Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is Java’s most basic virtual machine. It’s a required component to run any Java-based application or web applet.

Installing Java Runtime Environment on your system is really easy. The process hardly takes a few minutes to integrate Java in your system and also in all main web browsers, like Internet Explorer or Firefox. A few clicks on the "Next" button and Java will be installed on your computer in no time.

If you need to configure any option regarding Java Runtime Environment, go to the Control Panel and you’ll find a Java icon that will give you access to a fully featured Java Control Panel. And if you’re on a 64-bit computer, remember you have to use the 64-bit edition of Java Runtime Environment instead.

Java Runtime Environment is the necessary component to be able to run any Java-based desktop app or web applet.

Download Java Runtime Environment 7u25 7.0.250.16 in Softonic

Java Development Kit is the official development kit for the Java programming language, especially developed for 64-bit machines.

Programming in any computer language requires a text editor and knowledge of syntax, as well as a clear idea of what is you're trying to create. You then need a compiler to run as an interpreter to translate your code into something understandable. Java is one of the most popular coding languages out there, and Java Development Kit (or JDK) is its official development package.

In addition to the Java Virtual Machine that is essential to perform certain Java-based program types, Java Development Kit has a wide range of tools such as javac, the Java bytecode compiler, javap, disassembler class, and jdb, which is a debugger. You'll find them in Java Development Kit's subdirectory bin. Note though that it doesn't include a graphical IDE (like <taglink type="program" country="en" id="36486">Eclipse</taglink>), which requires separate installation.

Unfortunately, if you have very little or no previous experience coding in Java, Java Development Kit is incredibly complicated to learn without aid.
Android SDK 3.2

Google is aiming to create a shake-up in mobile phone operating systems with the launch of its Android platform. Designed to be completely open and free for developers, the API could change the way mobile phone software is used, making all applications equal and combining phone-based data with web tools.

The Android SDK gives mobile software developers the chance to play around with the new platform. It contains everything you need to start building applications, as well as a fully functional device emulator for testing them out when you've finished.

Even non-developers can try out the emulator, as it's easy to set up and run (it does take a while to load up, mind you). There is a choice of phone skins and resolutions to tinker with too. After fiddling around for a bit with the OS I must say I'm pretty impressed. Its integration with Google Maps is seamless and only shows to highlight the potential for development of apps that blur the boundaries between phone and web-based software.

Installing software onto the emulator isn't easy and you need to fiddle around with code in order to do so. Although, there's plenty of documentation available online to help you get the most from the SDK, this is still really only something mobile developers will get much use out of, rather than just those curious about how Android applications will look.

Overall though, Android SDK provides a fast and reliable development environment for those looking towards the next era of mobile software.

Download Android SDK 3.2 in Softonic
