Sometimes I feel like I spend half of my life at Softonic taking screenshots, so I know what's important when it comes to screenshot programs. We use SnagIt in the office, but there are plenty of other options out there such as WinSnap.

This little program has a simple, uncluttered interface that is really very attractive. There is a large preview window where you can see the screenshot you have just taken, as well as viewing how it looks with some of WinSnap's effects added. The program has a full selection of hotkeys so that taking screenshots - of the desktop, windows, regions of the screen and more - can be done as quickly as possible.

WinSnap has plenty of configuration options: you can toggle whether or not to include the mouse, delay the shot (useful for when you want to capture open menus, etc.) and even fine-tune any of the WinSnap effects, contours, watermarks and shadow included. This version of the program is especially optimized for Windows Vista and 7, which means that it has no problem with rounded window edges or transparent borders.

WinSnap is a nice program that is attractive, simple and efficient. In fact, if I was new to screenshots and wanted a no-fuss program with almost no learning curve, it would be prefect. More experienced users, however, will miss the advanced configuration options available with other programs, and the huge watermark placed on all WinSnap images in the trial version is sure to be a problem for lots of users.

CA PC Tune-Up is no exception. The app has a nice interface and is very easy to use. The program scans 4 main areas - Speed, Stability, Security and Performance. It provides a brief description of its actions as it progresses, and ends by presenting you with a report on its findings. Unsurprisingly, in my experience, you'll have to upgrade to the full version of CA PC Tune-Up in order to actually repair any of the problems found.

So far, CA PC Tune-Up seems like many of its competitors, with a few negative differences. The program was slow and buggy, and has very few configuration options. Installation was slow and required an email address, and the last step of the scanning process - Report - will only let you proceed if you fill in a survey. Luckily for us, there are lots of PC tune-up programs out there, which means that there are plenty of ways to avoid the misfortune of having to use CA PC Tune-Up.

It's inevitable: after using your computer for a long period of time, it becomes slower and unresponsive, until it eventually freezes up.

All tools are pretty self-explanatory, but in case you're not sure about how to use any of them, you can access the program's detailed documentation.

On the downside, I was a bit disappointed when I realize you can't fix all of your Registry issues in the trial version, and also when I saw that most Windows tools in PC Tools Registry Mechanic were actually built-in system tools.

When your PC is running slowly, one way to speed things up is by cleaning up Windows registry.

PC Tune-Up is a slick looking application that takes you through a thorough registry clean up and defrag with minimal fuss. The interface is both attractive and intuitive, and designed for anyone to use.

The optimization process has four steps. First is a backup, in the unlikely event of any mistakes being made. After that, PC Tune-Up scans your registry files, fixes any problems (you can choose to exclude certain files if you wish), and then defragments the registry (organizing it more efficiently). It's extremely easy, and if you want even less input, click the "magic button", and the whole process will be done automatically.

PC Tune-Up also features some memory saving system tweaks that can contribute to speeding up windows in general. the trial version won't fix all of your registry problems, but it will complete the defrag process and activate the optimization tweaks.

PC Tune-Up is a user friendly and fast working registry cleaner, with no irritations at all.

Disk defragmentation is one of those boring yet necessary tasks you need to perform from time-to-time in order to keep system performance at its peak.

Hard Disk Tune-Up has been developed to make disk defragmentation as quick and effective as possible. The program features a nicely-designed interface that makes it easy to use. Before actually starting the defragmentation process, Hard Disk Tune-Up performs a full scan so you can get an idea of the status of your hard drive.

The complete scan process hardly takes a few minutes and displays a complete report once it's done. Unfortunately the demo version doesn't let you go beyond this point – that is, start the defragmentation itself – unless you upgrade to the full version, which makes the trial a bit disappointing.

Also, Hard Disk Tune-Up doesn't include any configuration settings and also allows you to defrag complete hard drives – and not individual folders or files, like we've seen in other similar apps.
