As far as free PDF converters go, doPDF is one of the best out there saving you tons of cash on Adobe's patented version and whatsmore, doing it in half the time.

The program is remarkably simple to use. Just open a document in Microsoft Word, WordPad, NotePad or practically any other text editing software, choose Print and select doPDF. The program asks you where to save the PDF file and when finished, the PDF file will be automatically opened in your default PDF viewer. This process takes less than a minute and you'll be amazed at how accurate the PDF is. Occasionally, it can suffer with unusually formatted text and images and so they won't come-out exactly as you want but this can be remedied.

After installing it, VJPEG takes over the native Windows image viewer and opens all JPG, BMP and GIF files on the desktop. Images are opened as is, in other words, without any additional frames, windows or interface: just the image itself.

So without any interface, how do you manage images in VJPEG? Easy: with mouse and keyboard combinations. VJPEG lets you drag and move images around the desktop with the mouse and close them with a right click. If you want to resize them (just for viewing purposes, no actual size changes are applied) stick the image to the left screen edge and drag it. Visual Multitool is useful if you need to quickly edit a large number of files. The application will allow you to search, view and edit text files in no time thanks to a set of specific tools to streamline your work task.

It’s unfortunate that the program's main interface is so unattractive, partly due to the way the elements are aligned, because apart from that, Visual Multitools works rather well. Users who manipulate hundreds of documents at the same time will appreciate the fact that you can view windows in cascade, horizontally or vertically. Beginners might feel a bit confused on first use, so the flashing tip bar at the bottom of the window comes in handy.

We were left slightly perplexed by the search tool, especially by the fact that you have to use the options menu to select which folders to browse. We also liked the quirky yet highly effective history wizard. This little action bar plays back all the modifications you made to a document and you can easily pause it and edit your change. Visual Multitool also lets you view and edit html files but unfortunately will only let you preview them in Internet Explorer.

Visual Multitool is a good option if you’re looking to view and mass edit simple documents, like .txt or .html, and its "replace" and "history playback" tools should greatly simplify your work.
