A digital blockchain video game store disappears, along with all the games they sold
Given the association with blockchain, those who acquired some of its games will lose them forever

Robot Cache, a digital video game store that promised to revolutionize the market by allowing the sale of used games through blockchain technology, will close its doors in 30 days due to a lack of users and sales. In an email sent to its users, the Robot Cache team announced that they would not be able to keep the platform operational and that, after the closure, players would not have access to their purchased games nor would they be able to keep their digital currency, known as “iron”.
The era of blockchain is dead
Since its launch in 2018, Robot Cache has failed to attract the necessary user base to be sustainable. According to a recent report, the platform generated only $532 in game sales revenue during 2024, accumulating a deficit of over 30 million dollars since its inception. Despite its initial backing by figures like Brian Fargo and AMD, financial problems began to surface shortly after the launch.
The silence in the store’s activity has been evident; the Robot Cache account on social media has not made any posts since 2023, and its Discord server has very few staff. A moderator on the server indicated that most of the original team had left the company and that communication with the moderators had been practically nonexistent for years.
The farewell message from the team, stating “we gave everything we had,” reflects the disappointment of a project that started with great aspirations and the desire to become a competitor to established platforms like Steam. However, it seems that the vision of a more open and accessible digital market failed to materialize, leaving users in a digital limbo, where even their purchases are compromised by the closure of the platform.
