iWork'08Apple released a new version of its iWork suite yesterday, determined to catch up with Microsoft Excel, Word and Power Point. iWork’08 now includes the much awaited Numbers, dubbed “the spreadsheet for the rest of us” by Steve Jobs. And in an unprecedented act of generosity, Apple has made a 30 day trial version of the suite available. We took this opportunity to give iWork’80 a quick test run.

At 469 MB, iWork’08 makes for a chunky download. You’ll have to be patient with the program as it installs on your Mac. Afterwards, all you need to do is click on one of the applications, Numbers, Pages or Keynote to get started. Annoyingly a start-up screen from where you can choose to buy or try the program will pop up every time you launch one of the applications.

All three applications are sleek, colorful and intuitive. We were anxious to finally get our hands on Numbers and were not disappointed. The application makes it really easy to add all sorts of formulas and enter multiple information into your cells. All of the apps offer loads of templates to start off from. Controls are easily accessible and Apple seems to have made an effort on elements like page layout in Pages, intelligent tables in Numbers and smart builds in Keynote. If you’ve tested out iWork’08, let us know what you liked best about it.
