Poster Forge is a fun tool that enables you to create posters with your own digital pictures in a very easy way. Unlike other similar tools, which only create larger versions of the image for you to print out, Poster Forge adds some cool effects that can turn any picture into a motivational poster, movie poster or a Far West "Wanted" style poster.

The program's interface is divided into three tabs (one for each kind of poster) and includes all the tools you need to customize them. Simply add a picture, type in any text you want, tweak a few settings and you're pretty much done. Unfortunately, there were things I couldn't customize, such as font size. Also, even though there's a tool to move the picture around and make it fit better, it's very limited and sometimes the picture needs to be cropped with a third-party app.

Once finished, the poster can be saved as an image file or conveniently printed as a poster with the built-in printing tool, which enables you to optimize poster printing and make them easier to assemble.

When it animates, clicking on the video icon downloads it directly. This simple extension downloads anything from YouTube videos, to MySpace, Google Video, DailyMotion, Porkolt, iFilm and more. You can select the folder you want to download videos where you will find them in FLV format. To make things even easier to keep track of, the files are added to the list of Firefox downloads like any other file. So you can see in a glance exactly what you've downloaded and how many videos you have in your collection. The only problem you might find is that sometimes, the downloads don't start immediately. It can take time depending on the streaming on the video site server but also, it seems that the program itself has to process the file before it starts downloading. The latest version has introduced some major innovations in the interface which make it much faster to use. One example is that FLV videos that you view are now remembered by the program so you can view your viewing history at any time and request the download of several videos in one batch or go directly to their original page. You have to enable this function via the system preferences and select 'enabled' in the 'History' tab. The developers have also reduced the number o duplicate entries that used to plague the previous version and there are fewer memory leaks so it's lighter on your RAM.

We've all enjoyed the offerings on the video sharing websites such as YouTube and Google Video. Unfortunately, none of these sites provide a standardized method to download and save these videos to your own PC.

Given the number of once-mighty file sharing clients and networks that have been forced to shut down following action by the RIAA, the developers of iMesh have decided to go legit. Well, sort of. It seems the remit of the P2P client is now to distribute content that is “100% legal,” deliver a thriving online music community, and offer users premium music downloads.

On the surface, the client and service looks highly polished. Complete with a colourful, GUI drawing more than a little inspiration from iTunes, it’s easy to find your way around. If you’ve never slapped your eyes on a P2P client before then you’ll almost certainly be impressed by the speed ease in which you can search for music and video, manage playlists and enjoy your downloads through a slick media player. You’ll also likely be impressed by the fact that you can join a community of users in making friends, exchanging messages and sharing media libraries. There’s also an online music download centre where you can pay to download tracks from some of your favourite artists.

Although these features may look great to the uninitiated user, more seasoned download freaks will quickly realize that iMesh is now suffering from a severe identity crisis. Is it a musical media player and premium download store like iTunes? Is it a place to hang out with fellow audiophile music fans like MySpace? Is it a client for getting hold of free music and video like Limewire and eMule? Actually, it’s all three, but the trouble is it doesn’t come close to any of the aforementioned apps in terms of performance.

If you want the benefit of having all of these services under one interface then it’s fine. The fact is though, that iTunes offers a far more comprehensive selection of pay-for music and MySpace has an infinitely larger user base. As for downloading tracks for free with iMesh, the boundaries are blurred even further. While it claims to offer nothing but legal files, it’s still possible to obtain copyrighted material using the clients albeit just a handful of results from a search – so renegade file hunters wouldn’t dream of giving up their eMules of Limewires and switching to iMesh.

There’s no disputing the fact that iMesh is a neatly-packaged app which has a noble stab at embracing the world of legal media downloads. It’s simple to operate and has some great features for connecting to an enthusiastic community of users. However, it’s hard to see this community staying loyal to iMesh as the bigger purveyors of legal and illegal music services continue to offer access to a much greater selection of content.

Watching videos on Youtube, DailyMotion or other video sharing websites is a great pastime. However sometimes your favorite videos are removed and you lose them forever.

If you want to avoid this, the best option is using an online video downloader like TubeMaster. If you click on the "Media download and conversion" tab you'll see a list with the videos that the program has captured, but they won't be really saved to your computer unless you click on the Save button. This is obviously also a necessary step if you want to convert it to other formats. Conversion works fine, though it would have been nice to have a small progress bar instead of just a "Converting" sign that gives you no clue about how the conversion is going.

Despite some minor flaws, TubeMaster is a great tool with which you can browse, download and convert videos from the most popular video sharing sites.

If you are looking for a different way to surf the web and you have a brand new computer, you can try SpaceTime. This web browser doesn’t need to be installed; as soon as you lunch the .EXE file, a 3D browser appears where you can visit web pages and experience a ‘Vista’ style to see frames and navigate through them.

Having multiple windows with a 3D effect can be useful if, for example, you have to make a presentation and you need to compare things at a given moment. When you want to open a page in full screen, just double click on it or you may as well use the carousel function which appears at the bottom of the page when you hover the mouse there.

Zooming in and out is also very nicely implemented and very useful especially if you have to focus on something during your presentation or your work. As you can imagine, SpaceTime requires lots of system resources and for this reason, I don’t see it as an alternative to your standard web browser. To open a new web page, simple type a new URL in the address field, without having to press CTRL-T or CTRL-N. Actually, with the latter key combination, you open a navigator tool, useful to browse through the pages.

Navigate the World Wide Web in a 3D style, like the way you manage windows in Windows Vista. It’s really catchy and entertaining and it’s perfect for presentations, although it wouldn’t be a suitable replacement for your usual browser because of its slowness and system requirements.

Truveo Video Manager lets you search for online videos about any topic you want. Simply type a keyword in the search bar to instantly have access to YouTube, MySpace, Dailymotion, MSN Videos, CNN, CNBC and many more video databases.

Although you might get an extensive number of results, these are really not very well organised. They are not displayed as thumbnails, nor divided between content providers for example, the way you navigate through them is very slow indeed, as you can display just two videos at a time and you browse through them by pressing the 'next' buttonfound in the top of the frame. The first time you use the program, you don’t even notice how many videos there are available as the relative indicator is written in blue on a blue background. Then you see 'video 2 of 100' at the top-right part of you screen and you realize that thankfully there’s more for you to see.

Although you can’t download the videos and there is no way to navigate through them in a non linear way, Truveo Video Manager lets you see hundreds of clips about any subject you want by using a simple searching tool.

We've all heard of MySpace. It is a social networking website where users can post online profiles of themselves and interact with other MySpace users. SaferSpace protects younger users from the adult content on MySpace.

SaferSpace is a very simple program that will keep your children from accessing the popular MySpace website. SaferSpace keeps a close eye on your computer and whenever a user tries to access the MySpace website SaferSpace will immediately deny access to the MySpace website.

Let's face it: most of us have more online accounts than we can control. Email addresses, instant messaging clients, social networking sites… do you really have time to catch up with all of them?

Mail, Hotmail, Facebook, MySpace and more. Despite the amount of supported services, they're presented in a very clear, uncluttered interface and organized in tabs. You'll be able to chat with your buddies via IM and also check and organize your email without even having to open your browser. Everything worked fine except for Facebook, which kept on showing a "Connecting…" message though the widget was up and working on my Facebook profile. My ICQ account didn't seem to respond either, but I guess it's got something to do with the fact that Digsby is still in beta stage.

Digsby saves chat history, supports file transfer and features an extended settings menu from which you can tweak the program's appearance and performance. The only drawback I found, besides the Facebook connectivity issue, was the lack of speed when starting the program and logging in. But then again, it's well worth it.

With Digsby you'll be able to manage all your online accounts for email, IM and social networks under a single interface, making it much easier and faster for you to stay in touch with your friends.

A while ago there was an application called Mercora IM Radio that tried to mix real-time music streaming with social elements, creating a community of users around their favorite songs and bands.

Sure the idea rings you a bell – the popular Last.fm website is also based on this idea of mixing social communities and music. Following the successful trend of social networking sites, Mercora has now launched a completely revamped application under the name of Social.fm.

Social.fm works as a music player, MP3 manager and socializing desktop client. After registering for free, you start streaming music right away – and you can also listen to other people's music libraries. The program features a sleek, elegant dark interface, but it takes a while to get used to it due mainly due to overwhelming information. It even features a a Coverflow-style album cover browser and a playlist creation tool.

Music quality is quite good for an audio streaming service, with the odd pause for buffering as you could expect. As for social features, we couldn't fully test them because we had no friends (that is, on Social.fm) but you can invite friends by email or use the embedded user search tool. The program also features support for comments and Facebook and MySpace integration.

Social.fm is a social networking music manager that lets you stream music online and also discover new styles and bands by listening to other people's streaming radio stations.

The program displays a slick interface, perfectly organized in different areas: a media browser, a video preview window and also special tools dedicated to edit and mix audio loops. The first time you launch the program you'll be able to play a sample mix, which, along with some useful tooltips displayed on the interface's right side, are a great help to get you started. The only drawback to this interface would be that the actual working space is too small and makes it a bit uncomfortable to use.

TrakAxPC includes some audio loops that you can use in your musical creations, but sadly no video loops. In any case, you can buy new loops online from the program itself or rip certain fragments from your music CDs with TrakAxPC's built-in ripper.

An excellent audio and video mixer, with great tools for advanced users but also easy enough for everyone to use.

The best overall thing about Dizzler Media Player is that it works as a media center that integrates into a single interface. I also liked the fact that there are hundreds of community skins for you to choose from with some pretty stunning designs compared to your average media player.

One other bonus is that Dizzler features some excellent tutorials. Click on the option feature on your player and then click on the help option. There is a video and a tutorial to help you with the most basic features of the Dizzler Player.

This is an interesting concept and a great media player although you can't help feeling that it tries to pack too much into one program. The video features alone are sufficient reason to download it.
