SteamPac is a new version of Pacman with a steampunk feel to it.

Steampunk is a genre created in the 80s and 90s that incorporates science fiction, fantasy, and horror elements. It involves a setting where steam power was the main form of energy, and is often portrayed in a Victorian era England setting.

SteamPac consequently has a nicely grungy steampunk feel to its graphics, and lets users play in 2D and 3D modes. The gameplay is identical to the original Pacman game. You troll around a simple maze, eating little balls and trying to avoid the ghosts who are out to kill you. Turn the tables on the ghosts by eating power balls and chasing after them as well.

The 3D mode of SteamPac is actually really cool, since the camera follows you around as you move Pacman through the maze.

SteamPac is a breath of fresh air in the genre of Pacman games.

Download SteamPac 1.0 in Softonic

MameUI (formerly Mame32) is the GUI version of the Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator (MAME).

MameUI is an emulator application designed to recreate the hardware of classic arcade game systems on modern computers. With it, you can play arcade classics such as Double Dragon, Outrun and Pacman.

MameUI was originally authored under the name Mame 32 in 1997 by Chris Kirmse and was the first port of MAME to the Windows platform. However, development long since finished and MameUI is currently in maintenance mode with no active development.

However, it has been succeeded by IV/Play (pronounced "four play") which is a new desktop oriented GUI front-end for MAME. It was designed and commissioned as an alternative to
MameUI. Advantages include a narrow and particular feature-set, it is keyboard driven, and it utilises many of the navigation and short cuts of MAMEUI. It is targeted towards Windows 7 users with leveraged features like Jump List support.

MameUI is an excellent arcade classics emulator although the lack of further development and the arrival of IV/Play make it somewhat obsolete nowadays.

Download MameUI 142.5.2 in Softonic

Pacman Worlds 1.0

If you wish someone would bring Pacman a little more up to date, then you may find Pacman Worlds adds the dimension you've been looking for.

In Pacman Worlds, you have to guide Pacman around a series of themed worlds, collecting Hidden and protected Gems in a world where the ghosts have taken over. These ghosts don't just chase you however - each ghost has special earthly powers depending on its color.

The Red ghost has fiery powers that will burn pellets (and Pacman too!), the Yellow ghost is aligned with Air, the Blue to Water, and the Purple to Earth all empowering them with different skills. Not only this, but there are other ghosts in Pacman Worlds that just generally chase you around and make life a pain.

The big bonus of Pacman Worlds of course is that he's not limited to the one dimensional course of old. This Pacman travels through towns, fields, forests, icecaps, mountains and battles baddies along the way such as Pirate Ships, Ancient Trees, Snow Giants, and Dragons. To help him on his quest, Pacman has special abilities such as powerups and there are even mini-games within the game to spice things up.

Although the simplistic charm of the original has been slightly lost in Pacman Worlds, it will still appeal to any die hard fan of the classic game.

Download Pacman Worlds 1.0 in Softonic

Blockman Gets 1.0

There are lots of PacMan-like games and clones out there, but it's a rare thing to find an original take on the idea.

Blockman Gets takes the ghosts out, and makes the game a kind of logic puzzle instead. You now play Blockman, who suitably is square not round, and he still wants to eat dots. With no ghosts to avoid, it should be plain sailing, but now the hungry Blockman dies the moment he moves into space without a dot.

Every level gives you a target of dots to eat before you can move on. You move around one dot at a time, and you can never go backwards, as you can only go where there are still dots. Eat a pill, and the maze refills all the dots. There are more additions too, like boulders, that need to be moved around without crushing Blockman.

The gameplay is really simple, and the new concepts are well explained in-game as they appear. It's difficult at first not to try and play the game like PacMan, but you are quickly killed doing this, so your tactics soon change!

Blockman Gets' presentation is clear and simple, and while there is nothing flashy about the graphics, they don't spoil the interesting gameplay.

If you enjoy puzzles, try Blockman Gets which is an addictive and fresh take on a classic genre.

Download Blockman Gets 1.0 in Softonic

Namco All-Stars Pac-Man Demo

Pac-Man must have been released on every conceivable platform since it's original arcade conception. Namco All-Stars Pac-Man is an official version that brings the original gameplay with a bit of polish and some extra nostalgia.

This demo is limited to only 30 minutes play, unfortunately, but that's long enough to be reminded about what made Pac-Man so popular. There are two visual modes, classic and enhanced, though the gameplay stays identical in both. It's easily controlled with cursor keys, and in fact may be easier than with a joystick.

The sound may come as a shock. Namco seem to have produced the sound effects to make you feel like you're playing an arcade cabinet, which is quite cool. The shocking thing is how grating the effects are in general - this is not a game you want to play loud! There's nothing wrong with Namco All-Stars Pac-Man, so if you like the game, you'll enjoy this faithful incarnation.

Namco All-Stars Pac-Man is as close as you are likely to get to traveling back in time to an arcade to play Pac-Man!

Download Namco All-Stars Pac-Man Demo in Softonic

Thrust Xtreme is a slightly updated version of the ancient Thrust arcade. It brings some Geometry Wars-style color to the action, but otherwise, nothing has changed!

On every planet you must pilot your ship down to the surface or below, and retrieve the Klystron pod. Every planet has defenses, that have to be defeated on your way.

What makes Thrust Xtreme difficult, like the original, is controlling your ship using thrust against gravity. It's a game that requires steady nerves and a light touch. Navigating some of the passages is hard enough, but add enemy turrets, and a payload to tow and things get really awkward! Tough the ground or a wall, and you lose one of only three lives, and there is no save game. It's unforgiving!

Perhaps the reason Thrust is not as well remembered as Space Invaders or Pacman is because it's such a slow and challenging game. It's worth playing, and if you like the concept, Thrust Xtreme is really well made. It's definitely an acquired taste, though!

Thrust Xtreme has a cool retro look, and super hard retro gameplay to match. If you have never played it, try, but be prepared for lots of dying

Download Thrust Xtreme 1.1 in Softonic

Sonic Games is a set of classic arcade games with the famous blue hedgehog as protagonist.

From the main program's page you can select among 7 games listed in the game menu. The titles sound exciting: Sonic 3D Snowboarding, Sonic Character Designer, Sonic Lost in Mario World, Sonic Pacman, Sonic Tetris, Sonica and Ultimate Sonic.

Sonic Games lacks basic functions, like pause, but at least the game's frame is resizable. The idea of a collection of Sonic Games is really nice, but it's a pity that the playability is as good in the original MegaDrive version and that the graphics are so scarce.
They would probably be still enjoyable on mobile devices, but on Windows, the Sonic Games experience ends up being pretty boring.

If you are a fan of Sonic, you might want to have this set of Sonic Games for Windows, but mainly for collection purposes rather than to play with them as both graphics and playability are pretty poor.

Download Sonic Games 1.0 in Softonic

Your goal is to avoid ancient curses and mummies, collect all the gold and win back the artefact for mankind!
