground's level and see action as if you were right in the middle of the squadron.

Your aim is simply to move a red ball towards a star and collect it by drawing geometrical shapes that push the ball.

Yes, I know it sounds silly, but I assure you Crayon Physics is not as easy as it seems. The ball and all shapes that you draw with the help of your mouse (suddenly turned into a crayon) follow physics laws very strictly, which means that you have to calculate sizes and positions very carefully if you're to achieve your objective.

The game gets really difficult after a few levels, but unfortunately there's no way to jump to the last level you completed so you'll have to go over all of them any time you play the game again. Oh well, I guess this is something we can forgive, bearing in mind that the game was created in just five days.

Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare

Call of Duty has established itself as one of the greatest game series ever. With consistently improving graphics and AI, one of the only real criticisms it has faced of late was the repetitive nature of its setting. World War II is a fascinating, multi-theatre world for games to approach in many ways: but how about something different? Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the answer to that request. This game plunges you head-first into a present-day battlefield, even more fast-paced than its predecessors.

This demo offers you one mission from the full version of the game, where you play Sergeant Paul Jackson, of the US Marines. You're dispatched to save a tank which has become waylaid during its mission against a rebel leader in Saudi Arabia. Like any good demo, the mission features a range of combat situations, including the use of anti-tank weapons, the destruction of an anti-aircraft battery and at least one seriously fast-paced, confusing fire fight.

The graphics in COD4 are top notch, and we didn't notice any lag even at higher-end settings. COD4 is built on a new proprietary engine which offers much better support for up-to-the-minute lighting effects, clearly visible in this test mission. Another aspect of the new engine makes for a really interesting change to gameplay. Some forms of cover (a light wooden fence, for example), won't offer you much protection like they did in years gone by. While buildings are not destructible, many elements of the environment (like cars and, yes, light wooden fences) are easily destroyed with gunfire. Heavier weapons can cut through heavier cover too, "Shoot them through the wall!" you're ordered at one point.

All this added realism makes the general quality of gameplay really high. We noticed great improvements in AI, even on easier levels of difficulty where previous games may have left you feeling somewhat silly. In fact, COD4 was surprisingly good, especially when there had been some negative reaction to the XBOX 360 beta.

Fast paced, intense and varied: awesome graphics and involving gameplay make Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare a must-have for any self-respecting gamer.

Download Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare in Softonic

It includes several game scenarios, each one of them set at different critical moments during the previous years to WWII.

This game beats any other strategy adventure I've ever seen so far. It really makes you feel like you're rewriting History. You can choose any nation in the world and take any decisions on how to manage resources, establish diplomatic relationships with other countries, create alliances or even declare war and try to conquer a foreign territory. In a way, Making History enables you not only to create your own version of History, but also to test historical hypotheses and check, for example, what would have happened if the Republicans had won the Civil War in Spain.

That said, I strongly recommend you to follow the 30-minute tutorial, because this is a true strategy game with loads of detail and many elements to take care of. It's a pity that the demo doesn't allow you to save the game or play multiplayer games, but still it gives an excellent overall view of the game. Really worth a try!

The Animated Atlas of the Third Reich is designed for use in British schools to educate pupils about the history of Hitler's evil empire. The atlas includes more 150 digital maps - some of which are extensions - covering all of Europe, the Soviet Union, Middle East and North Africa, accompanied by more than 300 articles.

In addition, to allow children to follow the inter-war period, children can follow the military movements of the Allies and the Axis powers before World War II broke out. You can zoom in on the battles, cities or the biographies of commanders that interest you the most.

The developers claim to have dedicated more than two years to the investigation and the development of Hitler's Europe 1914-45 and the level of detail and graphics that it includes is truly impressive. For kids, this is an invaluable resource and for teachers, it will save many hours of boring preparation.

Download Hitler's Europe 1914-45: The Animated Atlas of the Third Reich in Softonic

Math Solver II 1.1

I must admit I'm a very math-challenged person. Numbers were my main weakness at school and even nowadays I have problems to check if my change is correct when I'm shopping. But this doesn't mean I can't appreciate a tool like Math Solver.

This amazing program helps you solve all kinds of mathematical problems, from a simple addition to a complicated geometrical function. Not only does it solve the operation, but also draws a graph based on it if possible, and gives extra information about the generated graph. The program also includes an excellent database with constants and functions.

On the downside, I think Math Solver is not really comfortable to use. Solving expressions and representing functions take too many clicks. Also, as each piece of information is offered in a separate window, your desktop can get really messy. Besides, Math Solver keeps a history of previously entered expressions so that you can review them or reuse them at any moment, but unfortunately they're not saved when you quit the program.

Download Math Solver II 1.1 in Softonic

DVdate features a multimedia player which can read the video (including in full screen) and browse easily in the video with CTRL+ array keys, and even browse from scene to scene. It displays in real time the datecode and timecode of the frame being played. DVdate displays also complete information about the AVI file. Like the utility Gspot, it indicates the codec, the image size, the number of frames per second, the duration of the video etc..., when dealing with DV files, it adds the type I or II and the TV standard Pal or NTSC or even the aspect ratio 4x3 or 16x9. It features also a function to display the RIFF header of an avi file, like riffwalk.exe from Microsoft used to do.

DVdate is able to load a great number of avi files into its "playlist", and process them individually or altogether. It displays automatically the video of each selected file.. With one keyboard hit (CTRL+F7) it may even load all avi files present on all your hard drives.

Download DVdate 6.4.1 in Softonic

Frets on Fire 1.2.451

For those of you not lucky enough to have experienced Guitar Hero on Playstation comes Frets On Fire for PC. This fun guitar game lets you feel like the next Jimi Hendrix or Slash by pounding away on your keyboard to some cool rock tunes.

When you launch Frets on Fire, your keyboard is temporarily turned into a guitar and we suggest holding it like one if you want to actually keep up with the songs. The Function keys become the frets that you’ll be using to play out the guitar sections.

To get started with Frets on Fire turn to the hilarious little tutorial with Jurgen. Even though he persists in telling you that you suck and throwing hundreds of notes at you at once, he’ll also give you the chance to familiarize yourself with the controls. The trick is to time your movements with the notes. This can become pretty tough when you get to guitar sections loaded with notes and it’ll really put your coordination skills to the test.

The game has only 3 songs to start out with, but you can import new ones created by the Frets on Fire Community, which you can find online, or the actual songs from Guitar Hero 1 and 2. For up and coming Eddie Van Halens, the editor gives you the chance to compose your own tracks. We prefer modifying existing ones, because it gives you a pattern to work with instead of starting from scratch.

Frets on Fire is really entertaining because you don’t need to know how to play the guitar: you just bang away on your keyboard and come up with something. The hundreds of songs available from the internet will keep you rocking away for hours. Add to that a friendly interface and a hilarious tutorial and you get one of the most original free games out there. Rock on!

Download Frets on Fire 1.2.451 in Softonic
