gBrainy 1.00

Following the trend of brain workout games started by the popular Brain Training on the Nintendo DS platform, here comes gBrainy, a pack of games that will challenge your brain in different ways.

This game is actually a port of a Linux-based game, but it works fine on Windows too. It includes a bunch of questions and exercises classified into three categories: Logic puzzles, Mental calculation exercises and Memory trainers. gBrainy features a simple, clear design which means you shouldn't expect bright colors or spectacular graphical effects. It's just a plain window where the game displays questions and you simply enter the correct answer (or at least the one you think is correct).

Talking about right answers, this is precisely what you may not like about gBrainy. I don't know if it was because of my personal dislike for maths, but I was a complete failure in Calculation and Logic exercises. Well, at leas I did way better at the Memory ones.

You can pause the game at any point, and when you stop it you get quite complete statistics about your performance and results, as long as some tips to improve your score next time you run the game.

gBrainy is a plainly designed game that helps you improve your logic skills with different types of exercises.

Download gBrainy 1.00 in Softonic

Caisses 1.21

If you've ever dreamed about working in a warehouse (and I know I have on many occasions), then the chances are you used to love playing Sokoban. Although, you probably didn't know it was called Sokoban, but it's the one where you have to push boxes in a straight line into a designated space.

Well, the game is still alive and kicking, and is widespread on mobile devices. Caisses is one of the more interesting clones I've come across though, and provides amazing depth considering it's a piece of freeware.

Your basic aim is the same old story - you're a warehouseman who must shuffle parcels around. You can only push the boxes in a straight line, and you can't push more than one box at a time. As a result, the gameplay is very addictive, but certainly not very original.

The best thing about Caisses is the fact that you can customise the game to the n-th degree. Not only can you choose from a bevy of cool backgrounds, but there are loads of game themes to choose from too. For instance, you can choose to play as Pac-Man, Zangeif, a nurse, or even the Linux penguin, and the objects you push change accordingly.

It gets pretty tough as you progress through the 500 levels, so it would've been nice to see some kind of hints feature, but the challenge of getting your head around the hundreds of puzzles is enough to keep you coming back for more.

The graphics aren't the best ever and because this version is ported from a mobile phone version, the game window is quite small.

Nevertheless, Caisses offers a fun way to test your brain during a break from your usual routine.

Download Caisses 1.21 in Softonic

The program's interface resembles that of the actual gaming device, featuring a double screen and support for touch technology, only that this time you use your mouse instead of the Nintendo stylus.

iDeaS allows you also to take snapshots of both screens and remap keys for a more comfortable game control.
Osu! Beta Build 86

Osu! is the PC version of a well-known Japanese rhythm game for the Nintendo DS. Osu! Tatake! Ouedan! challenged you to follow the beat of different songs by tapping with your stylus on the DS screen. It became so popular that they even released an English version called Elite Beat Agents.

Now the game lands on the PC platform with an excellent remake that works exactly the same way as the original title and includes some nice extra tools, like online rankings (which are said to come soon) and a great editor to create your own levels (beatmaps).

The game doesn't actually include any beatmaps: you have to download them from the official forum, which is kind of annoying, but at the same time lets you pick exactly the songs you like. Please read the note below to learn how to install beatmaps properly.

I must say this PC Osu! is way much harder than the original DS title. Playing with the mouse is really not the same as playing with the stylus, so I guess the best option here is to use a digital graphic tablet and pen –if you have one. Leaving that aside, the game has been very well adapted to the new platform, keeping the same level of addiction and extending its gameplay with the possibility to create your own Osu! levels.

Osu! is a must-have for all music games fans: easy, fast, challenging and very fun!

Download Osu!
DeSmuME 0.7.3

The GameBoy has come a long way since we first saw that big white and grey block at the end of the last century. Its great, great, great grandson, the Nintendo DS is now even more powerful than the high-tech machines doing the rounds in the arcades of the early Nineties. In fact, it's so good that sometimes you'll want to play with it in the office, which obviously you can't. Well, actually you can. Actually you can't. Well, you sort of can. Let me explain...

DeSmuME is a Nintendo DS emulator that allows you to play games on your PC using DS ROM files, which you can download from the Internet. Trouble is, downloading these files is illegal, so on your own head be it if the FBI van rolls up outside your house. Legalities aside, this is a pretty decent emulator, which was orginally designed for games programmers to develop and test their latest creations. It can be a little tricky to set up, but once running you'll be able to enjoy a huge selection of games in ROM format. But if the Feds ask, don't tell them it was me who told you.

Download DeSmuME 0.7.3 in Softonic

The game offers an adventure that players can follow from either a hero or villain perspective. In between card clashes, detailed comic book scenes tell the game's story.

Tatakae! Ouendan! or its English version under the name of Elite Beat Agents, then you know what ClickBeat is all about.

The mission in this original music game is quite simple: click on the buttons you'll see on your screen, as they appear following the rhythm of the background song. You must follow both the numbers order and the music's rhythm.

As you progress through levels, songs will be faster and you'll need loads of concentration to follow the pace of music and click on all buttons in the correct order at the same time.

ClickBeat stands out for its visual appeal, but above all, for its soundtrack.

Download ClickBeat in Softonic
