Your overall goal is to make money which you can invest in improving your farm. The improved graphics are still more functional than realistic - vehicles only leave a mark on the ground when you are ploughing etc. The farming equipment, from real manufacturers like Case IH, Deutz-Fahr, Lamborghini, Same, Horsch and Amazone, are as slow as you would expect, but don't feel realistic.

You can crash your tractor into a barn without damaging it either. The environment in general still feels stale. For a simulator about farming, a more dynamic environment would be much more suitable. As it stands, work in Farming Simulator 2013 is pretty dull. You'll never feel you are fighting against the elements, but rather just going through the motions.

Farming Simulator 2013 isn't a massive improvement for the series. The graphics still look out dated, and the overall experience is lacking character. If you enjoyed previous entries, you'll like this, but it doesn't offer much for anyone else.

Simutrans is a transport and economic simulation game. Simutrans has not yet reached production state, but it is quite possible to build big transport networks between the industries and cities.

The player can create bus and rail connections and transport passengers, mail and goods in and between cities and industries. Even passenger ferries and oil tankers are included in the game. Goods are produced by industries from raw materials, sometimes over many steps of intermediate products. i.e. coal and iron ore are needed to produce steel in a steel mill. Oil may be transformed to plastics in a refinery. Plastics and steel are used to build cars by the car industry. Finally the cars are sold in the cities which need gas to run, which will also be produced at the refinery.

All goods need to be transported which is the ultimate aim. Transport the goods and allow industry to thrive but be careful not to destroy the environment!

In Surgeon Simulator 2013 you play the part of a surgeon Nigel Burke. The twist is that Nigel has no medical qualifications - it's just you, some surgical tools and a body. Your goal is to complete various operations as quickly as possible with minimal blood loss starting with a heart transplant.

When you start the game, Surgeon Simulator 2013 opens with music from the British hospital drama "Casualty" set in Holby City hospital which continues throughout the game. You control the surgeon's hand with the mouse or keyboard but the first thing you'll notice Surgeon Simulator 2013 is extremely difficult to control. You control each finger separately which is tricky in itself but the hardest thing is actually picking-up tools and using them to heal and cut organs.

You will inevitably make a huge mess of your first few goes on Surgeon Simulator 2013 and hack your poor patient to pieces. I managed to send the spare heart flying across the room, before destroying the rib cage with a saw and then accidentally throwing both of the patient's lungs at his face - he had no chance after that.

At the end of the surgery, you will be given a verdict as to how the surgery went, a final blood remaining level, surgery time and rating. However, it's incredibly hard to know which tools you need and how to use them in Surgeon Simulator 2013. Some in-game prompts or instructions would have been better to prevent every operation turning into a blood bath.

There are some amusing sound effects to Surgeon Simulator 2013 - mostly Nigel Burke going "Oh No!" and "Oh Jesus!" in a cockney accent as things go wrong and your patient slips away. However, the Casualty theme soundtrack gets very repetitive and leaves you wishing the hospital TV drama had never been invented.

Surgeon Simulator 2013 is still a fun simulator which illustrates the complexity of major heart surgery whilst also being quite educational about the human body too.

In Virtual City 2, you can construct houses, industrial parks, make goods, deliver them to shopping malls, and even setup a mass transit system to transport people to your parks, movie theaters and stadiums. You can add pretty much anything a modern city needs including a recycling center, hospitals, fire stations and even the finder details such as trees and plants.

In Virtual City 2, you must be keep your citizens happy such as through the hosting of town events, trading with neighboring cities and building a marina and a train depot. Finally, you must deal with economic downturns, population crises and the consequences of natural disasters. You can get really creative in Virtual City 2 although there's no avoiding that it's a rather pale imitation of Sim City.

Virtual City 2 is still a decent Sim City style game that will unleash your creative juices in trying to build the perfect city.

From the ground up

The basics of SimCity have remained the same since the first game back in 1988. You build your city from scratch, choosing a location, then planning the different areas while making sure there are enough utilities and amenities to keep the population happy and healthy.

Single or multiplayer?

When you start a game, you can join a populated region, which will have other online players, or to start a fresh region yourself. Cities are limited in size, and SimCity works best when you have multiple cities that cooperate and specialize.

Whether you prefer to play alone or with others, it's enjoyable, but it's clearly designed more with multiplayer in mind. You cannot play without being connected to EA's servers, and while we expect early reliability problems to be resolved, never being able to play offline is a shame.

Playing the game

SimCity's interface is excellent. A beautifully designed thing that lets you do everything, while allowing you to enjoy the impressive views of your creation. The amount of information and detail available is incredible, and really gives your city the feeling of being alive.

You can learn about every individual resident's wishes and concerns, and pull up statistics on pretty much anything about the development of your city. You can also check out neighbors to see how they might complement you or offer you services.

Graphics and sound

The graphics cannot be faulted. SimCity just looks great, and the filters you can add mean you can make the game look the way you want. When you're zoomed in, the detail and animation is great, and even each resident seems to have somewhat of a personality. Everything is accompanied by pleasant background music and ambient effects.

Conclusion

SimCity is an excellent and very impressive game. But it's not quite the same as it used to be. This SimCity thrives in multiplayer games, and whether you enjoy that will dictate to an extent how much you like the game.

The teething problems with servers won't last, but even reliable servers won't allow you to play the game on your laptop away from an internet connection.

Freyfurt has 450 stops dotted around its streets, over six town areas, with tasks such as school runs to perform. You can create custom routes in an integrated editor.

Driving is what you'd expect. Buses are big and ungainly to drive, and keeping out of the way of other traffic is always a big concern. If you enjoy Bus driving, you'll enjoy European Bus Simulator 2012, but despite improved graphics, this is still a game that lacks character. There's no reason a simulator has to be this dry and humorless.

There's a lot of bus-detail in European Bus Simulator 2012, right down to adjusting air conditioning, so it's a treat if you're into that sort of thing. More casual bus fans may find Bus Simulator 2012 overwhelming, and lacking in fun.

In The Sims 3: Seasons, You can play as one Sim or a whole household and as the seasons change, your Sims will discover a host of all-new activities and ways to celebrate. For example, they can swim in the ocean in the summer, go apple picking in autumn or go snowboarding in winter. Each season also brings a new festival to town with new foods, activities and social interactions.

In addition, you'll also find a host of new content including seasonal weather effects, décor, outfits and specialty items like a floating pool chair. You can even celebrate different holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Each level of Freight Train Simulator gives you a stretch of track to cover, and a time limit in which to complete it. You have to accelerate and brake to get your Freight Train successfully along the track, and stop at the station at the end.

There are four keyboard controls: F and V for accelerate and decelerate, and G and B to increase or decrease the brake. You have to watch your speed round corners, so you don't derail, and make sure to stop in time at the end. There is nothing more to Freight Train Simulator. You can change your view with the mouse as your journey progresses.

The graphics in Freight Train Simulator are very basic. The environments are lifeless and uninspiring, while the trains are dull by modern standards. There is no detailed sim style interface, and you are offered only your speed. It is not a simulator visualization of a Freight Train's controls at all. If you derail, you will know you were going too fast, but you won't know how fast to go. Freight Train Simulator is a really basic game, and doesn't deserve to be called a simulator.

The only thing Freight Train Simulator has in common with a simulator is that it shares the boring presentation that feature in the worst simulators. Not recommended.

The graphics are generally excellent and enhanced by the fact that you can choose the game view which gives it a cinematic feel at times. In career mode, the goal of the game is always the same - to deliver passengers to their destination within a certain time but without breaking the speed limits. You can however simply drive for pleasure in Quick Drive mode. The best drivers can join the global leader board in Career mode however so there's an extra incentive to make things a little more challenging.

One interesting feature is the ability to create and share routes with other players. This can lead to some fantastic and unusual train journeys across the planet. UK fans for example can choose from the London to Brighton route to the more scenic Northeast Corridor and Isle of Wight. Train Simulator 2013 offers both old and modern locomotives and the ability to customize them. Train enthusiasts will be pleased to hear you can drive anything ranging from an SW10 to an Electrostar train.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 offers manual passing, and manual shooting is introduced to the game for the first time, allowing you to modify the height and power of each. FullControl also improves dribbling, slowing down player speeds and allowing players to add various styles to their close control using the R2 button.

The manual control tweaks delivered by the FullControl system in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 definitely makes for an improved gameplay experience, which will delight experienced PES fans. However, novices will still be able to pick up and play the game without a problem.

The tactics screen from the previous version hasn't been added too - and it still feels a little puny. Having said that, the in-game strategy changes have been made a lot cooler by the fact that the coach appears in a little box in the corner of the screen to shout instructions when you summon him.

There are still some plays in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 that make it very easy to score. For example, you can still get behind a defense effortlessly with a long through-ball/chip combo.

Quality

In terms of player likenesses, PES 2013 is the closest to reality we've seen from a soccer game - better even than FIFA 12. The graphics as a whole in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 are fantastic, from the slick team entrances to the detail of the kits and footwear.

Unfortunately, player animation in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 is patchy in places. The way players turn feels clunky and unrealistic and goalkeeper throw-outs are laughably exaggerated and jerky. In fact, the supposed improvements to the goalkeepers from the previous version seem to have not worked at all - actually goalies seem more calamitous than ever!

The Player Impact engine in Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 is quite impressive; you notice how players hang into each other and how that influences your (freedom of) movement. However, it still lags behind FIFA's engine in terms of the extent of the collision animations.

Conclusion

Pro Evolution Soccer 2013 is a good quality soccer sim which looks great and now gives you more control than ever over the gameplay.

First touch control

The new first touch control system will revolutionize the way you receive the ball. Control will become a matter of skill rather than something automatic. In FIFA 13, trapping and controlling the ball are influenced by variables such as positioning, responsiveness and the attributes of the player receiving the pass. Improper control of the ball could let your opponent in or cause the ball to run out of play.

This change is similar to when tactical defending was introduced into FIFA 12. Even experienced FIFA gamers were annoyed at first by the switch but mastering it felt oh-so satisfying. It’s likely to be the same with first touch control in FIFA 13, and hopefully, like tactical defending, there will be an option to turn it off, if you need time to get used to it.

Attacking AI

The lack of options and opportunities when attacking was one of my main problems with FIFA 12. The AI (artificial intelligence) of the attackers has been improved in FIFA 13, and players will now move around intelligently depending on their location, what’s happening in the build-up and where the spaces are.

In addition, some attackers will be better than others at avoiding being caught offside, while others can perform smart tactical movements to punch holes through for the wingers or fullbacks to run onto.

Impact engine

The impact engine is the technology that’s designed to make collisions between players more realistic. This engine has been enhanced in FIFA 13 to remove bugs. It includes a new series of animations to enhance the realism even further.

There will be better jostling between players, who can now use their shoulders and arms to help shield the ball or to tackle an opponent. Physical challenges affect speed too in FIFA 13, with attackers being slowed or thrown off balance slightly if they get knocked while in possession.

Dribbling

In FIFA 13, the ability to go past an opponent with a simple change of direction disappears. New moves and refined touches are introduced that allow you to select to use the inside or outside of the foot. This will be a real delight for technically-savvy FIFA players, and will bring more skill into beating your man.

Tactical free kicks

With free kicks in FIFA 13 you can have to three players around the ball. You can now create new patterns and unpredictable kicks, fake shots, and drag players out of the wall.

From a defensive perspective you can add players to the wall, or instruct one of them to come off to intercept a rebound. You can also sneakily move the wall forward a by a few inches. However, if the referee notices this, you risk getting a yellow card.

Graphics, career mode and multiplayer

FIFA 13 brings some tweaks to 3D modeling of players’ faces through the use of Dimensional Imaging. The resemblance to the computer characters’ real-life counterparts is therefore even more accurate than ever.

FIFA 13 boasts an extensive career mode, in which you assume the role of coach, player and manager of your team. In terms of online multiplayer, EA has promised – without yet revealing details – an important update to the Head to Head season.

Overall, FIFA 13 promises to be one of the most comprehensive, realistic soccer games we've seen.

There's a full range of vehicles too, from boats to planes, and pretty much everything in between. The island in Arma III is huge, and its mix of towns, villages and mountainous terrain make it an excellent playground for war-games.

Modding will also be supported, so players can again expect a really long lifespan for Arma III. With the recent success of Arma II mod DayZ, it's obvious that III will have scope for some impressive community projects.

If you love cars and racing games, you'll want to give Simraceway a try. It is a free to play game with a bunch of cars, tracks, and unlockables to keep you playing. Even though this game is free to play, it is feature-packed and will have you entertained for hours.

The main selling point of Simraceway is the fact that they have a huge online multiplayer racing community. You can watch live feeds of your friend's races and chat with other spectators. Overall, Simraceway is a fun racing sim with a huge online community. Game play is fun and there's no reason not to try it since it's free!
