2026 is going to be another record year for Steam

Steam has set a new record by reaching 41,816,052 simultaneous connected users, a figure that marks a significant milestone in the history of the platform.

This achievement occurred on January 4th, coinciding with the last day of Christmas vacation for many, which may have encouraged more playtime at home.

However, the continuous growth of Steam transcends the seasonal context, as the last thirteen months have been the best in terms of active users on the platform.

Almost as many users as citizens in Spain

Of those 41.8 million users, approximately 13.4 million were enjoying some game, which also represents a historical record for the number of games open at the same time.

Steam’s ability to attract users stands out compared to the difficulties faced by consoles in various markets, particularly in countries like China and South Korea, where the dedicated hardware model of consoles limits their market penetration.

The expansion of Steam in these regions has been crucial for its growth, taking advantage of the accessibility it offers on any computer. As the console market seems to have reached its peak, Steam is poised to continue surpassing its user records until 2026, although the growth rate is expected to slow down. Before the pandemic, the peak was 19.1 million, less than half of the current 41.8 million.
