Talking Tom Cat is a virtual feline who resides on your iPhone to provide you with some companionship while you're on the move.

There are a few fun things you can do with your furry friend, Talking Tom Cat. You can make him repeat what you say simply by talking at him. He'll cup his ear to the screen, then say back the same thing in his own funny voice.

You can also interact with Talking Tom Cat through the touchscreen. Pet him by stroking your finger gently over the screen. Hit the screen harder and you'll smack the poor thing, causing him to fall over if you do it often enough. There are buttons to make him do things such as drinking some milk or scratching the screen.

One neat thing about Talking Tom Cat is that it allows you to record up to 30 seconds of video footage of you messing around with the cat, which you can then upload directly to YouTube.

It doesn't have enough action to give it any real lasting appeal, but Talking Tom Cat will give you a good giggle for a while.

Download Talking Tom Cat 2.1 in Softonic

Atari's Greatest Hits 1.7.2

Atari's Greatest Hits is a free app that allows you to buy a great many of their classic arcade and console titles from Pong and beyond.

Pong is the only title included when you install Atari's Greatest Hits. This most basic of games includes one and two player modes - you can play via Bluetooth with two devices, or on the same screen. Apart from nostalgia, there's really not much attraction to Pong today!

The range of games available is impressive, but it's hard to recommend most them to anyone who didn't play them the first time round! If you do miss those early days of gaming, or the Atari 2600, there will be much to love here, although touchscreen controls aren't always ideal.

Atari's Greatest Hits is basically a free shell for premium content. As a portal for games, the interface isn't incredible. It has a classic arcade look, but isn't very intuitive, and some of the buttons a small for the iPhone's screen.

For fans of retro arcading who would like to take Asteroids or Battlezone on the move, Atari's Greatest Hits is great news. However, younger gamers might find these relics are best left in the past.

Download Atari's Greatest Hits 1.7.2 in Softonic

Grabbity 1.1.3

Grabbity is a puzzle game where you use the accelerometer to rotate the world to collect coins and reach the exit as quickly as possible.

Gameplay in Grabbity uses the accelerometer in each level to spin the orientation of where Grabbity stands. Multiple environmental hazards block your way and you have to jump, grab, and slide through each level, being careful not to fall from great heights or suffer an explosive death.

The game also uses the touchscreen to jump and grab the location you are standing while you rotate the world. This allows you to line up carefully the direction you may fall or shorten the distance between platforms. You cannot think linearly with Grabbity because the world is always moving.

Grabbity features 20 free levels with in-app purchase for extra levels to continue the story of the game. These first levels preview the basic controls and later levels show the implementation of new hazards and puzzle elements those later levels will feature.

It takes a few levels, but Grabbity starts to shine with the different mechanics. It can get frustrating in some levels because of how precise the placement of Grabbity has to be or it leads to death. The first set of levels is enjoyable, but there is a lack of variety until the last few levels.

Grabbity is an excellent game with new gameplay mechanics, but needs more variety in the levels.

Download Grabbity 1.1.3 in Softonic

The Beach Boss is an arcade game where you collect items and sell donuts on the beach.

Along the way, you have to avoid different hazards like lifeguards, dogs, and crazy beachgoers. It is a simple game to start playing and provides a decent amount of fun. The Beach Boss can be controlled with the screen or the accelerometer.

If you use touchscreen controls, you move left and right to direct The Beach Boss around the beach, avoiding environment hazards that slow you down, like towels and dog poop, which causes customers to avoid you.

Graphics in The Beach Boss are stylized, but simplistic. It presents the idea of a beach very well with the top-down perspective, showing a good amount of the beach and the ocean. There are a lot of little details that remind you of the beach. The Beach Boss also keeps track of how far you were able to run during each game, which adds a distance-achievement mechanic.

The Beach Boss includes an in-game store where you can purchase items and accessories that can help you during the game. Items are a little overpriced and require multiple runs to gain even the cheapest among them though.

The Beach Boss is a fun game, but needs something extra to make it fun to replay.

Download The Beach Boss 1.0 in Softonic

Modern Combat 3 : Fallen Nation 1.3.0

Modern Combat 3 is the latest first-person shooter from Gameloft, offering you Call of Duty-style action on the go. The USA is under attack, so like a number of recent shooters, the action will take place on home soil.

Graphics

It's fair to say that for what the series lacks in originality, Modern Combat 3 makes up for in polish. The game looks great on the iPhone, moving well, with smoothly integrated cut scenes and quick time events. The campaign story missions mix up the FPS action nicely, although much like its console big brothers, Modern Combat 3 sometimes feels as if your teamates could survive just fine without you!

Gameplay

Gameloft has done a great job with the touchscreen controls. Although it's simply not an ideal interface, you'll soon get used to the controls which are really well optimized. There are three difficulty levels, and an extra 'Extreme' setting that unlocks when you beat the game. Like its predecessor there is a multi-player element too, which gives you much more freedom and a more competitive feel.

Modern Combat 3 is another well made FPS from Gameloft, improving on it predecessor, with plenty of content between the campaign and multi-player modes.

Download Modern Combat 3 : Fallen Nation 1.3.0 in Softonic

Talking Teddy Bear is a virtual stuffed bear app for your iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

Similar to other talking animal apps like Talking Tom Cat, there are a lot of fun things you can do with your virtual teddy bear. Make him repeat what you say by talking to him. The bear will respond back in his own voice. You can also record what Talking Teddy Bear is saying and doing and upload the video to YouTube or share with friends. Just record a message to a relative or a pal, and you're good to go.

Your iPhone's touchscreen also lets you interact with Playing Teddy Bear. If you touch his chair, he loses his balance. Rub his stomach and he giggles. Poke him in the eye and he'll start crying. In addition, there are buttons that will allow Talking Teddy Bear to pick up an instrument like the guitar or trumpet and a little keyboard at the bottom of your touchscreen for you to make him play specific chords or notes. Some of the instrument options are only available on the paid version of the Talking Teddy Bear app though.

The only issue with Talking Teddy Bear is that it quickly gets repetitive and potentially even annoying. That's true for any of these types of talking apps however.

While there's not enough action to keep you interested long-term, Talking Teddy Bear offers some short-term fun on your iPhone.

Download Talking Teddy Bear 1.2.2 in Softonic

Infinity Blade 1.4.1

Infinity Blade is a graphically-rich 3D fighting game for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Based on the Unreal game engine, it is one of the most impressive looking games to date on the iOS platform.

Your mission in Infinity Blade is to protect your bloodline from the tyranny of the God King, who has subjected your people in an endless legacy of darkness. To vanquish him you must journey to the Dark Citadel, fighting the God King's Titans, before eventually coming up against the man (or beast, rather) himself.

Fighting in Infinity Blade is much more intelligent than the hack-and-slash approach of other epic iOS games such as Assassin's Creed or Rage. Battles involve attacking, dodging, blocking, parrying and casting spells, all executed through well-implemented touchscreen gestures. A single fight in Infinity Blade can last a good few minutes, especially once you get up against the more beastly characters.

Infinity Blade offers an extreme adrenaline rush, and this is only heightened by its incredible cinematic presentation. The Unreal 3 engine used by the game delivers stunning environments, detailed characters, and slick animation. The booming soundtrack and speech is incredible too. In fact, you'll struggle to find a more polished looking game on the iPhone than Infinity Blade.

Although the fights are spectacular, some players may feel frustrated by the 'rail system' employed by Infinity Blade. All of the fights must take place in sequence, and there's no free roaming element to the levels, aside from picking up the odd potion or bag of money. This makes Infinity Blade a tad repetitive, but in our opinion because the fighting action is so captivating, this may not be a bad thing.

Infinity Blade is a breathtaking game, which is a must-have for serious adventure game fans.

Download Infinity Blade 1.4.1 in Softonic

Tetris for iPad is EA's official version of the brick-dropping puzzle game. It proves to be a far more elaborate and engaging experience than the iPhone version of Tetris.

The object of Tetris for iPad is, of course, to make horizontal lines from the falling shapes. The controls are entirely based around touchscreen gestures. You tap to the side of a falling block to rotate it one way or the other, click and drag a shape to place it, or tap the bottom of the screen to make it fall instantly. There is a d-pad mode in the game, if you're having trouble with the gesture-based controls.

There are two different game modes in Tetris for iPad. Marathon mode is like the traditional Tetris, where you just keep going, the levels raising and the bricks falling faster as you go. Like the iPhone version, Tetris for iPad also features the Magic mode. Here, you get to use cool power-ups to help you beat each level, such as exploding mines that destroy blocks; bubble wrap that lets you pop individual square; and a magic crayon that lets you draw any shaped brick you like.

Pristine presentation

The presentation of Tetris for iPad is the best of any mobile version of the game I've seen. The graphics are colorful and sparkly, and the sound and voice effects are crisp and full of impact. Unfortunately, the music in Tetris for iPad is almost unbearable. I would've preferred just the original Gameboy version of the soundtrack rather than the hideous remixes that appear in this one.

There are plenty of game options to tweak in Tetris for iPad and the game keeps a record of all your stats, so you can track your progress.

Tetris for iPad does justice to the original format of the game, and the introduction of the Magic mode means you'll get addicted to it more than ever.

Download Tetris for iPad 1.5.46 in Softonic

Alice: Madness Returns for iOS is an interactive storybook that explains the story between the video games American McGee’s Alice and Madness Returns.

In the first game, American McGee's Alice, we saw how a traumatized Alice lost touch with realty after the mysterious death of her family. Stuck in an asylum, she returns to Wonderland to find it terrifyingly twisted by her disturbed mind.

In this interactive novel that serves as a prequel to the PC and console title of the same name, American McGee’s Alice is a short but engaging introduction to this very dark re-imagining of Wonderland. Images and music accompany text in Alice: Madness Returns for iOS, which is uncovered as you manipulate each page of the storybook.

Objects you need to interact with flash occasionally, and while there are no direct instructions, you are unlikely to get stuck. The art style is great, and the sound adds lots of atmosphere. The touchscreen controls sometime feel a little unresponsive, but Alice: Madness Returns never makes you rush. It's nice to see such a carefully created companion piece for a game.

Chilling and dark, Alice: Madness Returns for iOS is a short but effective 'interactive storyboard', that's a great way to get in to the full console and PC game.

Download Alice: Madness Returns for iOS 1.0.00 in Softonic

Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror - Remastered is the second point and click in the classic series, now polished up for iOS devices.

Using the same excellent touchscreen controls as the first iOS game, Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror is really well adapted for both the smaller and iPad size screen. Again, the graphics have been polished up, with new animated sequences added to the action. The sound and graphics are wonderful, making it another extremely atmospheric and engrossing adventure.

This entry in the series sees George Stobbart back in Paris with Nico, and thrown into a Mayan-themed adventure. Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror is a bit more linear than the first game, but that actually makes the game less frustrating, as there are less ways to waste your time when you're stuck! The excellent hint system has been retained by developers Revolution, meaning help is always at hand if you really get lost.

The only criticisms of Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror are to do with the point and click genre overall. If you're not used to it, the game can feel slow compared to modern action adventures. However, like the original it serves as a great introduction to point and click adventures.

Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror is an atmospheric and challenging adventure that it beautifully optimized for iOS devices.

Download Broken Sword: The Smoking Mirror Remastered 1.2 in Softonic

Guitar Hero 1.4.0

Guitar Hero is an iPhone remake of the head-banging console classic. You can create a rock star in your image then attempt to play classic tunes on the guitar or bass.

Unlike the console Guitar Hero game, of course, this version doesn't include any instruments, and all the strumming, licking and sliding is done on the device itself using the touchscreen. Notes fall from the top of the screen and you need to tap them as they hit the bottom. In this sense, Guitar Hero plays exactly like Tap Tap Revenge and Rock Band for iPhone. There are a few nice little twists on this in that some chords require you to flick your finger sideways or quickly drag upwards to connect one note to another.

One of the things that sets Guitar Hero aside from its aforementioned iPhone rivals is its customization features. You can create your own guitar hero avatar, changing their clothes, hair, face, etc, and pick a guitar from the vast selection available. Through the course of the Guitar Hero game, you can unlock items and score points to earn new instruments.

Stingy song selection

There are only six songs included in Guitar Hero, although they are all rock classics. Tracks include Queen's We are the Champions, Rolling Stones' Paint it Black, and The White Stripes Seven Nation Army.

You'll quickly get bored of these, which is when it's time to head for the Store. Part of the reason Guitar Hero is so cheap initially is that Activision is banking on players to go to the store and download additional songs, which come in packs of three. There are a few to choose from in the store at the moment, but you can get Guitar Hero to scan your iPod library and let you know when one of your favorites becomes available to download and play in the game.

Guitar Hero boasts a strong community section, where you can lay down challenges on Facebook and see how you rank in the online leaderboards.

Guitar Hero is a polished iPhone game that's great fun to play. You'll quickly get bored of playing the small selection of songs in the game, though.

Download Guitar Hero 1.4.0 in Softonic

Pimple Popper Lite 1.26

Pimple Popper is a gross out game for iPhone where your objective is to squeeze as many spots as you can.

You're given a face full of whiteheads, blackheads and pimples and must pop them by pinching your fingers on the touchscreen. Each of the different types of blemishes in Pimple Popper must be manipulated in a different way. We won't go into the details, but needless to say none of them are pleasant!

The gross factor of Pimple Popper is heightened by the game's sound effects. The popping noises are vomit-inducing, and the squeals of agony from the 'victims' really set your teeth on edge.

Pimple Popper is fun to play for a couple of minutes, but you soon realize that there is no depth to the gameplay. Not only is it monotonous and pointless, but it also makes you feel very queasy.

Pimple Popper is a popular iPhone game, but it's one to be avoided if you're at all squeamish.

Download Pimple Popper Lite 1.26 in Softonic

Beneath a Steel Sky: Remastered 1.3

Beneath a Steel Sky is a classic 1994 point-and-click adventure, which Revolution games has brought back to life on the iPhone.

Artist Dave Gibbons (Watchmen) has added new animated cinematic intro, which really adds drama to the game's opening. The voices have been tuned, and despite its age, Beneath a Steel Sky looks and sounds good on the iPhone's screen.

Set in the distant future in a depressing world of steel towers, Beneath a Steel Sky: Remastered sees you (Robert Foster) on the run from government storm troopers, with a sardonic robot companion. Someone is out to get Robert, but he has no idea why, and no idea how to escape the city he's been brought to.

The gameplay is classic point-and-click puzzle solving - in every area you'll have to talk to everyone, pick up objects and use them intelligently to move on. There are plenty of opportunities to die, but you can always restart from where you left off. The touchscreen interface works really well, and is designed so that your finger never obscures what you're trying to do. The puzzles aren't too difficult, but if you get stuck there's a complete hint system to keep you moving.

Humorous and engaging, Beneath a Steel Sky: Remastered is a great adventure for the iPhone, and excellent value. The added cut scenes and hint system make a fantastic game even better

Download Beneath a Steel Sky: Remastered 1.3 in Softonic

Shrek Kart HD 1.0.0

Shrek Kart HD is a fun racing game in which you must negotiate courses at breakneck speed to defeat the other drivers.

It's easy to draw comparisons between Shrek Kart HD and Mario Kart. Just like the Nintendo classic, you can choose between single race, tournament and arena modes (this last one was called Battle mode in Mario Kart). There's also a Challenges mode in Shrek Kart HD, in which you have to complete missions involving collecting things, time trials, and the like. You can even play with your friends via Bluetooth or WiFi.

Gameplay is fun and there's plenty of variety in Shrek Kart HD to keep you amused for ages. There are lots of characters and tracks, some of which are only accessible once you've completed certain races or tournaments.

The controls in Shrek Kart HD are extremely straightforward. You can choose between tilt or touchscreen controls, and there's an option to adjust the sensitivity. On-screen buttons are used for firing weapons and accessing characters' special moves.

The colorful 3D graphics in Shrek HD look great on the big screen of the iPad. However, the animation can get a bit jerky at times, especially when cornering. It's not enough to significantly detract from the gameplay, however.

Overall, Shrek Kart HD is an extremely enjoyable karting game, which provides endless fun for all the family.

Download Shrek Kart HD 1.0.0 in Softonic

Fast & Furious The Game 0.5.1

Fast & Furious The Game is currently unavailable from the app store. However, the game of the latest version of the film, Fast Five the Movie: Official Game is now available.

Fast & Furious has become something of a classic among metalheads. If you're a fan of the movie, or just like driving very, very fast, then make sure you check out Fast & Furious The Game.

The game sees you take control of a charged-up supercar, going up against two other drivers in a road battle through picturesque countryside. In Fast & Furious The Game, the objective, as with the film, is to beat your opponent then cash in your 'pink slip' to take ownership of his car. This vehicle then gets added to your garage and you can use it in any race (until such time as someone wins it back off of you).

There are three game modes in Fast & Furious The Game. You can play a quick race against the computer, take on a friend over WiFi, or play the engrossing Story mode, in which you're set a number of missions involving racing or pursuing other vehicles.

Superb driving experience

The thing we like most about Fast & Furious The Game Test Drive is its control system, which makes intelligent use of the iPhone's hardware. Instead of having fiddly pedals on the touchscreen as most racing games do, Fast & Furious The Game uses auto-accelerate. If you want to slow down (or reverse) you just tap anywhere on the screen. Steering is done by tilting your device left and right. It makes for an incredible natural drive, and I can see this control system quickly becoming the norm with iPhone racers.

The graphics in Fast & Furious The Game are very good, though no spectacular. The animation gives you a real sense of speed on all of the three camera angles. Sound effects are realistic too, although there is no music in the game. That said, there is an option for listening to your iPod tunes as you drive.

If you want to try Fast & Furious The Game before buying it, then go check out Fast & Furious The Game Test Drive, which is free to play.

Overall, Fast & Furious The Game Test Drive is well worth taking for a spin, especially if you dig the movie.

Download Fast & Furious The Game 0.5.1 in Softonic

ESPGaluda II Lite 2.0.0

ESPGaluda II Lite is a free 2D shooter, that puts you in control of a girl with incredible ESP (Extra sensory perception) powers, against hordes of enemies. The gameplay is described as "bullet hell" because the screen gets filled with bullets that players have to find a path through to survive.

ESPGaluda II Lite is a bit unusual, as it's not set in Space, and you control a girl, not a spacecraft. Space Invaders may be turning in its grave, but this is an example of exactly how a shoot 'em up should be made for touchscreen devices like the iPhone.

While there's only one level in this version, ESPGaluda II Lite really shows off the iPhone's power with highly detailed graphics and a screen filled with action. No corners seem to have been cut here, it's a fully blown hardcore shooter that will satisfy fans.

The problem with ESPGaluda II Lite is mainly that as well as only having one level, you can only play in Novice mode, which is too easy. It looks great while you're playing it, but doesn't offer enough challenge.

ESPGaluda II Lite is a genuine hardcore shooter that will appeal to fans of the genre and has graphics that will impress everyone

Download ESPGaluda II Lite 2.0.0 in Softonic

Metal Gear Solid Touch Lite 1.0.0

Now you can take the role of Snake on your iPhone, in the shape of Metal Gear Solid Touch.

Porting a console blockbuster to a mobile device has always been a notoriously hit and miss - though mainly 'miss', it has to be said. So, I was unsure what to expect from Metal Gear Solid Touch, which brings one of the greatest first-person shooters of all time to the iPhone.

This special version of Metal Gear Solid 4 has been optimized for use on the touchscreen device. Konami has removed the ability to walk around in the game, and instead you play from a fixed position behind a barrier. Targets appear and you must bob up and down from your hiding place to shoot them and avoid getting hit yourself. In this sense, Metal Gear Solid Touch plays a lot more like Time Crisis than it does its console forefather.

Moving around

Though purists may scoff at Metal Gear Solid Touch's format, I thought it actually suits the iPhone very well. Pointing and shooting is pretty easy once you've got the hang of it. You move the target sight just by dragging your finger around anywhere on the iPhone's surface (so you don't have to obscure your view of the action) and shoot by tapping the screen. To reach the enemies that are a bit further away you simply pinch the screen to switch to sniper rifle mode and zoom in on them.

The graphics and sounds in Metal Gear Solid Touch are mightily impressive and at times it's almost as if you were sat playing your XBox. The cut scenes are very well drawn too.

This Lite version of Metal Gear Solid Touch only contains three levels and, in truth, it won't take you that long to finish them. But it does give you a good taster of the full game and demonstrates how a large and complex console game can be adapted to suit a touchscreen device.

Fans of the original may find the format of Metal Gear Solid Touch somewhat restrictive. Others will argue that this is a stylish reworking of an all-time classic.

Download Metal Gear Solid Touch Lite 1.0.0 in Softonic
