Introduction

PhotoFiltre is a relatively small application and unlike Photoshop, will install and launch very quickly. The interface, loaded with all the features and options, can be confusing at first glance but you'll soon get used to it. The right side is composed of the shape and drawing tools and an optimizable color palette. The top bar has all the essential image editing and modification options. PhotoFiltre sadly doesn't let you customize the interface and choose your favorite tools.

Features

Among all the image modification tools, of particular usefulness is the quick contrast/hue and saturation buttons because you can check out the effects and immediately and easily correct the image if you're not satisfied with its quality. If you trust PhotoFiltre, you can also let it adjust these parameters automatically.

Like any self-respecting image editing application, PhotoFiltre includes the most widely used filters to transform your image, but if you need to make really significant changes, you'll find yourself limited. Furthermore, unlike Photoshop, PhotoFiltre doesn't include layers, making it more challenging to work on different elements of the image separately.

Like the excellent free image viewer Irfanview, PhotoFiltre covers the majority of image formats and can batch process and convert images rapidly. PhotoFiltre has five different zoom options yet they seem to be more or less similar. The magnifier is probably less precise than the drop down percentage pane, and the auto zoom adjusts the image’s size according to PhotoFiltre's window size.

The image explorer is located at the bottom of the screen, and if you set it according to your image file you'll be able to quickly preview all your pictures. However, if you work with multiple image files, it can quickly become confusing, as you’ll have to open up an explorer tree pane every time to look for your pictures.

Full of features

Photoscape includes just about everything you need to view, optimize, edit, print and have fun with your photos. In fact, it's so complete that many would call it a free Photoshop alternative. Sure, it's not quite up to the level of Photoshop, but it's truly a great alternative to Adobe's big shot - and it makes photo editing a lot more fun!

Easy to use

From the program's main window you can choose what you want to do: view pictures, optimize those that didn't come out so well, print several photos on a single page collage-style or perhaps add any of the dozens of filters and special effects included in the program.

Like other free photo editing programs such as Photoscape, FireAlpaca includes a variety of different tools that let you view, optimize, edit and print your digital images.

Although it's not quite as comprehensive as a paid photo editing program like Photoshop, FireAlpaca comes with a surprising amount of tools, some of which include a color picker and a good variety of special effects and filters.

FireAlpaca's interface is easy to navigate and simple to use if you are familiar with photo editing at all. If you're a beginner, it might take some time to figure out which features do what to your photos. This will just take a bit of experimenting on your part. Fortunately, FireAlpaca also provides helpful tips and hints via pop-up on occasion if you need them.

FireAlpaca makes its money to continue developing the program through advertising. While it's a necessary evil, it can be a little annoying to have to deal with ad pop-ups every time you launch the program.

For a free alternative to Photoshop that lets you edit and customize digital images with ease, FireAlpaca is a solid option.

Speed your workflow

This app bases its approach in smoothing and slim-lining your digital photography workflow. Weren't aware you had a workflow? Well then Corel AfterShot Pro probably isn't the app for you. Try taking a look at Picasa or Photoscape instead. But if improved photos workflow sounds like what you need, then read on. Corel AfterShot Pro is a great app.

If you work with large numbers of photos that you need to process quickly and smoothly, Corel AfterShot Pro has been designed with you in mind. It's got excellent photo management and organization features, meaning that you can find the photos you want easily and quickly. The Corel AfterShot Pro interface is attractive and user-friendly, which adds to the speed with which you can process your photos.

RAW photo editing

Corel AfterShot Pro supports a lot of photo formats, including RAW, and offers complete RAW processing. Obviously, it also offers all the usual tweaks and modifications, and all of your options are handily available through the tabbed bar that runs vertically to the right. Change the view using the buttons to the top right, and navigate through your stored photos on the left.

Impressive speed

Obviously, with all the emphasis on ease of use and speed, Corel AfterShot Pro offers extremely speedy batch processing, meaning all your photos can be public-ready in a matter of seconds. It also offers a selection of output options and templates, which makes it even easier to share the final product with clients or third parties.

Corel AfterShot Pro is a great program that's definitely aimed at professional-level photographers or at least experienced individuals with a high volume of images. It doesn't offer any fancy extras, and in certain areas, such as drawing tools, that's actually a pity. What Corel AfterShot Pro lacks in nice touches, however, is more than made up for by its sheer speed and ease of batch processing and high-volume editing.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that Sharp IMG Viewer is a graphics editor like Photoshop. It’s actually a flexible, well-organized way of managing the technical – rather than creative – side of your photos.

When you open Sharp IMG Viewer, you’ll be able to open your folders of photos and browse through them, viewing each image in the main interface. You can access some of the program’s functions by right-clicking on the image tab, while the rest of the features and tools are available through the menu options and icons in the top bar.

Among the tasks you’ll be able to carry out with Sharp IMG Viewer are changing the file type, basic editing (such as rotating images and applying color filters), as well as viewing photo metadata and performing basic video operations, such as saving a frame and creating GIFs.

Sharp IMG Viewer feels old-fashioned. It works well and has tons of features, but there are so many other tools – such as Photoscape and GIMP – that do pretty much the same job, and then some. Even so, Sharp IMG Viewer does exactly what it says it will, so if it offers features that are perfect for your needs, don’t hesitate to download.
