There's a plethora of sudoku games out there for Mac, most of them more or less the same. zonSudoku makes no exception.

The game will offer you the expected 4x4, 9x9 and 16x16 grids, all three of varying difficulty obviously. You can also set the difficulty via the slider, which does feel a little imprecise yet clearly offers a difference in difficulty, based on where you set it.

For those of you that aren't so much experienced sudoku players, zonSudoku can display hints and show your errors, so you learn as you play. We recommend using these at the beginning, however the game will be much funner once you can solve sudokus on your own.

zonSudoku takes up very little place and you can leave it open anytime without worrying about it slowing down your Mac. It can be good to have on your computer if you're looking for a simple timewaster for taking a break every now and then.

Nothing too surprising in zonSudoku. Sudoku still remains an enjoyable logic game, especially for those of you that are good with numbers.

SudokuAdept will please Sudoku fans, but is probably most suited to beginners. The game lets you set different levels of difficulty, and you adjust settings like showing bad squares, accept only correct numbers, or have a possibilities compact layout. If you're worried that you might get stuck on one Sudoku, you can always enable automatica puzzle solving to give you a hand.

Experienced Sudoku players probably will not find Sudoku Adept challenging enough, as it does not provide that many difficulty levels to play with. Yet for anybody new to the logic game, SudokuAdept really provides a great way to get started and learn all the tricks.

Thanks to lots of help and varying difficulty levels, SudokuAdept is ideal for people looking to learn all about the logic game. Color Sudoku is a variation of the popular timewaster except that this time you'll have to fill the grids with colors instead of numbers. As any other Bakno games, Color Sudoku provides clear instructions and enough settings to tweak your playing board. You can customize colors and choose between four different tops. Color Sudoku also gives you a choice of 4*4 or 9*9 grids, the latter being much harder.

We like the little palette of colors that appears when you click on an empty space. You can add color annotations by CTRL clicking. The timer at the bottom adds a bit of pressure to the game and lets you aim on improving your speed and logic.

As any Sudoku game, Color Sudoku quickly gets addictive. Although the difficulty bar is fairly imprecise (you drag it from easy to hard), this game is ideal any time you have five minutes to waste.

Download Color Sudoku 8.5 in Softonic

It has two modes to choose from: Classic or Latin Squares. The classic one offers the bigger 9X9 board while Latin Squares is a variation where you not only have to enter all numbers in rows but also in the colored section. Classic mode will give beginners a better grasp of how to play Sudoku, yet Latin Squares is easy to get accustomed to.

The game provides clear tutorials and hints which you can switch off any time. You can also add in notes and use right click to jot down possible solutions in the boxes. Because of the many difficulty levels, Sudoku - Latin Squares is enjoyable for anyone, whether beginner or more advanced users. Starting off with a 9X9 grid in Classic mode might be too challenging for new users though.

The game offers nice graphics and good, yet slightly exotic music, to make the game a little more exciting. You might prefer switching it off to focus more on your grid though.

Sudoku - Latin Squares offers two different versions of Sudoku and provides a lot of help for new users.

Download Sudoku - Latin Squares in Softonic

Best Kakuro is a challenging logics game similar to Sudoku.

In Kakuro, also known as Cross Sums, you need to solve crossword style grids. You can only enter numbers one through nine, using hints from the results shown over and under the diagonal lines. Kakuro takes some time and mostly logical thinking.

In this version of the game, you can choose from two different grids, 8*8 and 14*18. The game also provides five different difficulty levels, which ensure that the game stays challenging for a while. Better players will also like the using the timer mode to set themselves limits. You can either use your keyboard or mouse to play it, however if you use the latter you'll be able to reveal possible combinations with mouse clicks.

Just like for Sudoku, one of the charms of Kakuro is playing it with a pen and paper. It seems Best Kakuro has taken this into account as it allows you to create and save your own puzzles and print them out.

The only drawback we'd have with Best Kakuro. Since it's a Leopard only game, we would have expected a smoother looking interface.

Despite the poor interface Best Kakuro is a fun game of Cross Sums. You can also create and print your own puzzles out.

Download Best Kakuro 3.0 in Softonic

Sudoku Susser 2.5.7

The Sudoku Susser makes it easy to make your selections as you solve the puzzle; just click on one of them and select the new number from the popup menu that appears, or mouse over it and press the number on the keyboard. But it does far more than that! If you make a mistake and enter an invalid move, the Susser will hilight the invalid squares in red. If you'd like some extra help keeping track of what's what, checking Show Hints will display all the remaining possibilities in the empty squares.

If you want help with a puzzle, the Deduce! button will apply a list of increasingly sophisticated techniques in order to progress. Sudoku Susser can solve all know sudokus by logic, using only techniques that human players would reasonably be able to execute (though a couple are ones that only a Sudoku maniac would try to use). Each step in the solving process is explained in detail. You can single-step, and you can brute-force recurse to get the solution. You can also ask the Susser to give you a hint about what method needs to be used next, and where you need to use it. With the addition of the “Trebor's Tables” deduction algorithm, the Susser can now logically deduce the solution to the most difficult known Sudoku puzzles.

Other features:

You can drag Sudoku graphics from just about any webpage and they'll be scanned and loaded into the application

Instant download of new puzzles from the Menneske.no Sudoku archive

Extensive help, hint and hilighting features show you the logical structures in the puzzles

You can manage, rename, reorder, and print out your Sudokus

You can drag them out of the app as graphics or in a variety of text formats

Undo and redo are fully supported

Many sample puzzles to get you started

Comprehensive manual gives detailed explanations of all the advanced solving methods the program can use

If you follow the story mode you find yourself guiding your character, RPG style, on an island. You can interact with other characters and discover objects. By solving puzzles and games you come across you'll be able to advance through the game.

In Escape From Paradise you also need to manage your character well and make sure he's never too hungry or tired or that he is sociable enough. You can also have him specialize in a craft like carpenter or provider. Even though you can choose between a male or female character and more or less change their appearance, we found character customisation slightly limited.

One of the good points of Escape From Paradise is that you don't need to follow the story mode. The game also lets you play the mini games, which as you'll see are variations of popular timewasters like sudoku, checkers or jumble.

Even though Escape From Paradise lags every now and then, it's offers a nice bundle of mini games and the story mode proves pretty exciting.

Download Escape From Paradise 1.0 in Softonic
