Arma II is an enormous and serious war simulation. From infantry to helicopters, you are thrown into realistic conflicts in an imaginary former Soviet state.

This massive demo lets you go through the extensive training, and two missions. Skipping the training is not recommended because Arma II is not Call of Duty, and simply running around shooting will result is quick death! You're taken through all the controls, vehicles, parachuting and more. It's not easy, and there are lots and lots of controls.

Once you've had the training it's on to the three missions. There is a transport mission, where you have to fly with a group of marines into combat, and there's an infantry mission where an enemy stronghold is being stormed. It's not Hollywood war, and this is very much a game for people interested in simulation. Standing up carelessly will result in bullets hitting you apparently from nowhere. You have to learn to work with your team and be patient!

The graphics are detailed, and with lots going on, so you'll need a powerful machine for Arma II to run smoothly, even with the graphics on the low setting. The sound is pretty good, although the speech animation is quite poor. The focus is so much on realism, that this isn't much of a game. It's complicated, confusing and hard! If that's what you're looking for, Arma II will suit you perfectly.

This is a hard game, and not one for the casual player. Despite the parachuting being pretty bad, most of the play modes are well done, and simulation fans will find much to enjoy here

Similar to the Age of Empires and Civilization game series, it's your job in Stronghold Crusader to ensure the safety of your armies in the Middle East during the First, Second and Third Crusades. This means holding off Muslim armies, as well as resolving conflicts between your own men within individual crusader states.

You accomplish these feats in Stronghold Crusader by purchasing supplies and building strongholds in the towns under your control. In addition, you go on campaigns to places like Nicea, Jerusalem and Antioch, and there is even a game feature called the Crusader Trail, which consists of a series of 50 missions that are all connected and pit you against a variety of different opponents.

Stronghold Crusader is interesting for its variety of characters, from historical figures like Richard the Lionheart to fictional creations like The Rat, a boy who is raised poor but later inherits land and money. These characters all have their own back story in Stronghold Crusader, which serves to make the game a bit more interesting.

Unfortunately, Stronghold Crusader's graphics are poor in comparison to other PC games currently on the market. The gameplay can also get repetitive if played for any length of time.

If you're looking for some old school medieval strategy game fun, Stronghold might be right up your alley. It offers lots of challenges, as well as the exciting battles you expect in a game of its calibre.

The purpose behind Stronghold is twofold - build up your lands and defend them in battles. You gain lands through a mixture of smart in-game economics and by winning battles with other neighboring kingdoms. The spoils you get from winning wars can help you purchase supplies to expand your own castle and kingdom.

Other lords might want your land in Stronghold too though, so expect to have to defend your acquisitions in battle as well. Who among your people you choose to have fight, as well as what strategies you employ during the war, will determine the outcome of the battle.

Stronghold is fun to play if you have the patience for this type of game. Unfortunately, the game is a little buggy and freezes up sometimes. The graphics are also quite outdated compared to other available games.
