Windows Phone 7 is designed to look and feel much better than existing devices, and from. One of the features of the new OS will be a completely redesigned user interface in keeping with the dark and futuristic visuals of Windows 7.

The Windows Mobile 7 Theme for devices running the current Windows Mobile OS is designed to make your screen look and feel like WM7. In reality, though it bears little resemblance to the new operating system, probably because the Windows Mobile 7 Theme was designed before Windows Phone 7 was announced (hence, the name isn't even the same!)

The Windows Mobile 7 Theme doesn't change your device much at all, merely adding a darker Today screen background. Although they're included a transparent Start menu, there's little else to excite in here, as all the other menus, command bars and nav bars remain unaltered.

The Windows Mobile 7 Theme furnishes you with a pretty stylish background image, but it is far from a carbon copy of the new Windows Phone 7 Series.

It can be easy to forget that Earth is not the center of the Universe and that there are billions of other stars and planets out there.

Install the 30 Doradus Theme and it'll be a constant reminder of the insignificance of our small planet. In case you didn't know, the 30 Doradus is a large star formation complex in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The main background wallpaper in this free theme, taken from the Hubble Space Telescope, shows just how beautiful this constellation is.

Aside from altering the background image on your Today screen, the 30 Doradus Theme also alters the colors of the top and bottom menu bars, and applies a reddish transparency to the Start menu, in keeping with the colors in the main image.

For some people winter is a horrid time, but others really enjoy the season as it's a chance to huddle in the warmth and light candles.

If you're the second type of person then you'll probably enjoy the December Feeling theme. Install this onto your Windows Mobile device and you'll get a lovely festive background image of a blue candle surrounded by holly and shiny baubles. The theme also includes a transparent Start Menu bar and it changes the navigation and status bars to a dark blue color.

It may not be the most exciting theme ever but December Feeling makes for a pretty seasonal skin for your Pocket PC.

I only ever seem to eat nuts around Christmas time, so it seemed quite fitting for me to install the Holiday Nutz Theme during this festive season.

The Holiday Nutz Theme features, as you might expect, a load of nuts strewn across the background of your Pocket PC. It's the typical selection you'd expect to see in a bowl in your house at Christmas, including hazelnuts, almonds and Brazil nuts.

The Holiday Nutz Theme also applies a new color scheme to your Today screen, adding a browny-colored Start menu and some fetching shiny brown menu bars at the top and bottom of the interface. The colors match very well with the main image, making this one of the more tasteful Windows Mobile Christmas themes I've seen.

That said, you may find the idea of having a bunch of nuts as your background wallpaper a bit boring.

These days it's not enough to just hang your stocking on the end of your bed at Christmas. It's the 21st Century now, so why not hang one out on your PDA too?

Luckily, if you install the Greetings 48 Theme on your Pocket PC, you won't have to wait for Santa to arrive, because the stocking in this background wallpaper is already filled with goodies. Besides this background image, Greetings 48 Theme also adds a new pink Start menu drop-down, and applies a red and white color scheme to the Windows Mobile interface.

The artwork in this one is pretty basic, but Greetings 48 Theme still makes for a fun festive theme.

The Windows Mobile 6.5 interface looks a darned-sight better than previous versions of the operating system. If you're still not happy with it though, or you've got bored of looking at it then check out the Splendid Space Theme.

This elegant theme transforms the look of your Windows phone, adding a cool black background wallpaper with swooshy effects. The background also shows up on the Start menu and any text that appears in front of it is perfectly visible.

Splendid Space Theme is not particularly exciting and doesn't offer anything in the way of new menu icons. What's more, the URL of the theme's creator is constantly displayed in the corner of the screen.

However, if you're looking for a black skin for your Windows Mobile device then Splendid Space Theme is worth a look.

Windows 7 has been a major improvement on Microsoft's previous operating system, Vista. Although the OS isn't available as a mobile OS, you can at least style your device around it using Se7en Look.

The theme, which is compatible with Windows Mobile 6.5 devices, transforms the user environment, giving it a fresh new look. The first thing you'll notice after installing Se7en Look is the high impact new start-up screen featuring the Windows 7 logo.

Se7en Look also overhauls the Today screen, adding a cool blue background with a giant '7' on it. Open the main menu and you'll notice that many of the system icons have been changed to fit in with the Windows 7 style. These are very impressive and will make your device look even more modern.

The Se7en Look theme is nothing like the new Windows Phone 7 OS in its design, but it does make for a refreshing new look.

If you're looking for a way to get your Pocket PC ready for the Holidays, then check out the Greetings 37 Theme.

This free Windows Mobile theme adds a great Christmas background wallpaper to your device. The enchanting, hand-drawn scene features a snow-covered village with a giant Christmas tree standing proud in it. The attention to detail in the scene is excellent, from the illuminated shop windows, to the little dog sniffing the cold winter air.

The Greetings 37 Theme also changes the color of the menu bars of your system's menu bars, adding a fetching royal blue color. Unfortunately, the theme is let down somewhat by its semi transparent Start menu. The white background gradient on the menu makes it difficult to see the white text behind it. It would've been much more sensible for the theme's designer to use black text here.

On the whole though, the traditional winter scene offered up by the Greetings 37 Theme makes this a good way to deck out your PDA for Christmas.

If you're a fan of Planet Earth (and let's face it, most humans are) then check out the World 400 Theme for Pocket PC.

The theme places a background wallpaper of a vector globe image onto your Windows Mobile device. Unfortunately, it's just an artist's impression rather than a satellite image of our planet, but it does look quite stylish, I guess. The World 400 Theme also darkens the blue menu colors and adds a new transparent Start menu.

If you've ever been to the island of Phuket then you'll know how beautiful the place is.

Now you can enjoy the serenity of the beautiful Thai island all day long, by installing the Phuket Theme on your Pocket PC. The theme adds a wallpaper image of a boat moored up on golden shores, floating on top of the crystal-clear sea. The Phuket Theme comes with a transparent Start menu and there are no problems with readability of the options.

Ultimately though, the image in the picture could be anywhere and it would've been nice to see more of the Phuket landscape in the wallpaper.

The Jumping Fish Theme has got to be one of the more surreal mobile skins I've seen. In fact, if Salvador Dali had a Windows Mobile device, I'm sure this would be the first thing he installed.

The principal image in Jumping Fish Theme features a plucky goldfish leaping out of the water. The wallpaper also features some weird egg-type objects and lots of squares with crosses on them floating about. Quite what all this means is anyone's guess.

The Jumping Fish Theme also alters the appearance of some of the other elements within the WM interface. A deep, royal blue color with gradient is added to the top and bottom menu bars, and a new Start menu design is applied, which actually makes the options very readable.

I'm not too sure why you would choose to install the Jumping Fish Theme, but I get it's quite appealing if you like surrealism.

Whatever you might think about the performance of Windows Vista, it's difficult to knock the quality of its themes.

Vista Water Theme is a Today Screen customization inspired by the latest Microsoft OS. It features a tranquil background image of a rippling pond, which gives your PDA a soothing quality.

Unfortunately the calmness of the image in the Vista Water Theme is spoiled somewhat by the sickly color scheme adopted. I felt the greens used in the status bars and in the Start menu drop-down should've been much darker, because the ones the designer has chosen made me feel a little queasy.

That said, if you're a nature lover with a soft spot for Windows then you'll probably quite like the Vista Water Theme.

The title of this program might be a bit misleading - Vista for PDA doesn't actually replace the Windows Mobile operating system with Vista, it merely makes it look a bit like it.

Vista for PDA adds a new background wallpaper to your Pocket PC featuring those famous swirly blue and green lines in front of a black backdrop. The text on the Today screen is changed to a gray color, which is perfectly readable.

Thankfully, Vista for PDA uses a background color on the Start menu, rather than a transparent box, making the icons and text easily visible. The theme also alters the colors of the top and bottom status bars in Windows Mobile, adding a rich royal blue/purple hue.

Although Vista for PDA won't add any Vista-style functionality to your device, it does make for a striking theme for fans of the Windows OS.

I've always been fascinated by hot air balloons after one landed in our school playground when I was eight. Hence, I was pretty excited to install the Beautifull Ballons theme on my Pocket PC.

The captivating main image in Beautifull Ballons depicts a series of glowing balloons at nighttime. The reflection of each balloon appears in the water underneath, making for quite a spectacle.

Besides adding this background image, the Beautifull Ballons theme also makes a few other changes to your system appearance. For instance, the top and bottom menu bars are transformed to a wonderful royal blue color, and a revamped Start menu is included. Unfortunately, the designer of the theme has chosen to use a transparency and this means that some of the icons on the menu aren't particularly visible against the background image.

Aside from this though, Beautifull Ballons makes for a great theme for hot air balloon fans (no pun intended).
