This demo lets you play through 'Helm's Deep', where our heroes in the fortress of Hornburg are under attack from the forces of the Wizard Saruman.

What we expect from a LEGO game is a fun take on the source material, and that is what you get with LEGO The Lord of the Rings. The gameplay is similar to previous games, with simple action and puzzles to work through. The puzzles are better suited to kids, since they can be tedious for adults. The cut scenes are as charming as ever, although in this demo they do stick very closely to the scenes in the LOTR movies. The dark tone of Lord of the Rings isn't a perfect fit for LEGO's humor.

The graphics are excellent, as usual. The scene on the battlements, with the army of orcs spreading out into the distance below is epic to look at, and there is some excellent use of perspective that makes the action even more impressive. Like Batman, LEGO The Lord of the Rings uses voice acting instead of just the noises and expressions that the series started out with. However, the voices are good, and don't detract from the game. It is still the animations and expressions that give LEGO The Lord of the Rings its funniest jokes.

LEGO The Lord of the Rings doesn't look like a major development for the LEGO series, but it's another polished action puzzle game that will amuse adults and children alike.

Lego Batman 2 is the best game in the Lego series so far, and it brings Superman into the story to fight evil alongside Batman and Robin. Great for adults and kids, the Lego games are excellent mixes of action and puzzle solving. Lego Batman 2 is no exception, but brings fantastic voice acting to the series as well.

New Gameplay

Lego Batman 2's gameplay is easy to pick up, with plenty of variety. You can play cooperatively as Batman and Robin or switch between characters when necessary. Both have different abilities, and different suits which give them yet more. It's not difficult, but is hard enough that kids will have to keep on their toes to survive. The puzzles are well designed, also without being too difficult.
Lego Batman 2 introduces an open world structure, Gotham City, but individual stages play just like we're used to in Lego titles.

Lego Batman 2 looks great, with all the superheroes and villains animated with tons of humor and character. It's still a lego game, but this looks better than ever. The voice acting is fantastic, and gets the tone just right. There are great jokes throughout, with plenty for all ages to enjoy.

Lego Batman 2 is an excellent family video game that's as fun to watch as it is to play. Gotham City's open world design means there's lots to explore and find, and there are lots of characters to unlock and play with.

When I was little one of my favorite toys was a Lego set of pieces which I used to build just about anything, from a house for my dolls to a supersonic spaceship. This is probably the reason why I was delighted to discover a digital version of that good old Lego box.

Lego Digital Designer provides you with a huge amount of Lego pieces of all sorts and sizes with which you can build anything you can come up with. Besides free creation, you can also use pre-rendered 3D figures included in Lego Digital Designer, either for editing them or for taking them as models for your own designs.

The program displays a 3D working area to place pieces than can be panned, zoomed or moved in any direction to get a better view of your creation. Just bear in mind that you need to be extremely accurate with your mouse and move the working area a lot in order to get pieces in the appropriate spot.

Pieces are selected from a floating menu: you'll find them conveniently organized by categories and grouped by size. And you know what? They're endless, like in any child's dream! Once your work of Lego-art is done, you can upload to an online gallery or even order it in real Lego pieces.

From Star Wars, to Indiana Jones, Batman and Pirates of the Caribbean, the LEGO games have been building on their successes, and LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 looks to be the most ambitious yet.

As with all those games, this one is both suitable for kids, while being fun for adults, with lots of references and in-jokes for fans of the Harry Potter stories. In this demo you have to solve puzzles using Harry, Hermione and Ron Weasley, each with their unique talents. You can play cooperative two player as well, which adds a lot of fun to the experience.

Graphically, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 looks excellent, and is typically well animated. The sound too, is very well implemented making for a very polished game. Curiously, we found that if you don't know the original stories, LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7 can be a little confusing - for example, if you don't know the name of Hermione's cat, the game won't help you! The legions of Potter fans won't mind this, but previous LEGO games felt more accessible!

The full game is looking excellent despite minor issues. With the official games of the movies never living up to the hype, it seems LEGO will come to the rescue with a title that does the series justice.

If you're a huge fan of both Lego and iconic action movies, you're in luck. There are several Lego PC games for a variety of different popular movies.

Lego Star Wars is no exception. This genre goes one step further, however, bringing fans a pack of screensavers that depict Lego blocks and figures made to look like imagery from the popular space movies, Star Wars.

There are a few screensaver options to choose from with Lego Star Wars. Each one offers a nice, crisp graphic depicting something iconic from the Star Wars movies, made with Lego blocks or figurines. Customize how long you want to have the program wait before showing up due to PC inactivity. In each option, the Lego logo is prominently displayed for fans to appreciate.

The only complaint some users might have is the lack of screensaver options. It would've been nice to have had more to choose from.

If you've played a Lego game before, you'll know what to expect. You will play a selection of the biggest characters in the Pirates of the Caribbean, through the most iconic scenes in the movies. On PC Lego Pirates of the Caribbean looks good, with a cinematic score to accompany the action. Controls are via keyboard or joypad, and we found the keyboard setup to be a little awkward.

While Lego Pirates of the Caribbean may not be based on movies quite as iconic as Star Wars, there is enough comedy in the cut scenes to keep everyone entertained even if the plot gets confusing! Overall, Lego Pirates of the Caribbean offers a good mix of action and puzzles that is great fun to play through.

Lego has been the basis of many great kids games, giving Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 two potential problems: Firstly, we've seen lots of Lego games already, and secondly the movie tie-in games have been pretty weak. Thankfully, Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 is a lot of fun.

You can play as Harry, Ron or Hermione and a host of others that are unlockable in the game. Like others in the Lego series, Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 puts a Lego twist on many of the memorable scenes from the original movies. The unique gameplay idea in this game is the spell system, that allows you to progress through the game using a range of fun magic. There is also a two player cooperative mode.

Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 continues the excellent series of Lego games, and is one of the funniest and most enjoyable Harry Potter games you will find.

The building editor in MySims is really simple – nothing like the original one in The Sims – and the blocks you use to build houses are very similar to Lego. As you progress through the story in MySims, you'll see more people moving to town and you'll unlock more blueprints to keep on building more advanced structures.

Another important element to take into account in MySims are the so called essences. They can be found in many different places and are used for several purposes: painting walls, building items, decorating furniture, etc. There’s a different type of essence for each one of the six sim types you find on MySims: fun, geeky, cute, studious, tasty and spooky.

MySims is a special version of The Sims for children, and maybe also for people who have never played The Sims before and want to have a first gentle contact with the game.

When I was a kid I used to spend countless hours playing with Lego. Now that I'm a bit older, I'm happy to have found a digital version of thos old colorful bricks.

BlockCAD is a mixture between an application and a game in which you can play around with Lego pieces and built anything you can think of – just like when you were a child. The only limit is your imagination!

BlockCAD includes hundred of Lego pieces in all shapes and sizes, with customizable colors as well. All you have to do is drag and drop them on the main window and arrange them on the working surface in order to build your personal Lego creation.

The program is very intuitive, though to be honest, it takes a while to get used to the three-dimensional perspective (I had to remove lots of pieces that weren't properly arranged). Also, buttons are not very clear until you select the 'Hints' option under the gear menu. Finally, while there's an option to edit pieces, the editor itself is not very clear either.

BlockCAD is an entertaining Lego game that, in spite of not being very intuitive at first, is certain to remind you of happy childhood times.

After playing with Lego Digital Designer a while ago, I still needed some more Lego fun so I thought this screensaver would do the trick.

Briblo Screensaver uses Lego pieces to liven up your screen while you're away from the computer, that is, exactly the same way as other screensavers. But the good thing about Briblo is that you can actually interact and play with it. You only need to press any of the arrow keys while pieces are falling on your screen and you'll be able to move them around the screen. Use the spacebar to change its direction.
Once the piece is in the right position, press enter to let it drop down. One tip: you must be quick to change the piece's position, because otherwise it will just follow onto the ground. It's a pity you can't save games or save your Lego creations as images, don't you think?

In short, Briblo is an original screensaver that stands out of the crowd by offering an embedded Tetris-style game.

To get the most out of ROBLOX, you have to sign up, which gives you a customizable character and a in-game real estate to play around with. There are two types of ROBLOX account – free and premium – and the privileges available to each obviously differ. In the online world, you can use various bricks to build whatever you want. If you need inspiration, you can look at other user's worlds or ROBLOX games they have created.

The first thing that'll strike you about ROBLOX is that it's a bit awkward. It's certainly kid-safe, but isn't really intuitive. For curious and technically confident children and teenagers, however, this may actually be a bonus. There's a great deal of freedom with what you can do, as long as you have patience! Building is much like with Lego - you make stuff from a variety of bricks. With time and effort, you can build enormous and complex buildings.

The ROBLOX user created worlds and games are impressive, but unfortunately, the game engine isn’t great and the camera can be very annoying as it swivels around and pops in and out of the screen apparently at random. Despite this, ROBLOX is really, really popular and has a lively online community, so some kids obviously enjoy it!

ROBLOX is a great idea - letting kids create their own online worlds that they can share with friends - but is pretty rough around the edges.
