iSpy 5.0.9

iSpy is a free, open-source webcam monitoring and surveillance program.

It distinguishes itself by being free, without skimping on options. In fact, iSpy is hugely flexible, and all but the most demanding users will find that it offers enough to happily meet their needs. The interface is a little strange (the top half looks great, but the bottom is old-fashioned), and the program takes up a huge amount of RAM. But these problems aside, it's a really impressive piece of software.

iSpy can be configured to work with various input sources, whether a conventional webcam, IP cam, capture card, desktop camera or microphone, all with a view to monitoring your home and making sure everything is well. Setting up a camera for iSpy is easy - in all probability, it will automatically detect your device, but if it doesn't, there's a handy wizard to help you along the way.

The iSpy interface is completely configurable, but the default layout gives you a main feed on the top, the movement captures beneath, and quick options to the side. It's also accessible from the taskbar, and remotely, provided you have an active iSpy subscription.

Although iSpy is ready to go from the moment you install it, it's really worth taking a look at the configuration options and settings. Although extensive, they're not complicated, and will really help you get the most from a very flexible app. Just bear in mind that for a lot of the program's features, you will need a paid account - primarily secured remote access, SMS, MMS, email alerts and mobile device access.

On the iSpy web site, there's a huge list of possible uses, and it certainly gives you food for thought. The program's options certainly back this up, as it's flexible enough to cater for all eventualities. The only problem we can see, in fact, is the resource-intensive usage.

When we tested iSpy, it seemed clear that only those using pretty powerful machines would be able to run it at the same time as other applications. Of course, as iSpy is mainly used for remote monitoring, that may not be a problem for all users, but it's worth bearing in mind.

iSpy is a very promising piece of surveillance software - but you'll need a subscription and a powerful PC to get the most from it.

Download iSpy 5.0.9 in Softonic

iTunes 11.0.3 (64 bits)

iTunes is an audio and video player that lets you manage your iOS devices as well as download content from the iTunes store.

<taglink type="image" id="itunes-22-245x187.png"></taglink>

iTunes 11 has been completely redesigned from the ground up. Development of iTunes has been stagnant the last few years so Apple needs to get this one right. Has Apple nailed it or is the new iTunes a mess? Read on to find out.
The interface of iTunes has been completely re-imagined. Everything is simpler and space is better utilized. In the previous version of iTunes, there was a persistent bar on the left where you can access playlists, albums, devices, and more. While it provided quick access to those features, most users didn't use them most of the time. Apple has scrapped this and has made the default album view take up the entire window.

Browsing by album is a pleasure. Click on an album and the tracks will show up below. iTunes also analyzes the color of album artwork to create a colored background for each individual album. It works well for the most part but the effect blurs the album art around the edges.

New in iTunes 11 is the "Up Next" feature, which is basically a fancy name for your queue. Add songs to your queue from wherever you are in the interface. You don't need to manage a playlist to arrange and rearrange the tracks to your liking.

Creating playlists is much improved. Instead of having to jump in and out a playlist to add and arrange tracks, playlists now have a dedicated pane on the right where you can manipulate tracks without having to jump around the program.

iCloud integration has also been tightened. Every track you've bought in iTunes will now show up in your music library, whether or not it has been downloaded. Click on it to download the album. User can now also stream directly from the cloud instead of having to download the track first. This also applies to all your TV and movies that were purchased in iTunes. There's also a dedicated tab for iTunes Match, Apple's music matching service to make all of your tracks available across devices, if they're available in the iTunes store.

The iTunes store has also gone through a redesign with featured content up top. Top lists are still there and are easier to browse. iTunes 11 will also allow you to access the iTunes store content from your music library, suggesting similar artists and tracks, without having to take you to the iTunes store.

The mini player has also been completely redesigned and is actually useful now. The mini player has gotten smaller but utilizes that small space much better than previous versions. Player controls will show up with you hover your mouse over the mini player. There's access to search and your Up Next queue can be manipulated from the mini player.

Devices now show up as a button at the top right. Clicking on it will take you to a detailed page where you can manage everything. Choose what you want synced, manage your apps, and even play music directly from your iOS device. Everything is easier to read and comprehend in the device tab.

The only thing missing from iTunes 11 is a music streaming service. iCloud gives users the ability to download tracks locally but not stream them. There is no subscription service in iTunes to compete with the likes of Spotify, Rdio, and Xbox Music. It's only matter of time before Apple releases its own music subscription service but it's disappointing that Apple didn't release it with iTunes 11.

iTunes is still one of the best media players around. It has gotten easier to use, feels less bloated, but is still missing a music subscription service.

Download iTunes 11.0.3 (64 bits) in Softonic

Internet Download Manager 6.15.12

Internet Download Manager is an excellent internet download accelerator that will care of all your downloads from the moment you install it on your PC.

High speed internet connections are common these days, but that doesn’t mean we don’t sometimes need help when it comes to downloading from the net. Even if you have the fastest router in the neighborhood, take a look at Internet Download Manager (also known as Idman), because it really has a lot to offer.

You can add new downloads from the Internet Download Manager interface, but it's more usual to let it capture links. This means that every time you click on a certain file type (which can be specified through configuration options), Internet Download Manager will handle the download itself rather than letting the browser do the job. Everything is automatic: no changing from one app to another, no copying and pasting, no hassle at all.

Once Internet Download Manager captures the link, you can either download the file right away or save it for later, which can be a good alternative if you need all of your bandwidth for the moment and plan to leave the computer on during the night. Downloads can be classified into custom categories before starting them and can also be resumed if the connection is lost or broken.

Speedy downloads

Internet Download Manager does accelerate downloads, although it all depends on your internet connection. That is, don’t expect to download at the speed of light if you’re still using one of those old-fashioned 56K modems. Internet Download Manager achieves quite satisfying download rates by using multiple thread connections with servers.

Internet Download Manager's configuration menu displays a wide range of functions and tools devoted to handling your downloads, such as checking files for viruses with your own antivirus or limiting the amount of bandwidth used by the program. There’s also support for server authentication and proxy, FTP and HTTPS servers.

Internet Download Manager does its job and does it well, so even if your internet connection speed is faster than usual, you should still give it a try.

Download Internet Download Manager 6.15.12 in Softonic

Amazon Cloud Player for PC is a streaming and desktop audio player for PC. The player accesses all your music purchased through Amazon.com, specifically using AutoRip for CDs and LPs you've previously purchased.

All of your purchases are available to stream and you can also download them locally and have the files auto imported into iTunes or Windows Media Player.

Simple streaming and local playback

Since the focus of Amazon Cloud Player for PC is to access your purchases of CDs, vinyl, and mp3s, having an Amazon account is required. Depending on how many albums or singles you've purchased, they will be loaded automatically into the app.

You can also designate a local folder to upload music into the player so your local library of music is accessible from the cloud. Amazon Cloud Player for PC also has the ability to create playlists and download your albums from the cloud to a local folder.

Designed for simplicity, there aren't many options, though you can manually adjust the size of the cache for streaming playback and restore removed music with a click.

It doesn't have access to the Amazon MP3 store directly from the app. Instead, it opens a new tab in a web browser.

Very easy to use

One of the best parts of Amazon Cloud Player for PC is that it's very easy to use. You are given all your albums in an easy-to-see grid layout by default, but you can change it to a list view to see individual songs.

If you start typing anywhere in the Amazon Cloud Player for PC window, it will automatically start searching for relevant songs or artists.

Downloading songs is simple. You drag-and-drop the album or songs into a small window on the right and the app starts downloading the songs.

Overall, Amazon Cloud Player for PC is a streamlined program for listening to music bought through Amazon.

Meant for simple playback

The design of Amazon Cloud Player for PC is meant for simplicity. The black background highlights the album covers, but if you are missing the album cover from music, then you only have a generic album icon.

There is also no equalizer or presets in Amazon Cloud Player for PC, so you have little control over the sound of your music.

Great for Amazon users

If you buy a lot of music through Amazon, then Amazon Cloud Player for PC is perfect for you.
LibreOffice 4.0.3 Final

LibreOffice is an all-in-one professional office productivity and management package for your PC.

In the same vein as other open source productivity suites like OpenOffice.org, LibreOffice boasts a comprehensive set of office management tools arguably on par with Microsoft Office itself. LibreOffice offers six different office management tools to meet your project management needs: Text Document, Spreadsheet, Presentation, Drawing, Database, and Formula.

Text Document is relatively synonymous with Microsoft Word, where Spreadsheet is like Excel. Presentation mirrors Microsoft's PowerPoint, and Database is similar to Access. Then you also have two additional programs in Drawing and Formula, which are an added bonus to the entire package. LibreOffice is compatible with Microsoft Office's document formats and also supports PDFs natively. It also has its own document format called Open Document.

Unfortunately, if you're unfamiliar with Microsoft Office products, this program might take a little additional time to get used to, particularly if you want to master some of its more advanced features. Regular Microsoft Office users will find LibreOffice's interface quite similar, however, and should pick up on how to use its various programs without too much difficulty.

A great alternative to Microsoft Office, LibreOffice is a must-try for managing your various office projects.

Download LibreOffice 4.0.3 Final in Softonic

Ubuntu 13.04

Ubuntu is the ultimate free operating system which us widely revered for it's ease of use and powerful features.

Ubuntu epitomizes everything that open source software is all about - free, quality software that works well and looks good. The latest version of Ubuntu "Maverick Meerkat" is packed with new features aimed at bringing Ubuntu to a wider market by making it easier than ever to use.

This download is for the Windows installer version of Ubuntu which installs Ubuntu on your system just like any other application you might install in Windows. It's the easiest and safest way of installing Ubuntu for the first time because you can easily remove it if you find you don't like it. If you do like it, you can download the desktop version which you'll then have to transfer to a CD or USB stick to install correctly.

Ubuntu allows you to do everything that Windows allows you to do with bonus that everything from the word processor to the e-mail client is free and it's fast. Ubuntu comes with Mozilla Firefox preinstalled although you can choose Google Premium from the fantastic Ubuntu Software Centre. One of the big stars of Ubuntu is Open Office which provides you with everything that Microsoft Office has. The IM client is Empathy IM and the mail client is Evolution Mail although you can install Skype and Thunderbird if you prefer. Other apps included in Ubuntu include Me Menu which gives you access to Facebook, Twitter and Identi.ca plus The GIMP, Flickr and Shotwell for image editing.

The major innovation in 10.10 however is the integration of a music store. Ubuntu's music player includes an integrated store, so you can buy and download new tracks. In addition, Ubuntu One's file-syncing means you can stream your music uninterrupted to your Android device or iPhone. This file syncing capability extends to other files and folders too. For video fans, you can still watch clips in YouTube, iPlayer, and MSN Player as well as play your own videos with Movie Player or you can use Pitivi to edit your videos. For game fans, there's lots of games to choose from in the Ubuntu Software Center including puzzles, adventures, strategy games and more - all for free.

One of the major benefits of Ubuntu however is simply its awesome speed. If you're used the the sluggishness of Windows, you're in for a treat. However, the major downside of Ubuntu is that it can be hard to get components in your PC to work with it. There is no driver center as such, meaning finding drivers to run your WiFi card, mouse-pad etc can be very hard. However, most newer laptops and PCs should have no problems being supported from the start.

Ubuntu is a fantastic example of how open source software can compete with the big guns. If you can get it working smoothly on your PC, you may never look back.

Download Ubuntu 13.04 in Softonic

Advanced SystemCare is a free, simple system optimizer that fixes the most common computer problems, such as Registry broken keys, hijacked settings, a fragmented hard drive or junk files taking too much space. Advanced SystemCare also includes security tools that can detect and remove spyware, as well as prevent any other undesirable elements from entering your system.

The interface in Advanced SystemCare can be a bit confusing at first. Instead of having a standard toolbar or menu system, the program shows a sphere structure on the left side pane that gives you access to the four main sections: Home, which is a summary of the program's usage stats; Maintain Windows and Diagnose System, which contain Advanced SystemCare's main tools to scan, repair and optimize the computer; and finally Utilities, a pack of small system tools that let you perform small fixing tasks, like defragging the hard drive, backing up drivers, finding duplicate files or finding out which programs are set up to run with Windows.

Advanced SystemCare is surprisingly quick. It hardly takes a few minutes to scan and fix your system, though it may take a bit longer when defragmenting the disk. In any case, Advanced SystemCare always creates a backup copy before fixing anything (as well as a restoration point the very first time you launch it) just to be on the safe side.

Advanced SystemCare is an easy-to-use, quick system analyzer and optimizer that fixes the most common computer problems and can make your PC faster and more stable.

Download Advanced SystemCare 6.2 in Softonic

It makes direct changes to your system registry and files to enhance memory, screen drawings, animations, refresh rates and CPU threading speeds. According to PCHeal's developers, it automatically adjusts settings and changes made based on computer specifications although it's hard to tell if anything really has been done or not after running the program.

There is also a deep system analyzer and diagnostic tool in PCHeal which attempts to find and repair any potential problems with the computer which is affecting its performance. PCHeal also focuses on over-clocking features to enhance memory and CPU priorities and there's an easy and intuitive user interface which performs all setting changes immediately. In reality, in the case of a major software conflict, there's little you can do but PCHeal offers some hope of at least recuperating some of your system's performance without uninstalling the guilty products.

Worth a try if you've experienced a major system failure although don't expect it to perform miracles.

Download PCHeal 2.5.6.2013 in Softonic
