Opera Mini is a mobile web browser designed to help you browse the web in comfort and at high speeds on your phone.

Version 6 of the pint-sized program has borrowed much more from its desktop-based big brother, so if you enjoy using Opera on your PC or Mac then you can now look forward to a similarly smooth ride on your mobile with Opera Mini.

The user interface in Opera Mini 6 is more usable than ever. The hub of the app is the Speed Dial feature, where you can set one-click shortcuts for up to nine of your favorite sites. Just like in the desktop version, these display thumbnail previews of the sites to make things as clear and simple as possible.

Opera Mini utilizes a tab-based interface, meaning that you can load multiple pages at once simply by clicking on the plus arrow in the top right-hand corner. Version 6 includes the ability to open links in the background, just by holding down a link and selecting 'Open in new tab'.

Navigating with Opera Mini

Other navigational aids include an auto-complete feature in the address bar, and a built-in search bar. Unfortunately this search bar only supports Google and is not customizable with other search engines.

Viewing pages in Opera Mini 6 is a delight. As with the previous version, you can opt to view the whole web page on screen or simply tap to zoom in to a particular area. The latest version finally adds support for pinch-to-zoom, provided you have a multi-touch device that supports this feature. If not, you can zoom incrementally.

Other features

For those who love to tinker around with stuff, Opera Mini 6 is sure to please because the program is simply rammed with options. You can alter image quality, font size, and screen orientation, and there is a wealth of privacy settings too. As you'd expect, there's also support for bookmarks and browser history. Opera Mini 6 adds support for sharing links via Facebook, Twitter or email.

Unlike the latest desktop version, Opera Mini doesn't support extensions. This is a shame, because it would be great if developers could add functionality to the browser through third party plug-ins, as they can with Firefox Mobile.

Load times in Opera Mini are as impressive as ever thanks to Opera's unique server-side rendering technology. It compresses images and graphical elements before delivering them to you. This makes pages quicker to load, and is ideal for those who pay for data by the KB. If you want a more all-singing, all-dancing web experience then try <taglink type="program" country="en" id="37482">Opera Mobile</taglink> instead, which doesn't compress pages like Opera Mini, and which supports HTML 5.

Opera Mini 6 is one of the leanest mobile browsers around, delivering pages quickly but not skimping on features.

Download Opera Mini 7.1 (S60 2nd) in Softonic

Opera Mini Next 7.0.1

Note: Opera Mini Next is no longer available for download. You can download the latest version of Opera Mini for Symbian devices <taglink type="program" country="en" id="303717">here</taglink>.

Opera Mini Next is a preview version of the Opera Mini and Mobile browsers. Opera Mini Next allows you to preview the upcoming changes in the browser before they are added into the main apps.

The biggest change for Opera Mini Next is a new start page when you start the app where it is capable of learning your common sites and content. Once the app has enough data it will show the content automatically.

The app installs separately from the standard Mini and Mobile apps, so you can have them installed at the same time. Opera Mini Next is a test version so it has a tendency to be unstable. Some options in Opera Mini Next may not work correctly and some websites do not function as they should.

Opera Mini Next is an insight into the work that Opera is doing with their browsers, but is not recommended for casual users.

Download Opera Mini Next 7.0.1 in Softonic

UC Browser 8.6.0.199 (S60 3rd Edition)

UC Browser is a workable internet browser for Symbian.

With browsing sites online, one of the biggest concerns is the time it takes for pages to load. UC Browser works well in quickly processing sites for quick viewing, and it actually is not the software that makes viewing a problem, it is the hardware.

UC Browser can easily reformat sites to fit the screen on various Symbian devices, but the problem is that most sites cannot easily be viewed in portrait mode and most sites have to be read in landscape view.

Supporting tabbed browsing, UC Browser is a workable browser. It is not the most full functioned browser released, but if reading text is the goal, then UC Browser is the best browser to use. It does not work well with a site including a lot of multimedia as that slows page loading down noticeably.

Simplicity is the most important trait of UC Browser. The main screen contains a simplistic layout with customizable quick tabs. Website will display differently from their desktop versions, so do not be surprised with the large visual difference in the browser.

UC Browser is a easy to use web browser that functions with a text friendly interface.

Download UC Browser 8.6.0.199 (S60 3rd Edition) in Softonic
