Hulu Plus is an app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch that lets you watch popular television shows and movies wherever and whenever you want to.

If your schedule is jam-packed with work, school or other "distractions" and makes it difficult to keep up with your favorite television shows, or even take in a movie once in a while, Hulu Plus will help you get back on track. An impressive number of different television show episodes and movies are available for viewing on Hulu Plus.

Hulu Plus has a simple interface that's easy to navigate and search for your favorite shows. Different types of media are divided by categories, such as movies, television shows, clips and trailers. You can add shows you want to watch at a later date onto your Hulu Plus queue and can sync it from different Hulu devices, making it a perfect compliment to Hulu Desktop for your PC. Shows can be watched with a 3G (or higher) or WiFi connection. The picture quality of the content was also great on the iPad it was tested on.

The Hulu Plus app is free through the iTunes App Store. Unfortunately, to make use of the actual service, there's a monthly subscription fee. Thankfully, it's pretty comparable with Netflix's fee if you're looking for an alternative way to watch media. Plus, you can try the service for a few minutes for free after installing the app to decide whether it's worth it. The only downside is that not all television shows are available on Hulu Plus and even when they are, sometimes full seasons aren't available.

Hulu Plus is a fantastic app for viewing anything from television shows to movies on your mobile device.

Download Hulu Plus 2.4.3 in Softonic

GetGlue is a social network app that focuses on sharing your media habits.

Everyone interacts with some form of media – visual or auditory. GetGlue is a social app that shares your habits through the network and connects users of similar tastes.

The GetGlue experience is relatively simple. Users search for the media they are interacting with, such as a TV show, movie, or video game, etc. and check in with it. On the user profile it shows check-ins, reviews, likes, and other information. Users of GetGlue can also become “gurus” of that specific title by writing reviews and interacting a lot with that particular title.

GetGlue users who utilize the app a lot can earn GetGlue stickers and discounts with a large list of media providers. So in addition to being an entertainment social network, GetGlue works with the media providers that their users are product fans.

The only main problem with GetGlue is that it is very specific in the library of content. Most English language products can be found in GetGlue, but fans of international media will probably not find what they searched for.

GetGlue is a fun social media experience and with expanded content will be even better.

Download GetGlue iPhone 3.0 in Softonic

Bing 3.01

It's something of a novelty to find a Microsoft product running on an Apple OS which doesn't totally suck.

Yet that's what the software giant has achieved with its excellent Bing app for iPhone. This compact, yet powerful search application gives very easy access to the Bing search engine, as well as offering a load of useful extras such as maps, directions, movies, news and a business directory.

Unlike <taglink type="program" country="en" id="75796">Google's mobile app</taglink> for iPhone, Bing is self-contained, opening all search results within the application itself rather than redirecting links to be loaded in Safari. One tap on a search result and the web page loads quickly within Bing. Like the Google app, Bing also supports voice searching, and the technology seems to work pretty well with a good degree of accuracy.

Bing for iPhone certainly looks a lot more attractive than its Google and <taglink type="program" country="en" id="82580">Yahoo!</taglink> equivalents. As with the site itself, the home screen is decked out with an impressive full-screen photograph, usually of some amazing bit of nature. The search entry box and speech icon are located at the top of the screen. There's a dock near the bottom of the interface, which can be toggled on and off, containing shortcuts to Images, Movies, Maps, Businesses, News, and Directions.

The image search in the Bing iPhone app is nothing short of phenomenal. The home screen of the image section displays the main photo from the home screen, only this time a selection of related images are scattered over the top of it. Enter you search and you'll be presented with a neat grid of thumbnails of matching results. Tap on one to open it full screen and you can then visit the source page or flick through all the images matching your search just be sliding your finger left and right.

I was also very impressed with the maps and directions in the Bing app. It automatically detects you location, offers four different views, shows traffic, and more. Navigating maps with your finger couldn't be simpler, and I particularly like the one-touch zoom out button. Bing is remarkably quick and plotting directions and offers detailed information about the journey along with turn-by-turn instructions and traffic info.

Although it's very good, Bing for iPhone still isn't perfect. The 'Movies' function wasn't working at all when I tested it, and the organization of the News section is a little haphazard and cumbersome to navigate.

I'm no Microsoft fanboy, but I have to say I would recommend the Bing app over both the Google's and Yahoo!'s iPhone offerings.

Download Bing 3.01 in Softonic

Skyfire is a web browser that allows you to watch Flash video on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

By default, iOS doesn't support access to any Flash content, other than watching YouTube videos through the pre-installed app. Skyfire Web Browser enables you to watch FLV videos on your iOS device for the first time. You can't play Flash games or apps, but you can enjoy Flash movies that are embedded into web sites, and videos from clip sites such as Google Video and Dailymotion.

The interface for watching these videos in Skyfire feels a little hacked and clunky. Instead of watching the videos on the site, as you would on your desktop computer, Skyfire forces you to launch a new window. If it detects the presence of video on a web page, a thumbnail preview will flash up from an icon at the bottom of the screen. Tap this thumbnail to start watching the video.

Videos can often take a while to load up in Skyfire, but once they do, we found playback to be generally solid, with few buffering problems. Player controls are pretty basic. There's a pause button and a volume slider, but there's no way to scrobble through the video and the back option didn't work in our tests.

Away from the Flash video functionality, Skyfire is a decent mobile web browser, with a few neat features. We especially like the Facebook Quickview option, which means you're only one click away from your Facebook feeds at any time. Skyfire also supports private browsing, bookmarks, and the option to load pages in desktop browser format. The 'Explore' button in Skyfire lets you enter a keyword and view related videos, tweets, trends and photos.

Although it doesn't support all Flash content, Skyfire opens a whole world of new video experiences on the iPhone. It's not bad for general web browsing, either.

Download Skyfire 4.0.3 in Softonic

Amazon Price Check is an app primarily for the iPhone, although some useful features do work on the iPod Touch and iPad as well. The app allows you to instantaneously check and compare the prices of store products with Amazon.com's own inventory.

What makes Amazon Price Check so useful is the app's many product recognition features. You can scan a product bar code and match the item with one in stock at Amazon.com to compare merchant pricing, for one. If your device also has a camera, you can snap a picture of the item as well. Amazon Price Check has a photo matching algorithm that will automatically match your picture to a number of different products, including books, DVDs, and CDs. You can even make use of Amazon Price Check's voice search option. Just speak the name of the product in question, and Amazon Price Check will provide you with a product match and its Amazon.com price.

The app is easy to use, allowing you to search by categories, such as books, movies, music, and electronics. In addition, if you're interested in other buyers' opinions about the product, Amazon Price Check provides customer reviews and ratings straight from Amazon's main website. If you like what you see, you can even buy the product online in just a few, simple clicks via the app itself.

Unfortunately, the app only provides information on Amazon.com's United States inventory, and prices are in U.S. dollars. If you're not based in the United States, this app won't work for you. Additionally, if you own a device that does not come equipped with a built-in camera, many of Amazon Price Check's greatest features will not be available to you.

If you want to verify shopping deals before buying, Amazon Price Check is a great tool with which to do so.

Download Amazon Price Check 1.2.1 in Softonic

There are a number of different scenarios to get through, and you need to pass a mission in order to unlock the next one.

The controls in iBomber take a lot of getting used to. You move the plane by tipping the iPhone up and down, which adjusts the bearing on the on-screen compass. You'll find that this is very sensitive though, and the slightest nudge at the wrong moment will send you hurtling off course. Dropping the bombs is done by hitting the big red button, and it's advisable to keep tapping this repeatedly if you want to clear your targets before you get shot down.

The presentation of iBomber is excellent, featuring a top-down view of the pretty detailed scenery below. The soundtrack is great too, and makes it feel like you're the dashing hero in one of those classic War World II movies.

iBomber may be pretty challenging, but its excitement and action will keep you occupied for hours.

Download iBomber 1.7 in Softonic

iMovie allows you to record, edit and export your own professional looking HD movies on your iOS device - to be precise the iPhone 4, iPod touch 4th generation or iPad 2.

The app makes smart use of the multi-touch gestures to allow you to add videos, photos, music and sound effects, and piece them together in iMovie. You can choose to add footage from your camera roll, or capture video directly through iMovie. Similarly, music can be added from your iPod Library on your device, or you can record audio through the application.

Working with iMovie is a pretty comfortable experience, especially if you're running it on the iPad 2. The timeline is easily manipulated, dragging to cut clip lengths, pinching to zoom in, double-tapping to open clip options, etc. It does take a while to figure all these gestures out though. for this reason, it would be nice if iMovie included an interactive tutorial or annotated editing screen (like GarageBand has), instead of hiding the information in help pages.

iMovie includes a selection of eight themes to help you create attractive movies, allowing you to customize them with your own titles and location details (which can be automatically detected by the app, incidentally). There's also a selection of theme music and sound effects to liven up your videos. However, iMovie is definitely in need of more transitions and video filters.

There is a great range of exporting features in iMovie. Beside saving the finished movie to the Camera Roll you can send it to YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, CNN iReport, and even publish it on iTunes.

Of course, iMovie lacks the power of its desktop-based big brother, but as mobile phone video editing suites go, it's the best out there right now.

Download iMovie 1.2.2 in Softonic

HBO GO lets you watch television shows, movies and on-demand sports on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch wherever you are.

It was pretty revolutionary when Hulu Plus became available for iPhone and other Apple devices. But Hulu's selection can be a bit limited in terms of what's available to watch. Now subscribers to HBO can watch all their favorite shows on their phone with HBO GO.

To use HBO GO, you need to create an online account and link it to your overall HBO subscription. From there, you can browse through over 1400 TV shows, movies or even sports. If you're a big public transportation user, HBO GO is ideal. Never miss another episode of "Game of Thrones" or "True Blood" again.

You can create a watchlist with HBO GO to compile a list of your favorite movies for later viewing. There's also the ability to have full seasons of your favorite televisions shows sent to your phone with the season pass feature.

HBO GO is compatible with iPhone 3GS or higher, the iPad and the third generation or higher of the iPod Touch, as long as you have a 3G or wifi connection. Be aware that data plan charges may apply and if your phone's connection is weak, the streaming may skip or even freeze until you have a stronger signal.

HBO GO is a fantastic option for HBO subscribers to watch their favorite shows and movies on the go.

Download HBO GO 1.2 in Softonic

As a result I'm forever having to ask people where the nearest supermarket is, where to find a taxi rank, or whether there are any decent bars or restaurants in the vicinity.

With AroundMe this is no longer a worry because the program is able to provide me with this information in just a couple of clicks. The iPhone software automatically detects your current location and provides one-click access to lists of the nearest: banks, bars, cafes, gas stations, hospitals, hotels, movie theaters, parking, pharmacies, pubs, restaurants, supermarkets, taxis and theaters.

Click on any of these categories and AroundMe will bring up a list of those type of business in a remarkably quick time. You can then click on one of the suggestions to get the full address and phone number of the business, which you can add to your iPhone's contacts with a single click. Hit 'Show Route' and AroundMe will display the directions from your current location, via Google Maps.

I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of results returned by AroundMe. Granted, I live in a big city but from anecdotal information I've heard from users in smaller towns I gather that AroundMe provides decent results in these less built-up areas too.

AroundMe is very quick and simple to use but I felt it's usefulness could still be improved upon. For instance, it's not possible to view the results in order of proximity, meaning you often have to flick through a few pages before you find the closest. Also, it would've been great to see more information about each place, such as guides, reviews or even just a link to the company's web site.

All in all though, AroundMe is a very handy thing to have in your pocket when you're out and about.

Download AroundMe 4.2.5 in Softonic

Crackle lets you do that in a few simple clicks.

Similar to Hulu Plus, the one main difference is that Crackle is one hundred percent free to use for anyone who has a 3G or 4G data plan or a wifi connection. Note that wifi is preferred so you lose your favorite show every time you lose your cell signal.

Crackle is really easy to use, and has a decent selection of movies and television shows. The selection could be a lot better overall, but it's really hard to complain when they're all being offered free. The only real downside to Crackle is that the selection changes every couple of months. In and of itself, this is actually a positive, but when new items get added old ones are removed. If you want to queue up some movie and TV show choices to watch later, Crackle lets you do that with ease. Just make sure to watch before they're taken down!

If you want a free alternative to Hulu that'll let you watch movies and TV shows anytime and anywhere, Crackle's got you covered.

Download Crackle 2.1.9 in Softonic

Fandango Movies - Times & Tickets is an app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that lets you search for nearby theaters and movie start times from your mobile device.

Most people are familiar with Fandango's popular movie ticket purchasing service on the web. Now you can achieve the same results from your mobile device. Fandango Movies - Times & Tickets lets you browse movies, look for showtimes and even view trailers, no matter where you are or what you're currently doing.

If you're using your iPhone or iPod Touch, you can rate and review movies you've seen directly from Fandango Movies - Times & Tickets' interface so other Fandango users can see them. You can also post the same movie reviews to your Facebook wall through Facebook Connect and sync to your web-based Fandango account to view your purchased ticket history, among other things. You'll need a Fandango account already set up to do this. If you don't have one yet, no worries. The app will prompt you to create one after you install it.

If you're an iPad user, Fandango Movies - Times & Tickets also gives you quite a few extras. There's a category on the app called The Pulse that will show you where tickets to the movie you're considering purchasing were sold (at least via Fandango itself). It's arguable that this won't actually help you avoid huge crowds since Fandango Movies - Times & Tickets only shows you the tickets purchased through its own service. It's still an interesting feature.

Fandango Movies - Times & Tickets also allows you to filter movies by genre, MPAA rating and also the format, such as IMAX or 3D. You can also search Fandango Movies - Times & Tickets via a filter to find specific features available in theaters like closed captioning, stadium seating, and on-site arcades. Plus, watching movie trailers on Fandango Movies - Times & Tickets is a real treat on the iPad's gorgeous screen.

Fandango Movies - Times & Tickets is truly an excellent all-in-one theater and movie time locating app.

Download Fandango Movies - Times & Tickets 4.4 in Softonic

Springpad 2.2.4

Springpad is a free note-taking app for Android that stands out thanks to super-integration with browser, desktop and web.

The Springpad app is really easy to use, but you’ll need to sign up. Don’t let this put you off though, because once you’ve done it, you’ll have access to the web, iPad and iPhone versions of Springpad too, which means that you’ll be able to sync your tasks at home, in the office and on the move.

Springpad works by creating notebooks, or grouped tasks. When you think of something you need to do, pick the relevant notebook, add the task and classify it according to what it is whether its a note, a task or a movie you need to look up online. Once the task is safely stored, you’ll be able to add media or more information, set a reminder or even add it to your Android home screen for even more direct access.

Springpad syncs quickly and automatically with the online version, so the information you’re seeing is always up to date. There aren’t many configuration options specifically for the mobile version, but you can set plenty of options for individual tasks and visually there’s a lot of flexibility with backgrounds and color schemes.

There are bunches of note taking apps for Android out there, and the Springpad vs. Evernote debate is a popular one. The main difference is definitely a visual one – Evernote goes for a minimalist approach, while Springpad aims for a softer appeal. Both are excellent apps however and to really be sure, we recommend downloading both and seeing which one meets your particular needs.

Springpad is an excellent free note-taking app for Android that really lets you harness the full power of the web.

Download Springpad 2.2.4 in Softonic

Myspace 2.0.6

It may not be the coolest social network any more, but Myspace is still here and vying for your attention.

This iPhone app, like the web app, concedes that you probably use Facebook and Twitter and allows you to sign in with those accounts, as well as Myspace.

The home screen is a portal to Myspace's various tools. The stream gives you either a traditional news wall, made of updates from Myspace, Twitter and Facebook, or you can use the Grid view. Grid is split into three parts, your live stream, Artists on Myspace and Discover.

The Artists stream takes your iPhone library, and gives you news on your favorite stars, while Discover sends you updates on movies, celebs and more. Discover seems to be unpersonalized, and just a stream of celebrity marketing. You can also use 'super post' to update your status across the three social networks, use Myspace chat, read your mail and more.

The Myspace app is a pretty confused thing. It doesn't take advantage of the network's great music and video at all, can be slow and a little unstable. You cannot delete or edit posts you make, and both Facebook and Twitter are better served by their own apps.

If you're a Myspace fan, you'll like this app. However, it doesn't stand up well as a social media app when compared to the competition.

Download Myspace 2.0.6 in Softonic

Fast Five the Movie: Official Game 1.0.1

Fast Five the Movie: Official Game is an explosive racing game based around the latest in the Fast & Furious series of movies.

The game lets you take the wheel of some of the hottest cars from the Fast Five movie. The Career mode sees you take on a series of challenges on the streets of Rio, the Dominican Republic, Hong Kong and more. In order to complete each chapter you'll need to take part in elimination contests, drift challenges, time attacks and drag events. With 10 different chapters to unlock, you'll be playing Fast Five the Movie: Official Game for some time.

Controlling the game is very simple, and it works in much the same way as the previous F&F iOS tie-in, Fast & Furious The Game Test Drive. The car auto-accelerates and you steer it by tilting your iPhone left and right. Tap the brake button and you'll slow down.

These controls are simple enough to master, accept the brake button is inconveniently placed if you're wearing headphones, as they may impede your thumb. It would've been better if you could touch any part of the screen to slow down, like you can with the first Fast & Furious iPhone game. Perhaps even the Fast Five the Movie: Official Game should have another control system to choose from.

Graphically, Fast Five the Movie: Official Game is very impressive. The impression of speed you get is awesome and streets are beautifully rendered. The explosive special effects that accompany each level really give you an adrenaline buzz.

Gameplay is more dynamic in Fast Five for iOS than it is in a standard racing game. Events happen during the race that are beyond your control (trucks falling from overhead carriageways, buildings falling apart on top of you, etc.) and you need to be prepared for this. A Rewind Time feature allows you to go back a few seconds during gameplay so you can correct any mishaps you make.

Other elements of Fast Five the Movie: Official Game that help keep you immersed in it, include the vehicle tuning section, and a multiplayer mode that lets you play online against up to nine other players. Alternatively, you can play against a friend over Bluetooth or WiFi.

Fast Five the Movie: Official Game is one of the most diverse and enjoyable iOS racing game to date.

Download Fast Five the Movie: Official Game 1.0.1 in Softonic

This app brings the Scott Pilgrim comics to your iPhone. It offers two free episodes to read, and you can buy the rest from within the app.

Scott Pilgim comics are a huge cult hit, about a 23 year old Canadian slacker. They are funny and very well observed, and this app displays them beautifully. Essentially, Scott Pilgrim uses the Comixology system to turn your iPhone screen into an amazing comic platform. Instead of showing the whole page, the app zooms and slides around the action and speech. This makes Scott Pilgrim a pleasure to read, and the way the pages move look great.

If you've seen the movie and want to check out the comics, this is a great way to do it. It's annoying for Comixology fans that Scott Pilgrim is only available as a standalone app, and not Comixology. However, strangely, once you have installed this app you will be able to read the comics you download in Comixology.

Scott Pilgrim's adventures are engrossing and funny, and this app displays them beautifully.

Download Scott Pilgrim 1.1 in Softonic

Joost 2.1.2

Thanks to improvements in Internet TV services, the humble television set is no longer the focal point of everyone's house. In fact as these technologies are now becoming ported to mobile devices, people don't even need to be inside to catch the latest programs.

Joost is an Internet TV service, which allows you to watch TV, movies, music videos and more over the Net. This iPhone version of the application brings all of this content to your mobile phone, through a pretty simple user interface.

When you fire up Joost you're automatically taken to the 'Joost Picks' section, where you can view the latest hand-picked selection of top clips, each with a thumbnail picture and short description. Playing a clip is as simple as clicking on the title or description and waiting for the player to load. This player, which loads horizontally for optimal viewing, is minimalist in its design but proves a little annoying to use. The volume is slider is frustratingly unresponsive and the video timeline bar is very erratic. The picture quality in general can't be faulted though, and the definition is so high that you often have to remind yourself you're watching it on a phone.

Besides viewing the latest Joost Picks, you can click on the 'Popular' icon to check out the hottest clips, browse clips by category, or search for movies and TV shows manually. At the moment, Joost claims that there are more than 46,000 videos available for free on the site.

As great as the idea of Joost is, unfortunately the service has yet to really deliver in terms of its content. Much of what you can get through Joost is available on YouTube, and it's quite limited in terms of its scope. You won't find much in the way of recent movies or popular comedy shows, for example. Although if you're into old films, music videos and documentaries about Sports Illustrated model shoots, Joost delivers them all in abundance.

Despite it's limitations, Joost does offer you the chance to watch television for free on your phone, which we could've only dreamed of just a few years ago.

Download Joost 2.1.2 in Softonic

VLC media player 1.1.0

VLC media player is a free video player for iOS that allows you to play a wide range of different movie files on your device.

The design of VLC media player for iOS is in total contrast with the style of the desktop version of VLC - it's a lot more simplistic and Apple-feeling. For instance, the video selection window consists of an iBooks-style shelf with preview images of each video in your library.

The main player window in VLC media player is very similar to the native iOS video app. It has minimal controls aside from playback, skip and the progress bar. Although it's very easy to use, functionality is sacrificed, so don't expect any of the incredible playback controls and features in the desktop version of VLC Player. In fact, VLC media player for iOS doesn't even the same level of scrubbing controls as the default video player.

Multi-format support

The real benefit of using VLC media player on your Apple device is that it supports so many different video formats, meaning that you don't need to convert your movie to play it. It supports AVI, DivX, MKV, WMV and many more.

In our tests we experienced no playback problems once video was loaded onto VLC media player. That said, many users on the App Store complain that certain files won't play, or only play with sound (this seems to affect MKV more than others).

At present, VLC media player feels a bit unfinished. Functionality is very limited, transferring videos to VLC from iTunes is a clunky process that feels a bit hit and miss, and sometimes preview thumbnails don't display properly on the video shelf. Hopefully, these issues will be addressed as the VLC media player app evolves.

If you're fed up of converting videos for your iPhone or iPad all the time, VLC media player is an easy-to-use player that can handle a wide range of file types.

Update: Please note that VLC media player is no longer available from the App Store.

Download VLC media player 1.1.0 in Softonic

Fast & Furious The Game 0.5.1

Fast & Furious The Game is currently unavailable from the app store. However, the game of the latest version of the film, Fast Five the Movie: Official Game is now available.

Fast & Furious has become something of a classic among metalheads. If you're a fan of the movie, or just like driving very, very fast, then make sure you check out Fast & Furious The Game.

The game sees you take control of a charged-up supercar, going up against two other drivers in a road battle through picturesque countryside. In Fast & Furious The Game, the objective, as with the film, is to beat your opponent then cash in your 'pink slip' to take ownership of his car. This vehicle then gets added to your garage and you can use it in any race (until such time as someone wins it back off of you).

There are three game modes in Fast & Furious The Game. You can play a quick race against the computer, take on a friend over WiFi, or play the engrossing Story mode, in which you're set a number of missions involving racing or pursuing other vehicles.

Superb driving experience

The thing we like most about Fast & Furious The Game Test Drive is its control system, which makes intelligent use of the iPhone's hardware. Instead of having fiddly pedals on the touchscreen as most racing games do, Fast & Furious The Game uses auto-accelerate. If you want to slow down (or reverse) you just tap anywhere on the screen. Steering is done by tilting your device left and right. It makes for an incredible natural drive, and I can see this control system quickly becoming the norm with iPhone racers.

The graphics in Fast & Furious The Game are very good, though no spectacular. The animation gives you a real sense of speed on all of the three camera angles. Sound effects are realistic too, although there is no music in the game. That said, there is an option for listening to your iPod tunes as you drive.

If you want to try Fast & Furious The Game before buying it, then go check out Fast & Furious The Game Test Drive, which is free to play.

Overall, Fast & Furious The Game Test Drive is well worth taking for a spin, especially if you dig the movie.

Download Fast & Furious The Game 0.5.1 in Softonic

You pop them simply by tapping on them, but you can rack up combos if you're fast enough, to improve your points tally. There are special merit badges up for grabs for achieving certain goals.

The game itself is fun to play and a high scores table maintains a level of interest for a while. Ultimately though, it's very repetitive, so UP isn't the kind of app you'll keep on your iPhone forever.

Besides the balloon game, you also get a load of extra content from UP, including the full trailer, along with various clips from the movie, character profiles, and a plot synopsis. There are even some neat UP wallpapers which you can save and display on your iPhone.

Although the game soon loses its appeal, UP is still a must-try app for any fans of the movie.

Download UP 1.0.0 in Softonic
