First of all, bear in mind that this app was originally written for another operating system, which means that the Windows version, according to the author's own words, is not as stable as the original one. In fact I got the odd error message while testing it, but other than that, the program worked fine. Transfer speed was excellent, along with the array of tools the program puts at your disposal to handle torrent files. Also, the program was totally unobtrusive for the user and very light on resources.

Deluge features a clear, uncluttered interface where you can easily manage all your file transfers and see information about each one of them. Also, the program's configuration settings enable you to tweak its behavior in great detail: you'll be able to limit bandwidth usage, configure a proxy server and also enable special plug-ins to add extra functionality to the program.

In all, Deluge is a powerful, easy-to-use BitTorrent client that's worth a try and will hopefully improve its stability under Windows in future releases.

Download Deluge 1.0.0 RC 3 in Softonic

Newsman Pro 2.7.0.9

Much as you'd be led to think otherwise following the massive rise of RSS, Usenet is still alive and kicking. This application is designed to make it quick and easy for you to read usenet feeds and access binary newsgroups.

Benefits of NewsMan include:

Clean, easy-to-use interface

Designed not only to be good-looking, but also to make browsing and downloading from Usenet easy and enjoyable. Comes with eight different Themes and is also designed to work well with third-party skinning programs like StyleXP and Windowblinds.

Full support for text and binary newsgroups

You can read text newsgroups effortlessly and store articles as long as you want in the database. NewsMan also fully supports binary newsgroups and decodes Mime, UUE and yEnc encoded messages in a separate background thread to minimize CPU usage.

Multiple Server Support

True multi-server support gives you the ability to download headers from your best, most complete news server and download articles from any servers that you have access to. Servers can be prioritized so that article bodies are downloaded from your least expensive server first. In addition, if you exclude a server from the priority list, Newsman treats it like a "private server" where headers and articles are processed only through that server.

Full support for NZB files

NZB files (www.newzbin.com ) save you time by allowing you to download binaries without retrieving headers. Newsman Pro gives you full support for NZB files by allowing you to import multiple files at once within the program. NZB messages are placed into a separate virtual group. You can also associate NZB files with Newsman Pro and Newsman will import them when you open the files in Windows Explorer.

Robust multi-threaded architecture

Downloading, header processing, attachment processing, Automation, Scheduled Tasks and Trash purging processing all happen in their own threads. Newsman can perform many tasks simultaneously allowing you to do several things at once.

Download Newsman Pro 2.7.0.9 in Softonic

It allows people to share files anonymously with their community of friends and open encrypted chat, based on the web-OpenSSL protocol.

When you launch the program for the first time, you need to select a username and password, and create a ‘certificate’ by clicking the relative button. The certificate is what you send to your friends so that they can accept you in their network. In order to know what your unique code is, go to the Friend menu, select your name and choose the Export Friend option.

You can also add a user, by clicking the Invite Friend tool. Before joining a group or accepting someone, your certificate needs to be approved, or ‘trusted’. These are all procedures you can do from the ‘Friend’ menu.

Retroshare opens up a new way to exchange files with friends. Its tagline is, is “no more P2P, peer-to-peer, but F2F or friend-to-friend”. MS Outlook stores Contact data (Name, Address, E-mail, etc.) on the local computer in a .pst file, which makes it difficult to exchange this data with other systems or applications. With GeniusConnect, you can export your Outlook contact data to a database and also load data from the database into an Outlook contact folder.

It is also possible to use GeniusConnect on multiple Outlook Contact Folders and multiple databases and users can optionally protect private contact data by using a different Contact Folder or by telling GeniusConnect to ignore Contacts that are marked as private. GeniusConnect consists out of several COM objects, adds a new toolbar and becomes an integral part of Outlook after installation.

Wuala is an online drive, accessible from anywhere. Based on P2P technology, it stores encrypted versions of your documents around the Wuala network, so that they will always be available to you with no risk of server breakdown. Thanks to a multi-download system (as bytes of your files are located on different PCs of the network), you will access your files quickly. The program in itself is highly usable and has a pleasant design. All the files you store are set as private by default but if you need to share them with your friends, groups or with the whole network, you can do that easily by changing their availability.

The downsides are that you need the application installed to access your files, and this may be a problem when you are not at home or in the office. Furthermore, in order to use more than 1GB of storage you need to make the same amount of space available on your own hard-disk, for sharing over the network. I.E. if you would like to store files of 50GB, you’d have to make 50GB available on your own hard-disk.

The application could come in handy for anyone who needs to regularly back up data. In that case, one would have a secure virtual disk, always available. For users who just need to have a limited online hard-disk, accessible from a web-page thus without any installation, there are simpler useful services, like eSnips.com.

Wuala is a potentially very interesting application for secure backups and sharing documents with a working group but some of its restrictions limit its utility.

Download Wuala Alpha in Softonic

The program itself works as a simple server that is responsible for issuing, via the Internet, a flow of images captured by the webcam installed and pre-configured on your system. Thanks to this server, you can connect to your camera from your mobile phone, available through a Symbian application
here</ link>. The problem is that the service is not particularly stable - you'll often suffer dropped images, slow loading times and sometimes complete crashes. On the plus side, the interface is extremely user friendly meaning that even the most novice user should have no problems setting using it. The setup process in particular is very straightforward. A more important question for me though is why you'd want to control your webcam from your mobile. The only feasible use I can think of is for home security or monitoring who is using your computer in which case, you'll find this an easy to use if not hugely reliable solution.

An easy way to control your webcam from your mobile although don't expect it to hold the connection.

Download LiveStream Broadcaster 3.0 in Softonic

The focus of this program is security. OpenVPN provides many options for controlling the security of the VPN client but it also provides options for protecting the security of the server itself. The big advantage is that it's a cross-platform app so it doesn't what matter which type of computer the users are using and it offers excellent stability and scalability for hundreds or even thousands of clients. Installation is also simple and it supports both dynamic IP addresses and NAT. The developers claim that they have worked hard to make it responsive in terms of both normal operation and error recovery. What I liked most is that if it drops the connection, within 5 minutes it will reconnect although this is rather too long for my liking. If you could reduce this to just a few seconds, it would be much more useful as no one wants to hang around 5 minutes for their VPN to connect again.

SopCast 2.04

As we wrote in reviews for PPLive and TVU Player, television via streaming P2P is part of the future of broadcasting. The two previously cited programs are good examples of the technology yet in Sopcast they might have found a more than worthy competitor. This streaming P2P television application offers a wide choice of channels in a very sleek looking interface, whilst letting you broadcast your very own TV program over the Internet.

Sopcast’s interface is easy enough for any type of user. You can register yourself on Sopcast, a prerequisite if you want to broadcast your program but if you just want to view TV, you can log in as an anonymous user. We found that Sopcast probably offers the widest choice of channels of all P2P TV streaming applications, and organizes them via categories like sports, news or gospel tv. To view a channel all you have to do is double click the one you want and it will open a Windows Media Player side window. This truly separates Sopcast from the rest of the P2P TV streaming applications. By playing the channels in Window Media Player it allows you to set the size of the screen, adjust sound levels, keep a history of channels viewed…basically everything you can do with the famous media player. Furthermore, Sopcast is the only P2P streaming TV application we encountered that allows you to configure settings like port selection (extremely useful to maximize the use of your bandwidth and get better quality playback) or select among 12 different languages.

Another of Sopcast’s major innovations is broadcasting your own TV program over the Internet. If you would like to produce a TV show, Sopcast gives you the chance to reach a very wide audience of Internet users. Once your program has been filmed, edited and is uploaded on your PC, all you have to do is stream it via Sopcast and select a server address to which people can connect and watch. The quality of the broadcast will very much depend on the number of people connected (the more users there are, the faster the video will stream). You can also create your own private channel and decide what users can watch it by creating a network group. Imagine having your very own broadcast just for you and your friends!

Sopcast is an excellent application that allows P2P streaming television to keep improving. Although the program tends to crash every now and then, Sopcast is fairly intuitive, offers a very wide choice of channels and uses Windows Media Player well. In addition it is the first program of its kind that allows you to broadcast your own channel over the web. Give it a try, you might just shelve your TV for good.

Download SopCast 2.04 in Softonic

The application works by capturing packets from your daily internet traffic, from which it creates a 3D garden where websites you visit are represented as plants and mountains. Basically, the more you visit a site the bigger a mountain it becomes. While the generated image looks and feels pretty raw, you can still go around the planet, take screenshots and see the IP tag for each element. Gardens you have created can also be saved and revisited later on.

Packet Garden still feels very much like a project in development. As previously said, graphics are pretty limited. Explanations on the generated environment are also lacking. Despite these shortcomings we quite like Packet Garden, which offers a very original perspective on your daily internet usage. More creative users will be able to generate very singular words rich of data.

Download Packet Garden 1.0 in Softonic

TeamSpeak Client 2.0.33.7

When playing multiplayer online games you usually need to communicate with your friends for different reasons: to design a strategy for your next assault or just to have a fun, relaxing chit-chat while killing enemies mercilessly. Many games feature a chat tool that allows you to exchange messages with other players, but typing a sentence while trying to stay alive in the game can be really annoying. The only solution then is using voice communication. It's easier, faster and far more comfortable than writing messages on a tiny chat window. And one of the best options for voice communications in multiplayer online games is TeamSpeak.

This piece of software comes in two separate applications, one to be used as a server and the other one as a client. You can therefore have your own private TeamSpeak server installed at home, which allows you to talk to your friends while playing with them in an absolutely private, secure way. As the server administrator, you have the right to create and delete user accounts, set different privileges for each one of them, ban any given user or password protect the access to the server, just to mention a few.

As for the client application, it's very easy to use. Just enter the required connection data (server's address, nickname and password if needed) and you're done. You can either enter the IP address of your own private server or use any of the hundreds of public TeamSpeak servers available on the Internet, which you can conveniently browse directly from your client. Both TeamSpeak server and client feature a simple, straightforward design that, in all honesty, could be improved a lot. The program's interface is just too basic: a bare window with no graphic elements at all and quite schematic menus that make you think something has been left out.

The program stays minimized in the system tray and uses few system resources. The voice quality is excellent. Also, you'll find some interesting settings in the program's configuration menu, such as the possibility to adjust its bandwidth usage or the option to activate the microphone only when you speak, though this may be a little tricky to configure at first sight.

Needless to say, you can use TeamSpeak with any online game you play, as it's a totally independent application. So next time you meet your friends online to play, forget about messy written conversations right in the middle of a crucial battle and move on to TeamSpeak. You'll enjoy the game a lot more.

Download TeamSpeak Client 2.0.33.7 in Softonic

Search Engine Composer provides an easy way to add search capabilities to your web site. No set-up is required on the server, so all you need to do is index your web site, and upload the files generated by the program. Then your site search engine is ready to run.

You can schedule Search Engine Composer to automatically index, build the search engine, and upload the files to the web server on a regular basis. With the scheduler, you can automatically update the search engine daily, weekly or monthly.

All indexed data of your web site and everything the search engine needs will be located on your own server, thus keep your data private and security. And because there are no any references to other websites, you will get the best performance.

Download Search Engine Composer 5.4 in Softonic

The program gives you the power to instantly send messages, files, reminders, and alerts on your network.

Unlike instant messaging, SnapMail uses peer-to-peer technology and does not rely on Internet servers to send mail within your local network. This makes SnapMail a very fast in-house messaging system that complements your Internet email. All of your messaging can be conducted without fear of accidentally sending mail out of your company.

In addition, there is no junk mail and no non-company e-mailing. You can be sure that everything in SnapMail is company business. SnapMail also connects remote offices securely across the Internet, creating a "virtual LAN."

SnapMail is plug and play software. It installs in a minute and is immediately usable. SnapMail automatically configures itself and finds other users on the network without the need for system administration.

Download SnapMail 5.0 in Softonic
