A good choice for your sound conversions is ALO Power Audio Converter, an easy-to-use audio converting tool that will get the job done in no time: simply add all the files you want to convert to the interface, select the corresponding target format, choose the output folder and click on Convert. That's all!

ALO Power Audio Converter supports 20 different audio formats, including MP3, WAV, Ogg Vorbis, AC3, WMA and AAC. The good thing about having such a wide variety of formats is that each one of them has its own configuration options, so that you can tweak the conversion settings and the resulting file any way you like.

ALO Power Audio Converter is easy to use, works fine and conversions are really fast. Too bad the demo is so limited you can't really test the program at its best.

MediaCoder iPhone iPod Touch Edition is one of those tools, a video converter that enables you to adapt your favorite movies, shows and video clips to the video formats used both in the iPhone and the iPod Touch. This app is in fact a simplified version of the original MediaCoder that has been adapted to these two new video platforms.

The program features a highly detailed interface that displays all the necessary information for each conversion, including an iPhone-like preview window. In fact, it's so complete that it may feel a bit overwhelming for first-time users.

The confusion still goes on – and even grows – when opening the program's exhaustive configuration menu. But once the initial shock is gone, MediaCoder iPhone iPod Touch turns out to be an excellent conversion tool that works really fast and obtains excellent results.

MediaCoder iPhone iPod Touch is pretty much everything you need to convert and transfer videos to your iPhone or iPod Touch. Just take your time to learn how to use it.

Download MediaCoder iPhone iPod Touch Edition 0.6.1.4185 in Softonic

Any Audio/Video Converter is one of those converters: a simple, easy-to-use application that support pretty much any format you can find nowadays and lets you convert both audio and video files in just a few steps.

The program works with a list where you add the files you want to convert, no matter what format they are. Then you configure the conversion options for each one of them separately and finally click on the "Convert" button to let the program do the rest. I think this method is quite handy and saves you loads of work and time; pity the trial version only accepts one file on this list!

Any Audio/Video Converter includes a built-in player in its interface, but it's only good to watch the video while it's being converted and not preview it before actually starting the process.

In addition to this primary function, Audio/ Video To EXE also performs conversions between various media formats.

There are two types of conversion offered - EXE and multimedia formats, with a list of tasks and completed quickly. The only drawback of this free version is that you cannot select the sampling frequency and hence the quality of the resulting files. This is a great tool for sending small videos and songs by e-mail, ensuring that the recipient can play the file. Almost all audio/video formats [3GP, AAC, AC3, AIFF, ASF, AVI, EXE, FLAC, FLV, GIF, M1V, M2V, M4V, MOV, MP2, MP3, MP4, MPC, MPG, NUT, OGG, RA, RM, SWF, VOB, VOC, WAV, WMA, WMV, WV, YUV] are supported. You can even play and convert your executables without a player or a codec. It works as a standalone and the latest version adds M1V, M2V, M4V, and YUV support.

If you love to share clips with someone who's forever having problems with their media player, then Audio/Video to EXE is the answer to your prayers.

Download Audio/Video To Exe 1.5.3.0 in Softonic

iPod Audiobook can lend you a hand in these situations by enabling you to convert a handful of audio formats to MB4, the audiobook format supported by the iPod. This means that you can convert complete music collections to this format and have them synced to your iPod via iTunes in the blink of an eye.

iPod Audiobook is very easy to use, with a wizard-style interface to convert audio files. Plus it supports multiple simultaneous conversions and is also seamlessly embedded into Windows File Explorer. This means you can convert files right from the context menu, without having to open the program itself. With such a nice interface and handy tools, it would be great to have more audiobook target formats to choose from.

If this sounds like thinly veiled criticism of iTunes then it is a little bit I guess but the point is that some people don't want online stores, most played lists etc, etc. QuuxPlayer is a simple and straightforward player that has you up and running in minutes and includes a 30 band equalizer.

However, the big draw of QuuxPlayer is Wireless Gamepad support which means that you can control it in a unique way from just about anywhere in the room as long as you in range of your receiver. The look and feel of QuuxPlayer is certainly unique in comparison with other similar efforts. However, the developers already seem to be going against their philosophy of keeping it simple by adding automatic lyrics download, control locking for child management and an automatic directory monitoring service for updates amongst many other things.

That said, QuuxPlayer definitely occupies a unique position in the world of music players and if you've got a gamepad, you should definitely give it a whirl even if controlling music in this way is a bit odd.

Download QuuxPlayer 2.0.6.13 Standard Edition in Softonic

In truth though, what you get is an excellent solution that has been so packed with features that at times it is unnecessarily complex to use.

Although it’s far from bloated in terms of the strain it puts on your processor Tag Clinic loses points for the sheer quantity of options that are presented to the user on the main interface. The design of the interface does you no favors either and the glut of buttons littering the three-windowed menu only serves to confuse you.

Once you finally manage to find the directory containing your music you can begin to experience the powerful features of Tag Clinic. There is a huge number of options for interacting with tags, the most advanced of which must be the auto-extract feature, which will look at the file name and use any details from it to fill in the ID3 tag information for titles, artists, albums and tracks. Formatting the text is also a breeze with options to capitalize the first letters or eliminate any spaces from between words.

Although this is a program for editing tags, it seems to be incomplete because of the lack of an internal player and if you want to preview files you must open your default player. We would also like very much to see some kind of CDDB integration that would pull relevant information about albums from the internet repository.

With its direct editing of tag entries, Tag Clinic does offer a very efficient way to edit your music library’s details; However it could do with a major interface re-design and a few more MP3-relevant features to make the experience that bit more user- friendly.

Download Tag Clinic 4.3.7.2 in Softonic

mp3Tag 2.41

Most of us who own an MP3 player or play digital music on a computer will admit that it’s possible to get a little precious over your audio collection. There’s something very satisfying about having a hoard of music with the correct track and album names for each song. Not only does it look a lot cleaner in your player, but it makes it a darn sight easier to organize your collection and manage playlists. Ensuring that all the tags in your audio files are correct can be a thankless task, but there’s plenty of software around that will make a much quicker job of it.

mp3Tag is one of the better tag editors around, allowing you to edit the metadata (the information about a track’s name, size, album name, artwork, etc.) with a good degree of autonomy. The app lets you rename files based on this tag information, replace characters or words from tags and filenames, import/export tag information, and create playlists. It carries out its dutiesdoes the job very well too. For instance, the program has a much cleaner interface than many of its rivals and is smaller to boot, making it very quick and responsive.

If you find that you have a lot of different audio formats on your machine that you want to keep in check then mp3Tag is perfect. It supports virtually every major audio file type, so you can edit tags for Ogg, Musepack, and AAC/MP4, besides just MP3s. tThe program isn't just a tagger, as it also includes cutting and joining functions that perform pretty well.

Perhaps the biggest boon though is the inclusion of a link-up with the online FreeDB database to import tags from the appropriate album, spelling a swift end to those MP3 albums you get with track names like ‘track01’, ‘track02’, ‘track03’, etc.) While the data returned from the FreeDB is sometimes erroneous, it’s generally pretty good (though probably not quite as quick as the import tool in Tag&Rename).

It’s fair to say that mp3Tag is one of the clear leaders in its field, and considering it’s a freeware app, it’s well worth downloading if you want to clean- up your music collection. Tag editing is very quick and once you’ve given your audio the mp3Tag treatment, you should find it so much easier to organize your tracks.

Download mp3Tag 2.41 in Softonic

Vuplayer is a refreshing break from the norm featuring highly intuitive controls with a simple interface and ultra quick response times. VUPlayer is a freeware multi-format audio player for Windows supporting a huge number of very rare formats including MOD, MTM, S3M, XM, MPC plus all the normal reliables like Mp3 and Mp4. There are numerous nice little features in addition to this that make it suitable for those looking for something that plays files their normal player can't usually handle. These include gapless playback options, optional 32-bit mixing and a solid 9-band graphic equalizer. There's also support for multiple visuals via a plug-in system, encoding to Ogg Vorbis, FLAC, APE, WMA & WV formats and even Audioscrobbler support. The problem is that it's not particularly easy to navigate around - many of the advanced options are particularly confusing. Plus it can crash when another application tries to access your soundcard at the same time.

Nevertheless, this is an interesting player that plays those unusual formats that may be causing you problems and features some juicy add-ons for a free player.

Download VUPlayer 2.49 in Softonic

It supports many popular formats and also Internet streams, which can be conveniently added to an auto-saving playlist.

The program's functionality is a bit tricky. All tasks are showed under the same window, even when you browse Windows File Explorer to add music to the playlist. This can sometimes lead to confusion but once you get used to it it's no big deal.

Audio quality is good and what's more, can be tweaked with some special effects. The program can also find the lyrics for the song you're listening to on the web.

Jay Brain is meant to be a basic audio player that can be extended with more features by means of plug-ins, but unfortunately I couldn't find any. I would have specially appreciated a new skin, as the one included by default makes menus hard to read. Hopefully more coders will join the project in the future (thanks to the GPL licence) and we'll see a super-powered Jay Brain later on.

AKRAM Media Creator 1.11.78

Akram Media Creator is a powerful, all-in-one, multimedia application supporting a huge and impressive array of tasks. It enables you to carry out a huge number of burning functions including creating data CD's, DVD's, MP3 CD's and Real Audio. The developers claim that there is no loss in sound quality due to support of recording on the fly although this is nothing particularly special in a burner.

The most appealing feature of this burner is it's sheer range. You can burn CDs and DVDs with multi session support and it automatically detects CD's and tells you exactly how big they are which can differ slightly between manufacturers. Akram Media Creator is ideal for backing up data although it's a shame it still does not support BlueRay and HD which are surely set to become increasingly important backup media.

Although it's not exactly the best looking or richly featured burner I've used, it does it's job well and for range alone, it's a useful tool to have in your burning arsenal.

Download AKRAM Media Creator 1.11.78 in Softonic

Media Catalog Studio 5.8

What is Media Catalog Studio? It is a program that can manage catalogs of all multimedia files in your collection, no matter whether it's on your hard drive, CD Rom, DVD, floppy disk or portable Flash-device.

Once you have connected a device with the files to the computer, indicating the file's locations, the program will remember all the information on MP3, WMA, MP4, MPC, APE, OGG, AAC, FLAC, WAV, AVI, MPEG, WMV, Video and Audio CD files. This information will be stored in the database and you won't need to call to all your friends or search all shelves, looking for the necessary disk.

Media Catalog Studio will remind you of its location, supplementing the information on artists and albums. You will discover all power of work with the database supplied with the user-friendly interface. You can ask for any parameter from your catalog in any order: artists, albums, tracks, genres, bitrates, ratings, moods and more. You can easily find the track providing a word from the lyrics or the title or some additional information - file size and its frequency. Searching for duplicates by file names, their internal information and tags will help to sort out your media collection.

Media Catalog Studio has a handy tag editor that will enable to add normal description to your catalog. To easily make new playlists, a temporary list is available where you can place files from all the catalogs on your computer without having to care for their location. Last but not least, you can just use it in order to listen to the music.

Download Media Catalog Studio 5.8 in Softonic

maniactools mp3Tag 5.9

Got a music collection with hundreds of poorly labeled mp3 files? Like having complete information about your music files – album, performer, genre, lyrics, year of release, and so on? Hate editing tags manually?

mp3Tag is a tag processor for MP3, WMA, OGG, APE, AAC, MPP/MPC/MP+, MP4/M4a files with great features, like an automated search for lyrics and pictures (album covers); tags import from Amazon and FreeDB. Another important advantage is the automatic tag filling option, which works great for mp3 albums that come without tags and meaningless file names, like 01.mp3, 02.mp3, 03.mp3, etc. The program takes the track lengths and compares this information with FreeDB data to find the appropriate album to import tags from. After confirmation the information is stored in the tags and if required can be used to rename the files.

mp3Tag allows the users to view and edit tag information, save lyrics and pictures inside MP3, M4a or WMA-files, view technical information about music files and delete unused MP3-tags.The program is capable of changing one or more tag fields simultaneously (including multiple files), generating WinAmp and Windows Media Player playlists, exporting tag information, renaming groups of files according to their tag data and much more. And special feature for iPod lovers – m4a tag editor!

Download maniactools mp3Tag 5.9 in Softonic

If you have all of them installed and working, good for you. But as this is not usually the case, it's good to have tools like CodecInstaller, which can help you organize, find, download and install audio and video codecs. Despite its simple, almost austere interface, this program is definitely worth it for those of you with codec problems.

CodecInstaller includes three main functions: scanning your system to find installed codecs, analyzing a given file to display the codecs it uses and finally giving you direct access to the most popular audio and video codecs, the ones that should be found on any PC.

The program can also be used as "video launcher" but this function requires some configuration. You'll find more information in the Help section.

Download CodecInstaller 2.9.0 in Softonic

ICoolPlayer is more than just a music player. It also includes an audio converter, CD ripper, audio CD recorder, sound recorder, radio and even an online editor for karaoke lyrics.

It is compatible with the most popular music formats, and its futuristic interface makes it attractive and accessible. However, this sis till very much a project in the development stages and so expect to experience bugs and unexpected crashes. The iCoolPlayer's library of media and online radio channels are all organized into one easy to use and manage interface. But the most unique aspect of this media player is the ability to create lyrics for karaoke, tailoring each sentence at the exact moment of the song while you listen and then reproducing the whole thing complete with audio and lyrics in iCoolPlayer. This is a great little tool because although there are hundreds of karaoke sites out there with ready made files and lyrics, invariably your favourite songs are never included. Using this software, I was able to sing Mr Boombastic by Shaggy simply by copying and pasting the words from a lyrics site.

A great little player with excellent karaoke function let down by the fact that it often crashes because it's still being developed.

Download iCoolPlayer 1.0.1.0 in Softonic
