Rapid Typing Tutor 4.6.5

Rapid Typing Tutor is a typing program for Windows computers that helps you learn how to type, no matter what type of keyboard format you have.

Learning how to type can be a bit of an overwhelming experience for newcomers. Most keyboards aren't set up alphabetically, so its format may seem complicated for those unfamiliar with it. Rapid Typing Tutor is there to help though. Whether you have a regular QWERTY keyboard or something a little less traditional, Rapid Typing Tutor probably has your keyboard format saved and available to use for typing lessons. The lessons also come in a great variety of different languages besides English.

Once you've chosen your keyboard and language settings, it's time to choose the lesson most appropriate for your skill level. Rapid Typing Tutor has everything from the most basic lessons to more advanced ones. You can choose to take lessons that teach you where specific letters are or lessons that teach you how to type different word sets.

Rapid Typing Tutor's set-up is quite convenient, as it offers a virtual keyboard, complete with a pair of hands that show you the appropriate placement for your hands on your own keyboard. Then, just follow the on-screen instructions. Rapid Typing Tutor will make a noise if you hit an incorrect key. If this becomes distracting, there is an option to mute the program. If you'd like a more scenic screen while learning how to type, Rapid Typing Tutor also offers an animated screen that moves forward every time you click the correct letter.

The only real hang-up a user might have with Rapid Typing Tutor is that the program does take up quite a lot of space on your screen. It also sometimes freezes up for a moment or two between screens, particularly when you have several programs running at once.

If you want to learn how to type at a quicker speed, however, give Rapid Typing Tutor a try.

Download Rapid Typing Tutor 4.6.5 in Softonic

The SATmax metro app lets users prepare for the SAT on their PCs.

SATmax features a nicely uncluttered interface, perfect for the stressed out college hopeful, looking to brush up on subjects tested on the SAT.

Choose a specific SAT subject, and you'll be taken to sub-categories. Much like in-person prep courses, SATmax organizes lessons into by date and subject. There are video lessons, multiple choice question sets, and flashcard assignments to ensure you completely understand the lessons being taught.

After each question set, you can also review your answers in-depth with SATmax. This is essential, because you'll never learn from your mistakes unless an explanation is given in most instances. Once done with a complete set, you can also share your results with other friends using the program.

Although the app is pretty comprehensive, it probably isn't a complete substitute for in-person tutoring or another type of offline prep class. As a supplement though, SATmax really stands out.

SATmax is a great way to reinforce specific subject areas during your SAT prep.

Download SATmax Metro App in Softonic

Being fast and accurate at typing is becoming increasingly important in today's world of computers and devices. With RapidTyping Portable you can improve your typing easily.

RapidTyping Portable includes a series of simple exercises to get you started in the art of typing without having to be constantly looking at the keyboard. The program lets you train specific groups of letters that are located next to each other on the keyboard, and also shows you the right finger to use for each of them. At the end of the lesson you're presented with some colorful statistics that show information about your performance and improvement.

The interface in RapidTyping Portable is a bit weird, as it includes some background images and animations that can be quite distracting. Luckily you can disable both and use a plain, white background during your lessons.

Regarding lessons, the ones included in RapidTyping Portable are quite basic; they only cover groups of letters and don't include any real words or sentences. On the upside, you can easily create your own lessons, and put yourself to test with real custom texts. And of course, being a portable application, you can run RapidTyping Portable without leaving any trace on the computer – or even run it from a USB key.

With RapidTyping Portable you can easily improve your accuracy and speed at typing.

Download RapidTyping Portable 4.6 in Softonic

Any teacher or educator knows that the key to helping kids learn is to make it fun.

The same goes for typing, which is why Tux Typing has been designed to make typing as fun as possible for children. Tux Typing stars Tux who is actually the Linux penguin logo. Basically, words fall from the sky and you have to type them to make them disappear before they fall to the ground and end up in Tux's belly!

The main Tux Typing menu asks you to choose a level ranging from Space Cadet to Commander. Within these difficulty levels are different challenges from typing the Alphabet to whole words. Alternatively, you can just choose to practice typing and Tux Typing will give you a phrase and then indicate how you should type it using which fingers in order to become a touch typists.

Unfortunately, you can't edit Tux Typing's word lists yet but the developers promise it is coming soon. The range of languages supported by Tux Typing Tutor is outstanding. The full list of languages includes Armenian, Bokmal, Brazilian Portuguese, Catalan, Czech, Danish, German, Euskera, French, Spanish, Greek, Jamaican, Lithuanian, Nepalese, Russian, Swedish, Swahili and even a few more smaller languages you wouldn't expect to find in such a program.

What's great about Tux Typing is that every game is different with different backdrops, sounds and effects so it won't get boring quickly. However, it has to be said that the more difficult challenges and levels on Tux Typing would challenge even experienced touch typists, never mind children! Words fall at a very rapid rate on the hardest levels and even we had trouble keeping up.

Tux Typing is a delightful typing tutorial game for kids that will keep them coming back for more and rapidly improve their typing skills.

Download Tux Typing 1.8.1 in Softonic

If you're looking for a way to improve your typing skills that gives you detailed readouts and stats on how you're doing, then Master Key could be for you.

Master Key is a rather basic looking but very effective typing tutor which takes you through a huge series of drills in order to bring your typing speed up to scratch.
Master Key includes drills for U. S. , Dvorak, French, and German keyboard layouts and if the huge number of drills aren't enough for you, you can import your own text files, eBook pages and even create your own drills.

When you setup Master Key, you're asked whether you want to store pupil files individually on your hard drive or in the Applications folder so that other users on a network can access the records.
The interface is very basic - it looks very dated - but it's full of handy tips and hints to prepare you before you type. To get started, click New Pupil and enter your name.
You then have a huge range of drills and sub-drills to choose from.
As you type, there are Accuracy, WPM and Error dials at the top of the interface.
An error noise sounds if you make a mistake but the basic aim on the test I tried (Learning QWERTY) was to type letters and the spacebar in as fast a time as possible.
The score readings and stats are incredibly in-depth when you've finished. There's even a game called ParaTyper which involves saving paratroopers as you type although I couldn't access this because its probably only available in the full version which you are prompted to upgrade to every time you start a new test.

Master Key may look simple and a bit dated but its incredibly complete and will cover every possible angle of your typing skills.

Download Master Key 5.6 in Softonic

TIPP10 is an excellent and comprehensive open source typing program. Anyone who wants to learn typing can benefit from using TIPP10.

Upon launch, you are greeted with pleasing welcome screen that gives you a brief tutorial about how to use the program. Moving forward, you are shown lessons of varying difficulty. There are customizations on the side that allow you perform tests according to a time or character limit. There are also some options to toggle assistance as you get more accustomed to typing.

The TIPP10 interface is well laid out, with color aids to help you see what characters are pressed with an on-screen keyboard. We much preferred TIPP10's interface to something like TypingMaster.

TIPP10's lessons are designed to help tackle learning special characters and numbers. TIPP10 is impressive in that it learns what characters, numbers, and symbols you have trouble with and will increase their presence in your lessons.

Each lesson you complete in TIPP10 rewards you with points, which you can track. After each lesson, the program gives you a bunch of useful data like characters per minute, error rate, and which fingers commit the most errors!

The only gripe we have about TIPP10 is that some lessons are given in German and English. It's a bit jarring to include some lessons in two languages as your brain tries adapt to each. It isn't a deal breaker by any means though.

Overall, TIPP10 is an excellent, open source cross platform typing tutorial that adapts to your needs.

Download TIPP10 2.1.0 in Softonic

TypeTrainer4Mac 2.9.2

If you're looking for a typing tutor for Mac that supports your language then chances are that TypeTrainer4Mac is for you.
TypeTrainer4Mac is a slightly simpler version of <taglink type="program" country="en" id="94280">aTypeTrainer4Mac</taglink> and is a multilingual typing tutor designed specifically for Mac OS X. Note that it will not work under Snow Leopard and you're advised to download aTypeTrainer4Mac if you're using that version of OS X.

Like its more advanced version, TypeTrainer4Mac features a huge range of keyboard layouts as well as even more obscure non-system keyboard layouts such as Dvorak, Colemak or custom layouts being built using Ukelele.
aTypeTrainer4Mac will automatically detect your keyboard language or layout type although if you've got several installed in your Mac system preferences, you can switch between them within the program itself.

TypeTrainer4Mac follows a simple format. All you have to do is type a mixed-string of random characters. There's nothing fun or imaginative about this - it's simply designed to drill into you the position of keys on the keyboard.
As a result, it is rather boring but quite effective at getting you to remember where keys are. The only measure of your progress is a typing speed indicator and you won't find the metronome ticking away as you will in aTypeTrainer4Mac.

Unlike aTypeTrainer4Mac, there isn't much you can do to spice things up either. You can't import your own text of use text displayed in your web browser.
Unless you don't have Snow Leopard, there's not much point using it over aTypeTrainer4Mac which, while not exactly sophisticated, offers you much more than TypeTrainer4Mac.

aTypeTrainer4Mac is about as simple as typing tutors come. If you really like your typing tutors no frills then it may be for you but if not, you'll get bored very quickly.

Download TypeTrainer4Mac 2.9.2 in Softonic

Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor 4.7

Master your keyboard and become a real typing ace. Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor is an instructive program aimed at computer novices who wish to get professional level typing skills through an enjoyable learning experience. It also provides an exciting way for more advanced users to hone their typing skills.

The first thing I liked in Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor (TTTT) is that it holds your hand from the start. As soon as you launch the program a rough looking, yet friendly Viking greets you and will guide throughout the lessons. You can always rely on him if you have doubts or questions. The first exercises are meant to teach you how to place your hands correctly on the keyboard and how to type common letter associations. As you move on the difficulty rises and you are asked to type longer key words at a faster pace.

Where you need to reproduce a certain key combination a pair of virtual hands shows you how it’s done on the keyboard. Whenever you make a mistake the letters will appear in red and you will hear a beeping sound. You can check statistics to see with what keys you make the most mistakes. Not one to overlook a detail, TTTT even gives you tips on how to sit correctly in front of your PC so that you don’t tire too quickly. For the more experienced, you can also set your Words Per Minute count to see if you are typing on par with professional standards.

Once you feel more comfortable with your typing skills you can try them out in the two games provided by TTTT: Safari Park and Brick Factory. Both challenges give you a time limit to type certain key associations. You can adjust the speed to make it more difficult.

The Songseeker option blends iTunes to Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor. This option can detect what song you’re playing and will download the lyrics if you click on the iTunes logo in the right hand corner. The program will display them and you’ll have to type in the correct characters. This is another way of learning how to type, and what’s more, you can enjoy your favorite song at the same time.

Depending on the language you’ve chosen when you installed TTTT, you can set the type of keyboard you are using. For example, English users will have a choice of UK, US and Dvorak keyboards.

If you don’t feel at ease with your typing skills, I strongly recommend using Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor. You’ll be able to learn at your own pace and will improve thanks to a multitude of exercises testing your hand placement, dexterity and speed.

Download Ten Thumbs Typing Tutor 4.7 in Softonic

Mika's Touch Type Trainer 2.02

Learning to touch type is one of the fastest ways to improve your productivity. Mika's Touch Type Trainer is a program designed for to improve your typing speed through the use of children's stories.

The interface is very basic and it's not exactly flashy in the graphics department but it gets down to business quickly and if you've got an aptitude for it you should see some rapid improvements. The program is based around 6 stories including such classics as The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass. The program was originally a smash hit in Japan although I suspect this is a stripped down version of it for free. The themes of the stories obviously mean this is a suitable program for children and beginners and it's a very lightweight program that you could even carry around on a USB stick easily. The one major problem with this program is that it has been very badly translated from Japanese to English so parts of the interface, and especially the instructions are difficult to understand.

Mika's Touch Type Trainer is an unusual touch typing teacher which attempts to reach beginners and children although be prepared to struggle with the translations.

Download Mika's Touch Type Trainer 2.02 in Softonic
