Everything is explained and taken step by step until your gallery is online with no further effort required on your part. To get going, first of all you're asked which image files you want to upload. Secondly, you're asked what title you want to give the album and the layout parameters - how big, what style etc. Then, you simply click "Build" and the software whizzes into action building a perfect HTML gallery, complete with thumbnails, for publishing on the net.

Once ready, you are given detailed control over exactly how you want the gallery to look such as by changing the thumbnails to full image size, the titles, layout gallery style, border colors etc. If you see another gallery online that you like developed using Gallery Designer, you can even borrow that template or alternatively, design your own.

With support for for a wide range of video and photo formats and even support for text files, Gallery Designer takes the pain out of coding your own online gallery.

Download Gallery Designer 1.0.9 in Softonic

This software works similarly to any basic HTML editor but spices things up with its own set of features. SEEdit Maxi sports a simple interface which gives easy access to all the options you need. The editor toolbox handles all major classes, and lets you pick and choose elements. Quick Insert CSS, just as its name says, is a fast way to create cascading style sheets. It covers all the necessary details of CSS, from background to text or print. Similarly, we appreciate the CSS and XHTMl snippets options to insert already existing snippets of your own, and with an auto-complete function, you won’t waste time editing. As a lightweight and practical HTML editor, we recommend SEEdit Maxi to users seeking a solid and straightforward way to build their web page.

Download SEEdit Maxi 2008 R8 in Softonic

HoudahSpot 2.2.2

HoudahSpot is a file search tool based on Apple's Spotlight technology. It enables users to quickly create and store powerful search queries. HoudahSpot has been designed from the ground up with ease of use and convenience in mind. You will feel right at home. We feel it is not the user who needs to be educated, but the software that should be made to the user's need.

With HoudahSpot you may search by name, contents, date, type or any other file attribute. It all starts with a basic query form. Take it from there to pinpoint the files you are looking for. Create complex queries by combining criteria using boolean operators.

HoudahSpot leverages Apple's powerful and fast Spotlight engine. It does not waste this engine's horsepower to run searches before you are done entering criteria. The search starts only at your command.

Search results remain up-to-date as long as they are on screen. Create a new file and it instantly shows up in the searches that match it. The top half of the query window allows you to express search criteria. The bottom half defines the search scope. The top half of the results window lists the file matching your query. This list may be sorted at wish. The action menu enables you to open files, reveal them in the Finder, move them or trash them.

In the bottom half you will find a column based file browser. The left-most column shows the siblings of the currently selected search result. To the far right is a larger view of the currently selected file.

HoudahSpot may be configured to start up as soon as you log in to your Mac. It is then ready to jump to your service at the press of a simple key stroke. You may save your queries for later reference. A query set up with a few basic criteria and a search scope might serve as a starting point for future searches.

Saved searches are much like smart folders. When saving a search its run state and result sort order are saved along with the query. A search saved while running jumps back to life as soon as it is opened. HoudahSpot comes with 2 such predefined searches: 'Applications' and 'Recent Documents'.

Queries saved to the template directory always are readily accessible from the 'Template' menu. You may assign keyboard shortcuts to up to ten templates. Templates may be used as stationeries or as smart folders.

Download HoudahSpot 2.2.2 in Softonic

Discus allows you to create and print CD and DVD labels, CD case covers and inserts, DVD box covers and inserts, and more. Discus supports all direct printing onto discs via printer but this depends on whether your own printer supports this option. The great thing though is that Discus allows you to import your own photos and artwork or use one of the many predefined templates provided with the program.

The key thing you'll notice with Discus is the speed at which it does everything. It loads instantly and requires no installation - Discus can be run directly from the EXE file. As regards design and control, there's not a great deal of creativity that it allows itself. It's better to create something in Photoshop and then import it into the program. However, you can perform special text features such as curved and angled text to fit the contours of the disc.

As with any other Adobe tool, Illustrator feels really complex for first-time users: lots of windows and palettes, toolbars full of unknown icons, many new functions and features to learn… Luckily the program includes a bunch of templates to get you started, as well as a thorough help section where you'll find the answer to all your doubts and problems.

Once you get the knack of it, you'll start realizing just how powerful and versatile Adobe Illustrator can be. Your creativity will be boosted with Illustrator's impressive set of drawing tools, brushes, color processing tools and gradient effects, not to mention the wide array of filters and special effects with which you can add the final touch to your drawing.

Adobe Illustrator is seamlessly integrated with other Adobe tools (like Adobe Bridge), something that makes your work more comfortable and easier if you're already used to working with Adobe apps.

Adobe Dreamweaver CS3

With Adobe Dreamweaver you get an intuitive yet powerful tool to design and put up your own websites. Dreamweaver is tailored both for beginners and more advanced users as it includes many tutorials and help and a solid collection of advanced features that designers will enjoy working with.

Organized in the classic Adobe style that you immediately recognize in any of the developer's programs, Dreamweaver gives you easy access to all your editing and designing tools. You can work with a full code or full design view, however most people will prefer to choose the split view, which is much more flexible to edit with.

You'll find Dreamweaver makes it easy to insert any sort of element, whether an image, a Flash file or a piece of audio. Elements can be moved around an adjusted until you are happy with the layout of your pages.

This latest version has improved the CSS capabilities in Dreamweaver with more templates, and a tool to manage your styles and move them to your own style sheets. The CSS code also comes with comments that explain how it works and how to use it, something that beginners and experienced users alike should appreciate.

I was a little disappointed that the interface only underwent slight cosmetic changes, but the biggest drawback of all to Dreamweaver in my opinion is still the price. Even though it's a powerful application, not everybody will be ready to pay $399 for it. You'll also have to make for sufficient disk space to accomodate the 1GB installer package.

Adobe Dreamweaver is a reference in terms of web designing, editing and creating and offers alot of help and guidance.

Download Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 in Softonic

Typinator is one among many such applications but stands out thanks to its ease of use and functionalities.

Typinator is easily accessible from your menu bar. Once you open up the program window you'll see you can create your own set of abbreviations. Just type in the corresponding text in the box at the bottom of the window and enter the abbreviation. You can save all these in different sets, which are ordered at the top of the interface.

Although the program is limited to English, French and German it features really thorough correction sets for the three languages, which should ensure you don't make any typos.

Typinator integrates perfectly in any word processing program and will read imported snippet files from similar applications like Textexpander or TypeIt4Me.

Simple to use and great to store all sorts of abbreviations, Typinator will save you loads of time when typing up documents.

Download Typinator 3.1 in Softonic

DiscLabel takes you through it in an intuitive interface and offers loads of templates to work with. The program can import images and track lists from pretty much any source, like iTunes, iPhoto or Toast, giving you complete freedom as to the content you use to assemble your labels.

With the release of the latest version, DiscLabel has made more 1,300 clip art items available via download, which can be browsed by tag and keyword. However users will also find a huge range of different templates in the program itself. DiscLabel makes a few editing tools available at the bottom. Users can add text, draw lines and shapes and add a few effects. These felt a little bit limited compared to all the templates and clip art items made avalaible.

After you've created your label you generally want to print it out. DiscLabel makes this easy to do on any sort of paper or paper type and you can even print directly on a CD. For those of you that don't want to bother with creating labels, the program even offers access to its own DiscLabel store, where you'll be able to purchase labels, cases and blank media.

DVDpedia 4.3.0

To save you time and effort, DVDpedia retrieves all DVD information from the Internet and lets you arrange your DVDs in any which way you like. Using DVDpedia comes naturally because of its familiar iTunes style interface.

DVDpedia lets you retrieve information about your movies (both VHS and DVD) from various sites on the Internet. The main info generally comes from the Amazon sites (US, UK, Germany, Canada, France, Japan) but DVDpedia also gives you access to the Internet Movie Data Base (IMDB) as well as an additional Spanish, French, Italian, Australian and German movie site.

You can search using pretty much any keyword - from a director to the movie title or an actor's name. Or use a combination of them all. If you have a scanner, you can find your movies even faster. Just open a search window and scan the UPC of the movie. DVDpedia does the rest for you. Cuecats, modified or not, are supported too. (At the moment, scanning works best with the Amazon US site.)

Once you have gathered all the info for your DVDs, organize them any which way you want. Set up collections; for example, one for your favorite director, one for comedies and one just for Cameron Diaz. Once you've created a collection, you can simply drag and drop to add DVDs. Or create smart collections that update themselves automatically everytime you add a DVD. Just set the criteria for the smart collection and DVDpedia will organize itself. You can also make a wish list for DVDs you don’t own yet and a borrowed list to remember who borrowed what movie at what date and when it is due back.

You can export your library, or just a collection, using the HTML templates that come with the program. Or, if those are not enough, you can write your own templates. Check out the Help file on how to. Of course, there are also other export formats available, like tab delimited, comma delimited and .dvdpedia, a unique format which works very well if you want to make a backup of your library or send a collection to friends.

Download DVDpedia 4.3.0 in Softonic

Bookpedia 4.3.0

Bookpedia is an excellent application to keep track of the books you have at home. Thanks to a clear interface, you can view all album covers and book information in one go. Using your Apple iSight camera you can scan the bar codes of your books to register them into Bookpedia. And if for some reason you don't have the bar code, Bookpedia will let you look at ten different international search sites and z39.50 library servers. We were also impressed by the Spotlight integration, which makes any piece of information quickly within reach.

The full screen mode, which shows all the album covers, is a nice way of browsing through your titles. Bookpedia also streamlines the way you can create smart collections to keep all your different books organized. We also quite liked being able to create a book wishlist or at least seeing the one you have on Amazon. Bookpedia also lets you keep a note of who has borrowed which book and can generate all sorts of statistics on your collections.

While scanning book bar codes with your iSight camera worked most of the time, it can fail every once a while. Always make sure there's sufficient light and that the bar code is clean. One other little drawback we could also point out is that Bookpedia doesn't let you sort by author last name.

Apart from that, Bookpedia is a top notch application to keep your book collection organized.

Download Bookpedia 4.3.0 in Softonic

NeoOffice 2.2.4

NeoOffice is a welcome open source alternative to the pricier Microsoft Office and iWork'08 office suites. The application carries with it all the applications that you'd expect: word processing, spreadsheet, presentations, database and drawing.

You'll find the interface of NeoOffice and the range of tools in the office suite very similar to what you'd find in Microsoft Office. However, NeoOffice does load up much faster when opening up any document. Most tools open up in a new window so make sure you don't have too many open, otherwise the interface will look really cluttered.

All the different applications in the NeoOffice suite work well and are more than worthy replacements to the options available in Microsoft Office and iWork'08. The presentation tool is the only one I was disappointed with, as it doesn't offer as many templates or tools as I expected to create a shiny, professional presentation.

You'll find very thorough help docs and excellent wizards to master all elements of NeoOffice.

Although the presentation tool is a little weak, the rest of the applications in NeoOffice make for a very good free office suite.

Download NeoOffice 2.2.4 in Softonic

Gluestick 1.0.3

Do you hate having to open up Photoshop just to design an icon? Gluestick is a small graphics editor that web designers will find extremely useful to prepare interface and icon designs.

The application lets you add two types of layers, text and image, and features a complete template set of Apple icons to work with ranging from accounts to alerts or folders. Open up the inspector window to set options like position, size, color, shadow and zoom. Your layers can be resized and Gluestick lets you really zoom in onto your picture so you can edit the details.

Although Gluestick offers many editing tools, I wouldn't consider it a proper graphics editor like Pixelmator though. The inclusion of icon templates and the fact that images are handled via layers makes it really ideal for designing interfaces and icons for Mac. The fact that it renders in CoreAnimation also ensure that your images look even crisper on a Mac desktop.

Gluestick will come in handy when creating icons and interfaces for Mac.

Download Gluestick 1.0.3 in Softonic

If you're a writer, you'll know it's not always easy to keep track of all your characters, plot, settings and events in your story.

Storyist lets you manage all the pieces of your story, includes a text editor, which lets you format both manuscript and screenplays and a storyboard to get a different perspective on your story. You can highlight sections and add notes and organize every element in many different ways. I quite liked the use of index cards to jot down ideas and tie them together.

You can link in between sections to keep your plot well tied up and add specific elements easily.

I did find that Storyist lacked story templates, as it only actually comes with four very similar ones to start with.

Storyist should give you a complete overview of your story and make sure every element ties up well together.

Download Storyist 1.3.8 in Softonic

Looking to succeed in Hollywood? Montage is a screenwriting application to put your movie ideas down and organize all aspects of your story.

My first impression of Montage is that it's easy enough for almost anyone to use. The different elements, like script, scenes, characters or research are on listed on the left. You can easily add or remove new ones, enter keywords for better identification and format your entries. Montage comes with a selection of nice script templates to start out from, among which some from the BBC. Importing are exporting is also extremely easy.

Serious film directors might feel a little disappointed with Montage as it lacks some essential features. For one, you can not track changes made to your script. Montage also lacks a proper timeline view. You can set it to split scene or full screen, but only if you are looking at your script or specific scenes.

Thanks to an attractive interface, Montage is probably a good choice for aspiring movie directors. However more seasoned writers will lament the display limitations and lack of change tracking.

Download Montage 1.5 in Softonic

Opacity 1.1

I've always wondered how Mac developers manage to make such nice looking interfaces and icons for their programs. A tool like Opacity makes this accessible to literally anyone.

Opacity is some sort of niche graphics editor. Limited to three graphics areas (applications, icons and the web) it offers the traditional pens, colors and zoom tools. You can use some of the templates to get working right away or start from scratch by selecting one of the different shapes and create your own interfaces, buttons and more.

Apart from layers and filters we were surprised to see a few other tools a little bit out of the ordinary. Math Anywhere lets you enter a basic equation anywhere and Goodies lets you easily improve your graphics. Opacity also includes vectors, variables and frames to achieve just the results you want.

At times though, Opacity feels a little rudimentary, and more experienced users might simply prefer working with a more advanced solution with many more tools and effects.

Opacity is a good application to edit all your graphics in applications, web sites and icons.
