Movies about strange animals that are past their prime seem to be a strange modern trend. We saw it recently with Cocaine Bear and, in a way, it’s the basis for Five Nights at Freddy’s, the upcoming movie about killer animatronic animals that’s based on the video game that hit it big a decade ago.
Kitty the Killer could be the next film to join this trend. Perhaps with a knife-wielding, bad-ass killer cat… as its poster suggests. However, its trailer makes it clear that this is a very different movie… and although there are no kittens, there is plenty of action, fighting, knives, katanas and martial arts. Less is nothing, really:
A cat that is not a cat
Kitty the Killer is actually the third film by Lee Thongkham, a Thai action director who has already directed The Maid and The Lake. The film is written by Thongkham himself with Sorawi Alapach and Venus Saksiri, and its synopsis is actually quite different from A Killer Cat.
Kitty the Killer is about a young assassin named Dina, who is nicknamed after the film’s title and who cajoles with her sweetness and then plunges her katana deep into the hearts of her enemies. A sort of Thai Kill Bill with lots of blood and action… not bad, really.
The film will be released on June 22 in Thailand and will arrive later to the rest of the world, although it looks like it will be released directly to streaming platforms. We will keep you informed if we find out that this killer cat that is not a killer actually arrives in our country.
